"I think I'm gay."
"Oh."
That's all I could say, I can't really say what I was thinking in that moment.
"Um, how'd you like come to think that?" Quinn asked.
Brittany shrugged, "I just think some girls are cute."
Quinn nodded, I still didn't know what to say.
Brittany looked at her hands nervously, "Uh well if it makes you guys uncomfortable-"
"No." I said quickly, "No it doesn't, really."
"Yeah, I mean my parents are weird about that stuff, but I'm cool with it." Quinn said soon after.
Brittany smiled, "Oh okay, cool."
I wanted to let her know I felt as if I was gay too, but I couldn't bring myself to do it.
Her confession made me think back to when she told me she had a crush, so maybe it was a girl, or still is?
"So, that night when you told me you liked someone.."
"It's a girl, yeah."
"Oh my god, who?" Quinn asked.
Brittany blushed, "Uh, just someone from class, doesn't matter, she would probably never like me back anyway." She said avoiding eye contact with the both of them. "Enough about me though, aren't we here to shop?"
Quinn looked like she wanted to talk more but decided against it, and smiled, "Yeah, let's go."
QUINN'S POV
I'm no longer in any doubt that something unhealthy is going on in their relationship.
We always talk about abusive relationships in high school, and how they end.
I couldn't live with myself knowing that I could have helped Santana and didn't.
I want to tell someone, but nothing will be done unless Santana admits herself that Brittany is doing something to her.
And any chance of that happening is slim, but still possible.
"You're thinking too loud."
I laughed softly, "Sorry."
"It's all right, what's on your mind?" Puck asked.
Puck and I dated freshmen year, he was a good boyfriend and things were great at the start, but eventually the honeymoon phase went away and we got bored with one another so we ended it that summer.
Puck is someone I'd consider a good friend, we tell each other everything. This thing with Brittany and Santana isn't something I could just tell him.
Though he wasn't as close to them as I used to be, I knew he would immediately find Brittany and beat the hell out of her, if there's one thing he doesn't like it's abusers.
"Can I ask you a personal question?"
He sat up straight, "Yeah of course."
"I remember you telling me about how your dad abused your mom, I just wanted to know, when did she finally tell someone?"
"Oh that kind of personal."
"If it's too much I totally understand."
"No, it's fine. I think when I was about 12 or 13 she called the cops on him after he threatened to hit me. For years she let him use her as a punching bag, all it took was for him to decide it was my turn, then she got help."
"Would you say she's better now?"
He shrugged, "She has her days I guess, but she goes to therapy. Honestly though, I don't think she'll ever be fully okay and that sucks to think about but it's reality, she's been abused by him since before I was born."
That can't happen to Santana, what if I let this go and Brittany continued abusing her for years and I did nothing to stop it.
I don't even know how extreme the situation is, if it's bad though, I would hate myself for not helping.
"Why do you ask? Something going on? Hey if Russell is doing something-"
"No, no don't worry Puck. I mean my dad has issues but he'd never hurt me or my mom." I smiled softly and patted his arm. "I was just curious."
He nodded, "Okay. If you need to tell me anything though, you know I'm here."
"I know, thanks Puck."
NO ONE'S POV
Santana waited by Brittany's locker after school.
She saw Quinn walk by and they made eye contact briefly before Santana looked away quickly.
Brittany walked over to Santana and kissed her cheek. "Hey babe."
"Hey."
She took Santana's hand as they headed outside, "So I was thinking we should go to a party tonight."
Santana wasn't in the mood to go to a party, she knew how possessive Brittany could be when they went out in public.
Despite it, she knew she'd have to say yes, "Okay."
"Has Quinn bothered you any?"
"No." She lied, Quinn tried to talk to her that morning but she ignored her.
"Okay."
When they reached the car Brittany opened the door for Santana.
"Hey about yesterday, I was just being protective because I love you, you understand that right?" She said as the girl got in the car.
Santana didn't look at her, she only nodded.
"Alright." Brittany shut the door and got in the drivers seat.
She started up the car and pulled out of the parking lot.
They drove in silence.
Santana stared out the window.
After a while Brittany spoke up, "I stopped being friends with Rachel."
"What?" Santana was taken out of her daydream and looked at Brittany.
"Yeah, after she tried to kiss me I told her we couldn't be friends."
"Oh." Santana looked back out the window, "That's good."
"Mhm." Brittany pulled up to Santana's house.
"Thanks." Santana said before placing her hand on the door handle but was stopped by Brittany.
She looked at her, "Yeah?"
Brittany leaned in and kissed her softly, she put her hand on the back of her head to deepen the kiss.
After a few seconds she pulled back, "I love you."
"I love you too." Santana replied, "See you tomorrow."
"Yeah."
Santana got out of the car and headed to her house, she unlocked the door and went inside.
"Hey Sanny." Her youngest brother Mario said.
"Hey Rio, where are Santiago and Diego?"
"In the basement."
"And left you all alone up here, typical." Santana said rolling her eyes.
The little boy fixed his glasses, "I'm alright." He said with a toothy grin, "Almost a big boy now!"
"Yeah, you are." She smiled and rubbed the top of his head. "What were you doing?"
"Playing monopoly, but I'm not sure I'm doing it right."
"Here, I'll play with you." She put her backpack on the couch and sat with the boy at the table.
"When can I see Britt Britt again?"
Santana smiled softly at him, her brothers absolutely adored Brittany.
That was, of course, because they didn't know the real her.
When Brittany was around her family it was like she was her old self again.
They liked just about everything about her, especially her mom.
Brittany was smart, loyal, and respectable, all things her mom wanted in someone she was to date.
She made a remarkable impression, she charmed her way through her family.
"Uh soon." She didn't want to stay on the topic too long, "Now hand me those cards.
He picked up the stack and handed it to her, "She hasn't come by in a while."
"She's been busy hermano, she'll come by when she has time."
"Hmm okay." He looked through the silver figurines, "I wanna be the shoe."
"Come on guys we're gonna be late!" Quinn exclaimed.
Brittany and Santana pulled away from one another, they were supposed to be getting dressed but got distracted.
"We're coming jeez!" Santana yelled.
The girls were making out, something that became a regular thing.
After Brittany came out, she admitted to Santana that she liked her and Santana let her know she liked her back.
At first neither one of them did anything about it, they just mildly flirted with one another.
One day Brittany got the courage to ask Santana out on a date.
She happily agreed.
The date was perfect to both of them, they went out to eat at a fancy restaurant a few miles outsids of Lima so they wouldn't be recognized.
That night they made out in Brittany's car, and from then on they made it a regular thing.
They'd hookup at school during lunch, when Quinn wasn't around, and sometimes Brittany would sneak in Santana's window.
They didn't go on any other dates at the time. Neither of them wanted to be official so soon, plus the sneaking around was fun.
Brittany's face was red as she picked up her bag, "Think she knows?"
"Nah." Santana said smiling, "She's totally clueless."
Only Quinn wasn't, she knew what they were doing, but she didn't tell them that.
The girls ran downstairs to see an impatient looking Quinn.
"We didn't spend 300 dollars on tickets to be late now let's go."
Quinn walked inside her house and saw her mother passed out on the couch.
Judging by the bottle of vodka on the table, she could assume why.
She placed her keys on the counter before walking over to her mom and kissing her on the head.
She heard her puppy Benny run in the room.
He barked happily at her, wagging his tail.
She smiled and picked him up, "Hey buddy, you miss me?"
He barked again, this time awakening her mom.
The older Fabray sat up tiredly, "Hey Quinny."
"Hey mom." She set Benny down and looked at her, "How was you day?"
"The usual." She stood up and stretched her arms, "Yours?"
"It was okay."
"That's good, I'm gonna get started on dinner." She kissed her head and headed into the kitchen.
Mrs. Fabray wasn't particularly a bad mom, but she wasn't a great one either.
She drank quite a bit, sometimes it would get so bad that Quinn has to help her do basic things like get to bed or the bathroom because she can barely move.
Quinn never knew why she started drinking, it wasn't like her dad wasn't home a lot because he was, and their parents relationship was relatively happy.
He wasn't an ass like people would assume just because he was a businessman.
She was a housewife though, Quinn just thought she needed something to get through the day.
Slowly her drinking got worse and worse, her dad notices but doesn't say anything.
It had been going on since she was in middle school, Brittany knew about it but when they met Santana she never really mentioned it anymore.
It wasn't that she didn't trust Santana, she just didn't want to be pitied or anything of the sort.
Quinn heard Benny pawing at the door, "Need to go out bud?"
She went over and opened the door for him, and he ran out.
She closed the door and headed towards her stairs before hearing a crash in the kitchen.
Quinn ran in and saw her mom dropped a jar of peppers. "Oh mom,"
She went over to her and saw a gash on her hand.
She led her away from the glass and grabbed a towel and wrapped it around her hand. "You okay?"
She nodded, "Yeah, I'm sorry Quinny."
"It's okay mom, just hang on." She jogged to the bathroom to grab a bandage from the first aid kit.
She ran back in the kitchen and removed the towel, "Here let's wash the blood off."
She led them to the sink and she turned it on, after she cleaned the wound she wrapped her moms hand in the bandage.
"Don't worry about dinner, I can cook tonight."
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah, get some sleep."
"Thank you Quinny, I don't know what I did to deserve a daughter like you."
Quinn kissed her head, "It's just in my genes."
The older woman went back into the living room, and Quinn went over to open the door for Benny.
