Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of Inky Hearts. Enjoy the 900-word chapter. I don't own MHA Shonen Jump, Kohei Horikoshi and a few others do.
Aquatint panted as he looked at Nejire who barely seemed winded. She was tough, he was beginning to think there wasn't a conventional way to defeat her. He sighed and slowly straightened up; he could feel his fillings rattle as Nejire swung from a low hanging tree branch of one of the nearby oaks.
'Seriously, how much stamina does she have when it comes down to it? We've been fighting for 20 minutes.' Aquatint thought as he sighed and threw out another bird to distract Nejire.
The ink transformed into a hummingbird that buzzed around the shockwave conjuring hero, distracting her for a second. It gave Aquatint the ability to roll behind a tree to hide from her for a moment. Aquatint had noticed that Nejire wasn't getting tired out like he was, and her shockwaves had stopped him from landing a real hit.
"Aquatint, where did you go? Are you over here?" Nejire questioned, slowly starting to walk that way. "Hmm," Nejire said, tapping her lip as she slowly but surely turned in a circle.
He sighed, looking at her with interest. She lived up to how well it was said she was one of the top students in the class.
"Seriously, I don't know what to do." Aquatint said as he shook his head, curious as to how this would end up. "Hmm, maybe she has a blind spot?" Aquatint said as he began to focus on the ink that he was busy controlling, trying to shape it into a weapon.
Nejire launched a shockwave, missing the inorganic avian but clipping a tree next to it, shaving off half the leaves upon it. aquatint slowly but surely approached her, leaping behind a rock.
"Aqua?" Nejire asked before starting to turn in time to backflip away from a slash at her hip.
She turned to see Aquatint holding what looked like a sword made out of ink. He looked at her with interest and awkwardly held the sword with interest as hummed.
"Uh, I wasn't expecting you to jump out of the way of that." Aquatint said as he looked around. "Can we take a break? I'm exhausted and don't know if I can keep fighting right now." Aquatint added, dropping the inky blade which slowly flowed back into his suit as he did so.
Nejire blinked but gave a nod as her trademark smile crossed her face once more. Aquatint sighed, putting his hands on his knees as he let out a deep breath. He was so tired while Nejire didn't even look slightly winded.
"Nejire?" Aquatint asked as he straightened up, leaning on a tall oak tree. "How are you not tired? You've been blasting at me with those shockwaves for over 20 minutes." Aquatint said as he blinked, cracking his fingers as his adrenaline finally began to wear down.
"No, it's because of how my quirk works," Nejire said while she slowly began to walk up to Aquatint, smiling as she neared him. "My quirk uses my stamina for fuel. I had to end up training to enhance my endurance and stuff. It's why I'm so happy all the time." Nejire said as Aquatint blinked, rubbing at his eyes.
'Her power comes from her stamina? Geez, no wonder she doesn't run out of gas from using it.' Aquatint thought as he brushed off his costume.
Aquatint walked with Nejire, he liked that battle, even if it had slowly worn him down entirely. He could barely feel his body, every single limb was drained of his power.
"Oh, so that's why you aren't tired so easily?" Aquatint asked, planting his hands behind his back. "Must have taken a lot of training to get that strong, Nejire." Aquatint said before grimacing to himself.
The pain he felt was similar to a truck running him over. Then again? He should probably feel better that she wasn't a villain or hit him with a stronger blast. It would have doubled him over or it could have probably ruptured his organs.
"Eh, it's kinda like this," Nejire said as she slowly floated towards the artistic superhero. "I had to put in a LOT of training towards keeping my stamina up. Think of it as a superhero camp!" Nejire shouted to which Aquatint covered his ears.
'Well, there's not exactly a boot camp for superhero work, Nejire.' Aquatint thought to himself as he slowly started to walk around.
There was no lack of award tension between the duo. Well, with him at the very least. He doubted Nejire seemed to get caught off guard to do much of anything.
"Are you sure you're not going all out?" Aquatint stated before he rested himself on the ground.
'Seriously, I'm exhausted and she's not even winded! No wonder she's one of the big 3.' Aquatint thought to himself as Nejire slowly waited for him to climb up.
