A boy stormed in. Wendy recognized him.
Zack Pepper.
Zack sniffled as he walked towards his desk.
Plunking his stuff down on the desk. He started to unzip his backpack.
"What's wrong with you?" Wendy asked him.
Startled, he spun around and noticed Wendy at her desk.
He sighed.
"Oh. Wendy. Its you." Zack said.
Wendy gazed at him with her good eye.
"Could you please not stare at me like that?" he asked. "Its kinda creepy "
Wendy shrugged and turned away.
"Also...to answer your question... My dog died last night." Zack said.
"Sorry to hear that." Wendy asked.
"Sorry to hear what?" a voice asked.
The two glanced at the door and saw more kids come in.
Wendy recognized them instantly. Randy Clay. Brianna Smith. Scott and Glenn.
"Zack's dog died." Wendy said as she began taking stuff out of her bookbag.
They voiced their sympathies.
"He didn't just die. He was eaten!" Zack told them.
Randy's eyes widened. "What do you mean EATEN?!" she asked.
"I mean eaten. My father heard sounds of fighting this morning and saw two felines fighting over him." Zack said.
"Wow!" Glen said. "What did your dad do?"
"Confronted them with a shotgun. He got a good description and he shot one, before it swatted his shotgun out of his hands and chased him to the back door." Zack said.
Wendy rolled her eyes.
By then more kids had arrived.
"What did they look like?" Scott asked.
"One had black fur and the other had red fur. The red one was shot. Dad thinks its a female. It has a scar over its right eye and BOTH of them had a white star in the middle of their foreheads." Zack said.
"Wow!" a boy said.
By then Tina had walked in and had been listening in.
She sat down and leaned over to Wendy.
"What's going on?" Tina asked.
"Listen and you'll find out." Wendy said without turning her head.
Just then...Mrs. Anderson strode through the doorway.
She set her stuff on her desk and cleared her throat.
"Ok, class. Please take your seats. I have an important announcement to make." Mrs. Anderson said.
