She knew her father was still angry at her for leaving. Their interaction had told her that much. He was studying her too closely. As she got her shower ready and climbed under the hot spray she could feel her muscles relax and her mind wandered to when she left.
In her defense, she couldn't handle the club life at that point. Just over two years ago, she was made to watch as Clay, Jax, and Opie beat Ty to a bloody pulp for catching him kiss her. To an extent, she couldn't blame the man when he and Kyle ran out on Opie a couple months later during the botched explosion. Yes, she knew it was some shady shit to run out on the club. But the day of the beating was when all hell started breaking loose.
Over the next month, the runners were excommunicated, Ope got arrested and sentenced to 3 years, Jax went off the rails and Clay blamed her for all of it. He said she started a rift in his club creating all the bad karma. After about 4 months of the verbal abuse, she was done and left for Seattle. While there, she went to nursing school and got her CNA license. After finishing school, she had been working at the local hospital during the day and as a bartender at night saving up every penny earned so she could get further away from California and SAMCRO. That plan changed the night Happy walked into her bar. She was the only bartender that night so there was no avoiding him.
Setting a beer in front of him she asked, "start a tab or paying cash by drink?
Recognizing the voice instantly, his eyes snapped to hers. "What are you doing here?"
"Clearly working," she replied waving her arms around the bar containing only 4 other patrons.
"Never a place I thought I'd see the SAMCRO princess," he mumbled back passing her a hundred for the beer. "Keep the change."
"Cause I'm not a princess here," she replied with an eye roll she turned around to put the cash in the till and start a tab. He watched her walk away to help an older man down the bar, giving him a beer and shot as she giggled. Walking back towards Happy, he couldn't help but watch her hips sway as she moved. "So why ya here? Dad got ya spying on me?"
"Nope, far from it. Just finished a job Lee sent me on and he told me to stick around a few days just to be sure it was finished. You're definitely the last person I expected to see when I stopped for a beer."
"Never heard of you half assing things so must be an important one if Lee's ordering you to stay. My shift is over in 45, if your still around, maybe I'll show ya around."
"Take her up on it sonny, I've been trying to get a date out of her for weeks and she always turns me down," the old man from down the bar informed him.
"I've told you before Gene, I'm not into that sugar baby lifestyle." Lexi replied while replacing Happy's beer. Leaning across the bar, she whispered to Happy, "Ya may wanna check your cut, Killa. Got left overs from your job. I'll bring ya some cleaner."
Looking down, Happy saw the spots she was talking about. No clue how he had missed those but he quickly got up and went to the bathroom. last thing he needed was Gene to scoot closer and see. Usually Happy's demeanor scared others away but for some reason it didn't with the old man. Within 5 minutes, she was in the bathroom with dish soap. "Sorry, everyone except Gene decided they were leaving once you left the room. Couldn't imagine why they'd be scared of the big bad biker."
"Hopefully didn't cost ya any tips," he said as he started scrubbing the blood from his cut.
"Nah, Wednesday is always slow so I don't expect much and Gene will leave atleast $50."
"Why are you even out here working? You'd be plenty taken care of in Charming."
"It was time for the princess to grow up," she said simply leaving the small room.
When Happy left the bathroom, he didn't see anyone in the main room of the bar. Tossing a couple more bills in the tip jar, he went outside. Seeing only one car in the parking lot, he figured Lexi must be closing up shop for the night. Leaning against his bike, he decided to light a cigarette and wait for her. After about 20 minutes she walked out the door, locking it behind her.
"Here's your change from your tab," Lexi said, trying to hand the money to him.
"Keep it," he replied, tossing his cigarette to the ground.
"No way. I already know the mysterious $200 in my tip jar came from you. I won't take your money."
"It's a tip, you have no choice," Happy shot back, raising an eyebrow at her seeing if she'd continue the argument.
"Well then, I guess you better follow me home," she said walking towards her Lexus. "Least I can do is give ya a place to stay while in town. My apartment is small but my couch is comfy."
"Nah, I'll find a hotel." Climbing on his bike he started it and it roared it to life.
"You'll follow me with no arguments. Consider it club hospitality. You wouldn't argue with my ma," She told him climbing into her car. Seeing him wave her forward with his arm, she knew she had him.
From that night on, Happy was in Seattle atleast every other week. Always coming into the bar, leaving outrageous tips and crashing on her couch. He couldn't explain why he kept coming back but the girl had him hooked. She was independent and knew the life. He didn't have to hide from her and found it oddly refreshing to talk about shit he usually kept hidden. Happy staying over happened for about 3 months before they ended up in bed together.
The details of that night were still pretty fuzzy. All she really remembered was taking the night off from the bar, she was starting to get burned out and needed a break. Happy showed up on her doorstep a little after 8 with 2 bottles of patron. They made it through one bottle and things went blank. Next morning, she woke up with a screaming headache, completely naked and them wrapped up in each other's limbs.
What happened that night was never acknowledged but since that night, when he'd visit he no longer slept on the couch. She had been the one to initiate sex roughly a month later when he stayed and there were no regrets from either side. Soon it became routine. He'd show up during her shift, come stay the night, they'd have breakfast at the small cafe down the road and he'd head back for Tacoma.
When she discovered she was pregnant, he demanded she quit working and come stay with him in Tacoma. They fought for a few weeks, her saying she didn't need the club and their dirty money to support their child, that she could make her own. But she finally agreed when he brought up she'd no longer be able to work both jobs, and couldn't raise a child in her tiny apartment, not to mention childcare costs. She lost all her arguments but put in place the stipulation being the club couldn't know. The last thing she needed was another Ty incident.
