Back in time

Chapter 2

When Tommy woke up, it took him a moment to remember what had happened the night before. When he did, her looked down to see that Kira had moved so that her head was resting on his chest. He took a moment to admire how beautiful she was before slowly extracting himself from the bed, making sure to not wake her. He made his way to the bathroom, quickly getting changed for the day before heading back into the room. He wrote a note for her, which he left on the nightstand and made his way downstairs. He made quick work of breakfast before making his way to the school in his jeep.

"Morning Alice." He greeted as he walked into the office, smiling at the receptionist.

"Dr Oliver. I have some paperwork for you about your next field trip." She replied, handing over a stack of papers to him.

"Thanks Alice." He said before leaning on the desk. "Just thought I'd let you know about an absence today. Kira Ford, she won't be in today."

"And how do you know this, Dr Oliver?" A voice asked, making him sigh before turning around to see Principle Randall behind him.

"Miss Ford was injured at the karate club I run last night. She suffered from some bruised ribs and a concussion. I knew that she would be in a lot of pain today, so I told her to stay home and rest for the day." He replied, making the principle narrow her eyes.

"And what made you think you were in charge of who attends school and who doesn't?" She sneered, making him grind his teeth.

"I told Miss Ford to go to the hospital as I know from experience what these sorts of injuries do. I knew that the concussion alone would put her on bed rest, let alone the bruised ribs." He said, trying not to snap at her.

"Well, maybe you should supervise your little club better." She snapped before leaving. Tommy sighed before turning to look at Alice.

"Well, that went well." He said, making her smile.

"Anyone would think you ran over her cat." She said, making him smirk.

"Nah. The cat would have run away long before then. I probably put it out of its misery." He joked before making his way to his classroom, trying to get Kira out of his head so that he could focus on his lessons.

Kira groaned as she woke up, the pain in her ribs increasing as she moved. She glanced around, noticing she was in Tommy's room before remembering what happened the night before. She was embarrassed that she had cried in front of him, but part of her knew that he didn't care about that. She looked at the clock on the nightstand and saw a piece of paper propped up with her name on it. She picked it up and smiled as she noticed Tommy's writing.

Morning Ptera.

Hope you slept well. Don't worry about last night, I know you're embarrassed but you shouldn't be. I'm just happy that you were honest with me.

I hope you don't mind, but I told Hayley about what happened. Don't worry, I didn't tell her about us, and before you rant at me, I did it to help you. She is going to take you to the hospital since I'm pretty sure you have some bruised ribs at the least. I only asked Hayley because I knew you would prefer her to go with you and she is happy to help.

I know that you're scared, even if you are trying to hide it, but I promise you that I will do everything in my power to help you. After all, part of the ranger code is to protect everyone, even your own team.

When you're awake enough, there is breakfast waiting for you in the kitchen. You'll just need to heat it up in the microwave. Your guitar is still in the lab, before you start panicking. I know better than to move it. And don't worry about school. I knew you wouldn't feel up to it, so I'll ask one of the guys to take notes for you.

Tommy

Kira smiled to herself as she read the letter, reminding her of why she loved her Brachio. She got up and went down to the lab, opening the cupboard that she knew had a couple of extra clothes for her, Conner, Ethan and Trent. Occasionally their clothes would get dirty or torn during a fight, so they decided to keep some extras in the lab so that their parents didn't wander what happened. She got changed quickly before going up the stairs and walking to the kitchen, seeing that Tommy had made her a full English breakfast, as well as some French toast. She heated it all up in the microwave and was just washing her dishes when there was a knock at the door. She looked out of the window and saw Hayley's car where Tommy's jeep usually sat.

"Door's open Hayley." She shouted, assuming Tommy had forgot to lock it again. Her suspicion was confirmed when the red headed woman walked into the room. "Why do you still knock? None of us do anymore. You can pretty much guarantee that Dr O forgot to lock the door." She said with a laugh.

"I know. But old habits die hard." The older woman said, smiling gently at the yellow ranger. "Tommy told me what happened." She said, making Kira sigh. "Do you want me to take you to the hospital?"

"No. I've had worse injuries and not gone to hospital." She replied, sitting down at the table with a cup of tea. "What else did Dr O ask you to do? I know he's more paranoid than that."

"He asked if I had any way to prove what your father did. I told him that it would be a long shot and I couldn't guarantee finding anything." She replied, watching the young girl with interest. She didn't know how she was so calm about everything. Kira sighed before standing up, grabbing her bag from the hall. "Where are you going?"

"I need you to take me home." She said, holding her hand up before Hayley could protest. "It's not like that. I just need to pick up some stuff. I know what Dr O is trying to do, and I may have something that can help."

"Kira… Are you sure that is a good idea?" Hayley asked.

"My parents are out of Reefside until Saturday. The house is empty." She replied, walking towards the door. "Now come on. There is something you need to see."

The drive to Kira's was quiet, Hayley watching Kira as much as she watched the road. She didn't know what she would say to Tommy when he found out. When they pulled up at the house, Kira didn't hesitate before getting out of the car and entering the house, Hayley a couple of steps behind.

"Wait here." Kira mumbled before she headed up the stairs. Hayley stayed where she was for a second before Kira came back, her laptop in hand. "Here. I was recording a new song when it happened. Just look at the last opened file." She handed the laptop to Hayley before heading back up the stairs. Hayley sat at the table and opened the file in question, smiling slightly as Kira starting singing in the video. She frowned as she watched what happened next, seeing how her father had abused her and how she pleaded for help that never came.

"Oh my." Hayley whispered, unable to keep watching. She turned and frowned at something in the corner of the room, getting closer to see that it was blood.

"It's mine." Kira said, making Hayley spin around in shock, seeing Kira stood behind her. "From that night. I came down here to leave and he threw a glass at me before throwing me against the wall." She turned and lifted her shirt and Hayley could see a long cut stretching from the lower left to the middle of her back. "I would have fought, or used my Ptera scream, but I couldn't."

"I understand." She said, giving the girl a hug. "Get those in the car. I'll be there in a minute." As soon as Kira left the house, Hayley sent a copy of the video to her emails and took a photo of the blood. She then went to Kira's room and took photos in there. She left the house and went back to the car, ready to get Kira the help she needed.

Tommy sighed as his last class of the day finished and three boys stood in front of his desk as the room cleared, all watching him with narrowed eyes. He waited for the last person to leave the room before looking at the three waiting for him.

"Where's Kira?" Conner asked before Tommy could say anything. "She hasn't been here all day."

"She's at my house." Tommy said, holding a hand up to stop their interruptions. "Look, she probably doesn't want to talk about this, but she stayed in my spare room last night. She explained something that happened at home, and I told her not to come in today. The rest she can tell you when she's ready." The boys all started shouting before a sound from their communicators silenced them. "Go ahead Hayley."

"Attack downtown. Zeltrax and a lot of Tyrannodrones." The redheaded woman replied, making the boys share a look.

"What about Kira?" Trent asked, pulling Tommy's wrist and communicator towards him.

"I'll meet you guys there." Kira's voice replied.

"Are you sure?" Tommy asked, his voice hesitant.

"I'm fine. Nothing broken. Now, are you going to morph or not?" The boys shared a look, all thinking the same thing. No one in their right mind would argue with a yellow ranger.

"Ok, but we're going to come back to that nothing broken comment later. Let's do it." Conner said as they all got into their stances. "Dino Thunder! Power up!" They called as Trent got into his stance, calling "White ranger, Dino power!"
