Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of Ghost and Angel. Enjoy the 900-word chapter. I don't own Overwatch; Blizzard and a few others do.
"I know why you hate soldiers like me so much." Mercy heard, causing her to turn and look over Aadne who was slowly looking around. "Because you think we're monsters, killers who enjoy war, who feed off the suffering of people who can't fight or defend themselves," Aadne added, looking at himself while turning from his armor which sat in front of him.
Mercy was silent, unsure what to say at this moment. She knew that Aadne was an interesting specimen on the battlefield. He was a warrior, but she couldn't tell if he was trying to try and play her at the moment. Aadne was silent, unsure what the Black Watch soldier would do if given the power at the time to act.
"Do you want to point out something else besides that type of thing?" Mercy questioned to which Aadne was silent, clicking his fingers against his chest. "There's plenty to deal with at the time. I have plenty of patients to work upon." Mercy added as Aadne nodded.
"And I have to stop the Junkers. Their work ends up threatening everything here." Aadne stated, pausing to look at his ragged skin.
Mercy frowned at these scars. She didn't like Black Watch, finding the group as horrid and barbaric as the rest of Overwatch's enemies, but even then? She was NOT willing to let someone suffer just because she hated them.
That? And they were not Moira at the second, Mercy turned to Aadne who looked over the scars. She slowly walked across the room towards him as Aadne hummed, trying to turn away from Mercy who tried to look at it.
"I don't deserve your kindness," Aadne responded while he sighed and rubbed at the scars with interest. "I know what Overwatch thinks about the rest of Blackwatch. We're monsters, thugs, assassins." Aadne added as he shook his head and hummed.
"That makes you a monster to them?" Mercy questioned while she grabbed his arm. "you've told me at the moment that you are NOTHING like those members of Blackwatch. I cannot turn down someone's aid when it comes to keeping people alive. Do you think I'd let someone die just because they're from Blackwatch?" Mercy asked, trying to look at the wound better.
"Considering you know what Blackwatch has done?" Aadne questioned, raising an eyebrow as he nodded at the Overwatch member. "Yes, because you have no reason to care about the next move," Aadne added, rubbing at the wounds which caused Mercy to frown.
"You act as if I don't care about someone who isn't part of Overwatch." Mercy said to which Aadne was silent.
"I think care is wasted on me, doctor," Aadne responded, finally allowing the doctor to look at the wound in question. "I know what I've done. I know there's no happy ending where I walk into the sunset, everyone cheering my name. I'm at best a disgraced soldier at worst? A terrorist with a group of legally authorized butchers." Aadne added, pointing to the markings of Blackwatch.
He knew many of their missions were things that had to be done. There would always be wars wagged away from prying eyes, but that didn't make the blood spilled onto the ground any better. There was too much pain and suffering spread for him to enjoy it, he wasn't a monster like dozens of his comrades had been.
"And now you think yourself beyond reproach?" Mercy asked, looking at the scars with concern. "These are radiation scars. This area is poisoning you, isn't it?" Mercy questioned and got a look of confusion.
He knew there was only one answer so he nodded. He didn't know, to be honest, the medical portion of this was not something he could rasp, but he supposed he didn't have to. Mercy knew the answer and in a few minutes? She'd be able to pull it apart.
"I've lived long enough to think long and hard on my life. It will be a good death if I die having done something good with it." Aadne stated as he cracked his fingers. "I don't know what will happen next, but I don't care. It will be quite interesting when it comes down to it." Aadne stated as he clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth.
"This is going to be interesting, that's all I can say at the end of the day." Mercy stated as she looked around the roof of her buildings.
Aadne said nothing, for there was nothing to say, nothing to do or focus upon. All this work? Fueled little, but it was enough for her, and that was good enough in her mind at the end of the day.
And to her? It would have to be good enough at the moment. Something interesting when it came down to it.
Author Note
Phew. The next chapter is done! I want to point out that the next chapter will be in 2-10 months and will show both Mercy and Aadne bonding more and begin to show the beginning of Aadne's powers and such. Until then, Lighting Wolf out!
P.S: Next chapter will be 900-4500 words and such. It will be interesting when it comes down to it, but it is delayed.
