Chapter 7
Jasmin hoped that hiding in her bed would save her from all the attention from her stunt on the broom but that ended up not being the case.
It was morning and Jasmin stood next to Parvati outside the bathroom.
"Hurry up in there!" Parvati yelled at the door.
Jasmin had learned rather quickly that Lavender had a habit of hogging the bathroom in the morning with both long showers and hair routines. If you needed to use the loo it was for the best to wake up before her.
"Can you believe her?" Parvati asked Jasmin.
"Yeah, this is not the first time. Jasmin responded.
"Hey I wanted to ask you yesterday but you just disappeared"
"Oh sorry, I was just very tired"
"It is alright, it must have been quite the day. What did the professor say?"
Jasmin hoped this question would not come up, she had been told to keep it secret, and she noticed that Hermione had taken interest in the question.
"She said I was irresponsible and could have killed myself and that if I do something stupid again... let's just say I don't want to find out."
"Oh, I see.." Pavati responded "At least you did not get expelled"
Jasmin's face fell "I thought I was, she took me halfway across the castle not saying one word..."
"But it turned out alright didn't it?" Some detention with her isn't going to be that bad." Parvati said with a slightly forced smile.
"Jasmin Potter doesn't get detentions," Hermione said from her bed, still sounding as unimpressed as the day before.
"What really!?" Parvat exclaimed just as Lavender opened the bathroom door.
"What's happening?" Lavender asked.
"Jasmin did not get detention. Now! out of my way," Pavati said as she hurried inside and closed the door behind her.
"Excuse you" Lavender exclaimed and then looked towards Jasmin "You didn't get any detention? How did you manage that?"
Jasmin shrugged. "Professor McGonagall had other ideas."
"What took you so long? I am starving!"
"And good morning to you too Ron" Jasmin replied to Ron. She saw a very ruffled-looking Neville.
"Hey, Neville are you alright?"
"Wha..? Yes, I forgot the password so I had to sleep outside the portrait."
"Oh no, I am sorry Neville" Jasmin had noticed how forgetful Neville could be, she also saw his roommates sniggering behind him.
"Anyways let's go before we starve!" Ron complained and they headed out. All the first-year boys were with Ron and Dean asked.
"Hey, what happened yesterday after McGonagal dragged you away? I think Ron here knows something but he refuses to say."
"She was very cross with me but we had a talk and I am not expelled," Jasmin said and she could see how Ron strained not to tell the full story.
"You will have to teach me how you did it," Dean said.
When the group arrived some heads looked in their direction or more precisely, they were looking at Jasmin. Either she was still whispered about because of her scar or her exploits had gone out to the rumour mill.
After she had sat down at the Gryffindor table a bunch of second and third-years started to ask how she had survived the stern professor. Jasmin ended up eating half a sandwich before she excused herself and left the table.
She once again found an empty room and tried to calm herself, why did she draw so much attention? She asked herself. When she had gotten herself under control she made her way to her first class. She meet Ron outside the classroom being in a discussion with Seamus and Dean.
"Oi, where did you go?" Ron asked
"I, ehm... I forgot my textbook so had to get it.
"Oh," Ron answered and then vent back to his discussion with the boys.
Lunch and dinner became the same thing, with looks and a lot of questions, she ended up not having any lunch and left dinner having only had a sausage. She was hungry but all that attention did make her way too uncomfortable so she had to leave.
As she left her hiding place being calm enough to make it to the common room she saw the last person she wanted to see.
"If it isn't Jasmin Potter, all alone. Don't your friend like you anymore?"
It was Malfoy flanked by his ever-present Crabbe and Goile.
Jasmin did not have any response, she did feel fear creeping over, not sure if she was afraid that she wouldn't have any friends or that she was confronted by three boys all bigger than her, two of them way bigger.
Malfoy walked up to her. "What no witty retorts, or do you know your betters?
Jasmin was saved from answering when someone called her name.
"Potter!" A Ravenclaw prefect with long flowing blond hair stood looking at her. "Come with me, the professor is waiting"
Jasmin looked back at Malfoy who had a very smug expression. He said something to his guards as they walked away, something about 'in trouble'.
Jasmin looked back at the prefect and walked up to her. She was happy that Malfoy was gone but she could feel dread, what had she done now? Had Professor McGonagall changed her mind?
"You alright there?" The Ravenclaw girl asked, she had a friendly smile.
"Ehm.. yes of course. The professor wanted to see me?"
"Oh no, that was just a little white lie."
"What do you mean?" Jasmin asked confused.
"You a lone Gryffindor stood with 3 Slytherins, it did not look like it was a pleasant discussion, so I thought I would get you away. Was I wrong?"
"N...no" Jasmin did not meet the Ravenclaw's eyes.
"Anything you want to report?"
Jasmin only shook her head.
"If you are sure, otherwise you should talk to your head of house. It is what they are there for."
"No need, we might not be friends but there is nothing to report."
"I am doing my rounds, I will go towards the Gryffindor tower if you are going to your common room."
"I thought the locations were secret," Jasmin said still not meeting her eyes.
"Yes they are, but I am rather sure the Gryffindor rooms are in the Gryffindor tower. Anyways my name is Penelope Clearwater nice to meet you." Penelope held up a hand, Jasmin did tense up a bit, she hoped Penelope would notice. She did not want to be rude so she looked the Ravenclaw in her eyes.
"Nice to meet you, I am Jasmin Potter but I have a feeling you already know." Jasmin gave a small unsure smile.
"What gave you that idea?" Penelope asked smiling.
Jasmin walked and talked with Penelope until they were close to the tower.
"Time for us to split ways, remember what I said, if anyone causes you trouble speak to a teacher or a prefect. Bye now."
Jasmin said her goodbye and made her way to the common room, she climbed into the portrait hole and saw Ron playing wizard chess with the first-year boys, she was not surprised that he was winning.
He had his back to her so she climbed up the stairs to her dorm room. It was empty so she laid down on top of her bed and tried to relax.
Sometime later Hermione came in holding several books in her hands.
"Hello Hermione"
"Hi, I can't believe how noisy they are in the common room, made it impossible to study."
"I will not disturb you then if you want to study in peace, I came here for the quiet too." Jasmin heard Hermione nod.
She had tried to befriend Hermione, she had been very bossy and annoying at the start but she did not really hang out with anybody. Jasmin knew how it was to be alone. She felt all her progress had been for nothing after the broom incident. She was not sure if Hermione was more annoyed that she broke the rules or that she wasn't punished.
Sometime later Levander came into the room, she picked something up from her trunk when she turned around to leave she saw Jasmin.
"Hey, there you are! Where have you been? You just disappeared at dinner." She asked.
"Well," Jasmin paused for a second trying to figure out something. "I was in the library"
"Oh, I see. I will go back before Pavati think I have gone to bed."
When Lavender was gone Jasmin heard Hermione's voice. "Funny, I did not see you in the library"
Hermione's voice was very suspicious, Jasmin internally kicked herself, of course, Hermione would be in the library, and she studies all the time.
This had not been the best of days. She felt a rumbling in her stomach, she with exception of the train journey and great feast had not eaten huge piles of food during her time at Hogwarts but she had eaten herself unhungry. Today she had had half a sandwich and a sausage. She had become used to not being hungry all the time.
The next couple of days did not fare much better, as Jasmin fled from the attention she did not eat a lot and as she did not satisfy her housemate's questions she had been kept in the limelight.
This also had the side effect that she spent most of her free time away from everyone, she talked some with Ron during class when it was possible.
He had also inquired where she had been, Jasmin couldn't think of anything better and had said the library. Ron had gotten a pained expression from this.
"Watch yourself or you will turn out like Granger"
The weekend arrived and with it came some calm, not only as there were no classes but her broom incident was mostly forgotten.
