Assault
Sheva stumbled out of the door into the tunnel, falling to her knees as the door swung closed behind her. She reached up, pulling the gas mask off and sobbed for a few more seconds before finally pushing herself up, looking around. She needed to get away from the mountains, and she was pretty sure she was close to the vehicles. She started away from the door, heading quickly down the mountain toward the vehicles. It had taken her about twenty-five minutes to make the run up the tunnel to the exit, and it took her another five to reach the vehicles. However, just as she reached them, Chris rounded the boulders where they'd hidden the Humvees. A second after him came Leon, then Helena with a girl Sheva didn't recognize, then Jill. Sheva stopped dead, eyes widening. Their faces were smudged with dried blood, but they were definitely alive.
"What...how are you...did the virus..." Sheva trailed off.
"Whatever that trap was, the virus was a dud," Jake said.
"Yeah, it burned itself out after a few seconds," Leon said. "It was really dramatic when we all started bleeding, but it burned itself out before we mutated, so we were fine."
"Hey, where's Agent?" Sherry asked.
Sheva's throat closed off for a moment before she sank to her knees, sobbing. Sherry gasped as realization set in for all of them.
"He...he was...he said..."
Jake shook his head. "Everybody load up! We only have ten minutes!"
Everyone began to load up, except Sheva, who had folded forward to press her forehead to the ground as she sobbed. Sherry ran over, trying to lift her up.
"Sheva!" Sherry said urgently. "Sheva, we need to go!"
"Load up, Supergirl!" Jake said, lifting Sheva roughly and throwing her into a Humvee.
Sherry and Jake jumped in, and Chris and Leon floored it backward out of their hiding spot, then swung the Humvees around before flooring it away from the village and away from the mountain. Tension began to mount as everyone remained silent, the sound broken only by the roar of the Humvees engines and Sheva's sobs. Then, finally, there was a deafening, albeit muted, explosion followed by a cacophony of sounds as the mountain began to break up and fall away. Both of them struggled to push the Humvees faster, but the collapsing ground behind them began to gain quickly.
"We're not gonna make it!" Jake shouted.
"The hell we're not!" Piers said.
The Humvees bounced and skidded along the road, the edge of the collapsing ground behind them creeping closer. Within another minute or two, the breaking ground was just behind their back tires. Then, finally, the ground stopped collapsing, allowing them to escape the impending collapse. They all sighed in relief, slowing down finally.
"Now what?" Helena asked.
"Now, we gather everyone, and we go assault the Organization that caused all of this," Chris said. "Now, we make them pay. For Agent."
The meeting was short. Within minutes, it was agreed that the Organization had to go. It was a unanimous agreement among the top members of the DSO, the BSAA, and the president, all of whom were present. Immediately following the meeting, the strategy was set. There would be no practice, there would be no delay. The BSAA would surround the Organization's base, which there was a map for in Sheva's PDA. Agent had sent it to her while he was mining the control room's computer for evidence against the Organization, the same evidence they'd showed at the meeting. Once they had the facility surrounded, a force of BSAA troops and DSO Agents would infiltrate through the roof and would, in all likelihood, fight an all-out war against the Organization's forces. The facility was an office building eight stories tall and with three sublevels. Chris, Leon, and the others who were in the complex would be leading the infiltration team.
"How big of a war are we expecting?" Leon asked as they watched the BSAA's armored troop transports and soldiers form their perimeter.
"Big," Chris said. "Expect it to be like fighting a better-equipped BSAA. Hopefully their training sucks, though."
Leon nodded, strapping on his bullet vest, all of them wearing steel plates due to the expectation of needing the extra protection.
"Are you sure you want to come?" Piers asked Deborah, who was also gearing up.
"I heal instantly, and I learned to shoot alongside Helena," Deborah said. "I can help. Besides, I can still use my tentacle things."
"Wait, you can what now?" Leon asked.
"I can still use the tentacle things," Debora said.
"She's not the only one on that," Piers said. "I can mutate my right arm into...whatever it was before."
"You didn't tell me that," Chris frowned.
"We were worried you guys would be afraid the cure didn't work," Piers said. "And it's fair, because so are we. But right now, we can make use of our new extras."
Chris, Leon, and Jake all exchanged worried looks but decided not to question it. Everyone finished pulling their gear on just in time to get the call. They all climbed onto the helicopter they were going to be riding, but just as they slid down a rope to the roof of the building, a door on one side exploded outward. Chris and Leon ran to the edge, looking down, and stared at the Rasklapanje swarm staggering toward the BSAA, bullets flooding out of the doorway.
"Oh no you don't!" Leon snarled, he and Chris both hurling an Incendiary Grenade down into the Rasklapanje.
When they exploded, they caught all of the Rasklapanje, disabling them, however briefly, and the BSAA began to focus on returning fire, soon swarming into the building. Leon and Chris returned to the others, and they all sprinted for the door. There was no need to worry about civilians, there was no need to worry about friendly fire. As they stepped out of the stairwell on the top floor, their stairwell only going from the eighth floor to the roof, they found that everyone not a soldier had been infected. A mixture of various types of zombies, both C-Virus types and T-Virus types, swarmed toward them, only to be greeted by a hail of gunfire, dying quickly. They all spread out through the floor quickly, remaining in pairs, except for Sheva, who had foregone a rifle of any kind in favor of carrying countless more magazines for her pistol, all of them extended, and her knife, rapidly slaughtering the zombies up close and moving with a fury none of them had seen. No one questioned it, however, and no one said anything. Once the eighth floor was clear, they moved to the seventh, then the sixth, then the fifth. Each floor they went to, they cleared basic zombie from before moving on to the next. As they entered the fifth floor, they found that the BSAA troops were preparing to take a tunnel down into the sublevels hidden in what appeared to have been a stretch of normal wall.
"How'd you guys find that?" Chris asked.
"We didn't," the BSAA soldiers said. "It just opened once we'd cleaned up the troops here."
Chris frowned, just as the massive, steel doors over the end of the tunnel hissed open. Everyone's guns snapped up, but the tunnel was clear. Chris and the others moved to the head, starting into the tunnel, and quickly moved down into the first sublevel. According to the map, each one was built with their hallways in squares and with a lot of rooms, leaving plenty of places for ambushes. However, as they reached the end of the tunnel, blast doors began to close to their right. Someone there shouted in surprise and fired at the door uselessly. The door continued to close, only to stop just before sealing. Chris instantly lunged, yanking the pin on a grenade and shoving it through the door, the door sealing immediately afterward, almost as thought that had been its intention. The ground lurched as the grenade went off, and a moment later the door reopened, revealing that a second door had closed on the other side of a thick group of now-dead soldiers. Boh doors opened in four massive sections, sliding toward the corners of the rooms, creating diamond shaped openings in the center, like the one Chris had shoved a grenade through. Chris turned, heading the opposite direction of the bodies, but a set of doors began to close along that hallway.
"No, wait!" Chris shouted.
However, at the last second before the door closed, Organization troops, all dressed identical to Agent when they first met him, rounded the corner on the far side of the closing doors, Chris and Piers opening fire on instinct and startling them, stalling their returning fire until the doors had sealed.
"I think we have help," Leon said.
"Seems like it," Chris nodded. "Le's go."
The others all nodded, and they started past the first group of corpses, moving quickly, the other BSAA forces flooding into the hallway behind them. However, as they did, the doors sealed between Chris's group and the rest of the BSAA before the other side opened. The Organization's troops, busy trying to unseal the doors, were unprepared and were almost immediately slaughtered by the BSAA.
"Why'd they seal us off!?" Leon asked, kicking the door.
"We're meant to continue alone," Piers said.
"Let's just go," Jake said. "We have enough troops to let them worry about it. Let's go find this boss of theirs."
"Right," Chris nodded.
They continued through the hallway quickly, side rooms being sealed off before they could enter, hallways being blocked, others that were already sealed opening. After the first few minutes, as a door ahead of them opened, it revealed a group of Organization members trying to cut through a door with a plasma cutter, only for Leon to put a shot into the plasma cutter's gas tanks, killing the group. A few minutes later, a door to a side room opened and when everyone entered, they found a group of soldiers in the process of grabbing guns from an armory, only to kill them all quickly. All the while, they heard gunfire as the BSAA was separated into groups, then led similarly to unprepared group of Organization members, or to groups that were in a shootout with other BSAA groups. In this way, BSAA casualties were kept to a bare minimum. By the time the first sublevel was completely cleared and all the blast doors opened, only two BSAA members had been killed, and all of the Organization troops on it had been wiped out. Chris and Leon's group were led to the path to the next sublevel and found it clear for the first hallway, and again began to follow the explicit directions made by opening or closing blast doors, the rest of the BSAA groups doing the same. The second sublevel was cleared much the same as the first, this time with only one casualty on the side of the BSAA, this time a DSO agent being killed by a lucky shot through a closing door. However, as the path to the third level began to close, a red warning light over it flashed multiple times first, and when the door opened, Organization troops rushed out of it into a hail of gunfire. However, a handful survived the initial wall of bullets and forced the others into hand-to-hand combat. Sheva and Jill quickly each killed one, Chris and Leon forced another against a wall before killing them with their pistols, Debora killed one with one of her tentacles, and Jake beat one to death in a short, blistering series of strikes. However, as the others started down the path to the next level, Jake stared at the corpse he'd just finished with, which had lost its gasmask and helmet. His eyes went wide as he stared at the blonde hair and the familiar face. He swore under his breath and ran to catch up to the others, saying nothing about what they were up against, for Sheva's sake.
As they entered the third level, both sides closed, and a few moments later, the majority of the BSAA's troops arrived. The alarm lights above each blast door flashed one at a time, and the BSAA and DSO troops took up positions, readying themselves for a gunfight. However, after a moment, they heard screams from the other sides of the doors. A few seconds after the screams began, the doors opened, and everyone swore and opened fire. The Organization troops had been prepared for a fight, this time, but the doors behind them had opened and let in a swarm of Lickers on one side and several Napads on the other. As the Lickers died rapidly, the Napads finished off their Organization members and began to stomp toward the BSAA troops. However, the BSAA fired a volley of grenades, blasting the armor off of the Napads and allowing them to put them down a few feet shy of being in the infected's range. Chris's group headed one way, the BSAA splitting to go both. The third level progressed slower, and with more casualties on account of the presence of infected, but the infected were also aimed at the Organization members, leading to very few battles between the Organization and the BSAA. However, groups of Napads, zombies, Lickers, Mesec, Strelac, Crimson Heads, Leech Men, and numerous other infected from the C-Virus and T-Virus incidents were frequent and drained everyone's ammunition while also claiming many more lives than the previous floors. However, finally, Chris's group reached the control room as the BSAA was being directed to the last of the infected. However, here, they were enclosed fully with the control room ahead of them and a blast door behind them.
Chris and Leon exchanged confused looks as the minutes dragged by of them simply waiting. Finally, Chris pounded his fist against the door to the control room.
"Open up!" Chris ordered. "What's the point of leading us here if you're just going to lock us out?"
For a few seconds, there was nothing. Then, finally, the door hissed and opened. They all swept into the room instantly, only to stop, staring around at the room. Three corpses lay on the ground, a shattered stasis pod sat against the back wall, and numerous more pods lined the wall, each with a partially developed humanoid creature inside, though none were recognizable, and some of them were little more than a fetus. Finally, they all turned their guns to the man at the main computer, only for their weapons to immediately drop as the man turned toward them, wearing only a pair of pants he'd stolen from one of the corpses.
"Agent!"
