The first fosterling Father took in was a girl around Robb and Jon's age called Meera Reed. She arrived unexpectedly, accompanied by two crannogmen guards and bearing a letter for Father. He read it, smiled, and welcomed her to Winterfell.
Meera was given a room near Sansa's. Father hoped they would be friends, though Mother frowned and told her not to listen to the older girl's barbarian ways.
Meera preferred to spend her time outside lessons with Arya and Bran though, despite their younger ages. The three of them ran wild in the godswood and climbed the castle walls.
Cregan and Sara – if they really existed and really were still around – never seemed to bother Meera the way they did Theon. Sometimes Sansa even wondered if she could see them.
That was silly, but sometimes she saw Meera's eyes find whatever Jon was looking at and then she would smile.
