Back in Time
Chapter 14
"CONNER!" The yell resounded throughout the cabin and could be heard from outside, meaning all of the rangers out there jumped at the sound. "GET YOUR ASS BACK HERE!"
"What's going on?" Kim asked, looking ready to jump up if she needed.
"Conner's probably done something to Kira." Dr O said, shrugging his shoulders.
"You're not worried?" Trini asked, frowning as she saw Conner sprinting out of the door.
"She won't kill him." Trent said, laying back down to enjoy the sun.
"She'll just maim him." Ethan said, not looking away from the card game he was playing with Billy.
"I'm sorry!" Conner called as Kira stormed out of the door after him. "I didn't mean it! I swear!"
"Don't you give me that 'I'm sorry' crap!" Kira snapped, still marching towards him as he stumbled backwards.
"What did he do this time?" Dr O asked, worried that, even though Trent said she wouldn't, she was going to kill the red ranger.
"He walked in on me in the shower!" She shouted, making everyone look at Conner in shock, Dr O taking in Kira's wet hair as he tried not to get up and kill the red ranger himself for walking in on his girlfriend.
"I didn't mean to! I didn't know you were in there!" He protested, using his Tyranno speed to move away when she got too close.
"IF YOU USE YOUR BLOODY TYRANNO SPEED AGAIN I SWEAR TO GOD I WILL USE MY PTERA SCREAM ON YOU EVERY MORNING FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE!" She screamed at him, the rangers wincing.
"Conner!" Dr O shouted, making the red ranger freeze. "You walked in on her. Stay still and accept your punishment." The colour drained out of Conner's face as Kira walked closer to him.
"Not the face!" He whimpered, moving his arms up to protect his face. Kira smiled sweetly before using her leg to swipe Conner's out from under him, sending him falling onto his back, knocking the wind out of his lungs.
"Walk in on me again and you will be dead." She snapped, turning around and storming back into the cabin.
"Damn, she's fierce." Zach said, making Ethan and Trent laugh.
"She's a yellow." Dr O replied, getting confused looks from the Mighty Morphin rangers.
"What?" Jason asked.
"A yellow ranger." Dr O replied with a slight smirk as Conner slowly stood up and made his way over to the rest of them. "Each colour tends to have specific personality traits. Yellows are strong, loyal, fierce and bloody dangerous if you cross them." He looked at Conner as he slowly sat down, still trying to catch his breath. "You learnt your lesson?"
"Yep." He muttered, getting laughs from the rest of his team.
"Is it always like this with you guys?" Tommy asked, looking at how the Dino Thunder seemed to have a strange team dynamic. Even though Dr O was their science teacher and there was a significant age difference, the teens still treated him like he was one of them. They still managed to have a good laugh with each other and have good banter between them. Tommy had noticed the way that his older self looked at the yellow Dino Thunder ranger, because it was the way that he looked at Kim. None of the others would spot this look, because it was so subtle, but Tommy knew it.
"Pretty much." Ethan laughed. "At least when someone isn't being evil, and someone isn't creating our bad guys."
"I get it! I created them! I'm sorry! Can we drop it now?" Dr O cried, throwing his hands in their air as he did.
"And it's not my fault I was evil! Mesagog messed with my gem!" Trent moaned, ignoring the smirks on Conner and Ethan's faces.
"Man, you guys are easy to wind up." Conner laughed, dodging Dr O's smack as he did. Kira walked out of the cabin, taking a moment to watch the scene in front of her for a minute. She sighed as she looked at Kim and Tommy, looking at how she leaned against him, always finding a reason to be touching him. She also saw the look that Dr O gave them, a look that made her heart ache. She knew Dr O, and she knew that whenever he looked at his past self with Kim, he looked at them with sadness. She didn't know what caused that sadness, but she assumed that it was longing and wishing that he had the relationship back. She hoped that he was being truthful when he said he no longer had feelings for the pink ranger, but a part of her felt like he was just lying to himself.
"Hey Kira, you ok?" Conner called, making her snap out of her thoughts as everyone turned to look at her.
"Yeah." She took a quick look down, thankful that she had put on the gym clothes Trini had brought her a couple of days ago. "I'm going to go for a run. I need a bit of exercise."
"Do you want some company?" Dr O asked, frowning slightly
"No. I'm good. See you in a bit." She said before taking off jogging into the woods, trying to take her mind off of her worries. She ran through the woods, dodging trees when needed and trying to keep the tears back.
She had been running for a long time before she stopped, bending over slightly so that she could catch her breath. She leant against a tree, closing her eyes as she did, trying to process what was going through her mind. She thought back to when Dr O first told her how he felt, remembering how special he made her feel.
*flashback*
Kira was in Dr O's back yard, doing some stretches and controlling her breathing, preparing herself for the training session she was about to have with Dr O.
"You ready Kira?" She turned her head and saw the black ranger walk out of the house, wearing loose, grey jogging bottoms and a black tank.
"Yep. We sparring or trying new combinations?" She asked, trying not to stare at the muscles she could see on his arms and in his tight tank. Kira had tried to forget about her crush on him, tried to get past it and just focus on being his teammate and student, but she was finding it very difficult to not stare at him at the moment.
"Let's warm up and then we can spar." He said. They went through their warm up, Kira trying very hard not to look at Dr O as she did. The two rangers had been having training sessions together for a while, Kira being the only one of the Dino Thunder team to take Dr O up on his offer of extra training, Ethan and Conner both saying they had enough training when Mesagog attacks, and Trent hiding behind his job at Cyberspace. Kira felt like she was getting close to Dr O, and he had opened up to her about quite a few things from his past.
"You think you're ready?" He asked, smirking at she got into a fighting stance.
"Bring it." She replied, a smirk playing on her lips. Dr O slipped into a fighting stance and they began sparring, Kira taking a mostly defensive stance, blocking a lot of Dr O's attacks and returning some of her own. She felt a sense of pride when she managed to block Dr O's kick, using his raised leg and momentum to trip him, staying in her fighting stance as he got back up.
"You're getting better." He said with a smile as they moved around each other. "Not even Conner has managed to trip me."
"That just shows how good I am." She replied.
"Let's kick it up a gear." He said, making her frown before he began his attacks. Her eyes widened slightly as she deflected his attacks, not having the chance to do any attacks of her own. Without warning, Dr O swept her legs out from under her, sending her falling onto her back. As she fell, she grabbed his arm and pulled him down with her. They landed with a thud, both breathing heavily as it took them a moment to realise how they fell. Kira was laying on her back, and Dr O had fallen on top of her, their faces millimetres away from each other. They were both breathing heavily, but neither made a move to stand up. They stared into each other's eyes, not realising that they were getting closer to each other until Kira could feel his lips not far from hers. Without thinking, she closed the distance between them and pressed her lips to his, closing her eyes. For a split second, Dr O froze and Kira was about to pull away, but before she could, he started to kiss her back, his hand finding its way into her hair and hers moving to the back of his neck.
They both pulled away for breath, looking into each other's eyes until Kira realised what she just did, and her eyes went wide. "Oh my god." She breathed, making Dr O frown as she moved, trying to push him off her slightly.
"Kira?" He asked, getting up so that she could stand up, taking a step away and running her hands through her hair.
"Oh my god. I can't believe I just did that." She said, her eyes still wide and Dr O could see the slight panic in them. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to do that. I don't know what happened."
"Kira…" Dr O started, trying to reach for her as she paced slightly.
"I've got to go. I'm sorry. Just forget that happened. I didn't mean it." She said, going to move around him, only to stop when he grabbed her wrist to stop her from walking away.
"Kira." He said, making her look up at him with tears in her eyes. "Don't go."
"Dr O, I just kissed you. I have to go." She said, looking away and trying to pull her arm free.
"Stop." He said, putting his hands on her shoulders and holding her in place. "Kira, I wanted that too." She froze, looking up at him in shock.
"What?" She breathed.
"Kira, I've tried to ignore the way that I feel about you. But I can't. Not anymore. I want to be with you Kira, more than as a friend or teammate. I really like you and I care about you so much." He said, making her speechless. She hadn't thought for one second that he might feel the same way about her.
"I feel the same way." She said, smiling up at him sweetly, before frowning and shaking her head. "But I'm your student. You can get into a lot of trouble."
"I could get into a lot of trouble for being a ranger too, but that hasn't stopped me from suiting up." He said with a smile. "We just can't tell anyone. You graduate soon, and you're 18, you're of age."
"How would this work?" She asked, looking up at him.
"We'll figure that out as we go." He said, leaning down to kiss her again.
*end flashback*
She let a tear fall down her check as she thought back to that moment. Dr O had made her feel so special, had treated her like she was the most important person around. He treated her like nothing else and no one else mattered, and looking at how he used to be with Kim, at how he now looked at them with longing and sadness, it broke her heart that he might not feel that way about her. For a moment, she was worried that he saw her school girl crush and decided to lead her on for some entertainment, or to take his mind off of Kim. As soon as the thought entered her head, she hated herself for thinking it.
"You idiot." She muttered, putting her head back against the tree she was leaning against. "Tommy's not like that." She just prayed that they could get back to their own time soon and then everything would go back to normal. "Whatever normal is when you're a ranger."
"There is nothing normal about your situation." A voice said, making Kira jump away from the tree and slip into a fighting stance, seeing Zedd and Zeltrax in front of her with Tyrannodrones surrounding them.
"What do you two want?" She snapped, cursing herself for running through the woods on her own.
"We want to know how you are planning to stop us." Zedd asked, moving closer to her.
"How can I stop you when I don't know what you're planning?" She replied, sarcasm lacing her voice.
"You Brat." Zedd hissed. "How do you plan to stop us from killing Tommy Oliver? Because whatever you're planning, you should know that you won't succeed."
"You want to kill Dr O? Good luck. You'll have an army of rangers to go through first." She snapped, trying to keep an eye on Zeltrax and all of the Tyrannodrones at the same time. "And besides, why would I tell you what we're planning? I thought that was the bad guys idiocy to explain their evil plans to the good guys."
"I think you need a lesson on keeping your mouth shut." Zeltrax snapped, taking a step closer.
"And I think you two need another lesson on why you don't corner me." She snapped before unleashing her Ptera scream, sending the Tyrannodrones and two bad guys flying backwards. They all stood up, Kira noticing how Zedd's skin seemed to glow in his anger.
"Attack." He snapped. Kira took stock of the amount of Tyrannodrones charging for her, taking a moment to pray that the others had heard her scream and were on their way to help.
