As he was poking the food with his fork, Luke finally decided to tell his uncle about R2.

"I think that R2 unit we bought might have been stolen. He says he belongs to someone called Obi Wan Kenobi. I thought he might have meant Ben."

As his mind was still filled with the image of the girl, Luke failed to notice Uncle Ben shrugging, as the old moisture farmer remembered that horrifying night when the former inquisitor known as the Third Sister, came in order to kill Luke. The only people living in the Lars homestead who knew the true reason of the attack was he and his wife Beru.

"That old man's just a crazy wizard." Owen finally responded with some bitter. "Tomorrow I want you to take that R2 unit into Anchorhead and have its memory flushed."

"What if this Obi Wan comes looking for him?" Luke asked, though the main reason he didn't want to flush the droid's memory was to find more about the beautiful girl on the hologram.

"He won't." Owen firmly answered. "He died about the same time as your father."

"He knew my father?"

"I told you to forget it." Owen reprimanded the teenage boy, as he didn't like his nephew questioning him about his father. "Your only concern is to prepare the new droids for tomorrow."

"Yes, sir." Luke grumbled. He was beyond angry. Luke always wanted to know more about his father, but to no success. He always dreamt of leaving this miserable shit hole, that wasn't even a planet, but a wasteland. The only comfort he had was watching the sunset of the Twin Suns, imagining an adventure somewhere in the galaxy. Approaching his family home, Luke saw a panicked C-3PO running towards him.

"What are you doing back there?" Luke asked, trying to calm down the droid.

"It wasn't my fault, sir! I told him not to go, but he kept babbling on about his mission!" C-3PO exclaimed in response.

"Oh no…" Luke muttered, understanding what R2 was thinking. He ran outside and began searching the astromech with his binoculars, but the droid was nowhere to be seen. "He's nowhere in sight. Blast it!"

"Pardon me, sir, but couldn't we go after him?" the golden droid asked as he finally caught up with the blonde boy.

"It's too dangerous with all the sand people around." Luke answered before returning to the homestead as night has begun. "We'll have to wait until morning."

The next day, both Luke and C-3PO raced across the desert on a landspeeder as Luke rode it.

"There's a droid on the scanner." Luke finally spoke to the protocol droid. "It might be our little R2 unit."

Indeed it was as the found a panicked R2-D2 whimpering and yelling in binary like a rabid animal. He continued to move when both Luke and C-3PO caught up with him.

"Hey! Just where do you think you're going?" the boy demanded an answer, only for the astromech to continue to panic.

"What's wrong with him?"

"There are several creatures approaching from the southeast." C-3PO translated. Luke cursed to himself as he knew what the droids meant.

Cowering behind a couple of boulders, Luke watched as a band of Tusken with a Banthas, with the two droids behind him at all size.

"They're sand people all right." Luke commented. "I can see one of…"

Suddenly, a Tusken appeared out of nowhere, screeching viciously. Behind Luke could react, the Tusken knocked him out unconscious with a gaderffii stick. R2-D2 was wailing as the sand people were dragging the boy's unconscious body. Suddenly, a hooded figure appeared, scaring the Tusken away as they dumbed Luke's boy. With them gone, the hooded figure approached Luke. The astromech continue to screech in binary, wary of the intruder who frightened the sand people. The figure pulled off his hood, revealing an old man with white hair, moustache and beard. Looking at the droid, he smiled.

"Hello there," he spoke. "Come here, my little friend. Don't worry. He'll be alright."

Once he was mentioned by the stranger, Luke began waking up, immediately recognizing the intruder.

"Ben?" the boy asked. "Ben Kenobi! Boy, am I glad to see you!"

The old man, Ben Kenobi, smiled at the boy before asking. "Tell me, young Luke, what brings you out this far?"

"Oh, this little droid!" Luke pointed at R2. "I think he's searching for his former master. He claims to be the property of Obi Wan Kenobi. Do you know him?"

"Obi Wan Kenobi…" Ben muttered thoughtfully as he sat on a nearby rock. "Now, that's a name I haven't heard in a long time."

"You know him?" Luke asked again.

"Well, of course I know him. He's me!" Ben answered. "I haven't gone by the name Obi Wan since before you were born."

Later, the two were siting inside Kenobi's dwelling as Luke polished the golden protocol droid.

"My father didn't fight in the wars. He was a navigator on a spice freighter." Luke argued with the old hermit as they talked about his father.

"That's what your uncle told you." Ben explained the teenage boy. "He didn't hold with your father's ideals."

"You fought in the Clone Wars?" Luke asked with curiosity.

"Yes, I was once a Jedi Knight, the same as your father." Ben answered. "He was the best star pilot in the galaxy, and a cunning warrior. Which reminds me, I have something here for you."

Without ease, Ben stood up before slowly heading towards a chest, from which he took out a cylinder-like tool.

"Your father's lightsaber. This is the weapon of a Jedi Knight." Ben explained to Luke as he gave the weapon to the boy. "Your father wanted you to have this, but your uncle wouldn't allow it."

Curious, Luke pressed a button and awed as a blue blade emerged, while Obi Wan continued.

"For over thousand generations, the Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the old Republic. Before the Dark Times, before the Empire."

"How did my father die?" Luke asked once he turned off the lightsaber. Ben Kenobi looked at the boy sadly.

"A young Jedi named Darth Vader helped the Empire hunt down and destroy the Jedi Knights." Ben answered. "He betrayed and murdered your father. Vader was seduced by the Dark Side of the Force."

"The Force?"

"The Force is what gives the Jedi his power." Ben told the boy. "It's an energy field created by all living this. It surrounds and penetrates us."

Just then, R2-D2 approached, before displaying the message once again. Luke felt joy when he saw Leia once again. Ben stood up once again when the message ended.

"You must learn the ways of the Force if you're to come with me to Alderaan." Ben told Luke.

"Alderaan? I'm not going to Alderaan!" Luke objected. "I've got to go home!"

"I need your help, Luke. She needs your help." Ben explained. "I'm getting too old for this sort of thing.

"I can't get involved!" Luke continued to protest. "I've got work to do! Look, I can take you as far as Anchorhead. You can get a transport there to Mos Eisley."
