ΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩ
Somewhere in the vastness of the universe, a large globe was floating. It was too small to be a star, but big enough to contain something that looked like a giant corpse. The body could easily 10 feet long, and the only thing that differentiated it from a dead body except his height, were his two bright, open eyes. Their color were something totally out of this world, they were totally golden, n iris or pupils, only two mini suns burning on his face.
The figure looked deep in his thoughts, he did not move at all from his seemingly highly restrictive prison but if one was close enough, he could feel an aura radiating from the golden globe. It was an oppressive aura, one that felt as if the figure was thinking hard, no one in a certain radius would be able to make a single noise at the risk of disturbing the figure. It felt as if disturbing him could lead to a disaster. The air, or rather the lack of it in the middle of space, felt heavy and the brightness of the globe dimmed considerably.
As I thought that piece of foreign soul is a real problem. It's better to get rid of it quickly. Chaos was observing the Headmaster accompany Harry Potter and Ron Weasley to his office. Chaos was not fooled by the calm expression worn by Dumbledore, during his imprisonment the one thing he did the most was to observe and analyze people, and while he did it merely to pass time, he was sure no one could do it better than himself because no one did it as much as him.
"Ah that's quite the bothersome situation we're in right now." He said out loud. "What should I do? My actions are quite restricted, helping him from here is hard but not impossible I guess, I won't be able to contact him for some time after that."
He thought for some time, and came to a decision after Albus Dumbledore said the name Tom.
ΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩ
"Professor? What do you mean Tom?" Harry was quite disturbed by what Dumbledore just called him. Tom, the same name as Voldemort, it reminded him of his second year, the horrendous diary, and the Basilisk. Plus, the tone Dumbledore was using was one he never heard before, his voice sounded cold, the air around him felt heavy and there were no twinkle in his eyes anymore.
No answers came at first, the headmaster was looking at him with his two cold blue eyes, they were so different from usual. During the heavy silence, Harry felt something in the back of his mind, like a tugging.
"Hello kiddo! Listen to me, we don't have time for any interruptions." The voice of Chaos started reasoning in Harry's head. It startled him so much that he almost gasped audibly but held back at the last second.
"Okay, you're now in a dire situation, I can't exactly explain it to you but for some reason your Headmaster seems to think that you are your archenemy. It could lead to some real issue so do exactly what I say. First I need to warn you, talking to you while you're awaken take a lot from me, so I won't be able to contact you for some times. I'm not really sure how much time exactly, it could a week or three months so you will have to continue your training by yourself, perfect your silent casting and try to feel your magic like Merlin, it will help you to use magic without wand. I don't except you to do it, but in case my absence last too long, you will know in what direction go in your training." That was a lot to take in, and Harry wanted to answer him and ask him even more question, but his good sense held him back, he knew it was necessary. He has only known him for a few weeks, but Chaos was someone he needed, he was the one helping him becoming better.
"Now to the point, to convince him you're not who he thinks you are you need a couple of things. First you need to call his bird, the phoenix. But you need to do it naturally, as if u saw him behind your headmaster, so you don't rise his suspicion of you trying to defend yourself, because remember, you're not supposed to know what this is about, except if you're guilty of course. Phoenixes are Light creatures, so it reacts badly to Dark things. Dumbledore is not stupid, if he sees his pet not being aggressive towards you, he will lower his guard a little. But that's not all, you will need another thing to prove your innocence to him, the hat. You need to put the hat on your head and ask him to talk in your favor." Harry immediately wanted to ask about his memory, it could play to his disadvantage if he saw Harry talking with a mysterious figure. "Don't worry about the memories about me, no one could possibly think about viewing them not even that hat. Just don't be obvious about the hat, try to act clueless and after he lower his guard after the phoenix apparition you can talk about the hat. Don' worry about the phoenix not coming to you at the right timing, I have it covered, he will come when you call his name. I think that's it, after that Dumbledore suspicions should be cleared, see you in a few I guess, don't neglect your training, I will know. I may not be able to contact you, but I will see you. And before I forget, do not look him in the eyes before the suspicions are lifted."
And just like that, the contact severed. Harry knew it did because the feeling in his mind disappeared.
"You will not fool me Tom, what happened to young Harry?" Dumbledore's voice sounded like a sharp razor ready to cut him into pieces.
Harry needed to act cluelessly, he decided to look into the air behind Dumbledore's head, so he will not have to lock eyes with him.
"Professor, I don't understand. What …" Harry marked a pause, acting surprised. "Fawkes? Wow, you really look different, in a good way."
A slight pop sound was heard at the moment the phoenix's name was uttered, and he appeared at the exact spot Harry was looking at. Fawkes flew in his direction, passing near the head of Dumbledore, and landed on Harry's shoulder. Harry was surprised, he looked at the mythical creature in wonder, but Fawkes has his gaze directed toward the Headmaster curiously, ensued a silence where they looked at the other in the eyes. It lasted for a minute before Dumbledore sighed and put away his wand. Wait a minute, HIS WAND? When did he draw it? A cold shiver traversed Harry's body, Dumbledore had his wand pointed at him, it was something he never thought would happen, his hero, the person he looked up to had just menaced him with his wand, not a fun experience to live. Harry decided to continue acting clueless.
"What do you mean saying something happened to me Professor? And did you just call me Tom? As in Tom Riddle? Professor what's happening? It's me Harry."
Suddenly Fawkes trilled and started flew off towards the back of the office, both wizard followed him with their eyes. The phoenix grabbed something, and came back, it looked like a rag, a big one. While flying Fawkes dropped it on Harry's head and a look of comprehension passed in the Headmaster eyes.
"Good idea old friend." He murmured stroking his beard. "Hat, con you please tell me on whose head are you right now, I hope you understand that it is of the utmost importance." He continued louder this time.
So, it was the Hat, Harry did not have to find a subtle way to introduce it into the conversation. What a relief.
"Hmm, interesting, that's the first time I'm used like that, not that I hate it though, I'm quite bored lately, not much to do as a hat I guess." The old voice of the Hat answered Dumbledore. "Well, it's the same person I talked to in your office two years ago, the same one I gave the Gryffindor's sword, Harry Potter, that's the one. Now if you would excuse me, I really want to go back to my peaceful and boring existence. You learn to love it with time."
Fawkes appeared once more above his head took the Hat and put it back in its place.
Well, not quite the process Chaos' wanted but it ended well I guess. Harry thought, he dared not looking into Dumbledore's eyes.
"Professor, what was all that about, why did you think I was someone else? Tell me Professor, did I do something wrong?"
The headmaster seemed deep in thoughts, stroking his long beard, not looking at him. It lasted for a few more minutes before he sighed and looked back at him, his eyes different from before, they looked sad, and a trace of a twinkle could be perceived but it was covered by the guilt and sadness.
"Forgive the foolishness of an old man Harry, I have been blinded by my past mistakes. Today I saw you do something amazing for your age, dangerous and violent of course, but still amazing, in addition to that your angry state led me to think the worse was happening."
"What do you mean the worse?" Harry was genuinely curious, Chaos told him he was mistaken for Voldemort, but he did not go further, and now it was bothering him. "Why did you call me Tom?"
"I am afraid as I said I was too blinded by my past mistakes. Do you remember Tom's diary?"
Harry nodded.
"So, you must remember what it did, right? It took possession of young Ginevra Weasley and made her make horrible deeds. I took your angry state and your amazing magical feat as something caused by a similar magical artifact. I am sorry, it sounds like I do not believe you capable of doing it, or even be angry. In my foolishness I forgot anger was not a trait specific to only Voldemort, and that teenagers too feel it. I have to say that I was scared, and ironically, angry. I was scared the artifact totally took the control of you and killed you, and it angered me so much I could not think of something else. Again, I ask for your forgiveness, I acted out of emotion, and I let myself overwhelmed."
That was a lot to take in, but something was weird in what Dumbledore just said.
"Wait a minute, you mean to say that other things like the diary exists?"
Harry was terrified by that fact, the last time an object form Voldemort was found, he nearly died against a Basilisk. So, he had the right to be scared.
"It is not impossible, I only thought about that hypothesis when I saw you today, so I cannot be too sure. You have to understand that an artifact of that kind is not something easy to make, even for a wizard like Voldemort."
"Professor, you seem to know what was sort of thing the diary was, could you enlighten me? If it concerns Voldemort, it concerns me too, I think I need to know."
At that, Professor Dumbledore's face became wearier, as if he just took fifty more years and he sighed deeply, something he did a lot today, sat down and motioned a chair for Harry to sit.
"I have a lot of conjectures, none of them are more plausible than another, and while discussing about the darkest kind of magic with you could be entertaining, I think it would be better for us to rest after all that agitation."
Harry was ready to object but Dumbledore held his hand up.
"I know it must be frustrating but please bear with it for some times, at least until I narrow the conjecture to a few less." Dumbledore continued. "On a lighter note, know that no punishments will be given, please inform young Ronald, he seemed quite agitated. Maybe the Howler from his mother in second year made him realize he did not want to be in the same situation again."
Dumbledore stood up and with a wave of his wand opened the door and waited for Harry to leave the room. However, the fourth year was not so inclined to do so, he kept his gaze on his Professor's face, as if he waited for him to think again about his decision, and tell him about Voldemort's dark stuff. Finally, Harry let out a deep sigh and left the room and went out.
He was so deep in thoughts that he could not avoid bumping into someone who apparently was just standing up in front of the gargoyle. He fell on his butt and at the same time his glasses fell off on the ground. He heard a moan from the person he just ran into, a girlish one he was sure it was someone he knew but he could not be so sure because he saw next to nothing without his glasses.
"Ouch, that hurts! Can't you be more careful when walking?" The girl said. Yeah I definitely know that voice, just who—
"Oh, Harry it's you? I'm sorry I was so worried about you that I wasn't careful enough, here your glasses" She handed him his glasses and helped him up.
What a change from before she recognized me, she almost eat me alive and now she apologize. Harry did not min though, it was quite funny to hear actually. He had now realized who it was, even before he put on his glasses.
"Hello Astoria, to what do I owe this pleasure?" He put his glasses on, and indeed a little dark-haired girl was looking at him with her two big blue eyes.
She fidgeted on the spot, balancing herself from one foot to the other.
"I wanted to know if you were alright, Dumbledore didn't punish you, did he? It's not your fault if that idiot can't stay on his foot, you were just at the wrong place at the wrong time. Now that I think of it, it's pretty recurrent for you to be in such place." She smirked.
Harry could not help but smile in turn, he found her smile really infectious.
"Yeah no worries, he just wanted to know our side of the story since the professors were quite far when it happened, so no big deal." He did not want anyone except Chaos to know what just happened and especially not someone he did not know that much, no matter how much he liked her.
"Soooo..." She began suspiciously. "Since Quidditch is canceled this year, would you mind going to fly right now? No time like the present, don't you agree?"
He looked at her dubiously, while he did not mind, that was the first time he saw someone, besides Wood, so willing to fly. He had no other lessons, at first he just wanted to rest a little and then practice his nonverbal casting, but he really missed the feeling of freedom he got when in the air.
"Why not, let me just go fetch my broom, you can wait me on pitch I'll meet you there."
She almost flattened herself on the ground while running towards the stairs, a giant smile on her face.
ΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩ
Finally arriving in front of the Fat Lady, he told her the password and when he entered the Common Room, a crowd off what seemed to be the whole Gryffindor house were looking at him. A moment of silence passed, and everyone broke into cheers.
Two arms made their way on his shoulders, it was the twins. They had a look of reverence on their face.
"O Dark Lord Potter, tell us your secrets, us plebeians need to know how you did that. We feel the need to learn how to take care of such riffraff, isn't that right guys?" They asked loudly to the crowd who immediately answered by a loud cheering.
Harry was uncomfortable though, not because of the twins' antics he was now accustomed to it. However, he always had an issue with the attention, he really did not like it. The twins seemed to catch on quite fast because they escorted him subtly into his dorm, luckily it was empty, so he took his Map, his Invisibility Cloak and his broom and got out of the room. Thanks to them, no one bothered him along the way, it was still bothersome to move with the cloak on without bumping into anyone, but he had experience doing it, so it was okay.
The first thing he saw on the pitch, or in this case person, was Astoria waving at him. He of course had taken of the cloak in the meantime, else it would be weird. The second person he saw, was sitting on the stands, a girl reading a book. At first Harry thought it was Hermione, but after a closer inspection it was not. Hermione was not blonde, and was definitely not in Slytherin.
"Harry, finally you're here, I almost thought you had forgotten about me." Astoria said when he arrived in front of her. It seemed like she made a detour through the dungeons, indeed she was wearing muggles' sportswear and if he was not mistaken she also brought her sister with her.
"Sorry, there was quite the commotion in our Common Room, but it's okay now." He looked in the direction of who he thought was Daphne. "It looks like you also made a stop into your Common Room, right?"
Astoria looked towards her sister, smirked and the looked at herself.
"Yeah, Mom bought me that for when I do exercise at home." She the glanced at her sister. "And that, well it looked lost on the way so I took pity on it and brought it with me, maybe I shouldn't have. "
As if she had just heard what they just said, Daphne looked up from her book and stared rather hard at them both, maybe trying to curse them with her glare. At least it was what it looked like from afar.
ΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩ
"Wow, that was AMAZING, even better than the last year's hippogriffs, even though I didn't ride them." Astoria was exclaimed the second she had her feet on the ground. "I heard you did though, how was it?"
Harry was honestly surprised, for two reasons. The first was that she could fly really well, it was hard to think that she did not do it a usually, the second was her train of thoughts. It amazed him how she was able to switch subjects as if it was nothing, just like now. She was talking about her flying and now was asking about Buckbeak. It was really an amusing sight, one could almost see the wheels turning in her head.
"Oh, yes it was great, different from a broom I guess but still great."
"Nice description I guess." She laughed. "A shame that he had to be executed though, Draco is such a baby sometimes."
Harry noted the use of the name. Must be because they're in the same house, there is no way Malfoy can have a friend like that.
"That's Malfoy, what did you except?" A voice interrupted them from behind.
Daphne was walking towards them, her book still in her hand. She did not look as cold as she was before they flew It was a good news, because honestly, Harry did not know how to behave around her, she intimated him. He might have faced a Dark Lord, a Basilisk, a werewolf, and soul sucker monsters, no one of them had a glare like Daphne. She could be terrifying, and he did not even know her for a long time yet.
"Hi Daffy." The use of the moniker made Daphne glare, but Astoria did not seem to mind that much, quite a feat in itself. "Here to ruin the fun?"
Another glare followed by a glance in Harry's direction.
"Am I?" She said still looking at Harry.
It made him nervous, he did not know who she was talking too, him Astoria or even herself. Plus, her gaze was unsettling, he was used people looking at him and his scare. However, she, he realized, did not look at it since their first encounter at the World Cup, not even once.
"Ugh.. No?" Was all he could muster in his flustered state.
At that, something weird happened. Daphne turned to her sister and smirked at her. SHE CAN SMILE? Maybe he was overacting, and it may be linked to the fact that when she smiled, his heart missed a beat, but who cares anyway.
"Umph… Okay Harry it was fun but now I have to go back."
The moment she was done speaking, she started running towards the castle, leaving her sister and Harry dumbfounded, still not understanding what just happened. After a minute of awkward silence, Harry decided it was time for him to return to his dorm, he was quite tired after all what happened today.
"Well then, I have to go too." He said awkwardly. Not waiting for an answer, he started walking towards the castle just like Astoria did before, slowly though.
"Do you hate me?" After not even five steps, Daphne asked him in a low voice. It was not far from a murmur, but he still heard it. The voice was not the voice she used before, her tone seemed shy and pleading, as if she the possibility that he could hate her was the worst thing in the world.
That voice made him freeze, it was the opposite of the portrait of her he had in mind, she was supposed to be the strong cold female figure.
"Me? Hate you? Why—" He started.
But before he could elaborate, a cold façade was erected on Daphne's face, she raised her nose and started walking quickly towards the castle, just like he was trying to do before, a lot faster though.
What the… He thought as she passed him. What in the world just happened, did I imagine it? Why the weirds things must happen to me. Fate, please go find another victim, I have had enough.
A few months later, Harry will think about the words he just said, and he will laugh. Laugh a lot, he will laugh so much that tears will come out of his eyes. Were they tears of joy or sadness? Why chose when it can be both.
ΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩ
That night, Harry almost forgot to train his meditation, his head was full of what happened in only one day. When he came back to the common room, he talked for a while with his two best friends about his talk with Dumbledore. He had to lie to them, he told them he just said the same thing as Ron and Dumbledore trusted him. Fortunately, that commotion seemed to made Hermione forget about her suspicions towards him and a certain Slytherin girl.
Slytherin girl that would haunt Harry for the next few days, he still could not understand what happened and why.
When he finally sat on his bed to meditate, he felt something weird inside him. It felt as if some cold liquid coming from his navel flowed through his whole body, it made him shivers. Eyes still closed, he tried to not lose his concentration and kept his meditation state he could still feel the cold exploring his body and lingering in some parts, especially his fingers and his leg.
That has to be my magic. He thought excited. How is that possible, how can I already feel it? It must have a link with what happened this morning, I should ask Chaos if— And then he remembered, Chaos could not answer him for a while, that was a problem, his learning will be paused.
Don't think like that, I just have to use a trial error method and see how it works, most genius learn by themselves anyway. I'm not saying that I am I genius, I have the library to help me.
Harry finally opened his eyes and was curious about the part of his body that contained more magic, first he looked at his fingers but found nothing. Then he examined his leg, and it was the same result.
He sighed and took his wand of out his pocket and put it on his night table.
Wait a minute… Of course, it came from my wand! How could I not notice that, am I that stupid?
Harry started smiling, and unbeknownst to him, millions of miles away, watching him from his golden prison, Chaos smiled to.
