Forgetting An Important Day
Now this is obviously something that would really irritate someone wouldn't it? I mean…there is a very important day coming up for one of the characters in this story. But another certain someone has forgotten about this day! Want to know how it plays out? Let's get to it!
4 Months Later…
A few months had passed since the first key had been obtained by the head of the assassins. And he thought that Tomada was right, and he needed some well deserved rest after all of his battles and stresses.
Every now and then a patrol of The Remainders dropped by to cause trouble, but RDJ, Aiden and Devil Darkness were always there to send them away by fighting, or of course threatening them.
Within the last few months, Aiden was becoming a bit more comfortable around the others. But was still very quiet when it came to them trying to have a conversation with him.
The only bird he really talked to amongst the group was Allie. And within the last four months, they have been getting closer as friends. Because she was always interested in learning what his life was like. Not to mention share her knowledge of Latin with him. He even helped her on several occasions to try and decipher the maps to find the locations of the other keys. Which were proving to be extremely more difficult than locating the first one.
"Aaaah shit! That is the fifth paper cut I got today! How are you so lucky?" Allie giggled at her new friend, who only laughed a little in response to her.
"I suppose I'm just a lucky charm I guess?" Aiden replied in a calm way, as he turned the map over to work on the other side. "So, where did you lean how to translate Latin?"
"My mother taught me when I was very young. She told me it would be a great skill to learn in the future, and she was right." The pink female smiled at him as she gave him a little poke on the hip. Making him smirk a little at her.
"What are you doing Allie?" He asked her curiously as he chuckled in response.
"What? Doing what Aiden?" She asked playfully as she just poked him a little harder. Causing him to smirk again and roll his eyes a little.
"Seriously, we need to find this second key, otherwise our mentor would be pissed with us."
"I know but…I think maybe we should take a break you know? Do something…wild! Do something…fun!" Allie beamed as she smiled at the scarlet macaw. "You know they are training on top of the main hall? We should do a bit of sparring!" She excitedly spoke as she punched the air a few times like she was imitating a boxer in a boxing ring.
"Sparring? You and me?" He almost sounded a bit boastful there, and Allie took this as a challenge and began tempting him into doing it.
"Yeah? What's wrong Aiden? You afraid of losing to a girl?" She giggled mischievously, clicking her wingtips at him in a sassy manner.
"Ooooh, just for that! You are so on!" Aiden laughed as he clapped his wings and flew out of the church exit, with Allie following him closely behind.
Now Let's Find Out Where The Others Are Shall We…
"Good! Keep up the posture! NO! DON'T SWING LIKE…Great, thanks for not listening to a word I fucking say!" RDJ was observing how his army were training with each other, and he was trying to figure out their fighting styles to give them advice on how to train better. "Andy! You drop your focus for a second, then your life is in danger!"
"Oh please RDJ! My focus is one hundred…OUCH! YOU BASHED MY NOSE ALEX!" The hyacinth male shouted at the snowy owl male, who got back into a defensive pose with his nunchucks.
"I'm sorry! I didn't mean to!" Alex apologised seriously as he was concerned that he may have hit him too hard. "Do you wanna go again?"
"Yep! Just…give me a minute!" Andy wheezed in pain, rubbing his sore nose to soften the irritation.
"Ughhh…you guys have lost your touch!" RDJ smirked at the owl, who stuck his middle wingtip up at him. "Hahahaha just keep focusing!"
"Yeah, then you can focus on how to please your wife when you tire out easier than you used to…" Alex muttered in revenge, thinking his master didn't hear him.
"What was that?" The blue and gold male smiled cheekily at him as he clearly heard him.
"Nothing!" Alex replied in a panic, receiving a blow to the face from Andy's staff. "OOOF!"
"You should keep your focus up guys! Remember…out here you lose your focus for one second, your life is in complete danger!" RDJ advised his friends, who all nodded and carried on sparring with each other.
"Mentor?"
The blue and gold male spun around to see his young student approaching him from behind. With a saddened look on her face.
"What's wrong Monifa? Where's your sparring partner?" RDJ wondered as he couldn't see anybody training with her.
"Nobody wants to spar with me? I tried asking around, but everyone already picked somebody!" Monifa replied in disappointment as she just threw her machete on the ground.
"Oh come on? I'm sure someone will spar with you? Where's Fernando?"
"Nobody's seen him since yesterday master. He always seems to be busy every morning. Which is very unusual." Jaime pointed out as he ducked when Jameson tried to whack him with his bat. "Ha! You're gonna have to do better than that!"
"Oh come on?! You haven't even landed one hit on me yet!" Jameson chuckled in amusement as he rolled backwards after Jaime tried to swipe at him with some staff that he found in the church. Which of course was the same kind Andy was using.
RDJ placed a wingtip on his chin and began to rub it thoughtfully. "Hmmm, it's not like Fernando to just fly off like that?"
"Mentor!"
The blue and gold male noticed that Keith was strolling up to him with an annoyed look on his face.
"I can't believe that Alex refused to let me spar with him? I'm not going to kill him or anything? He knows I'm not going to do that?!" The barn owl grumbled as he stabbed his spear into the roof tile.
"You know what?! I choose to spar with Keith!" Monifa suddenly narrowed her eyes at the barn owl. Who widened his eyes in surprise at first, then scoffed at her proposal.
"Oh please! You'll be on the floor in five seconds when facing me!" He pointed his wingtip at her in a threatening manner. This only got her even more pumped to fight him.
"Wanna prove it?!" Monifa pulled the staff out of the roof and shoved it in his wings, as he continued to laugh. "Let's go you bastard!"
"Oh god…looks like I'm gonna humiliate someone else now!" Keith thought out loud, beginning to circle around his opponent.
"Well…this should be interesting…" RDJ thought to himself, taking a few steps backwards to give his associates time and space to move around.
Aiden and Allie arrived on the roof to get ready to spar with each other, but then they noticed that everyone stopped their training to watch the duel between Monifa and Keith.
"RDJ? What's going on here?" Allie asked him, as she stood besides him.
"Monifa has challenged Keith to spar with him, and he believes he will kick her ass." RDJ replied with a straight face as he didn't look away from the fight. But he did take a little peak at Aiden who looked more comfortable around him than usual. "You okay kid?"
"Me? Yeah…I'm okay…thanks…" The scarlet male was surprised by how he asked him this, so he didn't really give a confident answer.
"Any luck on locating the second key?"
"We are getting close mentor. Just…we need a bit more time."
"We?" RDJ rose his eyebrow in curiosity, as he turned to look at the pink female.
"Yes. Aiden has been helping me try to find the second key. His knowledge of Latin is absolutely remarkable!" Allie replied with a smile as she patted her friend on the shoulder.
What was weird about this moment was the fact that Aiden blushed a little bit…but he dared not to let the others know that…however…someone decided to really wind him up about it.
(Ooooh, someone's blushing!)
"What?! No I'm not!" Aiden was so embarrassed that he turned around slightly. "Seriously…shut…up!"
(Oh come on, it's natural?)
"I…don't…want…them…knowing!" He whispered back angrily, as he turned back towards RDJ. "On second thought mentor, I'm going back inside to find the next key!"
He was so embarrassed and confused by what he just felt, that he had to get back inside. And Allie felt like she was the reason why. "I'll come with…"
"Alone…please?" Aiden softly spoke to her, as he flew back inside the church. Leaving the others to watch the fight. While Allie and RDJ just witnessed the scarlet male acting odd.
"Do you think he doesn't want me to be around him?" The pink female asked the head of the assassins, who placed a wing on her back and turned her around with him.
"I wouldn't take his actions as a personal thing towards you Allie! I'm sure he's just…a quiet individual! Now come on, I want you to watch this fight with eager attention! This will be a strong lesson for you, when you are fighting out there!"
"I suppose…" Allie was still upset that Aiden wanted to find the next key by himself. But of course she knew the kind of individual he was. So…she just watched the fight that was about to happen.
Keith and Monifa continued to circle around each other. Not taking their eyes off of each other for one second.
"Last chance little princess? I can either make you cry in front of your new master? Or…you can cry to your master because you can't take me on! Your choice!" Keith scoffed in amusement as he immediately swiped Monifa with his spear, but she rolled to the side. Before jumping in the air and drop kicking Keith into a wall. Which made RDJ nod his head at her quick reflexes.
"Good…" The head of the assassins muttered as he saw Keith grumbling before standing up.
"Ughhh…Mmmm…That was just lucky!" The muscular barn owl grumbled before going in for another attack. Only this time, the back of his spear connected with her face and she stumbled back a little. But then Keith didn't hesitate by punching her in the face. Knocking her down on the floor.
"Monifa, always keep on your toes! Good hit Keith!" RDJ called out and crossed his wings.
The female grey macaw noticed that her mentor wasn't praising her…as far as she knew. So she decided to do something quick to impress her new master. "Okay you brute! Come at me!" She put her machete away and began taunting him with her wings, to get Keith to make the next move. As the tension between them started to build up.
"Huh…now…this is new?" RDJ thought to himself as he did smirk a little at how his student wanted to play it.
"Grrrr! You're really starting to get on my nerves!" Keith jumped in the air and prepared to strike her with the spear. But with one quick motion, she leaned to the side to dodge the attack. Then she grabbed the end of the spear with both wings and with one final kick. She kicked Keith in the stomach. Knocking the wind out of him. "OOOOF!"
Then she swiped the spear underneath his talons and tripped him up so he fell flat on his back.
But she wasn't done there…
"Now you will know how it feels to be humiliated!" Monifa growled as she snapped the spear in two over her knee. Then pointed the sharp end towards his chest.
"Woah! Hey! Listen, you won the duel! Don't take it too far?!" Keith muttered in fear as he began crawling away from the angered female.
"Did you take it too far with Siax?! Did you take it too far with Alex?! Mandisa?! DONKOR?!" She growled in rage, putting the sharp end so close to his chest that she could ram it through him if she wanted to.
But RDJ dropped the whole cool posture, and he was now looking concerned for Keith's safety.
"Monifa! Stand down!" RDJ ordered his apprentice, who only shook her head in response.
"No mentor! It time he learned not to betray the birds closest to him!"
"But I didn't betray them Monifa! I promise you! I've changed as an individual." Keith responded with a sincere look on his face as he lifted his wings up.
"Monifa…I order you to stand down!" RDJ said again, slightly raising his voice and he took a small step forwards.
"Why should I?! Give me one good reason why I should?! For all we know he could be the reason why Fred knew where you were!" She argued back and refused to stand down.
"Monifa! I promise you…I have changed!" The barn owl stood up on his talons and pushed the top of his spear away from him. "Siax…saw me as a brother! I always wanted more than that, and I was so blinded by my love for her, that I didn't realise how much I meant to her as family."
As Keith explained herself, the grey African female macaw gradually lowered her weapon. And her expression slowly softened, noticing the way he was looking at her. She saw that he was truly guilty.
"I was at the stadium that day ready to end Alex's life. I wanted to ram my spear right through his heart and end him! But…when I heard the painful tone in my best friend's voice…I realised that I had let anger take over me. And all I wanted at that point…was to hug my best friend…my sister!" Keith sadly muttered as he noticed that Monifa put her weapon away and stood down. As her mentor finally smiled after seeing the heated argument unfold.
"I…didn't know that?" Monifa replied quite embarrassingly, scratching the back of her head.
"You never asked…" The muscular barn owl responded as he flapped his wings and flew away from her. Leaving her there to think about how judgemental she was towards him.
"Okay, that's enough training for today everyone! Go about your business and recover!" RDJ remarked as he nodded his head towards them. And all of them just turned to each other and talked amongst one another. "Hang on…where's Lila and Jacqui?"
"Huh?" Andy spoke up as he walked straight past him.
"Where's my wife and Jacqui?" He asked a second time, and felt a bit confused why they weren't training with the others.
"Pffft! Why would I care where Jacqui is?! Hehe! I…I don't know where she would be! In fact…I…I d-don't even remember what she looks like?! See ya!" Andy began to panic when asked about the blue female, and flew away from the blue and gold male. Who turned to face Tomada with a confused glance.
"Okay, I don't know what's going on here? Those two have been acting very strange the last few months or so!" The falcon pointed out, stretching his wings after training with the others.
"Your guess is just as good as mine. I'll just…try and find my wife!" RDJ blinked his eyes a few times in confusion. As the two of them flew off to do what they wanted to do this morning.
Let's Find Out Where Lila Is…
"Oh my gosh! Jacqui! I love it!" Lila beamed excitedly as she lifted up what looked like a platter full of her favourite fruits and nuts. With various mangoes and strawberries. But…also she had another little surprise for her.
"Also, I remember that one time we flew over that restaurant back in Rio, and we saw that someone had left those strawberries dipped in what the humans call chocolate? And you absolutely loved them?" The blue female replied as she went to a chest in the room and took out what looked like a small jar that had the words 'Chocolate dip' on the front of it. "So I managed to find this in the city with Monifa. I hope you like it?"
"Oh my gosh! You are the most amazing best friend ever! You know that I now love chocolate!"
"Yeah, but you did get a terrible sugar rush afterwards? You were flying so fast around the samba club you looked like a blue blur! RDJ had to catch you and hold you still for a few minutes to calm you down."
"I know hehehe! But those were exciting times! Thank you so much bestie!" Lila wrapped her wings around her best friend in a warm embrace. Not realising that someone else had entered the room.
"Well…don't you two look happy?"
Both of them turned to face the bird in question, who revealed to be RDJ. With his hood pulled down and he had a huge smile on his face.
"Hey honey! Look what Jacqui got me!" Lila greeted her husband as she pointed out the various fruits and nuts as well as the jar of chocolate. "Isn't she the best friend ever?!"
"Yeah she is! What's the occasion?" RDJ asked innocently as he put his bow and arrows down on the floor.
Suddenly, Lila stopped laughing and turned to face Jacqueline as both of them were a bit confused as to why he would ask such a thing.
"What?" He asked, a bit unsure on why they instantly looked at him with serious expressions.
"You don't know what today is?" Lila asked her husband a little disappointedly, forming a sad look on her face.
"Oh shit…It's not our anniversary is it?! I thought our anniversary was in August?"
"It is in August! What's today RDJ?!" She rose her voice a little, as the tension between them began to heat up.
"Oh no…please remember RDJ…" Jacqueline whispered to herself in a panic, as she feared another argument was brewing.
"Ummm…" The blue and gold male tried to think about what day it could be.
Was it Fathers Day? No that can't be it…
Mothers Day? No, that was only recently…
There was one other holiday that crossed his mind…and this was the one day that he truly had forgotten about.
"WELL?!" She grew impatient of his silence and crossed her wings. As her husband just chuckled nervously and sweat ran down his cheeks.
"Oooooh! Today…It's your birthday! No of course I didn't forget your birthday honey! I was just…playing along?! Hehehe!" RDJ lied, to try and cover up the fact he really had forgotten one of the most important days in his life. "Happy Birthday my love!"
"Oh really? So…what did you get me?" Lila asked in that same stern voice, putting her wings on her hips.
"Huh?"
"What did you get me for my birthday!" She asked again, feeling the anger boil up inside of her.
"Ummmm…you see…I had to…" RDJ couldn't come up with an excuse fast enough, and his wife suddenly had enough and burst into tears.
"You…Y-Y-You rotten ASSHOLE! I can't believe you forgot my b-b-birthday!" Lila whimpered sadly as she stormed up to him. Then slapped him really hard across the face. "I didn't forget your birthday! I got you that new leather buffer for your armour on your cloak! You didn't forget Jacqui's birthday! You got her that new shoulder pads that have retractable spikes! And you can't even remember mine?!"
"I'm sorry! I…I was just so busy with work and everything I…" He panicked even more as he rubbed his sore cheek.
"Work! Work! Fucking WORK! You don't give a damn about me do you?!" She angrily bellowed and flew out of the room with tears running down her cheeks. While RDJ went to run after her, but Jacqueline stopped him.
"Just…leave her alone for a moment! She needs to calm down!" Jacqueline remarked as she turned him around to face her. "How could you forget her birthday?"
"I don't know? I knew it was one day this month? But I completely forgot which day it was!" RDJ replied as he felt really guilty about this. "What am I gonna do now?! Things were going so well with her the last few months, and I felt like our marriage was back on track! Now I go and fuck things up!"
"You didn't mean to forget it? These things happen! You can still fix things." She tried to reassure her friend, placing a wing on his back. "If I were you, try and arrange a little special something for her! Try to make things right!"
"Like what?! I don't know what I could do?"
"I know something…"
RDJ and Jacqueline turned around to see Jaime entering the room with a confident smile on his face.
"There is a firework display in the city tonight! You should take Lila there and try to make things better. Also, you need to just be open and honest with her! Because right now, she feels like you are making more of an effort to find the keys, than making the effort in your marriage."
"But she knows that I love her with all of my heart? I would do anything for her!" RDJ explained as he began rubbing his forehead in a stressed out way.
"Then tell her that! Now come on! I'll stay here and watch over this place with the others! I suggest you head into the city to find her. I spotted her flying away from here into the city centre."
"Understood! Aiden! AIDEN!" RDJ called out for the scarlet macaw male, who poked his head around the corner.
"Yes mentor?" He answered a little shyly, putting the map and pencil down.
"I need Allie to stay here and try to locate the second key! You are coming with me to search for Lila!"
"Yes master." He replied and pulled his hood up over his head, as he prepared for departure.
"What do you want me to do?" Jacqueline asked as she wanted to help her best friend.
"I want you and Andy to go on a separate patrol with Tomada! Monifa will be here to guard the church while we are all away! Now…let's move!" RDJ explained as everyone in the room nodded their heads apart from Jacqueline, and left the church to follow his orders.
Even though the blue spix's female was a bit weird about having to patrol with Andy. "A-A-Andy?! Oh god…why did it have to be Andy…"
Let's See Where Lila Is Going…
"Sniff…Sniff Sniff! That…stupid…stupid…PRICK! How could he forget my birthday?! Ooooh…this is getting ridiculous now! Why do I even bother to make any effort with him at all?!" The purple eyed female continued to whimper, with tears running down her cheeks. Flying straight past a bell tower with the Mexican flag hanging off of it. "I seriously don't get why I even bothered to come on this trip?! I could have stayed at home with my friends! But nooooo! I had to come here with…with…that asshole! Grrrrr…forgetting my birthday! Well…I will now not make any effort with him! If he wants our marriage to work, he has to really show me! Otherwise, I might just find comfort elsewhere!"
Lila flew straight through a market centre that was still closed down due to it being far too early in the morning. And she just wanted to go somewhere in her own for a little while.
Meanwhile…A Few Feet Away…
Back at the bell tower that Lila flew by only seconds ago…the very same bird in the dark metal helmet stood there gazing down at the blue female. With a sinister look on their face.
"How…interesting? It appears, that our little assassin friend had forgotten one of the most important days in his wife's life? Hmmmm…oh this is like shooting fish in a barrel!" The Destroyer remarked with an evil manner. He then turned to face his associate Cameron, the blue throated macaw from the weapons factory and the market. "I think it's about time that Fred will do his part in making RDJ truly suffer!"
"Agreed master…but what of his friends? Surely they will find out about this?" Cameron responded unsurely as he felt concerned about this plan.
"That's why I need you to head to the abandoned birds shelter in Paseo De La Reforma! The street should be clear of humans this early in the morning! So I suggest you do what I told you to do while Fred does his part!"
"But sir…there are children in there! I don't think…" He was about to protest, but The Destroyer picked him up with his wing around his throat and choked him vigorously.
"Need I remind you…CAM! That RDJ destroyed the only thing that could have got us back on top?! Now…we will do anything possible to make…him…SUFFER! DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME?!" The Destroyer growled, clenching him in an even tighter grip. Causing the air to escape from his windpipe.
"Accckkk…ye-sss…massster!" The blue throated male struggled to breathe, and was slowly losing focus.
"Good…now, get the Molotovs! And go to the shelter! I'll get Fred to…seduce our latest target! Hehehehehe!" He cackled once more sadistically, before leaping off of the bell tower, to prepare the next phase of his plan.
Now Let's Check Back In On Lila…
The blue female felt really exhausted after all this flapping around, and searched for a safe place to land.
She found a small park along the western side of the city, and decided to land under some kind of willow tree. Providing enough shade for her, as the full country had to endure a massive heatwave.
"Fuck! If I wasn't so grumpy…I'd probably have more energy to fly?" She thought to herself out loud, landing on the grass, then plunking herself down on the green patch of grass. Laying down to relax in the shade, to gain her energy back. "Ahhh…Phew…god…now I can relax for a little while!"
The blue female closed her eyes and sighed heavily in sadness. Burying her face in her wings while sobbing silently about what happened with her husband.
This was her worst birthday ever! And she was about to spend it alone in this park with nobody around her that she knew…
"Sniff! Oh god…why can't I just be happy?! What did I do in a past life that's making me suffer now?! This is about to be the wor…"
"Hey? What are you doing out here?"
Lila suddenly stopped crying and wiped away her tears quickly when hearing this familiar voice. She looked up at the bird in question…who revealed to be the one bird who she hoped not to see! Fred himself.
"Me? What are you doing here?! I thought I made thinks perfectly…" She was about to shout at him again, but he instantly cut her off.
"Clear! Yes, yes you did! But as for myself, I like to come here alone to celebrate a certain special day thank you very much!" The older blue and gold male responded as he just turned and walked away from her.
Lila instantly became curious about what day he was talking about, and asked him before he fully walked away. "What special day?"
He turned back to face her with an annoyed look on his face. "My birthday! Not that it's any concern of yours anyway! Nobody cares about me on my birthday! I'm spending it alone…" He replied in a faint voice, before lowering his head. "Like I do…every…single…year."
"T-T-Today is your birthday too?" The blue female pondered. Suddenly more interested in the conversation.
"Too?"
"Yeah! Today is my birthday as well! But…my husband forgot…" Lila sadly replied, wiping away a few more tears that fell from her eyes.
"Oh…I…I'm sorry to hear that. Truly I am!" Fred replied with a soft look. Before turning around once more. "But I don't think I should be here anymore! Your husband wouldn't like it if he saw us together. So maybe I should just leave."
"No! Wait!" She caught up to him and spun him around to face her. "You shouldn't just leave because my husband won't like it? Fuck him! If he wants to put work ahead of his wife, then maybe we should spend our birthdays together! I would rather spend it with someone who will actually want to celebrate my birthday. Rather than someone who hasn't even made the effort to remember?" Lila replied with a warm expression, lowering her wings to her sides.
"Are you sure though? Because you seemed pretty angry a few months ago?"
"Yeah, because you were hitting on me!"
"Could you blame me? You're such a beautiful girl, and I couldn't resist." Fred replied innocently.
Lila did blush at the compliment given to her. And normally she would be angry when males flirted with her when she was already happily married. But now that she is having serious doubts about her marriage again. Now she's not entirely thrown off by it.
"Thank you…you're not so bad to look at yourself." She replied with that same warm smile on her face, with him reciprocating the smile in return.
"And thank you! Now…I know that this would be a weird question to ask! But…would you care to join me on my…I mean…our birthday adventure?" He asked in a playful tone, as he gave her a slight nudge. Which did make her giggle a little bit.
"I shall! Please lead the way!"
"Perfect! Now let's go…"
Just On Top Of The Willow Tree…
As the blue female and blue and gold male flapped their wings and flew away from the park. Three certain birds arrived at the scene, and all of them felt really concerned.
"Fuck! Now what are we going to do?" One of them revealed to be Tomada, standing on one of the lower branches to blend in easier. Due to his larger size. "I knew that guy was trouble! What do we do now?!"
"Okay…me and Andy will follow Fred and Lila to keep tabs on where they are going! You head back to RDJ and tell him where we are following them!" Jacqueline spoke up, as she leapt off of the tree with the hyacinth male.
The male peregrine falcon stood there with disbelief on his face. He didn't want to witness such a terrible thing!
"This is gonna absolutely piss him off! But I gotta tell him!" Tomada declared, as he too disappeared to search for his best friend. "Lila…please do not fall for his tricks…I beg of you!"
Oooooh dayummm! Fred is now telling more lies to Lila! Saying things that she wants to hear! I wonder how RDJ is going to react? Keith and Monifa look like they finally have some common ground and understand each other! Aiden seems to be getting…rather close to Allie? But why is he still acting quite distant? RDJ forgot his wife's own birthday…and has metaphorically pushed her into Fred's wings! What will happen next you ask? I guess you'll have to find out in the next chapter! See you all soon!
