Em stood in front of the guests facing the apple tree. Henry held Regina's hands. She smiled at her father, it was forced but still she put on a brave face for her father. They walked in hand to the stage. All eyes were on Regina. Her mother Cora stood there crying as she watched her beautiful daughter finally getting married. Ruby nudged Em to look at the bride. But he wasn't much interested. He just kept his eyes glued to the apple tree in front. Regina stood beside Em , both turned their heads to the opposite direction. Soft music played out in the backgroud as the priest started the cremony.
" Do you Emma Swan , take Regina Mills your lawfully wedded wife?" The priest asked facing Em.
Em looked towards Ruby , she nodded her head directing him to say yes. Em composed himself .
"I Emma Swan take Regina Mills as my lawfully wedded wife." He replied
The priest turned to Regina " Do you Regina Mills , take Emma Swan as your lawfully wedded husband ?"
Regina looked at her father. She could see the happiness and hope shining in his eyes. She tooked a deep breath and turned around.
"I Regina Mills, take Daniel..." for a moment everything stopped and Regina winced at the slip of tongue. The next thing she knew was her father collapsing down clamping his hand over chest. She rushed over to her dad apologizing over and over and asking him if he was okay. Cora held Henry trying calm him and he assured her that he is okay as he was gently sat down on one of the benches.
A smile broke out on Em's face as Regina said another name instead of his. It almost felt magical as he was happy that this wedding could be over as it beginned. But it didnt last long. Once Henry was back to normal, the ceremony started again, this time Regina didn't slip.
"I Regina Mills, take Emma Swan as my lawfully wedded husband " She said without a skip.
Em's face went blank again. 'Well I suppose this is how it is '. He thought to himself. Luckily there wasn't a kiss involved as it was an arranged marriage.
The rest of the function was the usual, meeting and greeting the families. food and wine, speeches. Finally it was time for dance. Ruby pushed Em to the dance floor so did Katherine to Regina. Everyone were eagerly waiting for the newly weds. Em looked at Red again as he stood in front of Regina and Regina looked at Katherine. It was as if they needed someone to tell them what to do. As Em held out his hand for Regina, she took it without even looking at his face, and both danced like robots. Smiling every now and then at their families. The night came to an end as guests started leaving the part and only left were the families.
"Well guess we should also leave and let the lovebirds have some privacy. Em can I have a word with you in Private? " Henry said to Em.
"Yea sure, sir ." He replied even though it dreaded him.
Henry walked them to the balcony. " Its beautiful isn't it? The night I mean ." He started.
"Umm.. yeah it is " Em replied uneasy.
"Regina is very dear to me. She is my best and I love her more than anything in this world. I wanted the best for her, that's why when I saw you at your granfather's funeral decided that there won't be anyone else I could trust other than my mentor's grandson" Henry continued " Your grandfather wasn't just a teacher to me, whatever I am today its because of him. I owe this to him and I ask for nothing more than my daughter's happiness. I hope you understand that " He looked at Em hoping that he conveyed the message.
"Ofcourse Sir, I understand. I wouldn't have it another way " Those words felt so wrong to Em as it came out of his mouth. He pretty much know what will happen but Mr. Mills doesn't have to know that now.
"Thank you Em, now I can rest my mind at peace" Henry pat on Em's shoulder lightly and retreated back to the mansion. Em stood there watching over the night sky. The gold ring in his finger felt like it was buring. He looked at it for a brief moment and curled his hand to a fist showing it in his pocket. Teeths clenched he walked back joining others.
Once everyone left, Regina walked upstairs to their bedroom to get ready for the bed. Em on the other hand kept wandering the mansion trying to find the liquor cabinet. Atlast he found in the study upstairs. All the day's frustration was gone as he gulped down a bottle of whiskey. Regina on the other hand freshened up and put on her nightware. She slipped under the covers quietly, events from the day playing in her head. Tears rolled down her eyes as she sobbed uncontrollably. At somepoint she drained out and fell asleep.
