Leaving the men at the table, Lexi's mind started to wander with all the possible outcomes of what Happy was about to do. The sound of metal being crunched and sudden gunshots filled her ears. On instinct Lexi dropped to the ground not even registering the pavement and random pebbles cutting into her skin. Her eyes scanned the lot wildly, seeing flashes of black leather all around her as she tried tried to find the source of gunfire.
"Lex, fuck, are you okay?" She could hear someone shouting at her, but it seemed far away. Hands suddenly gripped her shoulders and shook her back into reality.
There was an older blue dodge with what looked like a dead body in the driver's seat crashed into some oil drums by the garage. Her father was shouting orders at a prospect to get it pulled into a bay and locked down. He then had Chibs on gun duty. Telling them to start throwing all illegal firearms in the hole. Piney, Bobbie, and her mother were making sure everyone inside was okay, though a few children were a bit shook up.
Happy sat right in front of her, hands still slightly shaking her in an attempt to get her to focus. Kozik was to his right, ripping off his kutte and shirt from underneath it and pushing the shirt against her upper arm. Only then did she realize she was bleeding. Her eyes met Happy's in utter terror.
"The baby," seemed to be the only words she could form.
"Finally, you're back in the world of the living!" Kozik exclaimed. "Fuck, ya had us worried for a second girl."
"Can you stand?" Happy inquired gently. He didn't want to push her but Unser and his men were sure to show up at any moment. The club couldn't have them find his girl sitting here bleeding. It was bad enough he should be helping clear the lot but seeing her go down, he couldn't focus on anything else at that moment. "Baby..." he tried again, bringing one hand to her cheek.
"I can try," she mumbled still not completely coherent in the current situation.
She felt like she was in a tunnel and couldn't get out. The guys helped her to her feet as to not strain her arm. Kozik keeping a tight grip on his shirt trying to stop her bleeding. 'Thank God it's black so I can't see the blood,' she thought to herself. All the years of seeing blood in the club or working in the hospital, nothing nauseated her more with this pregnancy than blood and she had no clue why. She couldn't even wash Happy's clothes when he came home after a job. He'd taken to coming in through the garage, stripping his clothes and getting them set aside to be washed or burned and showering in the garage bathroom as to not disturb her.
Seeing she was struggling to walk even just a few steps and already starting to get woozy, Happy quickly scooped her up in his arms, he told Kozik, "Let's get her in the chapel. Less eyes." Walking past where Clay stood, he quickly derailed his list of orders he was shouting seeing his daughter in the club enforcer's arms.
"What happened?" He demanded of the men.
"Caught a ricochet," Happy grunted back. He didn't have time for an inquiry. His girl, the mother of his child, had been shot. "We got it." He shot over his shoulder as he continued walking away.
"Shit, Lexi. What the fuck happened?" Gemma practically shouted following the men into the room as Happy laid Lexi down on the end of the table and Kozik went to grab the medic kit. "Baby girl can you hear me?"
"Baby," Lexi mumbled barely intelligible, coming back into consciousness just slightly. Happy's eyes got huge and shot to Gemma at Lexi's words. As he tried gauging her reaction, he realized Gemma must not have heard or they'd be in a whole other mess.
"What, Lexi?" Gemma asked again only getting mumbles in response.
Happy pulled away Kozik's shirt covering her arm to look closer at the situation. Seeing that the bullet had cut through the side of her sleeve he knew the shirt needed to go or it would be in the way. Only problem being, he couldn't risk Gemma seeing her growing stomach and not being suspicious. Especially when it seemed to protrude more when she was laying flat. 'Fuck' he mentally chastised himself. "Gemma, I need warm water, wash rags and towels to clean this up."
"Send a sweet butt, I'm not leaving my daughter."
"Now! And close the fucking door behind you," he growled at her hearing the sirens getting closer to the lot as more of the men were coming back in to check on their families and guests now that the jobs had been done. Looking at him in shock she quickly left the room. She knew how easily his temper could be set off so she chose not to push it.
Grabbing a discarded jacket from a chair, he cut off her shirt and quickly covered her chest to protect her modesty. Bunching majority of the jacket around her stomach in an attempt to hide her bump, he looked to his brother in arms for silent confirmation.
"I think we're good. I didn't realize she was showing that much."
"Shit man she's almost half way and she was tiny before it happened. I'm just shocked she still hides it so well," he replied, watching his girl mumble and whimper. There was a knock at the door before it opened and Gemma walked back in with the cleaning supplies.
Happy quickly got to work cleaning her wound while Kozik got everything ready for stitches. The bullet seemed to just graze her but the blood loss still worried him. The baby suffered from her family flaw. She herself suffered from it herself as well as her mother and brother both did. It was one of the first things they mentioned to the doctors as well as making note of his mother's cancer. They were able to get tested early enough and along with modern technology, they had been working on monitoring it with preparations to do surgery as soon as their child was born.
As he got to the last of the stitches, he felt her wince with every needle poke. Looking down at her face, he made eye contact confirming she had finally made it through her confusion after being shot. "Ya with me princess?" He asked with a concerned look.
Glaring back she replied, "Excuse me for zoning out when I get shot at. Didn't realize that was included in the 'coming home for safety' package forced on me." she finished with an eye roll and sitting up.
A sharp smack reverberated through the room before Happy even saw Gemma's hand connect. His hands were instantly in fists as he bit the inside of his cheek trying to hold back his growl. Kozik stepped closer just in case. Happy didn't take well to Lexi being disrespected, no matter who it came from.
"Don't ever disrespect a member like that. I raised you better and you best mind your fucking manners." Gemma scolded.
"Sorry Happy," Lexi mumbled rubbing her cheek as a handprint appeared.
"Just don't let it happen again," he replied with a discreet nod of his head knowing what Gemma wanted to hear.
"Gemma, let's leave Happy finish what he's doing and find out if they need us out front. Unser's probably already here and no one can get through to him like you," Kozik intervened and led the queen of bikers from the room seeing the couple needed to talk. As soon as the door closed, Happy's hands were on Lexi's face examining the mark. Looking up at him so their eyes met, she finally let the tears fall. She wasn't going to grant her mother the satisfaction of seeing them.
"Hey, baby, shhhh it's okay," he soothed.
"I'm so sorry Hap. It was my fault, I didn't even think. I know she raised me to respect the club. Our normal banter isn't a problem with us but is for her. I just forgot how different things were here," she sniffled through her tears.
"I'm not upset with you. She never should have put hands on you I don't care who she is." Kissing her forehead, he held her close until she finally stopped crying. Leaning back, his brown eyes connected with her crystal blue ones. He hated seeing the pain and fear. She deserved better than this shit. "You good?" he asked testing the waters.
"I think so. I just want so badly to go home Hap. I don't want to be here anymore. I hate it here. I want to be in our little house, working on the nursery. Being able to touch you and not second guess every choice I make. Be able to crawl into our bed with you at night. Feeling safe with your arms wrapped around me. Fuck if I'm being completely honest, I don't want shot again for that matter." She said with a dry laugh.
"That'll never happen again," he informed her. "When this shooting shit is done, I'll take it to the table, then I'm taking you home no matter the outcome. I told you I'd protect you and clearly I fucked up. I won't do that again."
"Babe, this wasn't your fault," Lexi said, placing her hands on his cheek and resting her head against his. "This is SAMCRO. They drug us into this situation. If I could have stayed home in Tacoma this never would have happened."
"I'll finish it," he said with determination. "You won't be in harm's way again. Until we go home, I want you in Jax's dorm. Only come out to eat." Leaning forward he kissed her desperately. Finding strength in each others kiss, Lexi spread her legs so Happy could bring his body closer. she wrapped her arms around his waste and brought her hand up under his kutte and shirt. Feeling her nails lightly scrape up his back, Happy ran his tongue along her bottom lip, asking permission she quickly granted. Just as his tongue entered her mouth and their battle started, they heard the doors to the chapel open and they sprang apart quickly.
"What the fuck is this?" Clay yelled looking at his daughter sitting on the Redwood without a shirt alone in the room with his enforcer.
