Akira the Lucario, Ryo the Riolu, and other members of the knight's guild lined up to receive instruction from guild master Caesar the Gallade. Caesar was a war veteran and an ex General who was appointed by Lord Mewtwo, the king of Arcadius, to be the head of the knight's guild, which goal was to train talented pokemon to be Arcadius' elite soldiers. Daisuke, the father of Akira and Ryo, enrolled his sons to the knight's guild with hopes that his sons would also become a skilful dragon slayer like him. Akira, Daisuke's first son, was already an accomplished knight at the age of fifteen. He had done many S rank missions and nobody had ever beaten him in a fight. This was the result of Akira's intense training by his father since he was just a small Riolu. Despite his expertise, Akira remained modest and not arrogant. Therefore, many Pokemon admired and respected him. Akira's little brother, Ryo the Riolu, was a little bit strange however. Unlike the typical fighting type pokemon, Ryo despised fighting, which was rather ironic for a fighting type pokemon. Furthermore, he preferred to resolve problems by means of intellect rather than brute force. Many fighting type pokemon, including his father, thought that Ryo was some sort of an anomaly as Ryo behaved more like a psychic type pokemon than a fighting type pokemon. From the beginning, it was apparent that Ryo resented being enrolled to the knight's guild. Nevertheless, he performed well in the knight's guild thanks to his cleverness.

"Right. Today, we are going to have sparring sessions." Announced the guild master.

"Great! can't wait to beat up someone to a pulp. I have been looking forward to this" Said Brendan the Blaziken.

"Today I'm going to try something a little different. You all are going to have double battles!" said the Gallade.

"But sir, there are 17 of us." Said Akira.

"I know Akira. That is why you are not participating today. Your fighting skill is already too good. Being teamed up with you would be an unfair advantage." Said guild master Caesar.

"Aha! My time to shine! Now that Akira is out of the way, I'm now the best fighter." Said Renard the Jolteon.

"Just shut your mouth and prove yourself" said Brendan the Blaziken.

"You talk as much as I do you big chicken." Said Renard.

"Silence!" said guild master Caesar.

"As you may have expected, I'm going to do the pairing. Ryo, you are paired with Renard. You two are going to fight Zaheer and William in the first session." Said guild master Caesar. Zaheer was a Sandslash while William was a Dewott.

"Sir, why are you pairing me with that weakling?" asked Renard.

"To teach you how to protect someone weaker in a battle. The same goes for you Zaheer." Said guild master Caesar.

Before the sparring session began, Renard whispered to Ryo.

"So here is the plan. I'm going to do all the fighting while you stay out of the way. Just stand there looking small and weak. Your feebleness will only make me look cooler and stronger. Oh, how I love having an opportunity to show off." Said Renard to Ryo.

"Fine. Just do all the fighting I won't care." said Ryo. As Renard was talking, Ryo was already thinking about a strategy to defeat Zaheer and William.

Okay, so we have a Sandslash and a Dewott in the opposing team. Zaheer will probably engage Renard due to type advantage. This means William will try to attack me as Renard is occupied with Zaheer. Here is the problem. Zaheer, being a ground type, is completely immune to Renard's attacks while my physical strength is not enough to inflict a significant damage on Zaheer. There is no way we can take Zaheer down. Hmmm, what to do… what to do…Wait, I know! This strategy might work…

"The rule is the same. The first one to wound the opponent with a weapon or KO the opponent with moves wins the battle. Get ready… and BEGIN!" said the Gallade.

Without much thinking, Renard used agility to increase his speed. Overwhelming the opponents with blinding speed had become a signature tactic of the Jolteon.

"Your tactic wont work on me this time Renard!" said Zaheer the Sandslash as he used dig to attack the Jolteon. The Sandslash vanished, leaving the Dewott unprotected.

"Ha! First blood!" shouted the Jolteon as he charged at the Dewott with an electrified sabre. Strangely, the Dewott stayed put.

"Renard, no! It is a trap!" said Ryo.

Just as the attack about to land on the Dewott, Zaheer emerged from the ground, almost hitting the Jolteon with a super effective dig.

"Using the water type as a bait I see… Smart. But your brain is insignificant to my speed!" Taunted the Jolteon as he avoided the dig attack. Zaheer then attacked the Jolteon with Crush Claw and Fury swipes to no avail. Renard dodged all of the attacks.

My attacks won't land unless there is an opening. But how? Zaheer thought. Suddenly Zaheer remembered something from the battle strategy books that he read in his past time. It was written in the book:

'In every attack, there is an opening'

The Sandslash then stopped attacking and he started to taunt the Jolteon.

"Go ahead! Attack me! Your pitiful sabre won't be able to inflict even a single scratch on me because you are weak! You are all speed and all talk with no physical strength!" said the Sandslash.

"Watch tour tongue Sandslash!" Said the Jolteon as he attacked the Sandslash with his sabre.

"Renard! No!" shouted Ryo. But Renard was not listening this time. He charged at the Sandslash head first. To his surprise, Sandslash used the move mud slap and it was a critical hit. Renard's accuracy was lowered.

"Argh! My eyes!" cried the Jolteon.

"I learned this move from my dad!" Said the Sandslash. Zaheer then pinned Renard down, pulled out his sword and swung it to land a finishing blow. Unexpectedly, the Jolteon caught the sword with his hands.

"Wow, I must say I'm quite impressed Renard. You have good reflexes. However, your loss is inevitable!" said the Sandslash.

"William, don't just stand there! Finish the Riolu while I finish the Jolteon!" commanded the Sandslash.

"…Right" said William. The Dewott pulled out his sword and started charging towards the Riolu. Instead of fighting the Dewott, the Riolu started to run away.

"Can't catch me!" said the Riolu. As Renard was pinned down by the Sandsalsh, the Dewott and Riolu started running around the battle arena. Guild master Caesar face palmed.

"What are you doing Ryo?! This is a sparring session, not a game of tag!" shouted the Gallade.

"Hey! Quit running around! You are really starting to make me angry!" said William.

Sigh…Father is not going to be happy when he hears about this…. Akira thought.

"William! If you can't reach him, use ranged attacks like water gun, bubble beam, or whatever just finish him you buffoon!" said the angry Sandslash. William then attacked Ryo with water pulse in a rage.

Just as planned. Ryo thought.

Ryo was quick enough to dodge the water pulse. It was at this moment that William realized that he was standing in the direction of the Sandsalsh, but it was too late. The water pulse missed the target, an it hit the Sandslah instead.

"URGH! AAARGH! So Wet! So PAINFUL! William, you IMBECILE!" cried the Sandslash in pain. Renard did not waste this opportunity and he quickly slashed the Sandslash using his sabre. Zaheer fainted at the sight of his own blood.

"NOW YOU'RE MINE, WILLIAM!" said Renard as he zapped the defenceless Dewott using the move thunderbolt. William then fainted afterwards.

"Renard! That is enough! Your team wins the match!" declared the guild master.

"WHO IS THE CHAMPION? ME! WHO IS THE TOUGHEST? ME! ME, LOSERS!" boasted the Jolteon to the fainted Pokemon.

His ego is out of control. Akira thought.

"That was luck! If it wasn't for William's friendly fire, your team would have lost!" said the Brendan the Blaziken to Renard.

"It was not luck, it was skill, my jealous friend! I know you envy my fighting skills. There is no denying that!" said the big headed and narcissistic Jolteon. While the Jolteon and Blaziken quarrelled, the guild master spoke to the Riolu.

"Ryo, did you purposefully lure William into a position where his water pulse would result in a friendly fire?" asked the Gallade.

"Yes sir, it was all part of the plan" said Ryo with a smug grin.

"That was well done. I'm sure your father is going to be very happy about this." Said the Gallade.

"Okay, now for the next sparring session, Brendan! You will team up with Yurnero! Claude, Richard, you two will be their opponents!" said the guild master.

Suddenly, before the sparring session continued, a Swellow came. He brought an urgent message form Lord Mewtwo.

"Guild master Caesar, Lord Mewtwo has called you for an emergency meeting with the ministers and advisors." Said the Swellow.

"What? Okay, I'll be there in a moment" said guild master Caesar.

"Attention! Today's sparring session is dismissed because I have to attend a meeting with Lord Mewtwo! You all may go now" said guild master Caesar before he teleported to Lord Mewtwo's castle.

"Oh Boy! A free day and it is Friday! Awesome!" chirped the Riolu happily.

"Shall we go home now, Ryo?" asked Akira.

"Nah, you go on ahead, I have something important to do. See ya later big brother!" Said Ryo.

Hmmm, he always goes off somewhere every Friday. I wonder… where could he be going…? Thought the Lucario. Out of curiosity, the Lucario started following his little brother secretly. Akira maintained his distance so that his Aura could not be detected by the young Riolu. To his surprise, Akira saw his little brother going to the university library. Akira had never been to the university of Aeterna before. As he ventured deeper into the university grounds to follow his little brother, he was stopped by one of the guards.

"I'm sorry sir, only aristocrats, scholars, and university students can gain access to the university library." Said the guard.

"Why? For security reasons?" asked Akira.

"Correct sir. Books are very expensive because the process of making a book is very laborious. Therefore, we are not taking any chances" explained the guard.

"Okay, fine." Said the Lucario as he saw his little brother entered the library through an opened window. Ryo managed to bypass all the guards because he was small, quick, and stealthy. The Lucario could only stand at the library gate as he lost sight of his little brother.

That night, the Riolu returned home. He unlocked the front door and sneaked quietly into his room.

Akira and Dad must be already asleep…Good. The coast is clear…

Ryo entered his room, locked the door, and from his backpack, he took out some books that he 'borrowed' from the library. There were three books. The first one was titled 'World History' the second one 'Introduction to Philosophy' and the third one 'Encyclopaedia of Dragons'. Suddenly, the wardrobe door opened revealing a Lucario who was hiding inside.

"Ryo! What is the meaning of this?!" asked Akira.

"Akira! How come you are in my room?! Did you ask dad to give you the spare key of my room?! I thought we already agreed to never do that! And one more thing, how long have you been hiding in my wardrobe?!" asked the Riolu.

"That is irrelevant. The important question is, have you been stealing books from the library?!" asked the Lucario.

"I'm not stealing the books, I'm just borrowing them without permission! I will return them as soon as I'm done reading them." Said the Riolu.

"But you know that is illegal!" said the Lucario.

"As long as you don't get caught, it is perfectly legal my brother" said the Riolu cheekily.

"But what if you got caught? If father ever find out about this, he'll kill you." Said the Lucario.

"Akira, you are not going to be a snitch, are you?" said the Riolu.

Akira paused a bit and let out a sigh.

"No, I…I won't. I can't bear seeing father beat you up…" said the Lucario.

"Alright, good. I think our conversation is over." Said the Riolu

"Oh well… I can't stop you from doing what you want anyway… But don't say I didn't warn you. I strongly discourage you from stealing more books. We don't know what kind of punishment you will receive if you ever got caught…" Said the Lucario sternly.

"Thanks for being an understanding big brother" said the Riolu with a cheeky smile.

Akira left Ryo's room. After Akira left, Ryo lifted his mattress. Under his mattress, there were even more books that were hidden all this time. Most of them were about alchemy and engineering. The thickest one was titled 'The Book of Knowledge of Ingenious Mechanical Device', written by Al Jazari, the famous Scholar form Dahara, and Akira had done reading it. Akira then proceeded to read the freshly 'borrowed' books from the library, starting from 'World History'. Since it was Friday night, staying up late was not a problem.

Let's see… World History, written by Magnus H. Skylar. Cool, Professor Magnus himself wrote this book, must be epic. The Riolu thought as he began reading the book.

The pokemon world is known to have a vast and complex history. Despite its complexity, this book tries to provide a simple and brief explanation regarding the history of the pokemon world. It is a common misconception that history is about the past. When we think that history is about the past, this is an error, because history is actually a bridge that connects the past with the present and the future. If we analyse the pattern of events that had happened throughout history, it is evident that history tends to repeat itself. Based on this finding, it is safe to say that by looking at history, we can predict what will happen in the future. There are numerous ways we can interpret history. Most scholars have agreed that history can be interpreted as struggle of power. This interpretation is supported by the fact that in every era, conflict is inevitable as pokemon tend to fight for dominance and power. Scholars and philosophers theorize that it is in the nature of Pokemon to desire power. Nevertheless, it is still unclear whether power is an end or a means to an end.

After reading a few pages, the riolu got immersed in the book. He kept reading and reading up until midnight.

What? it is already twelve o'clock? Who cares. Thought the riolu as he continued reading.

Currently, the history of Pokemon world is divided into seven eras.

The first era is also called the primitive era. During the first era, Pokemon all over world the world still lived nomadically and they survived by hunting and gathering. Language had not been invented yet and there were only 15 pokemon types consisting of Bug, Dragon, Electric, Fighting, Fire, Flying, Ghost, Grass, Ground, Ice, Normal, Poison, Psychic, Rock, and Water. Each type has their own characteristics. For example, ice type pokemon tend to be cold and aloof, fire type pokemon tend to have a fiery temper, fighting type pokemon are strong physically, but weak intellectually, while psychic type is exactly the opposite. Psychic type Pokemon were overpowered due to their immense intellect. The first era lasted for about three millenniums.

Gradually, Pokemon started to become more advanced as they learned how to use simple tools and communicate using simple language. Some quadruped pokemon, like the eevee family for example, began walking with two legs and learning how to grab and hold objects using their forepaws.

It was in the second era that pokemon started to become more civilised. Pokemon began developing different languages, having settled home, making farms, and establishing kingdoms. The overpowered psychic type pokemon were the ones who invented alphabet and established the first kingdom, known as Arcadius. The other types soon copied them. Multiple kingdoms were established such as Drachenberg, the kingdom of dragon type pokemon with lord Giratina as its king, and Atalanta, the water type pokemon kingdom. However, not all types established kingdoms. The desert dwelling ground type pokemon were unable to unite to a single kingdom and lived in tribes that were hostile towards each other. Soon after kingdoms were established, many kingdoms started fighting each other for territory and dominance. Displeased with the violence and bloodshed, the kingdom of Arcadius planned to conquer all kingdom in order to restore order and stop the meaningless fighting. However, the psychic type pokemon were unsuccessful in their ambition because Arceus decided to create new types to make the pokemon world more balanced.

The creation of two new pokemon types, steel and dark type, marked the beginning of the third era. Ever since Arceus introduced steel type and dark type, psychic type pokemon were no longer overpowered. The dragon type pokemon eventually replaced the psychic type as the new overpowered type. Unlike the psychic type who were benevolent, smart, wise, and moral, dragon type pokemon were proud, brutal, heartless, and tyrannical. They believed that they had the right to rule the world and started invading other kingdoms. The only kingdom that Drachenberg could not conquer was Arcadius. One by one, other kingdoms fell and waves of refugees and immigrants swept across Arcadius. Consequently, Arcadius became more diverse.

Ultimately, Arceus realized the elitism of dragon type pokemon and the widespread destruction that they had done. To solve this problem, Arceus created a new type to restore balance and suppress the tyranny of the dragons. This new type was called fairy type and its creation marked the beginning of the fourth era.

Fairies, in general, were soft hearted, selfless, playful, cute, and extremely intelligent. No dragons could harm them because Arceus had decided that fairies were strong against dragons. This angered Lord Giratina, the king of Drachenberg, because this weakness was seen as extremely humiliating for the dragons. After all, how could the mighty and hard-working dragons possibly be weak against sissy and soft fairies?! This was just inconceivable and totally unacceptable for the dragons. Furthermore, due to the presence of fairy type, the dragons were unable to further their ambition for world domination. Even so, the dragons did not run out of ideas.

The dragons eventually discovered that fairy types were weak against steel types and invented metallic weapons to fight the fairies. This worked well and what's more, the invention of metallic weapons completely revolutionized warfare. The use of metallic weapon was more effective in a war than the use of pokemon moves since moves were limited by PP. However, this does not mean that pokemon moves had become obsolete.

The invention of metallic weapons marked the beginning of the fifth era.

Once more, the dragons and their allies became unstoppable since the invention of metallic weapons. Arceus, seeing that the dragons wreaked havoc, had no other choice but to intervene directly. Arceus descended from the hall of origin and destroyed the dragon army all by himself. Giratina, the strongest of the creation trio, fed up with Arceus' authority and instigated other legendary dragons such as Dialga, Palkia, Rayquaza, Zekrom and Zygarde to rebel against Arceus. Depsite their combined effort, the attempt to defeat Arceus was unsuccessful. As a punishment, Giratina was then banished and sealed in the distortion world for eternity. Lord Zekrom then became a new king of Drachenberg after the imprisonment of Giratina and he obeyed Arceus order to demilitarize Drachenberg and sign a peace treaty. Finally, peace was restored, or was it?

Two centuries after the imprisonment of Giratina, a terrible event occurred. A meteor fell from the sky, threatening to put an end to the pokemon world. Heroically, Arceus saved the world from the meteor but while doing so, he lost all of the nineteen plates. As a result, Arceus lost His power and became dormant in the hall of origin after losing the plates. These plates were called life plates because they gave life and power to Arceus. In addition, these plates also allowed Arceus to change His type. Lord Zekrom, knowing that Arceus became powerless without his plates, ordered his troops to seize the plates and keep the plates in the castle of Drachenberg. The fall of Arceus marked the beginning of the sixth era.

With the fall of Arceus, there was no one to stop the dragons. Lord Zekrom wasted no time. He quickly remilitarized Drachenberg, broke the peace treaty, and launched a series of invasion again. This time, Drachenberg managed to conquer Ethurielle, the kingdom of fairy type pokemon. Since the creation of fairy type could not be undone, the only way to get rid of dragons' humiliating weakness against fairies was to make fairy type pokemon extinct. And thus, the fairy genocide began. Thousands of fairies were sent to concentration camps and brutally tortured before being murdered mercilessly.

Arcadius, the only kingdom strong enough to fight Drachenberg, was the only obstacle to world domination by the dragons. Other kingdoms soon put their differences aside and forged an alliance with Arcadius to fight the dragons. After 2 centuries of endless fighting, Lord Mewtwo, the king of Arcadius, grew tired of the war and realized that only Arceus could stop the dragons and put an end to this perpetual war. The problem was, Arceus had lost His power and lay dormant in the hall of origin because He no longer possessed the 19 sacred plates. As stated before, these sacred plates were taken by the dragons and kept inside the castle of Drachenberg. Therefore, in order to revive Arceus, Lord Mewtwo ordered infiltrators that consisted of Dittos and Kecleon to steal the plates. The attempt was successful. The infiltrators managed to steal five plates, which were flame plate, meadow plate, splash plate, pixie plate, and zap plate. The stealing of the plates enraged Lord Zekrom and subsequently, His advisors suggested that the plates should be hidden in separate places around the world instead of being kept inside a single building. Lord Zekrom agreed and until now, nobody knows about the location of the plates.

And so, the war continued for another 3 centuries. Arcadius and its allies were unable to defeat Drachenberg and in the same time, Drachenberg was also unable to advance because Arcadius was too strong, so the war reached a stalemate. Nobody won, and nobody lost.

In the end, a peace treaty was proposed. The treaty was known as the treaty of Sindarin and the content of the treaty was as follows:

1.Drachenberg does not have to liberate conquered kingdoms, especially Ethurielle.

2.No dragons are allowed to set foot on Arcadius.

3.Drachenberg will not launch anymore invasons, as long as the dragons are allowed to hunt down fairies and carry on with the holocaust.

With a heavy heart, Lord Mewtwo signed the treaty. The signing of the treaty of Sindarin marked the beginning of the seventh era, the era in which we currently live in.

The Riolu closed the book as he was getting too sleepy to continue reading. It was already 3 in the morning.

Wow, I have always been taught that dragons are evil, but I have never thought that dragons are THAT evil. No wonder dad is very famous for being a dragon slayer. By the way…'YAWN' I'm tired….The riolu thought. He hid the book under his mattress and proceeded to hit the sack.
