(In the human's world…)

"Oh, come on" said Rex, while he checked his cell phone while he was playing the famous game: Pokemon Go, "I thought I caught it this time, but it got away"

This 11-year-old boy was almost like the others. First of all, he was adopted, nothing was ever heard from his real parents, except that they had left him a necklace with a fang and his name on it as an amulet. It was as if… they had vanished into thin air. Second, he had been an animal lover since he was a child, almost as if he could understand them. And third, he was a huge Pokemon fan; not by the powers of it, but by the diversity of it.

"Well, I guess I can spend a while waiting for him to show up again" he thought as he walked in circles.

As he walked, something appeared on his radar: some kind of card with the symbol of a Pokeball. Rex looked at this very carefully, when trying to open it, the letter moved to the north, as if escaping from being pressed. In order to reach it, Rex took a few steps, but then, trying again, the letter moved slightly to the northwest.

"Is it me or is it trying to take me somewhere?" he thought. Usually, a person would not go along with something like that, as he would think it was a trap. However, Rex felt as if a tingle ran through his body, as if something was pointing the way to something even more amazing. Not realizing what he was doing, he followed the indicated path.

Once the signal of the letter had stopped, he realized that he was in some kind of small park. Rex remembered that they had told him that a new park was about to open. But it seemed that it had not opened yet: to one side he could see a few bricks, a shovel and some powdered cement. Beyond, a fairly large tree with a tire swing. Other than that, the place was so deserted, there was no one in sight.

"Well, I think I'll be able to read the message now" Rex thought and clicked on the letter icon. This one said:

"Congratulations, you are about to receive a special Pokemon mission, wait a moment for the arrival of your partners, to receive your signature Pokemon"

"How weird," he thought, "Like 'partners' and 'signature Pokemon'?"

Before thinking further, a sound was heard from behind him. There was another guy, one in a blue shirt, who had his cell phone in his hand.

"Hello," the boy said, "my name is Dylan. Hey, did you send this message?"

"No, I got one too" said Rex, "By the way, my name is Rex"

"Nice to meet you," Dylan shook his hand, "But if you didn't send the message, who did he?"

Before they could say another word, a girl appeared from the side, wearing a blouse patterned with some flowers.

"Wow, I thought I was the only one who got that weird message" she said, "Hi everyone, my name is Rose"

"Hello" greeted both boys.

"Did you also get the message?" said another girl, who was wearing a light-purple shirt, "Oh, excuse my manners, my name is Mina"

"It seems that more than one got the message" said another boy, one who wore a T-shirt with a drawing of lightning, "Hello, my name is Zack"

"Wow, so many people gathered here for just one message?" Dylan said.

"I think it might be a kid-stealer trap," Rose said, "We might go to our houses."

"I agree," Rex said, "We don't know if this could be..."

At that moment, another boy fell from a tree. They were all startled, but they quickly helped him.

"Thank you, I was watching the birds while waiting for the author of this message" the boy said as he picked up his cell phone with the same message included, "By the way, my name is Luke"

"Okay, this is weird: six kids brought together by a message from a special Pokemon mission?" Zack asked, "what does this all mean?"

At that moment, a new message came out on his cell phone. As soon as they touched to open it, the camera automatically shot up and took a selfie photo of them. Everyone were more confused with it.

"This is really weird!" Mina exclaimed, "Why did our cameras trigger themselves?"

"Surely it's the work of a hacker or…" Dylan said.

Then, the cell phone message was revealed. It said:

"Well, you have accepted a journey that could save two worlds. They will need to work as a team, but they will also have to find themselves on this journey. Your inner Pokemon is…"

Rex watched until the last part, and then he was shown a 3D image of a Charmander, a very dear Pokemon to him, as it had always caught his attention.

"Did you get a Charmander?" Dylan asked, "Look at this."

Rex looked at Dylan's cell phone. On it, the image of a Froakie was displayed.

"How strange, I got a Chikorita" Rose said, showing her image, "What did you get?"

"Shinx" Zack said.

"Pidove" Luke said.

"Nidoran" Mina said, "A female"

Before anyone could say anything, all the cell phones flashed, blinding them with incredible brilliance. At the same time, they changed shape. And eventually, they turned into red, blue, green, yellow, light blue, and magenta devices. The boys watched in great amazement at that event.

"Wow, that was great," Rex said, looking at the device in his hands.

"What are these?" Mina asked, "How…?"

And again, before he said another word, the devices glowed again; but this time, they all moved, pointing at each other. The brightness this time was so strong that it covered a large amount of area, perhaps all that surrounded them.

For the children it was something very strange, because they no longer felt that they were stepping on the earth, but rather they felt that they were falling into an endless void, one surrounded by a great celestial space. They were all very scared, and covered their eyes.

Rex woke up after a few minutes, his head still spinning, the experience as intense as riding a roller coaster (one of the extreme ones). As he tried to open his eyes, he realized that he was having a hard time moving, his body didn't seem to be responding very well.

Something felt…different, like something really weird had happened to him. When he was finally able to get up, he looked around: he was in a kind of wooden house very beautifully decorated with flowers and other ornaments. On one side of one wall, there was a full-size mirror. To the other, a large collection of books on shelves.

When he looked at the floor, he couldn't believe what he saw: on it were six straw beds placed as beds. However, what impressed him most was that a different creature had slept in each one of them; and, thanks to him remembering the game, he could swear that each one of them was Pokemon: A Froakie, a Chikorita, a Nidoran, a Pidove and a Shinx respectively.

Rex wasn't scared at first, but rather he felt like something was missing there. Looking at what he was lying on, he realized that he himself was lying on a sixth bed. That made him think… and examine himself.

He looked down at his arms, which were covered in orange scales; his hands ended in about four small claws. Regarding his legs, he saw that they were covered in the same color scales and the feet ended in three toes with regularly large white claws. Even more puzzled, he felt something behind him. Turning, he saw that there was something glowing behind him: it had a tail with a flaming tip. Although frightened, the tail gave no sign of burning, but rather, he felt so placid that it seemed as if he had been born with it.

Unsteadily, he approached the mirror and a Charmander stared back at him. His face was covered in scales, his mouth was fanged, and his eyes were blue. But they weren't someone else's eyes, they were his own. He still wore the fang that was his amulet.

"Wow, you're awake," said a voice behind him. Turning around, he saw something he didn't expect to see: a Pokemon that spoke to him, more specifically, a Kangaskan. However, he quickly remembered something: he was now a Pokemon and, therefore, he could understand language.

"Are you okay?" she spoke to him. The words brought Rex back to his current situation.

"Yeah, I feel fine," Rex replied.

"Ugh, what a relief. You and your friends were lying unconscious in the meadow, we moved you here to my house so you could stay."

"My friends?" Rex thought. At that moment, a memory came back to him: everyone gathered by the message had received a 'signature Pokemon' and, if he had turned into the Charmander it meant that... the others had turned too.

"In summary" he thought again, "If I am Charmander... Dylan is the Froakie, Rose is the Chikorita, Luke is the Pidove, Mina is the Nidoran and Zack is the Shinx"

"Something happens?" asked the Kangaskan, "Are you looking for this perhaps?

The Pokemon pointed to some colored objects on a table.

"Our cell phones!" Rex said, moving closer to get a better look at them.

"They were lying one on each side of where you were" said the Kangaskan.

But they weren't like the cell phones he remembered: now they had a new shape, and they had different colors... his was now orange like his, how did he know it was his? something told him, but he couldn't explain what.

"Thank you very much" said Rex, "My name is Rex and thank you very much for helping us"

"You are welcome" she replied with a big smile, "We are always willing to take care of the little ones. They call me Aunt Kangaskan, but you can call me Kandia. Where are you coming from? It's very rare to see so many different species and types of Pokemon together in one place."

"Well, you'll see…"

Before he could explain everything, he heard several moans: the typical moans of someone when someone gets up. Turning, he saw that the others were about to get up.

"Oh no... this will be hard to explain" he said to himself.
