Back in time
Chapter 28
Tommy walked up the stairs into his office, finally leaving the lab. Conner had woken up and Hayley made sure he wasn't too badly hurt before letting him leave. Tommy decided to make the most of the quiet and catch up on some work before the other rangers came over later. He walked into the kitchen to get a coffee and saw Kira sat at the table, her laptop in front of her.
"Hey, are you alright?" He asked, standing behind her and bending to rest his head on top of hers as he wrapped his arms around her.
"Yeah, just wanted to get some ideas down." She said, making him notice the document she was writing in called 'song ideas'. "How are you? Get your work done?"
"Mostly. I got to Conner's homework and thought I'd take a break." He said with a laugh as he moved away and filled his mug with coffee. He sat down opposite Kira and saw how red and tired her eyes looked. "How are you feeling after giving your statement earlier?"
"Alright I guess." She said, closing the laptop and looking at him. "It was hard, but I'm glad it's out the way now. I can go back to worrying about school work and Mesagog." She laughed slightly. "I get to stay here as well. Adam argued that since I'm 18, I won't get placed in a permanent home and there's a big possibility I would be moved out of Reefside just before exams, which would mean I risk not graduating."
"That's good. I get to keep you where I can protect you." He said with a smile, grabbing her hand and placing a small kiss on her knuckles.
"You know, you never did explain how the others found out about us." She laughed, making him smile.
"They actually figured it out on their own. Said they were suspicious that we were finding excuses to be alone together, and then how I reacted last night confirmed it to them." He laughed, making Kira frown slightly.
"Guess we weren't as careful as we thought." She laughed, looking up as she heard the door open.
"Dr O? Kira?" They heard Conner call.
"Kitchen!" Tommy called back. The 3 other Dino Thunder rangers walked in, smirking at the sight of Kira and Tommy holding hands.
"I thought I said we didn't want to see it?" Ethan commented, making Kira throw him a glare as Tommy laughed, standing up and letting go of Kira's hand to grab them some drinks.
"How are you feeling Conner?" She asked, ignoring Ethan as they all sat around the table.
"Sore." He said with a pointed look at Ethan, who blushed in response. "But Hayley said I didn't have a concussion so we're all good."
"Guess your head's not as hard as we all thought." Kira laughed. "So, how long have you idiots known about us?"
"A while." Ethan said with a smirk. "We joked about it before we went back in time, but that really confirmed it to us."
"Oh, and Dr O?" Trent looked at Tommy as he sat back down, pushing the drinks to the boys. "Next time you're hiding in Kira's room, you may want to make sure your glasses aren't on the bedside table." Tommy and Kira blushed as the others laughed.
"Damn. I forgot about them." He mumbled. Before anyone could say anything else, their morphers all beeped, making them share looks and run down to the lab.
"Zeltrax and Elsa in the forest." Conner said, looking at the computer.
"I wondered when he was going to show up again." Tommy said, giving Kira a look. "You alright to join us? I think we're going to need you."
"Yeah. Let's do it." They quickly morphed and headed out to the forest, running into the clearing to see Zeltrax and Elsa. They waited for a moment, watching the two arguing.
"It's not my fault you failed, Zeltrax!" Elsa snapped, making the rangers share looks. "You had one job. Go to the past and kill Tommy Oliver, and you can't even do that right!"
"You didn't tell me that the device would bring the Rangers back too!" Zeltrax yelled back.
"You obviously let them get too close! I don't know why Mesagog doesn't strip you for parts already." Elsa hissed. "And now I have to clean up your mess! You're lucky the girl was easy to get to!"
"You would never know about her if it wasn't for me!" Zeltrax snapped. Kira sighed, fed up with their arguing and decide to make their presence known.
"I'm sorry, are we interrupting?" Kira asked, making the two jump into fighting stances and look over at the 5 rangers. "Only we came expecting you to want to fight us, not each other."
"Oh, let them fight. It's more entertaining than fighting them ourselves." Ethan commented, leaning against a tree.
"Although it is nice to know that going to the past was your idea Elsa." Conner said, smirking behind his helmet. "What, were you too scared to do it yourself? You had to get Zeltrax to go instead?"
"Enough! Leave now, Rangers!" Elsa hissed.
"You know what Elsa…" Kira started, stepping forward slightly. "I have a lot more to worry about right now than whatever it is you're planning, but I do have a lot of anger to take out, so I will gladly use you as a punching bag if you don't go back to your 'master'." Tommy smirked slightly and crossed his arms, enjoying the fact that Kira's signature 'yellow ranger attitude' was directed at the two henchmen and not him.
"I am tired of this." Elsa snapped, looking at Zeltrax. "Zeltrax! You defeat the rangers, or I will personally melt you down for spare parts!" She yelled before jumping into a Invisiportal.
"Well, I don't think she likes you very much." Tommy commented, making Zeltrax turn to look at him.
"You are not worth my time, Rangers." He snapped before disappearing into another portal.
"Since when did we start breaking up fights between them?" Trent asked, making them shrug before they all demorphed.
"Don't knock it. I'm still sore from this morning! If they both stay away for the rest of the day, then I'll be happy." Conner said with a slight laugh as they started walking back towards the entrance to the lab. Kira suddenly stopped, making the guys look at her, seeing the deep frown on her face. "Kira?" She didn't reply, only looked back towards the clearing they had just left. Conner and Tommy shared a worried look before Tommy walked over and put a hand on her shoulder, making her look at him.
"Kira? What's wrong?" He asked, her worried expression making him anxious.
"I've just realised something." She said, her voice small. "Elsa said a girl was easy to get to."
"So?" Trent asked, not following his teammates train of thought.
"Zeltrax said that Elsa only knew about this girl because of him." They shared looks, still not sure what Kira was hinting at. "I think they've kidnapped someone. And if it's someone that Zeltrax told Elsa about…."
"The original Rangers." Ethan said, finally realising where she was going. "You think she kidnapped Trini or Kim?"
"Only one way to find out." Tommy said as they ran the rest of the way to the lab. They opened the brick wall and saw Jason stood by the monitors, waiting for them.
"Hey. We were wondering when you were going to show up." He said before taking in their worried expressions as Tommy hurried to the computer. "Are you guys alright?"
"Where are Trini and Kim?" Tommy asked, making his frown deepen.
"Trini's upstairs. I haven't seen Kim yet." He said, watching the Dino Thunder team with worry.
"Conner, check on Trini." Tommy said, making Conner use his Tyranno speed to check on the former yellow ranger. "Kira…"
"Already calling Kim's phone." She said, Tommy's phone already pressed to her ear.
"Trini's here. Adam and Zach are with her." Conner said as he came back into the lab. "Ethan, check the cameras around town for signs of Kim." Ethan nodded and went to the other desk chair, getting the cameras up. "Dr O, are you checking for portal signals?" He received only a nod in response.
"Kim's not picking up." Kira said, dialling the number again.
"Guys, what is going on?" Jason asked, still worried.
"Elsa was talking about getting a girl that Zeltrax told her about. We guessed she was talking about Trini or Kim, since Zeltrax met them in the past and probably assumed they'd make a good hostage." Trent said, making Jason's eyes widen slightly.
"And since Trini is here….." He trailed off, not wanting to finish his sentence.
"Got her!" Ethan called, making them all look at the screen, where they could see Kim walk out of the hotel and around the corner, only to be grabbed by Tyrannodrones and Elsa. She tried to put up a fight, but there were too many Tyrannodrones and they managed to grab her and jump through a portal with her.
"They've got Kim." Tommy said, sharing a worried look with his team.
