Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of Chilling Champion. Enjoy the 1200-word chapter. I don't own Pokémon, Nintendo and a few others.

He didn't know it was her at the moment. Then the sounds of cheering and shouting signaled her arrival. He smirked, remembering his last battle with the champion who was coming. The woman was something else and visiting him here? That was making him far more amused than he had any right to be here.

He slowly walked forward a moment later, every one of his Pokeballs adorning his hips.

"Hello, Cynthia." He said, putting his hands into his pocket once more.

The people of Floaroma Town moved out of the way as Mabrey slowly walked forward. He knew for a fact what she was here for. Cynthia leapt down from Braviary, her hand over her Pokémon as he ran a hand over the Pokeball in his hand.

"Hello, Mabrey." Cynthia said while Mabrey hummed and nodded to himself. "You told me to come find you if I ever wanted to finish the fight from before." Cynthia said as Mabrey passed the Pokeball to his other hand.

"And you wish to settle that fight from then?" Mabrey asked as he looked at the Pokémon within his hand as he brushed off his shirt.

Cynthia said nothing as Mabrey started to follow the Pokémon champion. He knew things were just going to become more interesting if they chose to stay here. There were far too many people for him to just stay here and wait for them to clear out.

"I didn't think you'd come back." Mabrey said as he looked at her with a raised eyebrow. "Are you seriously here to fight? Still? I thought that was why I sought you out to begin with, not the other way around." Mabrey asked with a small smile at the time.

Cynthia watched a small smirk cross his lips as he ran a hand over a familiar Pokeball. The one who held the Pokémon that he had used to fight her to a standstill.

"How's Maggy been since we last battled?" Cynthia asked, remembering the name he had told her before. "She's been resting alongside your Empoleon, yes?" Cynthia questioned while he nodded a second later and popped the Pokeball.

She watched as a Mismagius emerged from the Pokeball. She turned towards the woman with a tilt of its head, she chuckled and patted the Pokémon who floated next to her master.

"She remembers Garchomp, I'm guessing?" Cynthia questioned which got a nod. "Yes, I'm here for a rematch. Garchomp has been pacing back and forth. She never met someone who actually fought to it at the moment." Cynthia said and watched Mabrey run a hand over the Pokeball as he turned and started to think of what came before now.

"Shas a very patient girl, but yeah." Mabrey said as he put the Pokeball back into his belt. "She just got done with the healing, though. I wouldn't be that confrontational yet… Wasn't I the one like that when we last met?" Mabrey said while he paused to look around.

Cynthia smirked to herself. She turned and unleashed Garchomp from her Pokeball, the Pokémon looked at its new archenemy with interest. Mismagius smirked, a twisted expression pulling it's faded lips apart. Mabrey was quite aware of how the duo's talk look at the moment looked.

"You know, plenty of people probably think we're here for the title of champion." Cynthia heard from Mabrey before the two Pokémon turned to their owners. "But I wasn't there for that. It was never about the title; I always like testing myself against someone… And I'm sure both of us were fine with just a simple battle, aren't you?" Mabrey said as he patted Mismagius on the shoulder with amusement.

He could only hope they didn't come to blows early. He didn't want his home trashed because his Pokémon was annoyed, that would just scare him and make him annoyed.

"Mismagius…" Mismagius stated while turning to Mabrey who was busy eyeing the Pokémon, trying to ensure he didn't do something that would get people hurt.

"No, we are NOT fighting Cynthia, not yet." Mabrey said as Mismagius started to think at the moment.

He knew for a fact that things were going to be interesting. Mabrey started to think that he was curious about HOW this fight would go.

"You've come a LONG way for a rematch, you know." Mabrey said as he raised an eyebrow a second later. "You should know even if I win? I don't want the title. I'd never be able to enjoy it." Mabrey said while he sat down upon a boulder.

"Yes, you talked about that last time and I have NO idea what you meant." Cynthia stated which caused Mabrey to raise an eyebrow, curious as to what she believed in at the moment.

"Oh, you want me to explain?" Cynthia heard from Mabrey who slowly crossed his legs under him. "Let me ask you something, how FUN is it being the champion? Do you have anything you want to be considering the Elite Four here lost to you. You're the champion, the HIGHEST rank in Sinnoh." Cynthia stated while he crossed his fingers once more.

He was quite curious as he looked around while Cynthia took a seat next to him. He was quite interested in how the fight would come down to it soon enough.

"You don't want it because you don't think it's worth anything." Cynthia responded which got a shake of the head. "No?" Cynthia asked as Mabrey smiled a moment later.

"I don't think it's worth as much if there's no challenge." Mabrey said while he started to crack his fingers a second later. "You only lose the title if someone overcomes you, yeah? That means you haven't lost yet, which can be a mission." Mabrey said while opening another Pokeball.

Cynthia watched as Empoleon spilled out onto the ground once more. The Pokémon looked at it's user with such interest as he patted him on the head.

"I had to raise him from a Piplup." Mabrey stated as he rubbed the Pokémon's head a second later. "He was small and tiny, he had to grow, had to mature. It was nice. I'm sure your Garchomp evolved from a Gible when it comes down to it?" Mabrey asked as he started to point out that things were doing.

Mabrey said while he started to rub his temples once more as he was quite curious as he hummed to himself.

"You like evolving Pokémon and slowly starting to build up." Cynthia said which got a nod from Mabrey hummed and rubbed at his temples.

"Yep." Mabrey stated and shook the pain from his fingers. "Anyway? We can talk after we fight, you ready to try and finish this fight we started last time?" Mabrey asked as Cynthia nodded, curious as to what had caused this encounter.
