A/N: There will probably be a greater time between updates. Why? I am re-watching and re-watching episodes and copying some dialogue from transcripts of the covered episodes. BTW, dialogue in italics is from the episode transcript.
4 Days Later
After spending the night together and making love, they had parted and agreed to abide by their rules. Not that either woman was particularly happy about their rules, but were willing to try. As such, they hadn't seen each other since they parted the morning after. They had spoken on the phone, mainly about work and for Maura to politely decline an invitation to Sunday dinner.

Rizzoli House
Jane was currently trying to stop the blood coming from her nose as her mother was chastising both her and Frankie for playing too rough. As Jane finished returning the call to Frost, she was almost out the door when her mother's words stopped her: "Jane, tell Maura I expect her to come next Sunday. No argument." Jane nodded and headed for the crime scene, unaware of what was waiting on her.
Crime Scene
Jane overheard Crowe disparaging Maura as she came upon the crime scene and shut him up with a look. As she made her way into the scene, she saw Maura for the first time in four days, and even examining a dead body, Jane thought she was beautiful.
Maura knew the moment Jane arrived. She'd know the detective's footsteps anywhere, and steeled herself before looking at her. She drank in the sight of Jane before realizing her...whatever Jane was, had a hairline fracture of her nose. After she popped it out, both women were horrified when they realized this might be the work of Hoyt.
Maura wanted to go with Jane, to be with her, but knew she, like Jane, had a job to do. Before she could give it anymore thought, FBI agent Gabriel Dean was introducing himself to both of them. Maura thought he was attractive enough and playfully made eyes at Jane regarding him.
For her part, Jane didn't like the way Maura was acting around this agent Dean, and she didn't like the way he was looking at Maura. The little voice in her head reminded her it was her own fault that Maura was currently unclaimed. She left the crime scene, knowing she had to go see Hoyt in prison.
Maura was upset when she realized Jane had gone to see Hoyt and once again, she wished she was by Jane's side. She could only dig back into an autopsy and wait for Jane to reappear. It was late when Jane got back and she had grabbed a can of tuna and crackers snack for herself and Maura. She was looking forward to spending some time with the doctor, uninterrupted. That did not happen as agent Dean appeared with news of Hoyt's escape.
Jane insisted on seeing Maura home and searched the house before leaving. She had called Korsak to arrange for a police car to sit in front of Maura's all night. Finally home and having pushed Frankie and Frost out the door, she decided to vacuum. She found the process of going back and forth calming.
After her mother descended upon her apartment, Jane decided to go to Maura's. She knew it would serve two purposes: she could keep Maura safe, and it would be the only way she would get any sleep. When Maura opened the door, Jane thought she looked stunning and wondered, not for the first time, how this woman was hers. In a manner of speaking.
After meeting Maura's tortoise Bass, the doctor asked Jane if she wanted to sleep with her or in the guest room. Jane opted for the guest room because she didn't want to put Maura in danger by being near her. Before they moved out of the kitchen, Jane went into every room of the house checking closets, doors and windows to make sure they were alone, locked in and safe.
As she spied on Maura from behind the door, her blood began to boil as she saw agent Dean at Maura's doorstep. She found him attractive, but she did not like the way he was popping up at all the wrong times and places. And she thought he appreciated Maura a little too much and she seemed a little too into his attention. Or so she thought. Then again, she realized she would be jealous if Maura had shown attention to a corpse. And she didn't quite know what to do with that. Hearing Maura approaching, she jumped on the bed and was mildly surprised when Maura came in and stretched out next to her on the bed.
Are we having a sleepover... or is this your way of telling me you're attracted to me?
Maura, putting her arm behind her head, contemplated how she wanted to answer Jane, but before she could answer, Jane forged ahead.
So it was Dean you were expecting.
He wanted my opinion on another case.
What case?
I can't say.
Fine. Go sleep in your own room.
Oh, Jane.
You ever like the same guy as your best friend?
No.
Did you ever have a best friend?
No.
You'd tell me if you were a cyborg, right?
No, I don't think I would.
Ha-ha-ha.
I'm not seeing him.
Yet.
Well, somebody should, don't you think?
Yup.
Should we draw straws?
Couldn't we just show him our tits and let him decide?
Before Maura could answer, Bass huffed, startling Jane.
No, it's okay. It's just Bass. Really, it's okay.
I've never been so scared in all my life.
Maura turned onto her side, away from Jane, and asked, "Will you hold me tonight? I don't think we need a sleepover or an attraction tonight, do you?"
Jane wrapped her arms around Maura and whispered, "No, we don't need to make love or have wild sex tonight."
Jane was grateful to Maura for knowing exactly what she did and did not need. And wrapped around Maura, she managed to get a couple of hours of sleep. Maura, acutely aware of Jane, got only slightly more sleep than Jane.

36 Hours Later
Afraid Hoyt had Maura and had forced her to call about a break-in at her apartment, she had sped all the way home. As she parked and started for her apartment building, her name was called by a man dressed as a coroner. Jane's anxiety went up as she approached the van, thinking it was her neighbor.
As she got into the van, she felt a prick in her neck as she saw the face of Charles Hoyt. The next time she awoke, the face of Hoyt was staring down at her. She reach for her gun, only to realize Hoyt had it and was smiling at her.
"Jane, so good to see you. Your apartment is nice, homey."He leaned down and whispered, "Such a nice collection of toys you and the good doctor...play with." He left the van to go find Stark, leaving Jane alone.
Jane Rizzoli had just about had it with Charles Hoyt. Mentioning Maura had been the final straw. Jane tried to find something, anything, that she could use as a weapon, finding a flare. She finally got it lit as she heard Hoyt coming back to the van.
She could feel the heat from the flare burning her skin, but remembered this man had tried to kill her, had plans to hurt Maura, so she gritted her teeth and waited. As soon as Hoyt leaned over her to see why smoke was coming from Jane, she attacked him with the flare, and the taser, causing him to fall out of the van with burns to his face.
Jane scrambled to get the taser and get it to recharge before Stark got back to them. As soon as Stark got close enough, Jane used the taser on the back of his leg, causing him to drop the gun. She got to it just in time and fired two shots, hitting him both times.
Turning her attention back to Hoyt, she put her foot on his hands and pulled the trigger.
"Now we match."
Agent Dean arrived and checked on her, noting she had suffered second degree burns, and asking if she wanted to get dinner. All she wanted was to get to Maura and hold her.
Once inside her apartment, the emotion of the last few days finally caught up with her. She sank to the floor and hung her head, thinking about how wrecked her home was. She felt tears threatening and was just about to give in when she heard the tiny clicking of toenails against the hardwood. Her new dog, Jo Friday, scampered in and jumped on the couch, followed by Maura.
"Jane?" Maura could tell Jane was on the verge of losing it and knelt beside her, attempting to take her in her arms. Jane jerked away. Maura, afraid she had overstepped, recoiled.
Jane reached for her. "No! It's ok Maura. I just have a couple of second degree burns."
Maura shifted back into doctor mode and began trying to examine Jane. "Jane, where? Show me."
Jane lifted her shirt and winced as Maura carefully removed the bandage on her lower rib cage. Maura gloved up before poking around at the burns. "You're coming home with me. I can't trust you to take care of these."
Jane asked, "A sleepover or an attraction?"
Maura stood on her tiptoes and placed a brief kiss on Jane's lips. "Neither. I want...need, to take care of you. Please."
Jane nodded. "Ok, but can we grab a drink first?"

Maura's House
Maura had helped Jane bathe and wash her hair, and then gave her sweat pants and t-shirt. "Glad I still have some stuff here." Maura helped her into bed and then slid in next to her.
Linking her fingers with Jane's, both women stared at the ceiling. "Why did you shoot his hands?"
"So we'd match."
Maura chuckled. "The real reason?"
"It was either that or blow his head off in cold blood."
Maura turned her head to look at Jane. "Ok." She turned so she was facing Jane. "I'm glad I didn't know he had you." Jo Friday jumped up on the bed and settled between the two women. Maura rubbed her head and played with her ear. Jane watched her and relaxed for the first time since the case started. "Thank you for letting me take care of you. I needed this."
"Me too. I love you."
"I love you too, Jane. And I wish you'd blown his head off."
