Harry let out a frustrated growl and was about ready to bang his head against his desk. He really hated Mondays. It was only half past eleven and he was ready to burn every report on his desk. Somehow over the weekend the new magic compatible computer system they had installed had went wonky mixing all the report information together and now Harry was forced to manually sort and re-enter all nine reports. If he had known the chaos he was walking into today, he would have just called in sick and stayed home all-day playing dragons with Teddy. Of course, all on shift agents were out in the field and he was stuck by himself sorting through the mess.
"My my Potter, seems like much hasn't changed since school. Your desk looks like you and the stack of papers got into a fight, and they won."
Harry looked up instantly. He could recognize that drawl anywhere. "Malfoy?" Harry asked surprised. He hadn't seen the man up close in almost two years. After speaking at Malfoy's trial, getting him cleared of all charges, Malfoy had stopped only briefly to thank him and disappeared into the crowd from there.
The day of the trial took place only a week after the final battle. The ministry had been in a rush to put away captured and known death eaters. They wanted the community to begin to feel safe again and have some trust earned back within the Ministry. The day of the trial, Malfoy had looked nothing like his usual stuck-up self. Dressed in Azkaban robes, hands and feet shackled, and his head slumped forward as he stood in front of the Wizengamot awaiting his fate. Malfoy's platinum hair was caked in dirt and his pale skin that was exposed was colored in healing bruises. Harry had tried not to focus on him as he spoke in his favor. Once the man had been cleared, he had shaken Harry's hand and tore from the court room without a glance back.
Now, standing before him was the man he remembered from school. Time had certainly been kind to Malfoy.
Malfoy was dressed in what could only be described as casual for him. Grey trousers, clearly tailored to fit his legs perfectly, and a white button up shirt with a grey jumper over top.
"I can see the position wasn't wasted on you Potter. As sharp as ever." Malfoy was leaning against the doorway looking smug, one elegant eyebrow risen in silent question.
"Ha-Ha. Why are you darkening my office with your sparkling warm personality?" Harry asked shifting the papers on his desk around suddenly feeling like Malfoy was silently judging him. "I am sure you didn't come here to comment on my organization skills."
"I didn't come here to see you at all Potter, don't flatter yourself. I was asked to meet-"
"Hello Draco. Hiya Harry. I hope you didn't mind me sending Draco here. Your office is much easier to find than mine." Luna smiled between the two boys. Luna while still working part time with her dad for the Quibbler had taken a job at the Ministry in the Magical Creatures Department helping discover and categorize new magical creatures. "Draco is helping me with a small project I have at the moment. He is quite talented in his work." Luna smiled at Draco offering her arm to him. "Did you want to take a break and come to lunch with us? It could give time for the nargles to leave your office. They seem to be bothering you more than usual."
Harry watched as Malfoy put his arm through Luna's and shot a warning look at him, a silent threat that he better not join them. "Oh- well- Thank you Luna. As fun as that sounds, I unfortunately have a ton of paperwork to get through before I can head home today." Harry wasn't quite sure what was happening right now. "The computer system went down and I have to manually file all of these." He gestured to the wild mess on his desk.
"Well, Draco and I will bring you something back. You can't go all day with out eating." Luna smiled warmly at him.
Was Harry losing his mind? Was Luna about to voluntarily go out on a lunch date with thee Draco Malfoy? How close were they that she used his first name? Maybe he was still in his bed dreaming.
"Come on Luna. I made us reservations at that little Italian place I like." Malfoy started leading Luna out of Harrys office. "See you later Potter."
Harry watched them leave and felt even more confused. He dug through the mess on his desk and found his mobile.
Harry: I think I am literally losing my mind Gin. You will never guess who I just saw going to have lunch with Luna! Also, when did you hack my phone and change your contact name?! It isn't even funny! I am changing it back. This is why you were in there as Pita in the first place.
WasAlmostMrsPotter: First off, I am extraordinarily clever and the name change is pretty funny. I WAS almost Mrs Potter until you decided you liked cock! Second, why am I trying to guess who Luna is having lunch with? Is it a real person? Or did she make them up?
Harry:You really are insufferable. I try to remind myself why I stay friends with you when all you do is give me a constant migraine. Yes, the person is real. I will give you a few clues. He is a pain in the arse from Slytherin with blonde hair!
WasAlmostMrsPotter: You are friends with me because trying to fuck me didn't work out! Are you telling me that your literal sex fantasy was there and took our Luna out to lunch?
Harry: You are the worst. Honestly I think I like Percy better than you. He is NOT my sex fantasy! And yes he took Luna out to lunch! I thought he married that girl who was below us. One of the Greengrass girls.
WorseThanPercy: What?! Harry, do you even read The Profit? Your little Slytherin Sex god was all the scandal last year. He called off his arranged marriage and came out as gay! How did you miss that? Are you honestly telling me that you had no clue that the man you wanted over for years bats for your team? Look at him! He screams gay! No straight man wears his pants that tight.
Harry: I've changed your name to WorseThanPercy in my phone, just so you know. You know I don't read any papers because I can't stand seeing the lies about myself in them. So, no I didn't know that Malfoy was in the papers or a scandal at all. Please stop talking about him like that too. I did not wank over him. I don't think he's sexy. The point is then, if he's not here to take Luna on a date date then why is he here with her? She mentioned a work project but she didn't say much more. What does Malfoy do for work?
WorseThanPercy: I am not worse than Percy. You better wash those dirty words out of your mouth! I know you are lying about Malfoy. You certainly drunk confessed to me about how sexy you thought he was, and you wished you could have shut him up in other ways. Don't make me pull the memory and make you watch it. I have no idea what he does for work. As far as I know, he parted ways with his father according to the paper and started his own business. They didn't say much more than that. Stop worrying. It's sixth year all over again. Luna is a big girl. I have to go, I have a team meeting to talk about training start ups. I love you. Go back to work, then go home and picture Malfoy in whatever he was wearing and have a wank for old time sakes. Tata!
Harry glared at his phone rubbing his hand down his face. Ginny really was a pain.
Harry: I hope your day is going better than mine. I ran into a blast from the past and now I can't focus on work one bit.
Cobra: That's no good. Is what you have to do important? Could you go home sick? Do you want to talk about it? I am hanging with a friend this afternoon but I'm sure she would understand if you need to vent.
Harry: Are you sure? I don't want to interrupt. And no, I can't go home. I have a mountain of paper work
Harry hated that he had to be so vague with Cobra, but just over a week of texting and wanking was hardly enough to reveal anything too personal. The only part he had confessed was that he did have a child. He had explained it as vaguely as possible. That the boy had lost both his parents in the war and he had adopted him. Cobra hadn't seemed to mind. He told him that was very brave of him and extremely selfless.
Cobra: Prongs, I am sure. You know I wouldn't offer if it was a problem. My friend told me if you need to vent that you should. Something about not keeping it bottled up because… we'll never mind that. So tell me about the blast from the past? Good? Bad?
Harry: A bit of both. We didn't exactly see eye to eye in school. He was a right git growing up. I hadn't seen him since right after the war. So it just caught me off guard.
Cobra: Ah, yeah I have one of those people in my life. He is the reason I can't stand Hero Complex's. I swear he was always out trying to save everyone all the time to make everyone like him. So this blast from the past, I'm going to guess stirred up some feelings? Still hate him? Or does he make you feel something else?
Harry: I would be lying if I said he wasn't a good looking guy. He definitely starred in a few of my fantasies. Hate him? No. I don't know that I ever hated him. I hated the way he acted. But never him. I could tell he wore a mask. Trying to be what his family expected of him. I think he was a lot like me in some ways. Just trying to survive. I think seeing him surprised me because at first glance he is almost the same guy, but I guess that's not true either. I found out some things I didn't know. Makes me rethink of how I see him. And you know, I'm starting to think you secretly know me. That was my hero complex to a T! I was awful about helping everyone. I didn't know how to say no! I didn't have a lot of friends growing up so I did want everyone to like me.
Cobra: Well, if I did know who you were, we would be having this conversation face to face. Is it awful I'm jealous? Sometimes I hate that we haven't met yet. I know we're taking it slow, both of us have a lot to lose if we rush and it goes wrong. I'm just such the jealous type and knowing all these cute guys walk into your life, it makes me batty. Anyways, sounds like you just kind of grew up Prongs. There's nothing wrong with being surprised that you don't feel the same way about someone from school. People are always changing and growing. You and him both have grown I'm sure. You went through a war just like me, and to say it didn't affect us would be just utter nonsense.
Harry: I think your jealousy is a bit sexy. I don't think anyone's ever felt that intense about me without knowing who I was. I'll just take it as a compliment. You don't have to be jealous though. Cute or not, him and I? That wouldn't happen in a million years. Even if I wanted it, which I don't, he wouldn't even look twice at me. We live two totally different types of lives.
Cobra: Well his loss is my gain. Are you feeling any better?
Harry: Much better, thank you. I'm going to tackle this paper work. I'll message you when I escape.
Cobra: Anytime Prongs.
