Sara sat spinning the spoon around her cup looking deep in contemplation when Grissom walked into the kitchen. "You ok honey?" Grissom tilted his head to one side.
Sara looked up "How's Jim?" It had been a tough few days with the shootout that kept them all busy but when it became apparant Jim was going to have to fire one of his own, things just seemed worse. Grissom shrugged as he walked over and poured himself his own cup of tea
"He'll be ok." He didn't say anymore and watched as Sara nodded. "Where's Greg?"
"His landlord called, he's gone over to check the apartment. Looks like he may be able to move back in soon." Sara smiled at the relieved look on Grissom's face. "Don't look like that!" She laughs. "I think you're going to miss your little nerd buddy."
"No." He tells her unconvincingly, he'd grown to enjoy Greg's company and they both knew it. Although he would be definitely grateful to have his quite life with Sara and Hank back, she gives him that knowing Sidle smirk and he shrugs again.
"I was thinking…" Sara starts.
"Well you're a clever woman Sara" Grissom interrupts playfully and she shoots him a look that he'd be afraid of if he couldn't see the humour in her eyes.
"Hey! If you don't want to know what's on my mind."
Sara picks up her tea and walks over to the sink to leave the spoon and goes to walk out only for Grissom to reach out and wrap his hand gently around her wrist. "I always want to hear what's on your mind." She rises an eyebrow at him in challenge, there have been times when that has not always been the case "Always." He says firmly as if he could read her mind.
"I think we should stop hiding this." She says with a hint of nervousness in her voice.
"Yeah?" He offers a cautious smile.
"Yes."
Still with his hands on her wrist he pulls her towards him and places a light kiss on her forehead. "How is this going to work?"
Sara places her cup on the counter and wraps her arms around Grissom and rests her head on his shoulder. "I was hoping you had a plan for that."
Grissom just laughs in response and entwines their hands together. "No plan. I don't think it needs any grand announcement, besides Greg, Jim and Catherine already know."
"And Ecklie." Sara mumbles into his shoulder and he just laughs in response. "So no grand announcement we just stop hiding."
"We just stop hiding." He says firmly and then glances at the watch on his wrist. "Now, honey. I think it's time for bed."
She gives him another Sidle smirk and looks him in the eye "Because you're tired and not because Greg's out?"
He pulls her out of the kitchen towards the stairs "I think I got over Greg being in the house a few weeks ago." Sara just laughs and allows herself to be led to bed.
… … … … … …
Sara was nervously pacing in the kitchen "Are you ready Darlin'?" Grissom leans against the doorway. He walks towards her and takes her hands. "Sara, if you're not ready we don't this. But, nothings going to change. It's not like I'm going to be bending you over anything at work…" Sara blushes as she remembers Grissom bending her over that morning after she shared her wish to reveal their relationship. "I'm a private person Sara. That's not going to change."
She just nods and smiles weakly at him. "Let's go then." They stop by the lounge on the way out. "Greg, we're heading into work. Do you want a ride?"
"No, it's ok. I'm meeting Curtis in the morning for breakfast to talk about the apartment." Greg replied as he sat on the couch reading a magazine. Sara nods and leaves Greg to prepare for work in his own way. It was only as they were leaving did he have the thought that maybe they were leaving together, only for him to shake the thought off. There's no way they meant that they were leaving together.
But leave together they did. She slid into the passenger seat of Grissom's Mercedes and for the first time they rode into work as a couple. It was a quiet ride both content to sit in silence. It wasn't an awkward or uncomfortable silence, just one of quiet contemplation. Despite his assurances that everything would be ok he too was nervous about how the relationship would be received. He once told Warrick he was a ghost and then Catherine told him to pull his head out of the microscope because a family was forming around him and she was right. But, they were about to introduce a major change to that family and he hoped it was going to be ok.
They pulled up at the lab and Grissom walked around the car and opened the door for Sara before clasping her hand in his and together they walked up to the door of the lab. He let go of her hand and held the door open before placing his hand firmly on her lower back as he walked her to the locker room. "See you in the briefing." He smiled at her and walked off to his own office to prepare for their shift.
Sara got ready before going to find a computer and checked her emails and some results for tests she'd been running on her cases before heading off to the breakroom. "Hey guys" Sara says as she walks over to the coffee pot and pours herself a cup. Greg looks over and sees that Sara still has her wedding ring on and tries to catch her eye. She chooses to ignore him and sits around the table sipping on her coffee. Catherine also catches a glimpse of her ring and smiles whereas Nick nudges Warrick and nods towards the ring on Sara's hand.
"Good Evening." Grissom walks in holding up assignment slips in his left hand showing that he too has his wedding ring on. "Catherine. B&E." He hands Greg the slip. "Greg, you and Sara have a smash and grab at the Tangiers. Nicky, Warrick you'll also be at the Tangiers for a pair of trick rolls. If anyone needs me I'll be knee deep in paperwork in my office."
The team stood to leave and Sara smiles at Grissom as she walks out and he returns her smile with a wink as she leaves the room with Greg. Catherine is next to leave and just pats him on the arm in support as she passes and Grissom then follows her from the room.
"Are they wearing rings?" Nick turns to Warrick
"Uh yeah" He then starts laughing
"What?"
"Last week Griss and I picked Sara up from the dentists office."
"I remember."
"Yeah she was as high kite and she told me she just wanted to go Target and I said Griss would take her." He laughs at the memory before finishing "She told him of course he would because he's a good husband. I just thought it was the meds."
Nick laughs "I guess she just slipped up, but you know what this means right? This isn't a new thing, it's not like they left work yesterday and got married."
… … … … … …
"You and Grissom left your rings on." Greg states matter of factly as he slides into the drivers seat, surprised that Sara tossed him the keys as they left.
"I know." She says firmly. "It's intentional Greg."
"You're telling people?" He's surprised, living with them as he had, he'd quickly realised that state secrets were less well guarded than Grissom and Sara's.
"No." She replies softly. "We're just not hiding anymore."
"Fair enough."
… … … … … …
Grissom and Sara didn't see each other again for the rest of the day and Sara's grateful for that, the lab rumour mill is already going wild with speculation over the matching gold bands that she and Grissom are wearing without giving them any more fuel for the fire. She's running some tests when Nick finally catches up with her "Hey, it looks like our trick roll victims maybe your suspects."
"Yep." Sara nods as she continues to stare at the screen in front of her "And I'm pretty sure they're the suspects for Cath's B&E at the sporting goods store."
"Makes sense. The stuff in the room all looked brand new." Nick shuffles uncomfortably for a second and it's his nervousness that causes Sara to look up "You and Grissom?"
"Yeah?" She pauses to allow for him to ask the question he so desperately wants to ask only for his question to be cut off by the beeping on Sara's computer "Looks like we got a match. You coming?"
It's such a sudden change it takes Nick a moment to process what's happening "Yeah." His questions can wait although he suspects that the answers won't be easy to get.
In the end it's simple. Dumb and Dumber lost all the money that Dumb had saved for his wedding and instead of admitting the mistake to his fiancé he ropes in the future best man and goes on a crime wave to recoup the loss before celebrating with booze and hookers in true Vegas fashion.
… … … … … …
Sara is putting her things away in her locker laughing with the boys about their ridiculous case when Grissom sticks his head in the door "Are you ready to head home?" He directs the question straight at Sara who nods and pulls her bag out the locker and shuts the door.
"Uhh…" She looks at Warrick and Nick who are back to staring at them like something weird Grissom left in the communal fridge "See you tonight guys." Sara walks out the room and walks down the corridor with Grissom who has his hand firmly planted on the small of her back.
