Chapter 7
Of the planned to the unexpected
Jealousy ate her, Caroline felt threatened, and she was not going to allow the Bennets to approach her family, for years she had cast her net to secure Darcy, she had been trained to be a great lady, her father had strived to guarantee her future, the Bingleys were women with excellent dowry, and their brother with a formidable inheritance, forged in trade, their money had brought them closer but had not given them the desired breakthrough in the elite society of England.
His father's desire was be part of the English aristocracy, he had managed to marry a lady with magic ascendant, due to social norms he could not be gentleman of the aristocracy until he had a property and became a landowner, he could not do it in life; but he trained his children to make it and live like that. Louise Hurts the eldest of the Bingleys had approached with her marriage to Hurts, he was a wolf and his family despite being noble was not closely linked to the first circles, Bingley still did not acquir a property, and for Caroline, none of that was enough, she wanted to belong and be respected by society.
Caroline thought about doing better, she could take advantage of her brother's friendship with Darcy to do better. She would become Mrs. Darcy, she would be part of it and because of the status of the Darcy family everyone would respect her, she didn't feel that not having a magical quality was a limitation for her. She knew that Darcy did not need him, any woman could give him an heir with magical qualities being who he was, so he could marry wherever he wanted, and nothing better than her to be Mrs. Darcy, a tenacious, beautiful, strong and intelligent woman, that Bennet who was a insignificant not come to displace her.
She was determined then to meet those Bennets, detect their weaknesses and drive them away, it would be easy and she was determined, with that objective she decided to invite Miss Jane Bennet for tea. In another house just as determined was Mrs. Bennet to relate Bingley to her beloved Jane, and that tea was the perfect opportunity, therefore observing that the clouds were put she sent Jane on horseback and not in a carriage, if it rained a lot it should stay and if it got wet even better. Jane did not argue and followed the suggestion to her mother, but Elizabeth was indignant with the proceeding, when dinner time arrived Jane did not return, because on her way to tea with the Bingley sisters, the rain broke out and she got wet taking a cold.
Jane could perfectly avoid getting wet and she tried, but she could not simply arrive dry because it would make it clear that she could control the water and the concealment spell that her father insisted they use would be meaningless, the night was an argument between the patriarch Bennet and his wife, because she was pleased but he was furious that his daughter had to spend the night there. In Netherfield another person was very disgusted with this, Caroline had to feign sympathy and also attend to Jane, which although she changed as soon as she got wet in the rain gave her a fever, so she could not send her back while it continued to rain would leave her bad as hostess.
However, Caroline wasted no time and was able to rescue, Bennets girls had maternal uncles active in the trade, Longbourn was linked to some man of the family, therefore Lord Bennet was a knight for the magical lineage but did not have absolute control of the property, she also knew that they had been trained at home by their parents, without a governess. -The Bennets were fewer, they were nothing, they could hardly be called country ladies, Caroline thought, which made her feel safe, but she did not like how willing her brother was to tend to Jane Bennet in her suffering, much less did she like him than the next morning brought another Bennet.
Lizzie against the guidance of her mother but under the permission of her father, who thinking that it was better for her to be with Jane in Netherfield, appeared that morning to attend to her sister and even when she could fly easily she did not, she walked all the way all to maintain the spell of concealment, she arrived with her wolf exalted by the exercise. Anyone with a hint of magical knowledge could notice Elizabeth with it in the shine of her loose hair, the blush of her face and the barely agitated breathing, none of that went unnoticed by the knights; however the observation of the ladies was different they saw a messy look and their dress was not as impeccable as it should be.
As soon as Elizabeth was directed with her sister, the Bingley ladies began to throw their poison
––Oh but that manners, her dress completely muddy
––And her hair completely messy
––Never a lady must be so inapprehensible
––Walking alone in the countryside, that recklessness and lack of restraint
Bingley trying to shut them up said ––I didn't see any of that, I find it formidable that he came to see his sister ––
––It was more than unnecessary, it is an absolute lack of manners, you do not believe Mr. Darcy?, you would like your sister to walk like this in the countryside? –– Caroline continues
He looked at her ––Certainly not, but it is undeniable that she shows devotion to her older sister –
Caroline did not satisfy the comment, so he went on and on criticizing the manners of the countryside and pointing out his lack of sense.
Darcy for his part was abstracted in his own thoughts, it was notorious that the Benet ladies were still hiding, Miss Bennet being a fairy could have controlled the weather and avoided getting wet, and Miss Elizabeth was able to fly and magically groom herself before entering, however her nature was such that she could not avoid her obvious features, the wise that both Bingley and Hurts today must have perceived them, thought, Why they acted like this? Would be designed by their mother to attract the attention of the knights or obeyed their protective father, both scenarios were possible; however the last of them only corresponded if Mr. Bennet perceived them as a danger, a danger? He is a danger? It´s was a joke, usually Darcy was the one who fled from the married mothers, avoided being prey, not being the hunter, at least not of women.
Bingley kindly offered Elizabeth to stay to take care of Jane, as the Jones apothecary who had attended her recommended rest for 2 days...
She had to meet with her hosts for dinner, made very uncomfortable for her, at times she was tempted to cast a spell against Miss Bingley, who believed herself superior, apparently in the conception of this lady only money gave the status, how wrong it was, they were daughters of a landowning knight and not just any one their ancestors were important, Elizabeth subtly and perhaps ambiguously let it be seen that all the Bennets had magical qualities, they were ladies and if they were not rich but they were not lian.
Darcy couldn't help but smile, he noticed how Elizabeth left Caroline baseless, but him smile was read by Elizabeth as part of Miss Bingley's mockery, on the other hand Bingley evaded her sister's comments or did not give her consequence, Mr. Hurts did not pay attention to her after he did not value ragout as the best food, the whole set bothered Elizabeth and already unwilling to endure more end the dinner was excused.
After attending to her sister this time without magic, she could not with her frustration, she felt limited by not using magic to get Jane out of that condition, hide and control her emotions and put her to the limit. Once her sister fell asleep Elizabeth went down to the library she had to find a place where she could control her emotions and did not venture outside, if she lay down to sleep her energy could wreak havoc in the room, it had already happened before, she knew that even dreaming that her magic can shoot, break or destroy things without being conscious, she needs to expend her energy and calm down … but her magic is felt by others in the house.
