Happy and his brothers pulled into the driveway of his home as the sun was beginning to rise. It had been a very long night but nothing mattered more to him than getting Lexi back into his arms. The two days apart were too long given the current situation. The group of men walked in through the back door of Happy's home. While everyone made their way into the living room, Happy couldn't help his eyes from searching around the house looking for Lexi.
As they rounded the final corner, Happy saw Kozik passed out in one of the recliners, a small group of members playing cards at the kitchen table and Jessie making breakfast but didn't see Lexi anywhere and assumed she must still be asleep upstairs. Hearing the men come in, Jessie turned greeting her husband first, then his other brothers before finally coming to Happy. The only thing he wanted was to get upstairs to Lexi but he knew he needed to pay his respects to Jessie for staying and caring for Lexi.
"Good to see you home Happy," Jessie said pulling him into a hug. He never was one for physical contact but Jessie didn't care. Over the years, she continued to push until he stopped fighting her hugs.
"Thanks Jessie. It's good to be home. Thank you for taking care of Lexi too. I know she can be a handful when things aren't going her way."
"Nonsense! She's a young pregnant soon to be mother. Her hormones are everywhere right now. I'm sure you're missing her as much as she is you though so why don't you go join her."
"Will do," Happy replied quickly leaving the kitchen and taking the stairs two at a time to get to his girl as quickly as he could.
Happy couldn't help but chuckle as he tried opening the door only to realize it was locked. He unlocked the door only to swell with pride as he saw Lexi laying in their bed, shifted just slightly so the window and door were both in her line of vision with his Beretta pistol laying right next to her. He knew she had grown up in the life, but these little things were tactics he had taught her in case he was on a run and Kozik couldn't stay at the house with her. He needed to guarantee she could defend herself if he wasn't around. After closing the door he quietly stripped down to his boxers, moved the Beretta to the nightstand and crawled into bed behind Lexi.
Feeling the bed shift Lexi instantly jumped only to realize she was being held in place by a pair of strong arms from behind her. She then tried reaching for the pistol she knew was in bed right next to her when she went to sleep only to now find it was now on the nightstand.
"Fuck!" She said starting to fight against the arms.
"I mean we could but I'd really like to get some sleep first," a gravely voice said from behind her.
"Hap!" She practically shouted rolling over in his arms and wrapping her own around his neck.
His grin clearly mirroring hers before he leaned in to kiss her. The desperation and need for each other clearly showing as their lips connected. Without breaking the kiss, Happy rolled to his back pulling her on top of him while she straddled his lap. His grip firm as he tried holding her hips still while she ground their centers together. After a few more minutes in the heavy make out session, Lexi drew back getting only a grown in response from Happy.
"Is everyone still downstairs?" She asked curious to see if their bubble was still being invaded.
"Yeah, Jessie was making breakfast for everyone when we get here."
"Ohh," she replied chewing on her lip looking away from him.
He could see the exhaustion clearly evident on her face. Her eyes with dark bags under them while also swollen and red from what he guessed was a night full of tears and uncertainty. Hair haphazardly thrown in a bun while the rest of her body was hidden beneath his hoodie that seemed ten sizes too big. Bringing one hand up from her hip to cup her cheek, he turned her face back towards his.
"Hey, don't worry. I'm home now," he told her trying to help her relax. The last thing they needed was a stress induced issue with the twins.
"But how Hap? What even happened in the first place? And why in God's name did you leave me at my fucking parent's house?"
"Lex, baby, breathe," he said trying to calm her again. "Tig got stuck in Niners territory and needed back up. I couldn't get you awake and no way way in hell was I bringing you on my bike in that condition. Jax suggested leaving you at Gem and Clay's and we would pick you up when we got back. As soon as we got Tig, the cops showed up and we couldn't shake em. When we split, they kept on me and got me cornered. Said they were charging me with destruction of property. That's when Lowen showed up trying to get me released. When they couldn't hold me on destruction charges, all of a sudden the Mayan body we just took care of popped up and they said it was flagged for my DNA."
"But why? And why was it only your DNA? Didn't Tig deal with him too? You're always so careful I don't understand how this happened," she said snuggling into his chest, thinking it was just another dream but wanting to take as much advantage of it as she could.
"He did, and I don't know babe. It's all pretty fishy. When Lowen said he couldn't get the murder charges dropped, then I had Lee come up with our lawyer. He had one of the guys alter some video from the shop showing me doing a session around the time of the murder. Once that was turned in the detective had to let me go. That's what we were doing when I talked to you yesterday."
"Why couldn't you just tell me you were getting out? I was worried sick. Not to mention a total bitch to Kozik cuz he wouldn't let me see you before I left."
"I'm sorry. I couldn't tell you. We were still in the interrogation room so I was waiting til we were in the clear. We couldn't risk you being seen at the station. Koz told me when you got here but at that point, I just wanted to get home to you."
"So now what?"
"The lawyer said the DNA was planted. We have video evidence in our favor so unless they get video of me killing the person, which they won't, I'm in the clear. I'm home babe."
"And where do we sit in SAMTAC now? We aren't exactly hidden anymore."
"You're my old lady. You'll be protected by the club at all costs. That's all that matters," He told her, hugging her tighter and kissing the top of her head.
"But I don't have your ink."
"They don't care. Lee understands the situation and after the twins are born, you'll have my ink."
"You sure?"
"If you are. I've never been so sure of anything in my life. Which reminds me," he said leaning towards his nightstand and pulling something from the drawer. "This is for you, if you want this life that is."
Happy pulled Bec's ring from Lexi's ring finger and replaced it with the one in his own hand. It was a beautifully intricate gold ring. The main stone was turquoise with diamonds surrounding it and running down the band on either side. Lexi was in awe as it sparkled in the sunlight coming through their window.
"Happy it's gorgeous!" She gushed. She couldn't take her eyes off it.
"It's been in my family for generations. It was why I wanted us to go see Ma. I planned on giving it to you then."
"You saying this is what you want? Me, kids, and a domesticated life?"
"Have you ever known me to ask for things I didn't want?"
"True," Lexi told him pulling him into a deep kiss.
"That a yes then?" He asked her.
"Yes! Yes, of course!! I want nothing more!"
"Even with the club?" He asked knowing that had been a breaking point for her in the past.
"I can't have you without it and I don't want life without you," she told him without falter.
When he heard those words coming from her mouth he knew it would be enough for him. She never did want the life of a club life. Yet she was choosing him, choosing the club. But here he was making a future decision he never thought he'd make either. He always assumed he'd be a lone wolf, using sweet butts when he needed a release. Here he sat with a beautiful woman, pregnant with his children in a house they had made a home. He may not have thought he deserved this life but it was his and he'd do everything he could to keep it.
"Breakfast!" The couple heard Jessie call from downstairs.
"Let's get you and the twins some food," Happy said getting out of bed and starting to walk towards the door.
"Hap?"
"Yeah babe?" He asked turning back to Lexi who was still on the bed.
"Did you talk to anyone before coming up here?"
"Jessie a bit. I thanked her for sticking around. Why?" He asked now curious as to what what bothering her.
"SAMCRO knows about the fake marriage. Jax said Ma is trying to get daddy to bring her up here to try making me go back to Cali. Even if he doesn't, I wouldn't put it past her to show up on her own."
"Not gonna happen. If she does show up on her own, she has no foot to stand on without Clay. You're mine. Safe here in our home. I'll stay here at the house in case they show up. I'll talk to Lee about what he wants to do if they show up at the club house."
"I love you," she replied.
"I love you too Sweets. Now let's go eat. Jessie may seem patient but it doesn't last long."
His answer was good enough for her. He had proven time and time again he took the best care of Lexi as he possibly could. She was legally an adult and couldn't be forced by her parents to go back but she also knew that wouldn't stop them. She decided she'd take Happy's lead and not letting her parents get to her. Instead she got out of bed, watched Happy get dressed and followed him out the door downstairs to have breakfast with her new pseudo family.
