Back in Time

Chapter 26

Tommy paced the waiting room of the hospital restlessly, waiting to hear any news from the doctors.

"Tommy, will you sit down already? You're going to wear a hole in the floor." Kim said, making the black ranger give her what the Dino Thunder rangers recognised as his teacher look. "Don't look at me like that. That look might work on the kids you teach, but it doesn't work on me."

"Dr O, can we ask you something?" Conner asked, making him look at where his three male teammates were sat together.

"What's wrong?" He asked, looking at the tense looks on their faces.

"What's going on with you and Kira?" Trent asked, making Tommy's eyes widen. Jason looked at his former teammates who all looked shocked, except for Kim. He grabbed Trini's hand and nodded to the others, making them return his nod before standing up and moving away from the 4 Dino Thunder rangers.

"What do you mean?" Tommy asked, sitting down in front of them.

"Dr O, we know something's going on." Conner said, making him frown. "You two have been really close lately and you keep finding excuses to be alone together."

"We thought something was going on when we went back to the past. When Zeltrax and Zedd had her, you were ready to go to the Lunar Palace within minutes, and if it was any of us you'd have waited the whole 2 hours." Ethan added, making Tommy frown slightly.

"And then there was today." Trent said. "You managed to bring Kira back from a panic attack within seconds, and Conner had been trying to calm her down for 10 minutes."

"And then there was the way you were holding her before the ambulance arrived." Ethan said. Tommy looked down slightly and sighed, not knowing what to say to them.

"You two are dating, aren't you?" Conner asked, making Tommy look up again.

"You cannot tell anyone." He said, making them smile slightly.

"Dr O, we're not stupid. We know how much trouble you could get in." Ethan replied.

"Ok, we've been dating for a couple of months. The plan was always to tell you guys after graduation." He said, running a hand through his hair.

"You're dating your student?" Tommy sighed before turning to look at his former teammates, all except Kim and Jason looked shocked. "When were you going to tell us?" Zach asked.

"I wasn't." Tommy said, receiving a few glares. "Until a couple of days ago, I hadn't heard from any of you in years! And besides, we were trying to keep it to ourselves until after Kira graduated."

"Have you two… you know…" Trent started, making Tommy frown slightly.

"Have you had sex?" Conner asked, making Ethan and Trent blush and Tommy's eyes widen.

"Conner!" Ethan snapped, making Conner shrug his shoulders.

"Tommy!" Tommy turned around and stood up when he saw a familiar face walk into the hospital.

"Adam. Thanks for coming man." He said, walking over to Adam. They exchanged a quick hug as the rest of the group walked over.

"Thanks for calling. Although, if you wanted a catch up, you should have just said." He replied with a small smile. Tommy appreciated his attempt at lightening the mood.

"So, a lawyer huh? How'd that happen?" He asked, making Adam smile as he hugged the rest of the former rangers.

"Don't ask." He replied before looking at the 3 teens behind Tommy. "So, who are these guys?"

"This is Conner, Ethan and Trent." Tommy said, making the three wave. "Boys, this is Adam Park."

"Nice to meet you." Ethan said.

"You too." Adam replied with a smile. "Anyway, enough pleasantries. You said that you needed my help?"

"Yes. Kira, one of my students. Her father's been abusing her and we need to try and get her away from him." Tommy said, making Adam frown. "That's why we're here. She's been staying at mine for a few days and he cornered her outside Cyberspace tonight." Adam sighed as he heard the information.

"Tommy, why did you call me?" Adam asked. "Not that I don't mind the call, but any lawyer could handle this and you've probably got some good ones close by."

"Yeah, but we need someone we can trust." Tommy said, looking around to make sure there was no one close by them. "Kira's a ranger." Adam's eyes widened before he looked at the three teens stood behind Tommy, who all nodded, and then he looked at Tommy, taking in the black clothing before smirking slightly.

"In uniform again Tommy?" He asked, making Tommy sigh. "Ok, now I see why you called me."

"Dr Oliver?" They turned and saw a Doctor walking over to them. "I'm Dr Welton."

"How's Kira?" He asked.

"She's going to be alright." The doctor said, making them all breathe a sigh of relief. "She didn't break anything, and thankfully managed to avoid any major injuries. She's got a pretty bad concussion, and we would like to keep her in for a few hours just to monitor how she responds to the medication, but she should be able to leave tonight."

"Can I see her?" Tommy asked. The doctor nodded and gave him her room number before leaving. Tommy looked at the others and gave them small smiles. "You guys may as well go. Adam, come by the house tomorrow and we'll go over everything." They all nodded and left, Jason and Zach dragging the three reluctant Dino Thunder teens with them. Tommy followed the doctor down the corridor before walking into the room he pointed out, seeing Kira laying on the hospital bed. He tried not to wince at the sight of the forming bruises and bandages as he walked over to the bed and grabbed her hand, making her look at him.

"Tommy?" She asked, tears forming in her eyes.

"I'm here Kira. I'm right here." He whispered, kissing the back of her hand.

"My dad?" She asked, her eyes darting around the room.

"He's been arrested." He replied, making her eyes freeze slightly. "The police turned up at the same time as the ambulance and arrested him on the spot. Hayley thankfully has a camera covering the area where it happened and is going to send the footage over to them in the morning. He isn't going to get away with it. I promise."

"When can I leave?" She asked, looking at the IV in her arm with narrowed eyes.

"Soon. The Doctor's just want to see how well you respond to the medication." He said, looking down at their hands with a sigh. "Kira, I am so sorry."

"For what?" She asked, looking at him in shock.

"I said I'd keep you safe and I didn't. I let him hurt you." He said, still looking down. Kira took her free hand and put it under his chin, raising his head so that he was looking at her.

"Tommy, you have nothing to be sorry for." She said. "You didn't hurt me. He did. He is the one that should be sorry, not you. You did everything you could, and none of us thought that he would appear in the car park." Just as she finished, a knock at the door made them quickly move apart, Tommy dropping his hands and moving the chair away slightly. The door opened and a woman walked in, smiling slightly as she held up a badge.

"Miss Ford, I'm Detective Marks. Can I talk to you for a moment?" The woman asked as she walked into the room. Kira nodded, looking over to Tommy for a moment for support. "And you are?"

"Dr Thomas Oliver." He replied, standing up and shaking her hand. "I'm one of Kira's teachers. I was one of the guys that got her dad away from her."

"Ah, you were with her when the ambulance turned up?" She asked, making Tommy nod as he sat back down. She looked at Kira and gave her a warming and supportive smile. "I am sorry to ask you this Kira, but are you up to giving me a statement?" Kira's eyes widened slightly and she looked at Tommy, her head shaking frantically.

"Can she come to the station tomorrow to give her statement?" Tommy asked, making Detective Marks nod.

"Of course. Here's my card. Are you able to come by the station tomorrow? Around 12?" She asked, handing her card to Kira who nodded. "I will need you to provide a statement as well Dr Oliver."

"I already gave a statement to one of the officers on the scene." He said. Marks frowned slightly, looking down at her notes before looking up again.

"I guess that was missed off my notes, I'll chase that up and call you if I need any more details. See you tomorrow, Kira." She left the room and Tommy sighed as he looked at Kira.

"Are you going to be alright?" He asked, holding onto her hand again.

"I don't know." She muttered. "I guess I have to be."

"Kira, no matter what happens, I'm here." He said, making her smile. "And if something bad happens, I have an army of former rangers on speed dial." She laughed, glad for his attempt to lighten the mood.

"Thanks Tommy. I don't know what I would do without you right now." She said, giving him a smile.

Xxx

The next morning, Tommy woke up to his alarm going off. He quickly shut it off before looking at Kira to make sure it hadn't woken her up as well. With the stress of the previous evening, Tommy had a feeling she would sleep for a while and he couldn't blame her. He gently kissed her forehead before getting dressed and heading downstairs. He had just poured himself a cup of coffee when there was a knock at the door. He answered it and smiled slightly when he saw Adam stood on the porch.

"Hey, come in." He said, holding the door open for the former Black and Green ranger.

"Hey. How is she?" He asked, following Tommy into the kitchen and accepting the coffee that was offered.

"She's still asleep." Tommy replied with a slight sigh as they both sat at the kitchen table. "She's been through a lot, and I think it's going to take a while for her to get back to how she used to be."

"That's understandable." Adam replied before smirking a little. "So, how long have you two been together?" Tommy froze with his mug halfway to his mouth, making Adam laugh. "Chill dude. Jason told me. Besides, the others all heard you talking to your team about it last night."

"2 months." He replied with a smile.

"I'm happy for you. It's about time you dated a girl that wasn't a pink ranger." Adam laughed before frowning. "I'm sorry to do this mate, but I think we have some talking we need to do."

"I know. You need to know everything so you can help us." Tommy said with a sigh.

Almost an hour later, Adam was sat staring at Tommy with his mouth gaping open, the pen and pad he had pulled out of his bag laying forgotten on the table in front of him as he listened to Tommy explaining what had happened to Kira and how they had been struggling to prove it before her dad attacked her the night before.

"Ok, let me see if I've got this straight." Adam said with a frown. "You found out that Kira was being abused after questioning her about bruises while her dad was out of town, and she confessed to you and gave Hayley a copy of a recording she had made when her dad attacked her, but you then spent 2 weeks in the past because of ranger stuff and all of the injuries Kira had received from her dad had mostly healed, which meant that you couldn't contact the police because the timeline of the injuries occurring and healing didn't match. You asked Kira to move in here, not because you are together but to keep her away from her dad while you tried to make a plan. She then got injured during a ranger fight which you could have claimed to be caused by her father if the injuries matched up with the injuries she should have had if you hadn't gone to the past. Then her dad got back into town and came here looking for her because someone told him you teach her martial arts on a Saturday. He barged in looking for her, which you have footage of because you have a Command Centre under your house and installed cameras because of it, and then he attacked her outside the cyberspace, which Hayley has on her CCTV and caused her to go to hospital last night." Adam felt a headache coming on as he tried to process the information he had been given as he spoke.

"Yeah, that sounds about right." Tommy replied.

"Damn. I see why you called me." He said, scratching his head. "It's not like you can tell a normal lawyer any of that."

"Exactly. Kira needs to go to the station today to give her statement, and we need to figure out what we can say without risking anyone finding out about the rangers or our relationship." Tommy said, leaning back in his chair.

"They're going to ask why you didn't come forward sooner." Adam muttered, picking up his pen again and scribbling on the paper. "Right, obviously we're going to have to pretend like you never went to the past, which means that you have known about Kira's dad for almost a week. You can claim that you saw bruises on Kira during your martial arts lesson and she confessed after questioning her after the lesson ended."

"And the injuries?" They both jumped and looked up to see Kira leaning against the door frame, still dressed in the grey joggers and baggy yellow top she wore to bed. "I should have a broken rib."

"Kira, are you alright?" Tommy asked jumping up to make sure she was alright.

"I'm fine." She said with a slight smile as she walked over to them and sat down. "Just a bit sore."

"Kira, your dad broke your rib?" Adam asked, frowning slightly.

"I mean, I never got checked out at the hospital, but Alpha had to scan me in the past and he said I broke 2 ribs. He healed them there and then." She said, making Adam frown.

"We think they were badly bruised before we went back in time, and the fighting then fully broke them." Tommy clarified as Adam frowned slightly.

"Tommy, do you have a device similar to the one Alpha had? One for checking injuries?" He asked, Tommy nodded and they all walked down into the lab, Adam looking around in awe as Tommy got the device and Kira jumped up to sit on the medical bed they had in the far corner. "Ok. Let's see what injuries you have at the minute." Tommy motioned for Kira to lay down and he scanned her with the device, before moving to the computer to look at the read out that it gave him.

"Well, you've got a lot of cuts and bruises, a concussion like the doctor said, and 2 bruised ribs. Looks like the bruises are under a week old." Tommy said, turning around as Kira sat up again.

"Can we claim that they were caused by my dad before?" She asked, looking at Adam who was jotting notes down again.

"Definitely." He replied, looking at her with a small smile. "It means that we don't have to worry about the timeline issue."

"Ok, so we're good with the whole going back to the past thing. What do I say if someone questions why I asked her to move in?" Tommy asked, making Adam smile slightly.

"Tell the truth." He said before frowning at the looks Kira and Tommy gave him. "Alright, most of the truth. You say that you had gotten to know Kira from teaching her at school and teaching her martial arts and that she confessed to you what her dad had been doing. You decided to ask her to stay with you to keep her safe while you gathered enough evidence to go to the police."

"That sounds reasonable." Kira said before groaning when she heard an alarm go off, which made Adam jump slightly. "What now?"

"Tyrannodrones in the park." Tommy said, looking at the screen in front of him.

"Alone? No big monster? No Elsa or Zeltrax?" Kira asked with a frown.

"No. Just Tyrannodrones." Tommy replied, standing up. "Shall we?"

"I guess." Kira muttered with a sigh as she jumped up, wincing slightly at the pain in her head, which Adam and Tommy spotted.

"Actually, you stay here." Tommy said, making her frown. "You're injured, and fighting is just going to worsen those injuries. Get the others to meet me there and you can monitor us from here."

"But-" She started to argue.

"Kira, for once, please don't argue." He said, giving her a quick hug. "Otherwise I'll have to call Hayley and get her to keep you here."

"Fine." She muttered, pulling away. Tommy smirked and looked at Adam as Kira sat at the computer and signalled the other rangers.

"Keep an eye on her for me." He said, making Adam nod with a small smile. They both knew that Tommy meant for Adam to make sure she didn't try to follow him and fight in her state. Tommy flicked his wrist, making his bracelet transform into his morpher, reminding Adam of their Turbo morphers.

"Dino Thunder! Power up!"
