Chapter 2
In the dead of night, with not even a single sound echoing through the quiet home of Sakuto Aizen, Sakuto's eyes slowly open, staring at his ceiling.
For a few moments, he smiled at the fond dream that he had, but that soon stopped when he felt something outside, eyes watching him.
So he turned his eyes to the window, seeing that it was still dark outside, he caught the time with the clock nearby, it only being three in the morning.
He felt the presences energy, soon discovering who it actually was.
"Nemu-san, you don't have to stand outside you know?"
Nemu immediately appeared inside of the room, Sakuto seeing the window opening as she did do.
"Sakuto-sama, though it is early, I must apologize for coming so swiftly."
"Never mind about that Nemu-san, nothing to apologize for, you're always welcome at my home." Sakuto laughed out, as he raised a finger to his eyes, and rubbed. "But, what are you doing here so early? Did something happen?"
"I have received word Sakuto-sama is going to the human world."
He was surprised that she was able to find out so quickly. Though he had learned not to underestimate Nemu's ability to gain information.
"Damn, news travels fast, I only asked permission from my Captain a few hours ago. Yes, its true. But, I wont be going for a few days. Say Nemu-san, do you have any time saved up?"
"Saved up?"
"You know, vacation time."
Nemu nods, but then shakes her head.
"Though I haven't taken any of my time, Mayuri-sama wouldn't allow me to take a vacation. As his assistant, I am to be at his call at all hours."
"Hmmm, yes he probably would try and be against it. I was going to ask, if you'd like to come with me on vacation if you have the vacation saved up."
Nemu didn't change the expression on her face, but the surprise in her eyes was quite evident to Sakuto who was able to detect such differences, due to having been around Nemu for a good while now.
"Going to the human world on vacation with you Sakuto-sama? That...I think would be useful for gathering data, and also continuing my research. But Mayuri-sama..."
Sakuto nods along with what she said, knowing what Mayuri would be doing.
"How about you let me talk to Captain Mayuri for you? He and I...well, I think that I can convince him to let you have the time off."
"If Mayuri-sama permits it, then I would like to journey to the human world with you Sakuto-sama."
Sakuto showed a strong smile.
"Great, then later on, I'll go and find him so we can have that conversation." Sakuto checked the time, and groaned. "But first, its time to have a little sleep. Nemu-san..." Sakuto watched as Nemu walked to the corner of the room, and sat in silence. "...do you want to stay?"
He finished off, seeing Nemu silently setting her book on a table close by, and having on a small light. It seemed to him that she didn't want to be an inconvenience, at least what she would consider an inconvenience, to Sakuto, he didn't mind anyone staying if they wished to.
"Yes."
Sakuto could see she was determined, so he nods, and lies back down.
"I have a spare futon in the closet if you wanna sleep on that."
"I am currently rested, though thank you Sakuto-sama for the offer."
He wasn't convinced by that, since he could see that she was yawning ever so slightly.
"If you're sure, but if you change your mind, feel free."
"Thank you. Goodnight, Sakuto-sama."
"Goodnight Nemu-san."
Sakuto began closing his eyes and though he was beginning to go to sleep...
He soon saw Nemu in fact had fallen asleep while sat up, which he thought would be uncomfortable for her.
So he got up, and went into a closet, bringing out a futon, silently placed Nemu on it, her head on the pillow, and a cover over her, allowing her to have a peaceful sleep.
"Sleep well, Nemu-san."
Sakuto yawned, and returned to his bed, ready to get a good nights sleep.
Though soon enough, still within the night, he felt a new presence coming, so he brought the sides of the pillow to wrap around his head, letting out a small breath.
He knew he'd not be able to get some sleep after all...
Standing in a field, early in the morning with the sun having yet to rise, Sakuto held his Zanpakuto to his shoulder, with the blade pointing towards his back, and in front of him, a few Hollows. Deep within the Rukongai, outside of the Seireitei walls, and were the souls of those who weren't Shinigami lived, it seemed that some Hollows had decided to come and cause problems for the residents.
Though Sakuto didn't sense any major hard hitting Hollows, it seemed to be the type that could cause problems for those that were seated officers and less, but for a Vice Captain, it was something not to really worry about.
Beside him, stood a young woman.
The young woman was named Nanao Ise.
Nanao is a slim and youthful girl with long black hair normally kept pinned back, with flat bangs that hang to the right side of her face. Nanao also wears a standard Shinigami outfit. She has slightly light blue eyes that have a deep tint of violet and wears glasses with a slight oval shape to them.
Nanao looked towards Sakuto, who in turn gave a cheery smile back.
"Honestly, I am so sorry about this, Sakuto-kun. Captain Kyoraku insists that you come with me during this mission. Despite the many times I have said that I can handle a simple Hollow extermination, he was rather insistent."
Sakuto waved his hand.
"You don't have to keep apologizing Nanao-chan. Its alright, really."
Nanao pushes up her glasses.
"I see, then let us finish this quickly. I am sure that you also have pressing matters to attend to."
"Well, I don't really have anything to do at five in the morning. You know?"
Nanao's lips curled ever so slightly upwards, as she glanced at the time, seeing how early it truly was.
"Yes, usually I take this time to sleep myself."
"Haha, me too Nanao-chan~"
Sakuto twirled his sword around, and aimed it at one of the incoming Hollows.
Before the Hollow was able to fully approach, Sakuto thrusted his sword forward as he called out "Bakudo 4, Hainawa." and from his chant, a golden like rope came out from his extending finger, and shot around the Hollows.
Due to the speed of the rope, they couldn't escape, and were brought together in a single place, where Sakuto raised his Zanpakuto. The Hollows tried to brute force their way out of the Kido spell, but their strength wasn't enough to budge the binding rope.
"Goodbye."
With a swing of his sword, Sakuto managed to cleave through all of the Hollows. Blood splattered across the ground, as their bodies vanished into nothingness.
Once finished, he turned to Nanao, who in turn gave a simple subtle smile.
"Again, I am sorry for calling for such a threat. I could have handled them on my own, but for whatever reason, my Captain insists that we go together. I am not sure where his head space is at times. It would be more efficient for two Vice Captains to lead different squads. But, he always makes his insistence known."
Sakuto shakes his head.
"I'm sure he's merely worrying about you Nanao-chan. Its really good that you have a nice Captain like Captain Kyoraku. You could've ended up with a crazy Captain or something. Captain Kyoraku is one of the good ones, trust me~"
"Hm, perhaps you're right about that."
Sakuto places his hands behind his head, and lets out a breath.
"Besides, it gives us an excuse to hang out even more, right Nanao-chan? With our busy schedules at times, we can't always make arrangements, so its good we get to spend time together."
Nanao agreed with a nod of her head.
"Yes, that's true. Though next time, I'll make sure that it is a little later than this early time." Sakuto laughed, as the pair turned back towards the Seireitei. "I suppose we should be going back now. Unless there's anything else to be done here."
"Hmmm, don't think so, taken care of the Hollows. Think we're all set."
"Yes, I agree. Then let us return."
Sakuto nods, cocks his head to a nearby building.
"Nemu-san, we're going."
Nanao widened her eyes, as Nemu appeared from behind the building, and stood close to Sakuto.
"Yes, understood Sakuto-sama."
Sakuto smiled, while Nanao was astonished to see that Nemu had been there this entire time, she truly hadn't noticed at all.
Soon they returned to the Seireitei, and went towards the Squad 8 Barracks to finish off the report from the incident. Though because it was a relatively simple mission, they were able to finish it within rather record timing.
However, when Sakuto was about to leave, a tall Shinigami with grey eyes and long wavy brown hair accessorized with pin-wheel hairpins, entered the room.
"Nanao-chan, it seems you've found your boyfriend already. How sweet."
Tipping his straw hat towards Nanao, his pink, flowered kimono, which he drapes across his shoulders and over his Captain's uniform flapped in the wind.
This man was Shunsui Kyoraku, the Captain of Squad 8, Nanao's very own Captain.
Nanao looked embarrassed when Shunsui said that, to the point that she gained an annoyed face.
"C-Captain, saying such outlandish things when you're the reason that we were put together on this assignment in the first place. Our cooperation has nothing to do with relationships, so I would like to request that you keep those thoughts to yourself."
Shunsui showed his ever relaxed smile, as he walked over to Nanao, placing a hand on her shoulder.
"Nanao-chan, you don't have to worry. You have me in your corner. I shall help you navigate your feelings towards-"
Nanao grabbed a nearby apple, and shoved it into Shunsui's mouth, silencing him.
Sakuto lifted his lips ever so slightly, finding the exchange amusing.
"Enough of your nonsense Captain Kyoraku. We have done the mission that has been assigned."
Shunsui took a bite out of the apple, and looked towards Nanao with a small smirk.
"What's wrong Nanao-chan? I think you and Sakuto-kun have a really good connection-"
Nanao exhales, and once more shoves another apple into his mouth, silencing him.
"You may leave Sakuto-kun, I have some stuff to discuss with Captain Kyoraku. One being minding ones business."
Sakuto scratched the back of his head, seeing Shunsui laughing unevenly, under the intense gaze of Nanao.
"I guess I should get a head start on some duties. Though, drinks later Kyoraku-san?"
Shunsui showed a very happy smile upon hearing that.
"Of course, if Jushiro is up to it as well, then lets have a nice drink together."
"Great, then I'll see you then Kyoraku-san~" Sakuto glanced at Nanao. "See you later Nanao-chan."
"Yes, of course. Thank you again for accompanying me." Sakuto waved, and left, Nanao noticed the grin working its way onto Shunsui's face. "Captain, you place unnecessary burdens upon Sakuto-kun's shoulders."
"Burdens? I didn't see any burdens placed upon him in the slightest. In fact, I know he likes spending time with you Nanao-chan. I might ask, but he could always refuse which I make abundantly clear to him. Yet, he never does. So, from where I am standing, it seems to me that there could be something going on between you two. I merely am creating the situations for you both to have time together. It isn't bad, is it?"
Nanao looked briefly stunned, and didn't know what to say.
She thought about what Shunsui said, and his general thoughts as well.
However, she soon returned to be stern, and thrusted paperwork down near Shunsui, who groaned.
"These need to be signed, no slacking off."
"Ugh...maybe I should go and find Sakuto-kun to have a drink with him..."
"Not until you sign these papers."
Shunsui cringed, seeing the narrowing eyebrows of the young woman upin his form.
"Aah, Nanao-chan. You can be a cruel woman. You know, Sakuto-kun isn't so mean to Jushiro."
"That's a different situation to ours, there's no comparison that can be made."
Nanao pushes up her glasses, while Shunsui grimaces at the scowl working its way onto Nanao's face, showing that she truly did mean business.
A small time later, Momo was in the middle of making breakfast, and was sat together with Sosuke, who was reading a book currently. Momo herself looked around, and couldn't see Sakuto, something that Sosuke noted.
"Looking for my little brother, Momo?"
Momo stiffened, and shook her head.
"N-No, of course not Captain Aizen, though Sakuto-kun usually does join us for breakfast."
"Perhaps he's been called to another mission."
"Or perhaps I'm just running a little late~"
Sakuto laughed out, as he appeared beside Momo, to Sosuke's amusement.
Momo, not realizing that it was Sakuto who said that as she was busy looking down, began nodding.
"Yes, maybe its that..." She froze when she noticed a pressure beside her, so she turned to see Sakuto stood there. "Sakuto-kun!"
"Hey Momo-chan. What's going on?"
"Breakfast~ You?"
"Hollow slaying." While saying it, Sakuto glanced to his elder brother. "Sosuke, you seem quiet."
"Don't mind me, I'm simply enjoying this book I'm reading. Its from the human world. Recently, I have taken an interest within different literature of the human world."
Sakuto looked over the title of the book, his smile growing ever so slightly.
"Huh, I see, I like reading some human literature as well. So, what are you up to today Sosuke?"
"Duty, upon duty I am afraid. Though I am sure that soon you wont have to worry about that. I heard from your Captain this morning."
Momo looked perplexed.
"Huh? What do you mean Captain Aizen? Is something happening with Sakuto-kun?"
Sakuto leaned close to Momo, and showed his smile.
"Well, I've had some holiday time saved up, and I'm taking a vacation in a few days. Probably for about a month or so. Unwind, and get a little time to relax."
Momo was briefly surprised by that, but then she became happy, knowing that he rarely took any time off.
"Ooh, that sounds nice. Going anywhere nice?"
"Aah, human world. Wanna check out the latest things there. There's something called Manga, that I believe looks rather intriguing. At least according to some of the other Vice Captains anyway. So I might try that. And there's this place in Japan I want to visit that apparently has the best hot springs."
"Ooh wow, that does sound good. I wish I could come, but I haven't gotten any holiday saved up."
Sakuto lightly chuckled, and patted Momo's head.
"I'll be sure to bring you back a souvenir."
Momo shows a cute kind smile, while Sosuke reveals a soft smile.
"Would I be getting one too?"
"Eeh...well, I dunno about that..." Sosuke lifted a brow at Sakuto's fake unsure attitude. "Of course, I couldn't leave you out Sosuke." Sakuto playfully jibe, Sosuke let out the tiniest of laughs. "By the way Sosuke, I heard that there's some big demonstration you're doing soon, what's that about?"
"Ah yes, I promised the academy a display of different Shinigami techniques. It seems that they wished for a Vice Captain or Captain, and I had some free time, so I said that I'd do it this time."
"Aah yeah, I remember doing that a few times." Sakuto looked towards Momo. "Remember Momo-chan?"
"Hehe, how could I forget? I remember when you and Captain Aizen both came to the academy together and showed off the skills of Shinigami first hand, it was amazing."
Sosuke glanced at Momo, and saw her adorning eyes, so Sosuke hummed as he thought about something.
"Hearing that Momo has given me an idea." Sakuto turned his elder brother who in turn blinked. "Why don't you come with me Saku? We can demonstrate in a battle between us many different ways to combat opponents. Of course, it would only be a spar, but I couldn't think of anyone better to demonstrate all four different Shinigami fighting styles than between us, and show them how to mix and match different abilities together. If anything, perhaps it will invigorate those watching to try their hardest."
Sakuto briefly paused, looking his elder brother in the eye, who kept up his smile.
"A spar against you huh Sosuke? Its been a while since we've done a proper one."
"Yes, it has been sometime. I was thinking about it since our fight against those Hollows yesterday, I thought it would be a good way to...well, how to say this..."
"I like it when we get to spend time together too. Between our duties, its hard to find the time. So yes, I'd love to spar against you Sosuke."
Sosuke gave a refreshing smile.
"Then its set for tomorrow. I'm sure that together, we'll put on a good show."
"Of course, it'll be an extravagant performance~"
Sakuto and Sosuke shared a small smile between them, while Momo loved seeing how their relationship was.
Sometime after that, Rukia was beginning to pack her things away and make sure that everything she had was already put away and she would take only the essentials, since she wasn't going to be there for all that long.
In the middle of that, she received a knock at the door.
Curious, she felt who it was, then she developed a slight smile.
Going to the door, she opened it to see her Vice Captain stood there.
"Vice...I mean, Sakuto. Is there something I can help you with?"
Sakuto gave a strong smile, as he began fishing out an item for Rukia.
"Yeah, remember when I said I wanted to give you something? Now, where did it go…?"
Rukia recalled from the previous evening that Sakuto did have something that he wished to give her. She honestly wasn't expecting anything at all, so this was going to be a rather happy occasion for the young woman.
Then what he pulled out, caused her to become very gleeful.
"Chappy!" Rukia let out her voice unrestrained, her face began turning bright red as she saw a phone that had the Chappy the rabbit design as a cover. "Ooh my, Sakuto! That's really Chappy! How did you find something like this?"
Sakuto withheld a small laugh that threatened to escape his throat at her excited attitude towards anything Chappy related.
"Its a phone case, got it made for you. If you're going to have a soul phone while in the human world to help detect those Hollows, I figured you'd want to have something interesting to look at." Rukia admired the phone, and kept twirling it around so she could see the face of Chappy on the back of it. "Also, I did this. I think you're going to like it."
Rukia watched in amazement as he took his own phone out, and called her phone.
What happened next made Rukia become increasingly astonished, as her phone rang, the theme song of Chappy that she recalled hearing a few times before now ringing pleasantly within her ears.
"C-Chappy's song…? I have Chappy's song on my phone…? This is..." Rukia clutched her phone tightly. "This is truly amazing, Sakuto." Rukia placed a hand on top of his own, and gave a strong expression. "Thank you for giving me, this is one of the best things I have ever seen before."
Sakuto was happy for her, she really did love Chappy after all.
"Well, I am glad to make you happy. So, got everything prepared Rukia-chan?"
Rukia looked around her room, and thought about it.
"Yes, I believe so."
"That's good. So, ready to become Karakura towns protector?"
"I think so. I think that it is going to be interesting, I haven't been to the human world in a while. Though, rumours said you did yesterday. Including that of a Hollow situation that went wrong?"
"Rumours would be right, I had to go when a situation with Rangiku-san and Momo-chan went wrong. But, it seems that everything has been cleared up now, and they've recovered very nicely. So don't worry about that."
Rukia nods swiftly.
"Yes, I'm glad that nothing happened to them. Still, did you or Captain Aizen discover what that Hollow was truly doing?"
"Working theory was that it was more mindless than anything, but you never know, so we're keeping an eye on the area that it was in. Just in case the Hollows come back, though thankfully the area wasn't an area that humans really occupied, it could have been a dangerous situation given what that Hollow was capable of doing to Shinigami like Momo-chan and Rangiku-san. Which also gives us questions as to why it was even around there in the first place. You know what I mean?"
Rukia raises her fingers to her mouth, and looked to be in deep thought.
"That does make one wonder why the Hollow would target such an area. Maybe to lure the Shinigami to their location perhaps?"
"Hm, that is also a good theory. Though you've got enough to worry about for the time being Rukia-chan. Like Karakura town. Let us back here worry about that. It might be simply nothing at all."
Rukia gave a humbling smile.
"Of course Sakuto. So, I guess this is it for a little while."
Sakuto nods his head kindly.
"Yeah, be careful Rukia-chan. Even if they're seemingly weak Hollows, you never know what kind of abilities they may have. Stay sharp, and vigilant."
Hearing his words of wisdom, she took them on board and bowed her head.
"If its advice from a Vice Captain, then I'll take it very seriously."
Sakuto let out a small laugh along with a signature pat on the head showing kindness and gentleness at the same time, Rukia herself felt her lips curling upwards, as she watched Sakuto take out what appeared to be a charm, and he tied it to the hilt of her Zanpakuto.
"In Japan, these are used for good fortune. So perhaps this will bring you good fortune while in Karakura town."
Rukia bowed her head respectably.
"Thank you, Sakuto."
Sakuto smiled at the young woman, who in turn gave one right back.
Though to Rukia, it did feel sad, she knew it wouldn't be all that long before she would be able to come back to the Seireitei.
Rukia then took out her phone she received from Sakuto.
"Now, how do you listen to the music on this phone..."
Sakuto held back a small chuckle, and began explaining to the young woman about how to use the music apps on her phone, Rukia herself was astonished, and was in awe at such a sight as she didn't know that some functions on her phone were even there, though she was happy to learn about them now...
A small time later, within the Shinigami's Women Association, a number of the participants were sat down. Including that of an intrigued Momo, a happily drinking Rangiku, Nemu who was stood at the back with a notebook. Yachiru was hopping around the room, and Nanao herself was stood at the front of the room, looking between those that were in said room.
Along with them was a young woman who is a relatively petite woman with gray eyes and black hair which she wears short with two long braids bound in white cloth, each ending in a large golden ring, she was wearing a Captains haori who's name is Soi Fon.
Next to her was Retsu Unohana. She has the appearance of a slender and very youthful woman with blue eyes and black hair. She wears the standard Shinigami captain uniform apart from using an obi instead of the normal sash. Her hair is long and is worn as a large braid down the front of her body.
Finally, there were two other occupants within the room.
One of them was Sakuto, who had Yachiru leaping all around and on him. From his lap, to his shoulders, to the top of his head even, he simply sat there, with a calm expression on his face, sharing a smile with Momo, though when he tried to smile at Soi Fon, it seemed that she kept on a stoic expression.
The other, was Mayuri, who had one elbow on the table before him, resting his head on his hand, his annoyed eyes went towards Sakuto, not leaving his form for even a moment, those that were forced to sit around Mayuri looked worried, and kept trying to put distance between them.
"Saku-chan! Saku-chan! What candy do you have today?"
"I have some chocolate covered marshmallows with a caramel centre for you Yachiru-san. I hope you enjoy."
"Wow, I haven't had them before Saku-chan! Lets dig in!"
Sakuto produced a rather large bag, and placed it on a table near Yachiru, who opened it gleefully, and began eating the contents of said bag.
Nanao on the other hand didn't look pleased, and turned to Mayuri.
"Excuse me Captain Kurotsuchi, but why are you here?"
Mayuri furrowed his brows, and saw that Nanao hadn't said anything about Sakuto's presence.
"Aren't you going to say anything about him being here?"
Referring to Sakuto, the young man waved at Nanao, who in turn waved right back, angering Mayuri even more.
Soi Fon was staying silent, but she was becoming a little more agitated with Mayuri every second that passed, as she wished to get on with the meeting.
"He is an invited guest, you are not."
Mayuri resisted the urge to voice what he believes were his grievances, but it didn't take long before he looked towards Sakuto, and narrowed his eyebrows considerably.
"Why is he invited?! I'm a Captain, shouldn't I have precedence over him?!"
Soi Fon breathed hard in and out of her nose, her dark eyes going towards Mayuri, who continued ranting about his importance.
Sakuto on the other hand placed a hand to his chest, and spoke elegantly to Mayuri.
"While Rukia-chan is away, I thought as her Vice Captain, it would be my duty to attend these meetings on her behalf, and give her the notes so she doesn't feel left out for when she gets back. Kiyone-san is also rather busy today, so I said I'd take notes for her as well."
"Very noble of you, Sakuto-kun. I myself am taking notes for my Vice Captain who has other duties to attend to."
Unohana spoke up, antagonizing Mayuri even more.
"Thank you Captain Unohana, your words are very kind."
Unohana bows her head and turns to Mayuri.
"Captain Kurotsuchi, you may leave now."
Mayuri wasn't standing for it, and stood up rather swiftly, forcing the table he was leaning on to shake, giving Momo a fright, who in turn pushed her chair very close to Sakuto to evade the wrath of Mayuri.
"No. If he stays, I stay!"
Soi Fon tightened her hands under the table. Though her face remained neutral, her hands showed that she wasn't going to be standing for this for very much longer. In fact, she looked as if she was reaching her limits.
Nanao ignored what Mayuri said, fixing her gaze upon the Captain.
"Now that misunderstanding has been settled. Please leave immediately."
Nanao gave him those strong words, but Mayuri wouldn't allow himself to leave, he wouldn't allow Sakuto to get away from him.
"No, I refuse to leave. I am staying right here."
Nanao twitched an eyebrow, and pushed her glasses ever so slightly off of her face, her hand resting on the desk before her, Mayuri noticing that she was gripping the desk ever so slightly, but it was enough to cause worry within the Captain.
"Please leave immediately Captain Kurotsuchi."
Nanao repeated, her voice being harsher than it had been previously, showing that she truly wasn't going to back down this time.
Mayuri stiffened as Nanao gave a sharp look from her increasingly narrowing brows, even Mayuri seemed to be bothered by her gaze which Sakuto thought was quite amazing considering the type of person that Mayuri was.
"...No, I will not leave if he isn't. I am standing my ground on this."
Soi Fon had reached her boiling point, and she glared hard, as she whispered "Captain Kurotsuchi, the Vice President has asked you to leave, so leave immediately." and though she said it without a raised voice, that actually induced fear into those like Rangiku who saw Soi Fon looking ready to fight at any moment.
Mayuri felt the intense gaze of the women around him, he didn't want to mess with any of them, especially the likes of Unohana who was the main reason that Mayuri was beginning to sweat.
But then Nanao took off her glasses, causing Mayuri to become a little wide eyed at what he saw, and he stiffened.
"A...Alright, I will leave. But I will be outside boy! Waiting for you!"
Unohana took in a single breath, and very calmly, walked towards Mayuri.
She placed a hand on his shoulder, and he in turn paled, feeling the scary intense eyes of Unohana burning into his flesh, and etching into every corner of his mind, the sheer terror the woman could produce was more than enough to give even Mayuri pause.
"If you are going to be waiting outside, then I will be as well. So, in my humble advice, it is best if you head on back to your squad, Captain Kurotsuchi."
Though she was smiling, her eyes displayed a great hostility that couldn't easily be surpassed by anyone.
Mayuri felt very worried about that, and stood up strongly, doing his best to ignore the look that he was receiving from Unohana, though it was proving to be rather difficult.
"I...I need to get back to my lab anyway. I have duties to attend to."
Mayuri glanced at Nemu, but it seemed as if she was going to stay, so he huffed and walked out.
Nanao released a breath.
"Now that is over with, it is time to discuss the budgets, and what we need to spend the money on."
Yachiru, who leapt onto Sakuto's lap, thrusted her small hand into the sky.
"I know! I know! I wanna have a life sized Saku-chan made so when he isn't here, we can still have Saku-chan here! Though it wont be like the real Saku-chan, I still want it!"
Nanao exhaled slowly, while Rangiku giggles.
"I know Momo-chan would go wild for that, right Momo-chan~?"
"W-What!?"
Momo did a spit take, while Soi Fon glances at Sakuto, who in turn gives her a soft smile.
She looks over his features for a few moments, before turning her head around.
"Perhaps we could have a fighting contest. If this is to be held, I suggest that I would fight against Sakuto. The winner gets to tell the loser what to do for a week, I believe that would be the best course of action."
Soi Fon spoke up, drawing confused looks from all in the room, even Yachiru looked momentarily confused, but then she shook her head.
"No, Soi-chan! Saku-chan cannot be controlled by you! If you did, then how can I get my sweets from Saku-chan if he's too busy serving you?"
Soi Fon narrowed her brows, then folded her arms.
"I still believe it would be best if we had a fighting contest. Since I myself prefer Hakuda, it would be a good chance to have a challenge that focuses in on that particular aspect." Soi Fon's eyes went towards Sakuto who offered a kind smile. "Wouldn't you agree Sakuto?"
He could feel the intense eyes of Soi Fon, it was a rather...unique feeling to have for sure.
"Hmmm, well. It could be entertaining."
Soi Fon nods strongly, and gives fiercely determined eyes towards him.
Nemu looked on with her usual stoic expressions, before her voice came out.
"I believe it would be a good idea to sell merchandise based off of Sakuto-sama, to raise funds for the association. He is a popular Vice Captain, and I believe it would drive up sales for our funds for the next meeting, so we could buy even more items for the association. I suggest teddy bears with Sakuto-sama's appearance. I believe that would be the best starting point according to the information that I have gathered from several resources, that would be a opportunity for high sales."
Nemu said quietly, but was heard by Yachiru who in turn became rather excited, Sakuto also caught it, and looked briefly surprised that Nemu of all people would offer such a thing, yet at the same time he was pleased that Nemu was speaking up more, a stark contrast to how she would be if Mayuri was around.
"Wait, you've done so much research about Sakuto-kun?"
Momo wondered, Nemu nods with the same straight face, and continues on.
"Yes. I have begun doing extensive research, and am compiling my information together in a single book. When I have finished analysing my data, I would share it with you. According to my information, Hinamori-sans affection level for Sakuto-sama is-"
"N-No! No! No! We don't have to share anything like that Kurotsuchi-san!"
"I understand, Hinamori-san. I believe you are feeling embarrassed currently. Though it is not my intention, as I believe Hinamori-san has a very good relationship with Sakuto-sama..."
As Nemu went into it, Momo's bottom lip trembled yet at the same time was oddly happy to hear this from Nemu, Rangiku gives a knowing look towards the Vice Captain of Squad 5, believing she understood a good deal of what was going on.
Yachiru on the other hand cheered loudly, thinking of many different merchandises that she could sell.
"Yay! Saku-chan bear! Saku-chan pillows! Saku-chan bookcase! Saku-chan ice cream!"
"Saku-kun body pillow!"
Rangiku yelled out in excitement, Momo blushed even harder as her thoughts briefly went towards Sakuto on a body pillow which she could hug, she swiftly thrusted her hands to her face, covering said face, while Sakuto raised a brow.
"N-Now, everyone. Calm down."
Nanao's words fell on deaf ears as more and more outlandish suggestions came from them.
Though when Rangiku said "Saku-kun calendar!" that did it for Momo who blushed hard, and look towards Sakuto, who gazed at her curiously back.
"Momo-chan, your face has suddenly gone bright red. What thoughts are in your mind huh~?"
He playfully teased Momo, as she looked unfocused upon Sakuto, she then let out a cute "Eeep!" as her head fell against Sakuto's shoulder, the stimulation of her thoughts seemingly overwhelming her, something Rangiku thought was so sweet and how cute Momo could truly be.
A small time later, Sakuto went to go and find Mayuri, knowing now would be the best time for him to speak with the mad scientist, on behalf of Nemu.
Nemu herself had taken to walking beside him, staying rather silent.
"So Nemu-san, did you enjoy the meeting?"
"I believe that everyone got excited. I was astonished to see how wild everyone was becoming. I wish to see more of these interactions when we return Sakuto-sama. Though, I am in doubt that Mayuri-sama would allow me to leave. He currently is in the middle of an experiment."
"Isn't he always?"
Nemu paused when Sakuto said that off handedly, she thought about it and ultimately nods.
"Yes, I believe that he is."
"Then there would never be a good time..." As Sakuto said it, he felt a presence above him, so he looked and saw Kenpachi coming down from the sky, with his blade ready to cut into Sakuto. "Seems that we have a visitor."
Sakuto withdrew his sword, and leapt into the air, Kenpachi didn't waste time, and brought it down while Sakuto swung it up. Their blades clashes violently in the air, generating a shockwave strong enough to carve into the ground, despite being a good distance into the air.
"So you sensed me did you? Good, then I'll have to try harder!"
Kenpachi swung his blade for Sakuto who this time parried, and then grabbed Kenpachi's clothes, giving him a chance to pull himself close, using Kenpachi as a stepping stone to leap behind him, where Kenpachi was in the process of swinging around, so Sakuto stuck out his hand.
"Hado 31, Shakkaho!"
Gathering a red energy sphere before his hand, he shot it out and it charged forward like a fast moving ball, Kenpachi stuck his sword towards the sphere, which generated an explosion upon being struck by his sword, firing Kenpachi down to the ground, who noticed some burn marks across his sword wielding hand.
"Heh, I don't use that Kido stuff, but it seems to be a good tool for you to make the fight more interesting!"
Kenpachi kicked off the ground, and shot towards the airborne Sakuto, swinging his sword rapidly. His unruly spirit energy aided him in this, and together with a swing of his blade, Sakuto could feel the incredible power that was behind such a swing, launching him towards the ground at a very high speed rate.
Nemu who was standing close by, went to step forward, when she saw Sakuto spin around, and aim his hand downwards.
"Bakudo 37, Tsuriboshi!"
Kenpachi was intrigued as a ball of blue energy was shot from Sakuto's hand towards the ground, which fires out six ropes from its centre. As the ropes attach themselves to nearby sturdy objects, the energy in the centre solidifies into a flat elastic like cushion.
"Huh...what are you doing with that?"
Kenpachi wondered in his head, seeing Sakuto adjusting his body as he came close to the elastic like cushion.
Using that elastic like cushion, Sakuto fell against it, and like a spring along with using his flash step to assist him, propelled himself so fast even Kenpachi was blind sided, and only realized that Sakuto was close when he was right up in Kenpachi's face, and already was swinging his blade towards him.
"Shit."
Not having enough time to swing his own sword, Kenpachi could only move his blade to block the strike, which, with the force behind Sakuto's increase of speed, repelled Kenpachi away from Sakuto as he pushed his blade forward and down, forcing him towards the ground, which fractured underneath the pressure Kenpachi's body smashing into it.
"Haaaah!"
But Sakuto wasn't done yet, and was coming down swinging his blade, though Kenpachi reacted, stabbing his blade upwards, forcing Sakuto to dodge mid air, and return to the ground, only for Kenpachi to bring his blade down, so Sakuto raised his sword over his head, and took the full impact of the swing.
Debris flew everywhere while the blades pushed against one another, before Sakuto flashed a few feet away, while Kenpachi took a stance with his blade.
"Attacking me on the street Captain Kenpachi, I think that those that take care of this area are gonna get pissed off."
Sakuto joked, only for Kenpachi to tighten his hand on his swords handle.
"What is the meaning of you going to the human world?"
He didn't sound that happy, Sakuto in turn cringed.
"So you heard. Is it a problem?"
"I'd lose someone that I like fighting against. And for a month, that's too long."
Sakuto chuckled unevenly as he looked towards Kenpachi's eyes, seeing that in fact he wasn't wearing his eyepatch so he meant business.
"I see, so that's how it is. Captain, you don't have to worry, I'll have a few more fights than usual with you before I leave."
"I see...then lets begin."
Sakuto lightly laughed, and swung his sword around.
Nemu observed the interactions between them, and believed she understood what was going on between them.
A small time later, over two hours at that, Sakuto and Nemu finally arrived towards Mayuri's lab. It wasn't a place that Sakuto liked to visit, but for Nemu he didn't mind at all. So he journeyed into the centre of the lab, seeing Mayuri going over some documents that one of his Squad members Akon had handed him.
"Captain Mayuri-"
Before his sentence finished, Mayuri clicked his fingers, and aimed a look towards Sakuto.
"What do you want? I am extremely busy."
Hearing the dismissive attitude, Sakuto took in a breath, then began explaining to Mayuri.
"Nemu-san wishes to accompany me to the human world. As her Captain, she needs permission from you."
"Permission she's not going to get. I have many experiments going on, and I need my assistants, so I don't have time to find a new one."
"You have Akon-san as an assistant who does a lot things Nemu-san does for you if she is usually busy with other duties."
Sakuto said with a sweat drop, Mayuri gave a dismissive look.
"Either way, she isn't going. That's the end of it. Looks like I have the ball in my court this time boy."
Sakuto placed a hand on his forehead and sighed deeply.
"Not everything is a competition Captain."
"It isn't when the clear winner is obvious. Now run along. Nemu, I have some duties for you, don't leave."
Sakuto rolled his eyes at Mayuri, as he came closer.
Mayuri watched with intrigued eyes, as Sakuto pulled out a piece of paper.
"Read this, then give me your answer again."
Sakuto's words caused Mayuri pause.
Nemu looked perplexed, wondering what was on the paper.
Mayuri narrowed his brows, then opened the paper, and read it to himself silently.
As he read it, his face lit up ever so slightly, looking like a kid in a candy store.
"...You are just giving me this?"
"Yes. Everything said there is true. Would that satisfy you?"
Mayuri looked over the paper once more, and then towards Nemu.
"What are you standing around for girl? You can go now, gain more valuable information for me from the human world."
Nemu didn't show it on her face, but she was highly astonished to see that actually worked.
She wondered what Sakuto had given in exchange for Mayuri to agree to this.
"Great, then Nemu-san. Lets get going~"
Nemu nods stoically, glancing towards Sakuto, and then towards Mayuri who was engrossed with the paper received from Sakuto.
She followed Sakuto out of the labs, glancing back at Mayuri one last time to see his face rather gleeful.
"Sakuto-sama, what did you give Mayuri-sama?"
"Ooh, he's been after this data on a Hollow I fought a few months ago. It had some interesting abilities, I held off on it, so it could be used this way~"
"I see, that is very resourceful Sakuto-sama. You know how Mayuri-sama's mind works."
"Yeah, seems so~ Anyway, we will be going in a day or so Nemu-san, so lets get ready."
Sakuto added, as he and Nemu exited the area.
Meanwhile, within the human world, more specifically, Karakura town, Rukia began doing her duties as a Shinigami. She casually patrolled the town, noting the sun that was high in the sky.
She checked her phone, and couldn't see any Hollows that could be causing any problems.
Though, she also began playing the Chappy song as she walked across a rooftop.
"Chappy, this is really amazing. I wonder what else this phone can do?"
Rukia murmured to herself, when suddenly she heard a voice "Wow Tatsuki-chan, you're really doing the tournament this year?" so Rukia casually drew her eyes downwards, and saw two girls walking along the path near a road.
One was a teenager of average height. She has brown eyes and long, waist-length, burnt orange hair. Her most noticeable physical trait is her slender yet curvaceous figure. She wears her hair in bangs tucked behind her ears with hairpins, and currently was wearing the uniform of the school she attended, including that of a white shirt with a grey blazer on top, and matching grey skirt.
The other is a teenager of average height with black hair and brown eyes. She has a very lean frame, with her hair being short and dark, kept spiked out at the sides, giving her a tom boy overall appearance, along with wearing the same outfit as her friend.
They were named Orihime and Tatsuki respectably.
"Yeah, I think I can go all the way this year Orihime. You gonna watch me?"
"Of course! I'll cheer you on Tatsuki-chan!"
Tatsuki gave a strong smile, as Orihime gave one right back.
But soon she felt something, and stopped.
Rukia raised a brow as the girl slowly turned her neck, and began going up towards Rukia herself.
Rukia wondered if Orihime did sense her, or something happened that caused her to look in her direction.
Orihime soon locked eyes with Rukia, who was briefly baffled.
"She can see me..." Rukia thought, as a memory came to her. "...Right, Vice Captain Sakuto did mention there was a girl in the human world that could see spirits, I guess she's that girl. Her friend doesn't seem to be able to see me though."
As Rukia thought it, Orihime stuck out her hand, and waved towards Rukia.
Baffled on what to do, Rukia gave an awkward wave back, which made Orihime brightly smile.
Tatsuki on the other hand was clueless as to what was going on.
"Orihime? Is there someone over there? Or did you see something?"
Tatsuki took a look, but all she saw was empty space.
Orihime giggled with a similarly awkwardness that Rukia displayed.
"Ooh, nothing at all~" Tatsuki remained clueless, and went to speak, when Orihime linked arms with her. "Say Tatsuki-chan, lets go and eat ice cream~"
Tatsuki gave a curious look towards her friend, not sure what to think about her.
"Sure, lets go."
Orihime giggled and the pair continued walking off.
Rukia wondered a little more about Orihime, the circumstances behind her and Sakuto meeting.
However, while she did contemplate it, she suddenly felt something inside of her, that caused her to instantly froze.
An opening in space began appearing behind her, yet Rukia remained unaware of it as a feeling captivated her heart.
"What is...this feeling…?"
Rukia placed a hand to her chest, as a chill went down her spine.
Though, nothing physical had actually happened to her, Rukia felt sweat beginning to drip down her forehead, and down her chin. Her breathing began becoming laboured, her chest moving at a more rapid pace than previously.
A hand began coming out of the portal in the air, it was so small that it barely could fit a hand.
Elongated fingers that began encroaching around her from behind…
When the charm Sakuto gave to her began to glow, causing the hand to retract from her as if repelled by some force, and forced it to go into the portal.
"Huh, what was that?"
Rukia thought she felt something along with out of the corner of her eye seeing a small glow, so she looked around and saw nothing.
Rukia glanced down at her sword next, and saw the charm wasn't lit up, so she was curious as to what happened.
Rukia checked her phone, and saw no Hollow trace.
She also didn't feel any spirit energy either.
Furrowing her brows, she looked around, and yet found nothing.
Taking a breath, Rukia suddenly saw her phone make a noise, so she checked, and saw that it was a Hollow.
"That must've been it...seems pretty close. Maybe it hid itself...strange."
Rukia took up arms, withdrew her blade, as she leapt off of the rooftop, and made her way towards the Hollow.
However, what Rukia didn't notice was that eyes followed her.
Generating a small portal within the air to look out over Rukia, the mysterious intruder to the town was preparing to strike at the perfect time…
Returning home for the evening, Sakuto laid on his bed, and blew his hair upwards.
Giving himself a little time to relax, he went into his Shinigami robes, and fished out the same necklace he always wore, his eyes glued to it.
"Back to the human world soon...Karakura town...always such an interesting place to go. I wonder how Rukia-chan is doing? I wonder if she saw Orihime-chan? Those two would be interesting friends."
He mused within his mind, his eyes dancing across the beauty of the golden locket.
However, his thoughts soon were interrupted when there was a knock at the door.
"Come in Sosuke."
The door opened, and Sosuke appeared at the door.
Going inside, the elder brother of Sakuto walked towards him, noticing Sakuto was looking curiously at him.
"Seems like you've had another busy day."
"Aah, that's how it is when dealing with Captain Mayuri, it can be mentally exhausting, and then Captain Kenpachi comes around to make it physically exhausting."
Sosuke suppressed a small smile, as he sat down on the bed, Sakuto sitting up to face him.
"Yes, I can see why that would be exhausting, though it proves to them both they see you as worthy of being against, for those two that's a high compliment." Sakuto thought that probably was true, in a twisted kind of way. "So, I came to see if you're still up for tomorrow."
"Of course, I wouldn't miss it for the world. A chance to duel my big brother, and a Captain at that. Who'd miss that?"
"Yes, for me it is also something I look forward too. Though, I was curious, why did you want to go to the human world?"
Sakuto briefly paused, as he stared at his elder brother.
For a few moments, neither said a thing.
Seeing the kind of eyes Sosuke had, Sakuto answered nonchalantly.
"Well, there's a few reasons really. Besides the fact that they have delicious food, I like new adventures, and seeing new places."
Sosuke pushed up his glasses, and nods in agreement.
"I see. Yes, they do have some interesting food." Sosuke looked towards Sakuto, who in turn continued to smile. "Then, tomorrow."
"See you tomorrow, I can hardly wait~"
Sakuto said with a big smile, as Sosuke made his exit.
As he did, Sosuke looked back towards the room of his brother, and gave a genuine expression of happiness, one that never came around other people, then his eyes focused upon his younger brother, and a curious look passed through his eyes for a brief moment.
Soon enough, Sosuke left the area, while leaving Sakuto alone for the time being, who returned to looking at his necklace, a fond smile appearing...

So this chapter introduced a few more dynamics such as the ones between Sakuto and Nanao, along with Shunsui. Nemu seems very determined, and after some convincing on the part of Mayuri thanks to Sakuto, she will be coming to the human world as well. Soi Fon seems intent on battling Sakuto, though for different reasons than Kenpachi. And Rukia, arriving in the human world, is being followed by something, which we will see what its doing quite soon. It seems Sosuke seems quite happy to have a little duel against Sakuto for his reasons.
Now, it seems that pretty much everyone was for it, so Nemu is going to have a Zanpakuto, a poison type at that with some interesting ways she will use it.
