Jack would never forget his first tree frosting. He had just been born, and the sensation of newness and joy he felt when he lifted his staff for the first time...well…
It was unprecedented.
But it all paled in comparison to the wonder and excitement he felt when he discovered his ability to coat things with a lace spun from the purest ice...just by touching his staff to whatever he chose to poke it. The lace would spring to life, weaving intricate patterns across whatever they touched, coating and decorating the surgace until it glittered.
It made him happy fight down to his core.
"Now I share that with you, my Winter Prince." Jack said with a laugh in his iceblue eyes and a smile on his face. "Your staff can do the frosting just as well as mine….if you let it."
The boy in question scratched his head"But Jack, you can frost things with a touch of your finger. You don't really need your staff. Why don't you just teach me the actual technique instead of the channeling one?"
The Winter Spirit grinned widely, "Because I'm Jack Frost. It's kinda my thing. Your powers aren't as strong as mine, so you have to use your conduit to channel this particular power. Make sense?"
Jamie pouted but gave a nod.
"Good! Now, concentrate….and release when you feel ready!"
"Well...ok. Here goes!"
Jamie closed his eyes and focused hard, willing the frigid energy he commanded to flow into his staff. He waited for it to build up at the end, then he lightly tapped the tree he stood next to, watching closely. He then giggled as a burst of ice shot out, flattening and spreading like a cold, clear wildfire, coating the trunk like a glassy shield.
"That's it! You got it!" Jack hooted happily "With a littlew more practice, you might even weave a few more designs in there, as a personal touch."
Jamie smiled, but then hooked the older spirit with his crook, "You're stalling Jack." he accused, "We have to face them you know. Santa can't afford to be sad at this time of the year. We gotta go to his workshop and cheer him up!"
Jack sighed. The child spirit was right. He'd been avoiding presenting Jamie officially in front of the Guardians, and this aparently was hurting North most of all, since Santa still felt partly responsible for the Last Light's extinguished still didn't understand the Cossack's guilt, as he couldn't have known what was going to happen.
But the man needed closure. The child's wisdom was sound in judgement on that point.
"All right." he sighed "To the Pole then, Jokul Frosti!"
