Chapter 2: Eternal Rome
Story Start.
Previously from the Chronicles of the Eternal Sage: Far Horizons…
"Naruto," she greeted him with a curt nod, and Naruto replied in kind.
"Gabriel."
"Father said that you dug yourself a cavern deep the city," she said while Naruto chuckled before he gave her a nod.
"Aye, I did," he answered before he sat beside her. "I figured it would be useful for something one day. I don't know what or when; I may look like your father, but I'm not Him, I don't know everything, but when it happens, I hope that I'll be ready."
The two remained in silence within the darkness of the Holy of Holies for some time, and it was a peaceful silence, and in what seemed to be an eternity, Gabriel broke the silence.
"How do you like this city?"
Naruto looked towards her with surprise, but he calmed down soon after. His eyes shone before it reverted to its original form, and he replied.
"It feels different than it used to be during the last number of centuries that I visited this place, ever since your father began His silence four centuries ago. But that's probably because the Messiah graced this place already, and He will return to this place one day, or so as your father said."
Gabriel shifted from her position while Naruto looked down at his two hands, where ten golden rings are worn by all his fingers.
"He showed me a short vision of what will happen, and to say the least, and I hope to do what He asked me to do."
-Rome, Latium, Roman Empire: March, A.D. XXXIII-
"Rome… ah, Rome. I've much to say about this city, but I must withhold myself, lest I go on tangents that have nothing to do with today," muttered Naruto as he walked over the banks of the Tiber, near Vatican Hill.
"My lord!" a man shouted from behind, and he turned to see a centurion running towards him.
"Centurion," greeted Naruto before he sat down on a nearby boulder, "what is it?"
"The Senate calls for your presence."
A loud groan was heard in the quiet hillside, and the centurion shared the sentiment, the Senate is not a fun place to be, and his Lord liked fun; his fellow legionnaires knew it.
"Tell those old bastards I'll go to them when I feel like it."
Then the centurion had to deliver another blow to his Lord's mood.
"The Emperor is also there."
Silence ensued, and Naruto rolled his eyes before moving back towards Rome quietly, followed by the centurion. Soon enough, they crossed the Tiber and went towards the Capitoline Hill, where the men in white and red waited for him.
Degenerates, most of them are, and Naruto was not afraid to say it to their faces because they could never harm him, not because his own unnumbered Legion would defend him, but rather, he would wipe them out personally.
"Senators! Degenerates, I have come; what do you old fools want?" His voice was loud and was heard by many, and they were less than pleased to listen to him insult them to their faces in their place of authority.
"Oh, Tiberius, you gloomy old farting pervert, good day to you," he greeted the old Emperor, who shook his head in reaction, being used to this attitude from the older but younger looking man.
"Nævius Sutorius Macro, go fuck yourself," he continued as he walked past a Prætorian guard who glared at him as he stepped inside the palace as he owned it.
The Senators in their togas sat in their places as the General stood before them, with the old Emperor in his seat, awaiting what was to come. Naruto was waiting for an encore to what happened on Gaius Julius Cæsar, but alas, no one was foolish enough to do something similar to him.
"… are we just going to stand here and stare at each other?"
"No… we wanted you here concerning your… enterprises throughout the lands under Rome," said a senator with a sad look, to which the General understood.
"Oh, this is about the money you all lost to me," said Naruto before he exploded in laughter, and the old Emperor, if not for having a great restraint, would have joined him because even he found the situation ridiculous.
This continued for a few more moments, and with great willpower, he stopped himself.
"May I remind you fools that it was all done legally? It took me a long time," stated Naruto, but he was not finished and immediately fired more words with the same vigour.
"The lot of you, with all your underhanded deals, make the gods blush in embarrassment for having you as their worshippers."
He was ruthless with his words, and despite the darkening mood in the chambers, they all knew it was a foolish endeavour to fight against him, though some would still do it, and the best they could do is erase him from history which unknowingly played to his interests.
When the day ended, Naruto retreated to his villa outside of Rome, across the Tiber, south of the Vatican; his legionnaires refused to call it a villa, however, as it was more of a fort than a villa belonged to a patrician.
General Uzumaki sat behind his desk, with some paperwork in that same evening, and in his silence, he immediately noticed someone behind him, yet he knew who it was.
"Runeas Gremory," he whispered, then heard a disappointed moan behind him, then he turned to see a woman of unequalled beauty, transcendent as the moonlight shone down upon her crimson hair on which a small crown sat.
"Hmph!" she averted his eyes and crossed her arms beneath her bountiful bosom, which perhaps enhanced their appearance.
"Woman, you will never be able to sneak up on me, much less pull a prank, for I am the King of Pranks!" he exclaimed while the woman whom he called Runeas rolled her eyes and went for his bed, where she dropped down, sprawled like a child.
"…"
"You act like you're not a High-Class Devil, don't you, Rune?" he asked, but it was of a rhetorical question, as he already knew the answer, being intimate with the woman for literal thousands of years now.
"Heh, I'm like you, and I, really, like you… scratch that. I want you, just you because I love you."
Naruto shook his head as he went back to his work, being nearly done anyway, while Runeas waited for him impatiently, by how her grumbling sounded to him.
"I wonder how our children will react if they ever see you like this," he said as he signed some parchments with both ink and wax, then turned to see that the woman was already naked, and he promptly returned to his work, which made the woman whine like a child.
"Alright, alright, come here, such a demanding woman you are…."
Thus, a night of passion commenced, not to end until the break of dawn, which would have annoyed his legion guards if he had never made his chambers soundproof. The ancient devil woman writhed beneath him; gone was the childish attitude, replaced only with overflowing passion and love for the man.
He raised her from his bed to his lap, and she matched his rhythm while the bed creaked loudly, and once more, he was thankful that no sounds could be heard outside because her moans kept increasing loudly as he ravaged the woman.
From her mouth, to her neck, down to her chest, all while their bodies joined.
Sweat glistened under that moonlit night, a single candle lit his room, but they could see one another. The first Gremory crashed her bountiful chest to his hardened chest, and they kissed one another; their nocturnal copulation was one of the countless nights they've spent together since time immemorial.
Only a select trusted few in the Underworld knew about this union, and none of them ever desired to interfere, especially against this woman.
Runeas Gremory, the ancient progenitor of the Clan Gremory, is a mischievous and playful woman, which is perhaps why she was immensely attracted to him, being of similar disposition, but she understood that he was not to be trifled with; hence she gave everything to him.
Even now, she spasmed beneath his touch as he pressed her down to his bed; their sweat and her sweet nectar drenched the sheets.
She called out his name loudly and repeatedly.
Their union was the only thing she truly longed for, and despite her love for her family and descendants, nothing would surpass her devotion to him, the only one she worshipped.
Runeas would have vocally made her gratitude to the Father Almighty if she could.
Her love for him is as eternal as Rome.
-Forum Romanum: Some days later-
Naruto walked down the bustling Forum dressed in a pale tunic, accompanied by a smiling Runeas who linked her arms with him, but the woman immediately lost the smile when she felt a holy aura from a hidden corner which he also felt.
"Come, it's just Gabriel, calm down," he whispered, and she tightened her hold of his arm, which he found cute as the woman pouted at him.
He led her to a corner where the said Angel waited for them, and true enough, it was pretty hidden, despite the Forum being filled with many people; they found her disguised as a patrician's wife, and he was amused.
"If you're going to use a disguise, make sure it's not going to make you stand out even more," said Naruto as he sat beside her, while Runeas sat on his other side; hence the two women had him in between them.
"Your beauty is distracting enough as it is," he finished and flashed her a smile, but Runeas wasn't amused and pinched the arm that she clung into.
"What? I'm being honest," he reasoned, but the Gremory would never have any of it, though he ignored it and returned to Gabriel.
"Anyway, something new?"
The Angel nodded silently and handed him a scroll, and he broke the seal with his thumb; soon, his eyes narrowed as he read deeper through the letter and let out a heavy sigh as he closed it. Gabriel's ever immaculate face was tarnished with a grim look, while Runeas wanted to say a word but knew it was not the right time.
"He's going for it… very well; in the grand tapestry of the cosmos, this was always going to happen; whatever world, so long as it is the mirror of this one, it was always going to happen… and here, I'm to be the key witness," he muttered while Gabriel let out a sigh as she laid down her head over his right shoulder.
The Roman General placed his right arm around her in silence as they contemplated what they both knew now; meanwhile, Runeas took the letter from Naruto's hand and read it for herself, and of course, she did not understand.
As a spawn of Lilith through the merciless hands of the former Lightbringer, she could not understand holy matters but only be instinctively repulsed by them. Yet, with Naruto by her side, all of those feelings were not there, and instead, all she had now was questions. How could she understand?
Now, she had questions that she did not know whether she would like the answers to.
Rome is eternal. Romulus founded it, the Republic enriched it, Cæsar brought order, and Augustus ensured that it would be a permanent marker in the history of the world; all happened as God willed it. The Roman Pantheon was just one of the many forces that the Creator influenced with His passive will.
That passive will allowed the General to do as he willed, and he will continue to do so, especially as the Age of Gods comes to an end.
"Domine, non sum dignus, ut intres sub tectum meum, sed tantum dic verbum, et sanábitur ánima mea…" muttered the General in silence, while Runeas remained in the distance, while Gabriel has long gone, having returned to the Kingdom.
"… He can't hear you from here," a woman's voice taunted from a distance, but Naruto ignored her for a few moments.
"Leviathan… of course, He can hear me, He can hear everything, He can see everything, even now, He watches us at this very moment, and your march to war will end in sorrow and fire," he replied with a hardened voice, but he never once turned his gaze to one of Underworld's leaders, which probably angered the woman.
And it did, the woman moved to attack him as Runeas watched in trepidation, but then, a man in white held Leviathan's arms back, his presence rendered the devil frozen.
"… you dare…" the black-haired woman grunted as she tried to move, but she could do nothing.
"Your presence here is an anachronism, Holy Father." The General said before he finally turned around and looked at the new arrival - a man with full white beard and hair, clothed in white and crimson adorned in gold, and this man still had Leviathan at his mercy.
From another world and another time, this man came from, and the woman he held is none other than his mother's counterpart in this world. The man bowed to the General with a small smile, which he returned in kind, and he addressed the old man in white with amusement.
"Your office has not even been established yet in this world, my old friend, Lord Bishop of Rome."
A/N: Well, read my other DxD fic to know who that man is, but not yet; I'm actually in the process of rewriting chapters in that other DxD fic of mine.
