He felt like time was slowing down, he could hear the guard turning the key next to him, he could hear the sound of his own heartbeat pounding to let him know just how scared he was. He couldn't hear what was happening in the room but he could see Sara's lips mouth "Gil" and his eyes met hers and he realised he wasn't the only one who was scared. He could see Adam Trent's mouth telling her not to look at him and to look at the floor and he heard his own stomach drop when Sara broke that connection and listen to Adam's instructions. Finally he noticed Nurse McKay banging on the window and his eyes briefly looked towards Adam as he slit his own throat and then followed Sara as she powered out of the room and down the corridor.

Grissom looked in the room and could see staff on top of Adam trying to stem the bleeding. He briefly entertained the idea of going in the room, after all there was evidence in that room but then he felt the issue was more of a medical issue and he should probably check on Sara. He sees her with her hands against the metal grate covering the window and he quickly glances behind him. Everyone is still focused on the chaos inside the nurses station, he walks up behind her "Honey" he announces himself before touching her.

"I'm fine Gil." He knows she's not. He cannot recall a time in which she used the "f" word and was actually ok. Grissom was pleased that she leant back into his touch. Clearly needing the comfort.

"I know." He tells her softly, trying to keep the scepticism out of his voice. He listens intently as Sara reveals that her mother had been sent to a place like this after killing her father and tries to keep the rage internalised as Nurse McKay comes over and blames them for what happened.

Finally, it's time to leave the hospital. Whilst Sara was making a report to hospital staff he'd found where the ceramic that Adam Trent's weapon had come from and he loaded it carefully into the car before waiting for Sara. She slipped into the car and reached across the centre console to touch his hand which was gripped tightly on the wheel. "Gil? Are you ok." He found the situation laughable. She was asking him, she'd been the one trapped in the room whilst a complete nutcase, and not just any nutcase, a violent raping nutcase, had held a shard to her neck before slitting his own. He'd been fine, he'd been safe, sure he'd been stood there feeling fear like he'd never felt before but he'd been in no actual danger.

"Hmmm" He'd answered instead and Sara frowned, he realised he better giver her a satisfactory answer "I should be asking you that."

"You did" Sara points out softly.

"You're fine. So I'm fine." Neither of them were fine, he knew this.

They got back to the lab, apparently news of their exploits had beat them back and Grissom was immediately swept off to do the required paperwork for such an incident, he sent Sara to investigate the acoustic archaeology with Sofia although he was loathe to let her out of his sight. Once the paperwork was completed and the connection between Nurse McKay and Adam had been discovered he watched the interrogation from the observation room, he was still feeling deeply unsettled by what had happened that night more so than it seemed Sara was. He led her to his vehicle instead of her own when it was time to leave. If she thought it was weird she didn't question it.

Sara didn't question it either when he drove her straight to his townhouse instead of her own apartment at least not until he had gripped her hand when she got out of the car and led her to the door. "Gil are you sure you're ok?"

"What about you?" She thought she'd strangle him when he answered her question with one of his own.

"I'm going to be honest, I really want a shower." She turned and looked him in the eye and offered him a weak half smile. "I can still smell the hospital." Grissom gave her a sympathetic look as he fumbled for his keys. The door was open and Sara allowed herself to be tugged through the door and smiled as she heard Hank's paws skittering in the kitchen as he bound towards them. "Hi Baby." She tugged her hand free from Grissom's and he felt a sudden pang of jealousy. This wasn't the first Hank to be called "Baby" by Sara. Sara completely oblivious of what Grissom was feeling meanwhile lavished attention on the dog. Once he felt he'd had an appropriate amount of fussing from Sara he turned to his first human who, despite everything did love the dog and also fussed his head.

"I'll fill his dish and let him out." Grissom told her hoping she wouldn't hear how reluctant he was to let her out of his sight again. "You go take a shower." He followed the dog to the kitchen filled the small metal bowl with kibble whilst Hank ran around in the garden peeing on every bush he could find before running back inside and demolishing his meal (the bits that weren't being flung everywhere anyway). Grissom who'd been sat on one of the stools at the breakfast bar kept replaying the incident at the hospital in his head had completely zoned out until he felt the boxer's slobbery head in his lap. He gave Hank an affectionate scratch behind the ears. "Sara nearly died today buddy." He wasn't sure what the human had said but the tone indicated it was bad and besides that Grissom had stopped scratching his ears so he gave a pitiful whine. "Tell me about it." Grissom told the dog.

He climbed the stairs and went to his bedroom where he found Sara sat on the bed wearing one of his t-shirts despite a draw full of her own clothing that had slowly been creeping over since they'd started having sleep overs before work. He also noticed that her skin seemed to be red from the heat of the shower. He sat on the bed next to her and took her hand in his. "Sara, are you sure you're ok?" He repeats her question from earlier.

"I can still smell him." She whispered before pulling her knees up to her face as she sat on the bed.

"Oh honey." Grissom felt his heart break as she said it and he sits next to her and wraps his arms around her shoulders placing a gentle kiss on her head. Sara turns her head and captures his lips in hers. "I was so scared." He threads his fingers through hers. "I saw him holding that shard to your neck and I was terrified Sara." He places a kiss on the mark on her neck. "I love you." He whispers. "All I could think about was not having a chance to tell you that." He kisses her on the lips and feels her respond, the more she responds the more Grissom keeps kissing her. They end up laying back against the comforter and Sara's hands start tugging at his shirt and slip underneath. Grissom's lips leave hers and slowly start moving down her neck, he's pleasantly surprised to find a spot at the base of her neck that made her moan loudly. He set himself to the task of finding if there were other spots on Sara that made her moan like that, needing the noise to reassure him that she was here, she was alive and she was safe. Clothes are tugged off and the comforter ends up bunched up and half off the bed by the time they're done.

Lifting himself off her and on to his elbows they both look at each other and grin. "That was unexpected." Sara smirks at him and he leans down and captures her lips in a passionate kiss.

"In a good way I hope." Grissom rolls off her and tugs her over so that's she's draped across his chest.

She smiles and starts placing small kisses on his chest which is still rising and falling after he tries to get his breath back. "In the best kind of way." She reassures him that she's telling the truth when she looks up and smiles at him. "I don't know why I'm surprised." She rolls over and leans on crossed elbows placed on his chest. "I don't think I was expecting you to be so thorough, but then when are not thorough…" She trails off and ducks her head down to hide the blush spreading across her face. Grissom laughs and wraps his arms around her. "I surprised myself as well" Sara looks up and see's him raise an eyebrow "I'm not normally so vocal." The blush then covers her whole face and she hides it in his shoulder.

He pushes her chin up "I liked it." He tells her sincerely and she hides again "Male ego is incredibly fragile you know. It's nice to hear when you're doing a good job." She groans in total embarrassment and wriggles out of his grasp and scoops up her underwear and the t-shirt she'd originally put on and, in Grissom's opinion, practically runs to the bathroom. He laughs and rolls out of bed and his hand automatically goes to pull off the condom he assumes they used and panics when he just touches skin instead. "Honey?" He calls from the bedroom and he slips on a pair of cotton pyjama pants "I appreciate you're hiding from me right now, although I don't know why, but I need to talk to you."

He hears the flush and taps go and she comes out of the room, eyebrows quirked in challenge. "I'm not hiding Gil. I was avoiding a water infection." She slips into bed next to him and snuggles into his side "I'm a little embarrassed though." She admits "I learned to be quiet. Groups homes & room mates you know…" She shrugged.

"Sure ok." He's moved on from her embarrassment "We may have been a little hasty…"

Suddenly Sara pushes away from him and sits up in the bed "Grissom…"

Grissom. Uh oh. He'd been Gil in private for a number of weeks now. "No, no, no!" He quickly reaches out and grabs her hand "Not that. Definitely not that."

"Then what?"

"We didn't use a…" He stops suddenly embarrassed, and he doesn't know why. He's nearly 50 years old and he's talking to his wife. He should be able to discuss birth control with her.

"A what Gil?" Gil. Good sign he thought. "A condom?" She chuckles. "Don't worry."

"Don't worry?" He's confused, does she want a child? They hadn't discussed it. They probably should have before he decided he was going to marry her whilst in the middle of a meeting at work.

"I've been on the pill since I was 14." She shrugs and snuggles back into the side of him. "Helps with the you know…" Now Sara's the embarrassed one.

"The not having a baby thing?" He asks seriously.

"No." She feels her eyes getting heavier. "Periods. Cramps. That kind of thing."

"Oh." He honestly hadn't really considered her time of the month. "So we're good?"

"Yeah." Her eyes are completely closed at this point.

"Good." He wriggles getting comfy and allows himself to start to drift off as well when he's suddenly awakened by a shove. Sara, in her last thoughts before dropping off, suddenly realises that Grissom had said those three little words she'd always wanted to hear from him. "Sara?"

"I love you too." She says quickly. "I realised I forgot to tell you."

"Oh." He smiles and closes his eyes again. "Good."
