Author's forward: Good evening, everybody! I know it's been a while, but the call of duty was strong and I had to prepare for my final. But, I'm so glad to say it was worth it, because I passed my test and now I'm one step closer to my goal! I wanted to publish this chapter sooner, but it was impossible. After the finals I was still full with chores and other stuff I had to put aside that I didn't have any free second for days. But at least I'm here now and I will bring you a new chapter that I had lots of fun writing, so I hope you can also enjoy it!
As always, thanks a lot for your reviews and for reading and leave a comment if you want. Let's go!
Chapter 4: Friday night fever
It was almost 9 o'clock in the night. Outside Kyoto International School, Ling Xiaoyu was positioned in the top of a building a block away, watching. She was wearing an urban outfit: a black sport bra, a red and white jacket with a bunny logo in the back, white pants, a pair of pink sneakers and a pair of globes matching her outfit. She has been waiting for an hour for someone to appear, searching the place with a pair of G Corporation high technology binoculars. Along with her, Panda was making her company, sleeping like a giant fur ball. If her suspicions were right, at any moment the elite students will sneak out and go to a secret fight club. But if she was wrong, she could consider herself fired or even death, depending on the humor of her boss that night.
Come on, I know they will come out soon. She kept looking at the perimeter. In the dark, the school was completely silent, not a movement inside the classrooms. The honor class dorms were separated for a garden full of trees. Thanks to her binoculars, the young martial artist was capable of seeing the motion sensors, a serious amount of lasers invisible to the naked eye. The whole patio was surrounded by them. If she had tried to enter, she would have been discovered in seconds. Yet, she still had faith in the elite pupils, mostly because she had been in their places before.
The second something gets forbidden you start to give it more value. Xiaoyu still remembered how a couple of years ago she used to sneak out to go to street fights in the Tokyo dark alleys. Sometimes she went alone, other times she was just following her friend Jin. Jin Kazama really loved to fight. He used to go to so many fights he ended up making a reputation as the street champion. Those were the good old times. She recalled with bitterness. After the third Iron Fist Tournament, Jin disappeared and Xiaoyu couldn't find him anywhere. She even kept attending the street fights in hope of him appearing, but he never showed up. The chinese student stopped going to the fights for a while, she even tried to resign from any kind of tournament, looking for a normal life. But after all that excitement, a simple life was too mundane for her. She faced the fact that from now on her life will always revolve around fighting and the King of the Iron Fist Tournament, for as long as there will be someone with the intention of organizing it.
When her watch marked exactly 9 p.m., a sudden move woke up Xiaoyu's attention. She was not sure of what it was, it looked like a glint that lasted less than half a second. The young spy accommodated herself to be sure of looking at whatever it was again, and this time she clearly saw it. In an area of the patio , one full of trees surrounding a manhole cover placed in a grass section, almost hidden, the laser sensors blinked for a second, to finally go off completely. Immediately, the bushes around shaked and a group of people came off them. Even with her binoculars, it was hard to see them from a long stance and with no light at all. But Xiaoyu managed to count seven fast shadows who lifted the manhole cover and disappeared under it just before the motion sensors started working again.
I knew it! Xiaoyu thought in complete joy for being right. Immediately, she turned on her earphones while waking Panda up.
"Anna, it's Ling Xiaoyu, do you copy me?"
"Loud and clear. What did you get, kid?"
"My hunch was right, our suspect just left the building by the sewer under the school. I need you to tell me where it goes." As she was saying this, Xiaoyu got on Panda and took out her G Phone, ready to ride in any second.
"Good job," Anna said, slightly amazed. She was definitely surprised the plan was working. "I'm getting the coordinates. The water stream goes south, the next possible exit is the one in Omiya Traffic Park at 800 meters." A map appeared in the martial artist's G Phone with the exact location.
"Got it. I'm out." Xiaoyu looked at the time. It was 9:02 p.m. She needed to be there in the next seven minutes if she wanted to catch them. "Let's go, Panda!" With no losing more time, Panda jumped out of the building where they were keeping watch and ran down the narrow streets to avoid calling attention. Luckily for them, the streets were almost empty. The residential areas were almost dead at that hour and the fun was happening in the center of the big city, and that's where they were heading for sure.
When they arrived at Omiya Traffic Park, the place was closed for repairs, so there was not even a soul around. No wonder Anna marked it like the possible exit. There is no one to see a bunch of mysterious teenagers getting out of the sewers.Xiaoyu looked at the map on her G Phone again. After they found the manhole cover, they barely had time to hide out behind an old railway engine put for decoration before it opened and the seven shadows appeared again one by one. Now that she was close she tried to take a better look at them. They were definitely all men, and they all had big muscle structures. Unfortunately, they all also were wearing hoodies and masks, so it was impossible for her to see their faces. She needed to get closer.
As soon as the last one came out, they all started leaving the park behind. Xiaoyu and Panda followed them again. The student got on a bus heading to the east. So the duo chose to move through the roofs of the houses to get a better vision and don't lose the vehicle.
In around ten minutes, the bus crossed the Takano River and the group went down to the Shugakuin Station, where they all paid for their tickets and waited around. Panda gracefully climbed to the roof of the station and waited in the shadows. Thank God it was dark, or else a giant panda bear would be too extravagant.
They're taking the train. Great! Xiaoyu knew that, soon or later, her friend would be too notorious to keep traveling on foot. But the new situation gave them an advantage. As soon as the train arrived at the station, she made sure the seven students entered the wagon. And when the machine started moving, Panda ran at full speed and jumped off the roof to land perfectly in the last wagon. With that fast move accomplished, they just needed to keep quiet and enjoy the trip.
The view of the city at night was extremely beautiful. Even from far away, Xiaoyu was able to see Kyoto's palaces and temples, all this antique structure perfectly combined with the modern buildings and vehicles. All together moving at night, a refreshing and new energy she was not used to seeing back at home.
"Amazing." Escaped from the Chinese fighter's lips. But even with the beauty of the land, she never forgot she was there to fulfill a mission. In every stop, she paid extra attention to make sure they won't lose their target. The trip was long. They were traveling south, entering Kyoto's limits.
After Forty minutes traveling, the group finally descended at the Yodo Station, and so did Xiaoyu and Panda. They went straight to an old fabric near the Katsura river. The place around was calm, like if the city suddenly remembered it should keep quiet. At the entrance of the construction, two big guys were working as bouncers, allowing and denying access to whoever stood in front of them. When the group of students made the appearance, all of them were accepted.
Xiaoyu looked at her watch again. It had been more than an hour since the last time she talked to Anna, if she didn't get in contact soon, she would get in trouble.
"Anna, this is Ling Xiaoyu again. The boys are in a fabric like the rumors said."
"Has anybody seen you?"
"No, we have been very discreet."
"Well done, then you can proceed. Get in there and find if our boy is one of them."
"Got it." Xiaoyu hung up. She looked around the building. It looked abandoned and out of shape from outside, but she knew it could be just a façade. However, she was sure the best way to be in advantage was to enter from the top. She needed to climb, more specifically, to a broken window she saw on the fourth floor at the back of the place. The Chinese fighter got down from her furry friend and patted her head.
"I'm sorry Panda, but it's better if I do this part on my own."
"Growl! (Please take care, Xiao.)" Panda looked at her with her little eyes, almost begging for her safety.
"Don't worry, I'll be fine. I remember you I'm a pro at sneaking," She was it, actually. Since her early childhood she had developed an extraordinary ability to be unnoticeable when she needed it, and the more the time passed, the more she perfectioned it. "Go hide somewhere, I'll look for you as soon as I finish."
Panda gave her friend a warm hug and immediately left. Even when she hated to get separated from Xiaoyu, she trusted her with her life, so when she said she would be fine, she couldn't do anything but follow her orders.
Xiaoyu then proceeded with her entrance. There was no one around the back of the fabric, so it was going to be easy to get to the top. Stepping back a few meters to gain impulse, she started sprinting at full speed. When she was a meter away from the wall, she jumped with all her strength and climbed the wall a few steps, which gave her enough impulse to grab the frame of a window on the second floor. Helping herself with her feet, she stood up in the frame and looked inside. She didn't see anybody, so she proceeded without the worry of getting caught. She then aimed her next jump at an old pipe on the third floor, just abode the broken window. It was so old it had bent horizontally, which was perfect right now. Xiaoyu jumped and graved the pipe with both hands. Quickly and with the impulse of the jump, she balanced her body fast and let herself go to get lifted up to the window of the next floor. When she got as high as the opening, she threw her body backwards to get in, arching her back as much as she could to avoid the borders with broken glass. After her whole body passed the window, she moved her legs forward, making a backflip before landing on her feet. It was a perfect landing.
Xiaoyu looked around. The place was big and dark, but she didn't feel surrounded by any menace. From where she was, she was able to see the first floor. The students were there, talking to each other or looking at the old machines. It was hard to know what they were for. They looked like they were made to assemble something, but not sure what. There were also some strange and gigantic machines enfolded by a cloth cover, so nobody could see what was underneath.
The lights surrounding the students went on all of the sudden, and then a dramatic voice resounded in the whole fabric.
"Are these gentlemen my new challengers?" Said the voice. And then, coming out between the machines, Lee Chaolan appeared, but this time he was dressed as Violet. No way, he is behind all of this! Xiaoyu thought while looking from her hiding spot.
One of the guys approached Lee and whispered some words to him, who looked amazed for whatever he was hearing.
"Excellent!" Lee proceeded to take a big wad of bills out of his pocket and he gave it to the guy, who then went to sit in some stair aside. That must be Matt Brown. "Welcome everybody to my humble abode. My name is Violet and I'm the CEO of Violet Systems. Tonight I've gathered all of you with a substantial offer." He clapped his hands two times and the lights behind him also turned on, revealing a two and a half meters tall metal box with the words "Violet Systems" on it.
"I'm here looking for the strongest and most promising fighters the world have ever seen to join me and my explendid company in the search of glory," Lee went to the box and stood beside it. "Inside this box is the most brilliant of my creations, which it will decide if any of you has the strength and sophistication that it takes to enter in my company in The Bahamas, get the honor of receiving my special training, and the most important of all, get to participate with me in the upcoming King of The Iron Fist Tournament!" After that statement, some of the guys cheered and applauded, they were all excited and longing to start showing what they got.
So, Lee is looking for new flesh. Xiaoyu thought while looking at the scene. It was nothing uncommon to see the big companies looking for young and enthusiastic followers, it was even the reason she moved to Japan in the first place. But the recruiting of the Mishima Zaibatsu didn't end with Jin and her, it included the whole Mishima Polytechnical School, actually. Before being a school, the grounds of MPS used to be a Tekken Force Training Facility, built to mold the Zaibatsu's loyalty servers. With the passing of time, Heihachi noticed the importance education had taken in the country, so he decided to make a school to attract teenagers with the offert of form part of one of the best institutes, with the best teachers and a huge variety of classes to cultivate oneself, and also learn Heihachi's values. By the time you get in your senior year, you are probably so devoted and thankful to the man who made everything possible for you, that you didn't doubt for a second to accept the offer to join Mishima's army. The man not only gave you an education, he provided you a secured job. Heihachi did this for so long, it used to be normal that some of the students had parents who also went to MPS and now worked in the Tekken Force. This way, the Mishima Zaibatsu didn't just have employers, it counted with believers.
"So, let's not delay our business anymore. Here is the biggest creation ever seen by humanity," Lee touched a side of the box and it completely opened showing inside a robot. The machine didn't look extraordinary at first glance. It was a bipedal, human sized android, with an actually skinny structure and a rough face, it looked like a bucket with two red lights glued to make eyes. "Combot!"
When they saw it, the crowd burst into laughter, not believing that thing could really be the test they needed to pass. Yet even with all the mocking, Lee Chaolan wasn't offended at all, he was still looking at the multitude with confidence, and Ling Xiaoyu knew why very well.
"Is this a joke?" Said one of the guys in the group, a blond student with a fade haircut. "Man, what a rip-off, they said this was a hard challenge." The boy taunted his opponent, very convinced in his own abilities.
"Do I hear correctly? The night has just started and we already have a volunteer." Lee Chaolan said with delight. "Excellent! Let's see what you got. Combot," The eyes of the robot turned on and its firm posture changed into quick and short jumps. Oh, boy. He is dead. "Fight!"
With no previous warning, Combot ran at an extremely fast speed towards its mocker, getting extremely close to him before he could do something about it, which made him receive a punch directly in his face. But it was not any regular punch, it was the legendary Dragon Knuckle, one of the martial artist Marshall Law's faded haircut boy flew a few meters before falling flat on the floor. Now no one was laughing anymore.
"I think it would be chivalrous of me to warn you," Said Lee Chaolan while suppressing a small laugh. "Combot over here is an Artificial Intelligence capable of emulating any human action, that includes fighting. Even more, it has charged in its system the movements of the best fighters in the whole world. Enjoy!"
"Argh, you little..." Said the faded haircut guy while struggling to stand up. When he finally made it, he lunged at Combot at full speed. Wrong choice. Combot prepared itself by doing a Dragon Charge, and when its opponent arrived, it welcomed him with a Dragon Cannon. This time, the kick sent him even further away. Combot started running again, and before his challenger's body was able to touch the ground, he received a final Dragon Uppercut that made him fly for a second and then hit the floor with his face. The boy didn't dare to stand a second time. Combot ended its demonstration with a Somersault, mostly to show off, and then proceeded to stay still again.
"Excellent, as always," The CEO of Violet Systems said to his creation. Some of the students looked nervous now, unable to keep the composure after such a brief and fierce combat. "Come one! The rest of you, don't get shy. We're just starting to enjoy ourselves here. Combot," The eyes of the robot turned on one more time, and it raised its punches, one peeking out while the other covered its "stomac". That's Julia Chang standing posture. Xiaoyu had faced her a couple of times, the next round wouldn't be any easier. "So, who wants to go next?" Lee said while raising his arms inviting the rest.
There were still two guysl willing to fight, one of them approached while the rest stood aside. He was a big and muscular dark skinned boy with koren features. He put on some gloves and made a kick boxing stance. "I'm Jason Kyeon and I will take your offer"
"Very well. At least you look more suitabled than the last one," He said pointing at the guy who was getting lifted by his friends. "Fighting is elegance at its purest. You need to have some class to win, so impress us with your style."
Combot and James faced each other and none of them moved until Lee Screamed "Fight!". James advanced first, believing in having the advantage if he didn't leave time for the AI to calculate its movements, he threw three consecutive punches to his adversary, right, left, right. Unfortunately, Combot crossed its arms to avoid a direct punch to its head. Taking advantage of the opening James was leaving, Combot made a Machine Gun Punch. James barely dodged the first hit, but the second went straight to his belly, getting out of balance for losing the air in his stomach. Combot continued immediately with a Jamming Low Kick and added in the end a Raging River, leaving James semi unconscious in the floor facing the roof. Combot jumped to finish the new challenger with a Foot Stomp, but James got to roll to the side just in time to get away from the attack so, instead, the cement floor received it and got severely crushed.
Still not giving up, James continued with his fight. Combot threw a Twisting Arrow and a Left Knee, Which his opponent chose to block instead of avoiding this time. Even if it hurted him, now he was at last in position to attack, he sent a kick to the exposed right side of the robot, making it back off a little but not getting to knocking it down. James got to make a second kick, but before he could continue throwing a punch, Combot grabbed him by his wrist, as if it already knew what he was going to do, and proceeded to do a Cross Arm Suplex, hitting his back and neck.
James was dizzy for the launch, but he rolled forward in an attempt to stand up quickly, even so, it was pointless. Combot was already performing its final movement: a Tequila Sunrise Arrow Kick. He was already fainting when he received the flying kick.
"Well, what a shame, I have to say," Lee commented, looking at the unconscious fighter on the ground. "Your style was clean and sophisticated, but your lack of audacity made you play safe and you weren't able to figure out how to face your opponent."
He is right. Xiaoyu analized it. He had a grat technique, but it was obvious he never fought someone outside his discipline, even less something that is not human. James was taken by the other boys and put beside the other fighter knocked down. Lee Chaolan looked around and then he shaked his head in disappointment.
"Gentleman, I'm not gonna lie, I feel very discouraged by your performance tonight. I was hoping at least one of you would be able to provide me with at least some entertainment," His cocky attitude was getting on everybody's nerves, but they didn't dare to say anything. "Now, has this display already finished or is there any fool left for the final round?"
"I can do you the honors." A mysterious voice said out of the sudden. Everyone, including Ling Xiaoyu, looked at the source of it. He was the last hooded student, who had been all this time quiet in the shadows, so everyone forgot he was still there.
"Excelent! The last participant of this journey."
The hooded boy got in the middle of the place and removed the hood from his face, making Ling Xiaoyu gasp for excitement. There he was, in flesh and bones, with his long brown hair and his pretty brown eyes, Shin Kamiya, the most wanted man for the G Corporation.
"Get ready for the next battle, because I won't go easier with you."
To be continued…
Author's note: That´s all for today. See you next wednesday when I put my schedule back on time to avoid any more delays. Shin Kamiya had finally appeared. At first, I wanted to include his fight in this chapter, but it was getting too long, so I decided to put it next week. The changes from the movie are still going. Don't expect me to write the scene where Shin jumps from a building to show how strong he is. That is not strong at all, that's just emo, and the world already has enough emo characters wandering around hating life. Next chapter we'll see some of Shin's abilities, so stay tuned!
Thoughts during the creation process: In this chapter, Xiaoyu was dressed like in Tekken 4, which is one of my favorite Ling Xiaoyu's outfits. It looked perfect for fighting and also for wandering around a city. I know her school uniform is emblematic, but there's no way someone can make a secret mission wearing a plaid skirt, no matter how much the animators worked to make sure the skirt was capable of defying gravity
