Epilogue
Agent groaned as he settled into his chair, the others around the tables cheering and clapping, Agent flipping them all off.
"Walk it off, Fresh Meat," Jake chuckled, pouring him a shot. "You get used to it."
Agent threw the shot back. "I can't tell if that makes you sound tough, or like you suck and you're lucky you've survived this long."
Everyone laughed.
"Hey, two weeks of hospitalization is nothing," Leon said. "We got off lucky. If that was the T-Virus, those spined would have been infected."
"They were," Agent said. "All of you were innoculated by the failed version in the complex, I was designed immune this time, Jake is Wesker's son, and Sheva got treated using Jake's blood."
"Then I'm siding with lucky to have survived this long," Chris said. "You're three shots behind."
Agent stole Chris and Jake's shot glasses, filled both along with his own, and drained all three one after another. "Happy now?"
Jake laughed, clapping Agent on the shoulder. "I like this kid!"
Agent rolled his eyes. "I'm twenty five."
"You're two weeks old," Sheva smirked, pouring him a shot and raising her own. "To an excellent first mission. You make a great BSAA operative."
"DSO," Leon said as Agent and Sheva drank.
"Merc," Jake said. "I'm recruiting him."
"You all need to list out benefits and paychecks," Agent said.
Again everyone laughed. Agent headed to the bar to buy the next round, getting himself a beer, and once he got back, they all began to share stories of their various jobs, and Jake's jobs as a merc before meeting the others. Everyone enjoyed each other's company, and no one missed the oportunity to make fun of Jake when he accidentally let slip he'd been too busy working and supporting his mother financially to have ever had sex. No one except Agent, who, even in his false memories, had never had sex either. However, he got a huge kick out of the fact that even Sherry, who he definitely would have bet money on being a virgin by her personality, had beaten Jake to it, even if only one time. The tough guy merc was a virgin and his innocent girlfriend wasn't.
As the night wore on, the tables seemed to grow a bit less crowded each time Agent got sent to the bar for another round, with the others disappearing in sets of two. Chris and Jill vanished first, then Piers left with the excuse of making sure Deborah got home safe, even though she was the more deadly of the pair, was able to hold her alcohol almost better than anyone at the tables, and Agent had seen the looks he and Deborah had been given each other. Leon and Helena bowed out next, and the Elite Clone, who the US government had forged papers to make Agent's twin brother, accounting for their matching faces and names, headed to his new home to start work as a CIA field operative in the morning. This left Sheva, Agent, Jake, and Sherry.
"Go," Agent finally said to the pair, after seeing them exchange glances for the fifth time in a minute.
The pair said their goodbyes and left, and Agent sighed, draining another shot.
"I should probably get back to my hotel room soon," Sheva sighed. "I head home in the morning."
"Oh, that's right," Agent said. "Back to Africa."
Sheva nodded. "Care to walk me home?"
Agent nodded and headed to the bar, closing out his tab before leaving with Sheva. The night was cool, but it felt good, and the silence between them was relatively comfortable.
"So, what will you do?" Sheva asked.
"I'm giving serious thought to joining Jake," Agent said. "I wouldn't be able to use my guns in the BSAA or the DSO, at least not for years as far as the DSO goes. The BSAA, though, never."
"True," Sheva nodded, then grinned. "You'd have to have a Beretta."
Agent gagged, and Sheva laughed.
"Well, if you're going to be a merc, I want a discount," Sheva said.
"Of course," Agent smiled. "Jake'll be lucky if I charge you at all."
Sheva smiled, slipping her hand into his. "I'm glad you came back. I would have never been able to forgive myself if the control room had been the last time I ever saw you."
Agent smiled, squeezing her hand lightly. "I'm glad I got to spend more time with you, and without needing a gun, this time."
Sheva raised an eybrow. "You're not armed right now?"
"Of course I'm armed," Agent scoffed. "How drunk are you? You think I'm going to spend time around any of you and your bad luck without a gun?"
Sheva laughed, squeezing his hand, and thwy both fell silent, walking the rest of the way to her hotel in a comfortable silence, hands still linked. Finally, they reached her door and stopped.
"Here we are," Agent said, instantly feeling stupid.
Sheva simply nodded, then sighed, taking her hand back. "Call me, alright?"
"Of course," Agent smiled. "Every day. And I'll try to make it a decent time where you are."
Sheva smiked, nodded, then leaned in. Agent met her in the middle, insides flipping as he kissed her, but after a few seconds, she pulled away.
"Good night, Agent," Sheva smiled.
"Good night, Sheva," Agent smiled.
Sheva closed her door, and Agent sighed silently, walking away. He would be lying if he said that he was disappointed to have only gotten a few-seconds kiss and nothing else, but he knew that Sheva was probably more sore than him after having been hit in a more dangerous spot by Riker's spines, and also had been infected by the live version of the virus, if only briefly, so he could understand it. He sighed again as he closed his own door a couple floors up. He hoped he saw her again. He'd always been bad at keeping in touch with people, but he wouldn't let himself be the cause of that happening this time. He just hoped she didn't want to be either.
Agent kicked the last of the Rasklapanje's arm away from himself as its body melted, the arm following suit once it landed, Agent holstering his P30L as he walked ofer to Jake. Jake snorted, shaking his head.
"You and that fucking gas mask," Jake smirked.
"I thought I looked cooler like this," he said, then pulled it off as his phone rang. "Hey Sheva."
"Guess what," Sheva said.
"You're a millionaire and you're retiring early, and looking for a professional foot massager to hire full time," Agent said immediately, Sheva laughing.
"No!" Sheva laughed, "although that does sound nice. My transfer request went through."
"Transfer?" Agent asked.
"Yeah," Sheva said. "I'm being placed in Chris's unit."
"That's great!" Agent grinned. "When do you fly in?"
"In about a week," Sheva said. "Will I have a ride?"
"About a week?" Agent asked Jake, who nodded, grinning knowingly. "Yeah, I'll be there."
"Great," Sheva said, then paused. "Maybe once I'm back, and now that there's no hole in my stomach, we could go out for drinks again and see if we make it past a kiss good night."
Agent smiled instantly. "I'd like that."
"So would I," Sheva smiled. "I've got to go, but before I forget, would you please find a new outfit beside just that camouflage gear you stole from the Organization."
Agent grimaced. "Jake sent you a picture?"
"Yes," Sheva said. "When I see you again, you'd better be sporting three-quarter sleeves, jeans, Converse, and a bouquet of roses."
Agent laughed. "Interesting choice of footwear, and the incluson of flowers was almost smooth."
"I tried," Sheva said brightly. "Alright, I gotta go."
"See you soon," Agent smiled.
"See you," Sheva said before both hung up.
"Three-quarter sleeves, jeans, and Converse," Agent said.
Jake laughed, tugging at his suspenders. "When you find a good look, everyone will want to copy it. We'll get you a harness for your P30L, too."
Agent nodded, and they left the area they'd been working to find someone to pay them and to buy Agent a new outfit.
