Chapter 4
The Meryton Assembly
Night came and with it the dance, Darcy was upset and tired as soon as he arrived that morning and he already had to attend a dance, luckily it was a small county, he hoped that the number of marriageable and overwhelming mothers that abounded in London would be less here. Darcy was not in the mood but had to put up with it for his friend Charles Bingley, who was always upbeat and gentle, if it weren't for the Bingley sisters, perhaps staying in Netherfield would be more pleasant for Darcy.
Another night Miss Bingley assumed her vibrant colors in the dress was favored to impress Darcy, and her snooty demeanor would outweigh the lack of magical quality; Caroline was an heiress but was still a Lian, as much as she wanted be of elite of society, she was unfavorable match, to unless the gentlemen were desperate for money. They were late to the dance precisely because of Caroline and to add to the burden, the music of the first dance was just ending when they made their entrance, immediately all eyes fell on them, how horrible to be scrutinized by everything the room, Darcy was about to release a spell to hide it but Bingley surely took a step and Darcy was no other way than to continue with him.
Mr. Bingley was handsome, had a gentlemanly appearance, a pleasant countenance, and simple, unaffected manners, a magician. His two sisters were beautiful women of undoubted elegance, without any magical qualities. His brother-in-law, Mr. Hurst, had almost no appearance of a knight, Hurts features were rougher, and he was a wolf. Darcy was the more distinguish in the group, who soon attracted the attention of the room by his supremacy, and he was a tall man, with handsome features and aristocratic bearing. A few minutes after Darcy entrance, the rumor was already circulating that he was a northern man of great power, a Hilmen, an aristocratic whose income was ten thousand pounds a year, the next heir to two wizarding houses.
The gentlemen declared that Darcy was a man of great bearing and great class; the ladies said that he was much more handsome than Bingley. Darcy looked quickly in the assembly, -the same thing- he thought and noticed the matrons with their daughters, few gentlemen similar to Hurts and even simpler, not so gallant or so wealthy, it was a simple county but people here were already taking accounts if of course they were already murmuring ... the typical, Darcy hoped that here he would not be known for his magic or properties, but he was wrong ... he resorted to his mask of haughtiness and petulance, and while he observed people without much interest he noticed she - what was that? Who was she?…. She had a wonderful magical trail… But there were no beings like that here?…. Darcy was informed about the area and the few families did not represent anything of interest, would she be a guest like him?
Darcy was admired for almost half the evening, until his manners caused such annoyance that they changed the course of his good reputation. People classified him as a proud man, who pretended to be above all others and showed his discontent with the environment around him; nothing saved him from appearing obnoxious and unpleasant and from being considered worthless compared to his friend Bingley.
Bingley quickly made friends with the leading people in the room; he was lively and frank, and didn't miss a single dance, he regretted that the party ended so early, and spoke of giving one himself at Netherfield. Such pleasant qualities spoke for themselves. What a difference between Charles and his friend! Mr. Darcy danced only once with girls of him group, refused to be introduced to any other woman, and spent the remainder of the evening wandering around the room.
Darcy preferred to continue observing, he saw another powerful magic trail but it was just as blurry, although without a doubt this was a magical creature just like the other one that was close to it; It seemed strange to him that their traces were not clear, they were designed to confuse, something unusual in the parties where people came to show themselves ...
Charles and his group were approached by Sir Lucas, he was a man to a certain extent common, similar to Bingley, a lot of charisma rather too much, Lucas present his wife, his daughters and sons, the latter had clearly defined they possessed qualities but their trace was low... two families more, one similar to the Lucas, the Pilmet, were as Darcy hear -so much noise barely allowed to hear- he thought
The other family were the Bennets, Darcy see more in detail this family, he noticed Mr. Bennet is a changing multi-magician, Bennet aura was clearly visible, the magic superiority over his neighbors was noticeable, however his wife had no qualities, his daughters –was five, if listen well the woman, who speak very quickly- the three eldest present in that moment are the girls with the blurred traces, that curious the father was clearly noticeable but the daughters were not.
Darcy sharpened his observation and managed to perceive that the eldest was a Fairy, other was a magician, but could not clearly distinguish the second, seemed to be like her father, but he was not sure. Darcy felt a strong blink they were blocking him, he followed the source and clearly Mr. Bennet had cast a changing spell but not in shape, Bennet changed their auras to those of the three young ladies, now they look different magic qualities than before, both men looked at each other once more. Darcy nodded to the older one in form respect,
A question struck him out of his mind –– Do you dance Mr. Darcy?–– was Mrs. Bennet
––Not if I can help it–– he replied dryly, turning away, which displeased the ladies, but greatly pleased Mr. Bennet at least today he will stay away, he thought to himself.
––But what a rude man–– said Mrs. Bennet upset whit Darcy's cut, Jane tried to appease her mother, but was unnecessary, Mrs. Bennet was pleasent went on to praise the Mr. Bingley that requested Jane's hand to a dance, and then kindly continued with the introductions.
Thomas Bennet breathed, he managed for the moment to keep his daughters away from that Darcy, he remembered him; Darcy was present at the last meeting of the King's Men, he was not one of them yet, Darcy was still among those who could one day be like him. But the difference was that Darcy would surely do, being Hilmen, of the few young Hilmen that existed. Thomas Bennet remembered that Darcy accompanied a very old man who clearly lived even by his magical quality, that man not look like a father, perhaps he was a Grandfather, also recalled that it was presumed Darcy would inherit 2 magic houses, such power in the hand of a single man, however he did not yet have the distinctive of any house means that he had not yet been named the King's man. Bennet does not like such powerful men, the more power they had, the more eager to maintain it and the less scruples to achieve it.
On the other hand, Elizabeth's thought was different about Darcy, that gentleman was very intriguing to her, he was not the same as Mr. Bingley or Hurst, he looked very different and not only physically, he was obviously more handsome that others, and with a lot of bearing, but there was something else, what was that different? It seemed enigmatic, powerful, she could not finish capturing it, she does not know the concealment spell had a second effect, she couldn´t perceive the other people magic quality while she was using it.
––Come, Darcy–– Bingley said ––You have to dance. I can't bear to see you standing there alone with that stupid attitude. You better dance. ––
––Let me Charles I'm fine––
––You shouldn't be so picky and picky–– Bingley complained. ––For more than you want! On my word, I've never seen so many lovely girls as tonight; and there are some that are especially pretty––
––You're dancing with the only pretty girl in the room–– said Darcy, looking at the eldest Bennet.
––Oh! She is the most beautiful creature I have ever seen! But right behind you is sitting one of her sisters who are very pretty and she would bet very nice. Let me ask my partner to introduce her to you––
––What do you say? –– Darcy turning around, he raised his gaze and looked at Elizabeth for a moment, he saw her once again that changing aura, those eyes, their gazes met, and he immediately took his eyes away, remembered the man's severe and hard gaze, so he said coldly: ––She's not bad, although she's not pretty enough to tempt me; and I'm not in the mood to pay attention to young women who have been neglected by others. You better go back to your partner and enjoy their smiles because you are wasting time with me––
––As you want–– said Charles and walked away
Darcy felt an intense gaze on him, it was practically a hot dart burning his neck, once again he looked those green eyes were looking at him with intensity, there was fire in them, but instantly they were ice, she without letting look at him, way close to him accompanied by her friend, she looked at him more closely, she smiled in a challenge, and her eyes showed fire once more, -Would She has heard me? It was not possible, and well if her did better like that, her father clearly wanted i keep away of them- feel overwhelmed was not enough, he thought for a moment he was the victim of a spell, but once again she hid and turned away
Darcy change of place to distract himself but he looked Elizabeth once more, and noticed how she was doing a spell on two drinks, she definitely had magic but she was not a magician any. He couldn't help it and he tried to understand what he had before him: Bennet? He had read about it, in this family there were magical qualities, but with the exception of the father, none were outstanding, that was what the record said but it was obviously it was not true. The girls were deliberately hidden, rare but he understood it, many ladies a single man and far from society, it will mean that Mr. Bennet did not have the family support for the protection of these girls. -Hidden jewels – smiled - Bennet definitely is hiding his jewels –
The dance ended and the comments began
––What a great night you had, Mr. Bingley has definitely fallen in love with you dear Jane! –– Mrs. Bennet commented
––Oh mother you say we have barely met him––Jane response
––I know what I say little one he has fallen in love with you, but what horror with his pedantic and rude friend––
––Ohhhh yes, mother can you believe that she declared Lizzie tolerable–– Lydia squealed, although Elizabeth was not her mother's favorite, she felt very offended by her daughter, no one could despise her daughters, only her, she was outraged and said
–– It is definitely a horror that man, even with his 10,000 pear years, is hardly tolerable, he is unbearable––
They all laughed and chatted until they got home where each one went to their rooms, the next day was quiet full of comments about the assembly they had had, however Elizabeth was in a bad mood but she masked it, she felt hurt because that gentleman had her despised, who did he think he was to despise her in that way -Hateful-
