I DO NOT OWN THIS STORY!
This is a story written by Voltage and was on the Lovestruck app that was shut down due to lack of funding.
I am simply writing the stories from the app out as I prefer to read them this way and nobody has yet to do so.
I have typed this out word for word from the app except for a few bits to help identify people sense there are no pictures to see who is talking.
If you have any suggestions on how to make this flow better, please let me know!
Love & Legends - Saerys Route
Season 1: Chapter 9
Saerys finds a spot back by the water's edge, and sits with his legs crossed.
Try as I might, I can't settle down enough to sit still.
(There's just so damn much going on all at once, and I only even get like half of it.)
(How much of this is about me? Reiner did say I look exactly like the Witch Queen...)
(Is this all happening because of me?)
(There's no way it could just be a coincidence!)
"MC."
"It's all just too convenient-Huh?"
He gives me a smile that doesn't quite reach his eyes, and pats a flat stone beside him.
"You are going to pave a new road, pacing like that."
I roll my eyes, but take a seat anyway.
"There is not much we can do right now."
"The best thing, I think, would be to put the ordeal out of your head for now."
"Maybe a game? Just something to occupy our minds for while."
"That could work. Hmm...Oh!"
"How about I Spy?"
"That is a game from your would, yes?"
He sits up a little taller; I can practically see his ears perk at the mention of something from my world.
"It's pretty much the classic road trip game, and I guess this qualifies as a road trip."
"The way it works is, I'll pick something I can see, but only tell you one thing about it."
"Then you have to guess what it is."
"Hmm..."
Further down the riverbank, I spot a little black turtle snoozing on a warm rock.
"Got it! I spy something black."
"Something black..."
While he looks around, I remember something I've been meaning to ask him about.
"So, you know the other retainers pretty well, right?"
"What do you think of them?"
"They are an interesting group, and just as varied-is it a crow?"
"Nope!"
"Damn-"
"-aha! The turtle over there?"
"Yep! Well spotted."
"Vulketh."
"Wha-Oh, is that the demon name for it?"
He nods and grins at me.
"You caught on quick. I thought it might add a little fun to the game."
"Vulketh. Alright, let me find something else."
(There we go.)
(Saerys has a hunting knife, and it;s still unpacked from breakfast.)
"The others...I suppose I will start with August."
"He is dependable above all else, and I respect his dedication."
"There is a trust between us, as there must be between those who have held the front lines together."
"He is...talkative, though. It seems to be human thing, I think."
"He was kind of a jerk to me at first, but I think he's warming up."
"I spy something silver."
"My hunting knife."
"Shit!"
Saerys chuckles and shoots me a smirk.
"There is not much silver in the woods, MC. Linval."
"Ooh, that's a pretty one. Linval."
"Altea is...an interesting woman."
"She is perhaps the most energetic person I know, which can be overwhelming."
"Perhaps I just have not gotten to know her as well as I ought."
"She's certainly a bubbly sort."
(Gotta pick something harder this time.)
(Alternatively...)
"I spy something...soft."
Saerys blinks, surprised by my choice of adjective.
"My bedroll?"
"Nope!"
He goes back to scanning the clearing, humming an aimless tune as he thinks.
"Iseul has been a good friend to me."
"It is comforting to have someone else around who is not human, and he often seems to say the things I only think."
"The tent?"
"No, not the tent."
"He does seen pretty fond of you, as much as he jokes."
"Alright, I give up. What is it?"
I lean close to him, and press a kiss to his lips.
"Soft enough for you?"
Saerys laughs, quiet and low.
"Cheater. Shaesi."
"Shaesi. Don't mind if I do."
Before we know it the sun is setting.
"MC."
"Huh-what?"
"You are doing it again."
"Doing what?"
He looks down at my feet.
I follow his gaze, and notice the track of trampled grass I've made.
"Pacing. Right. Paving a new road and all that."
"It's just... he should have sent for us by now, right?"
"Lord Reiner, I mean. We've been out here for like two days!"
"...One day. Almost."
"Well, there's no hot water and it feels like two!"
"Shouldn't we have heard something by now?"
"Things are seldom so quick."
"He will send for us when the time is right, you may have faith in that."
I sigh and sit heavily beside the tent with him.
"You trust him a lot, don't you?"
Saerys' answer is prompt and resolute.
"With my life."
"If it's still too personal that's fine but...can I ask what the connection is between you two?"
"I get the feeling it's more than just...lord and retainer."
"You could say that."
"Where to begin..."
"When I was young, only just beginning to leave my childhood, Lord Reiner saved my life."
(You can hear it in his voice when he start in on a tale.)
(He'd make a fantastic storyteller if he ever got the chance.)
"I was in my thirteenth year when..."
"When my people where wiped out."
"Lord Reiner and his father found me and offered me a home."
"Had it not been for their protection, I doubt very much that I would still be alive today."
I slide a bit closer to him and rest a hand on his knee.
(I can't imagine how hard that must have been. He was so young!)
"I know this is probably a hard thing for you to talk about, but..."
"What was the Witch Queen's beef-uh, her problem with the demons?"
He pauses a moment, watching the river thoughtfully.
"I have thought long and hard on that, since it happened."
"I believe the answer is simply that she feared us."
"You have seen me fight, MC."
"If any force could stand against the Witch Queen at her most powerful, it would be us, organized and ready for battle."
"...So she never have you the chance."
"You must miss your village a lot."
"I miss them all dearly."
"I have few clear memories of that time, and I admit they are strange ones for me to have held on to."
Saerys smiles a faraway sort of smile.
"My mother would make me hot tea on windy evening, and I can still smell the blend she used."
"They do not make it here."
"No one does, anymore."
"There was a festival in winter, though I cannot remember the name of it."
"On the longest night of the year we would put out every light in the village, and bring one another gifts in the dark."
He rubs a thumb and forefinger together, watching the motion.
"I would help my family prepare pomegranate to share."
"I can still feel the texture of the seeds between my fingers."
"My heart remembers, and it longs for what is lost."
When darkness finally falls, I'm still fidgeting and fighting the urge to pace.
Saerys stands and stretches with a hum before looking around our makeshift camp.
"We had best set up camp for the evening, I suppose."
I shake my head to clear my thoughts, and stand with him.
"I'll help. I still can;t keep everything out of my head, and you know I'm never gonna be able to sleep like that."
(Come to think of it, there's something I should definitely do before I share a bed with anyone.)
"You know what would really help me settle down?"
"Not smelling like two days on the run."
"Well, there is certainly enough water nearby to allow it."
"The river is not exactly the castle baths, though."
"It'll be refreshing! And besides..."
I give him my best sultry smile.
"You're welcome to join me, Saerys."
That gets his attention. By the glow of his eyes, I can see them widen slightly.
Before he can reply, I turn and walk to the water's edge.
(Okay, the effect is ruined a little bit by how long it's gonna take me to get these boots off.)
After a while spent unlacing, I hesitate with my hands at the hem of my shirt.
There's a thrill to the thought of what I'm about to do-and a curl of nervousness too.
I pause with my shirt lifted just to my ribs, and look back over my shoulder at Saerys.
"Enjoying the view already, are we?"
He snaps his mouth closed.
With that little bit of encouragement, I lift my shirt up and over my head.
"Like I said, Saerys; you're always welcome to join in."
I toss the shirt aside, and hook my thumbs under the edge of my pants.
Behind me, I hear the sound of clothes hastily discarded.
(Gonna give me an ego like this, Saerys. Not that I'm complaining.)
Down to my underwear, I wade into the river.
"God damn, that's cold!"
Saerys' voice comes by my ear and I can't help gasping in surprise.
"I did warn you, did I not?"
(God, he moves like a cat!)
(He'd be terrifying if he wasn't so busy being hot as hell!)
"I've dunked you in this river once, and I will do it again!"
Jokes aside, I have to fight down a shiver at the feel of him so near.
(He can't see me blushing if I'm underwater!)
Rather than drag it out, I dive into the cool water.
It's a shock at first, but by the time I surface again I'm glad for it.
(...Actually, if anyone could spot a blush underwater at midnight, it's probably him.)
I flip my soaked hair back over my head and catch Saerys, shirtless and soaked up this stomach, watching me with a gleam of desire in his eyes.
"You know...last night wasn't the time, and it wasn't the place."
I wade back over to him, coming close enough to rest a hand against his chest.
He's so warm, warm enough to drive out the chill of the river.
"What about tonight, MC? What about here?"
His voice is soft, no louder than it needs to be, and the warmth he radiates seems to fill it.
"Tonight seems a whole lot better, Searys, and there's no one I'd rather be sharing it with."
His arms fold around me, draw me to his chest and into a deep kiss.
There's a different sort of passion in it now than what we shared last night, desperation replaced by simmering desire.
The slick warmth if his chest against mine, the simple passion in his kiss, the tenderness those powerful arms hold me with-it's intoxicating, and I only wish it could last forever.
"You know, I'm starting to think you lied to me."
He brushes a thumb over my cheek, wiping away a drop of water.
"Did I now?"
"Mhm. Back when we met, you said you weren't going to seduce me."
"I'll have you know I'm feeling very seduced right now."
We share a quiet laugh that fills the warm space between us, and kiss deeply.
"Better than mermaids, mm?"
"Better by far, MC."
"Jan mel kathik, ri Je."
"Jan mel kathik...Are you asking if I'm wet?"
He shakes his head, smiles and hold my eyes.
"Not quite. It means...you are like water, to me. Essential."
Saerys is warm, the bed is soft, and our long day has me tired.
I close my eyes, snuggle up to his chest, and...
A sound slides into my ears, soft like the hiss of a snake that doesn't need volume to make its point.
My eyes snap open, and I watch in horror over Saerys' shoulder as a dagger slices cleanly through the tent.
"Saerys-!"
Slender hands part the torn fabric and Lennox looms in the dark, smiling with a predator's calm.
"I am so pleased to have found you. It is time for you both to die."
