Chapter 80: Weight of Punishment

~Hallway~

Aichi was walking through the hallway to get to his next class when he heard something that caught his attention.

"Hey have you heard about the new Nurse in the nurse's office?"

"Oh yeah, that child looking nurse."

"He seems like a real childe than a nurse to be honest though."

"Oh you've seen him?"

"Yes, I was feeling drowsy this morning and went to get some medicine to help with my cold, since from what I feel it is becoming one. So I asked the nurse if I should rest or drink something."

"So is the rumor true? Do they give weird medicine?"

"He sure did, the medicine has a weird taste and effect, but then after a while of resting my body feels rejuvenated as if I was not sick before. Although it taste, looks, and effects weirdly, it actually cured me."

"So the rumors that it feels weird or makes you weird is true?"

"Yeah I think it's true since that is what happened to me, but it's working super effectively so I think it's fine."

"He seems to be an assistant from his looks but from the medicines and his advices I am convinced he might be a new nurse."

"Wait, I remembered the rumor said that he just might be more than he looks, because even if his appearance is of a child, his voice sounds like it is for a grown up adult.

"Yes I do remember hearing him having that kind of voice when I talked to him."

"Maybe he is really the new nurse since the nurse hasn't been that present much."

"Well we won't know for sure."

"I wanna see it too! This little nurse they have been talking about."

"Let's go after class then!"

"Yeah!"

At that instant Aichi face palmed, knowing who he was with this morning and the fact that there are rumors going around about a new little nurse, he immediately knew who is behind it.

But something caught his attention, weren't they popular in this school, surely some already has their pictures, then again they were just recently showing up so it is possible that not everyone has heard or seen them, at that instant Aichi remembered the reaction from the members from the archery club, not everyone knows them yet, so just maybe it is the fact that not everyone has heard or knows them yet.

With that away from his mind, he thought that it might be best to check the nurses office right now and check for himself, since they have some time before the next class, it would be best to scold them to not show themselves to other students, thankfully not everyone knows their faces and only a few people knows, he understood that some knows it but some only knows from rumors and not from their faces. Something that is going on and on in his mind.

~Nurse's Office~

When he successfully reached the office without a second thought "Sorry for the intrusion!" Aichi opens the door to the infirmary, only to find no one inside, there were no students, no Touken Danshi, nor even signs that they were here, he looked at the medicine cabinet and it seems like it doesn't look out of place though he doesn't exactly know how it would look like arranged but at the least it doesn't look like it was rummaged through.

The sheets from the bed and the area is clean probably Shokudaikiri cleaning the whole place and the table of the nurse seems clean, perfectly nothing seems out of place and it seems that knowing they probably finished what they did here to not catch any more attention than they already have they finally decided to leave, is what Aichi is thinking seeing the empty office.

But alas the most sure answer to his questions is that he should check on with them later when they meet up at the usual place, there maybe he could get an answer, as to why they did that, and what they were doing here, though if it is Yagen, he already knew the answer, but this is just for confirmation on their side.

~After Class~

Walking through the hallways ready to leave he heard gossips about the certain new nurse at the infirmary that he heard from earlier "Hey have you heard about the little nurse from the nurse's office?"

"Oh yes, the supposed new nurse?"

"Yeah, apparently there wasn't even a new nurse."

"Oh yeah some of the teachers said that it was impossible because the current school nurse hasn't even quit or fired, so how was it possible that there was a new nurse."

"So when a teacher and students checked the infirmary this afternoon, there is no such person around. There were even no sign that there were any people before."

"Uwah, that's so creepy."

"I know right, what if that little nurse was a ghost or a yokai!" Aichi thought that in a sense they weren't exactly wrong at the latter part.

"That would be plausible, I mean nobody has seen him aside from the nurse's office, maybe he is a nurse that died or something! Or maybe a child that dreamt of being a nurse."

"Quite possibly that he is a yokai or ghost, I mean, even the medicines that he gave out to the other students that saw him when the teachers investigated said that he gives out weird looking and has weird effects but working medicines! Added to the fact that his body and his voice are not matching!" He strongly agrees on the last statement.

"It could be a other world type of medicine!" Aichi wants to correct this part so bad along this lines, nope he just likes to experiment on stuff that made them weird looking, tasting and effecting but working, though sometimes it won't but it's a work in progress.

"Could be, but we would never know."

"I personally would like to see though!"

"Me too, we weren't able to see him sadly."

"Let's just wait maybe there will come a time that he would play again."

"Maybe…"

Yup, he really needs to talk to them, surely for Yagen he might have been interested to see this nurse's office as it has such variety of medical tools, equipment's, and medicines. With this thoughts, he hurried to meet up with them as seeing the infirmary he knew that Shokudaikiri might have been dragged there.

~At the usual Place~

When he successfully reached the area, he noticed that the three acted like normal and that as if everything went smoothly on their end, so Aichi decided to keep silence and wait for them, and looking at the three, especially Yagen looks like something good has happened, Shokudaikiri looks like he wants to say something but is hesitant but his looks is like he did nothing wrong but feels like want to say something but is deciding not to say anything, and Ookurikara looks like he cannot be bothered and annoyed.

That alone, that kind of atmosphere around the three looks like they had some adventure on their end, in the back of Aichi's mind he thought that he might need to understand the whole area of the school and then try and locate their area by understanding their location. But it will still be too late after the rumor has spread they might not be in that location anymore but at the least he can go and check out the area where the rumor has started. And it will be a good practice for him to analyze an area for friends and foes alike.

While keeping that in mind he looks at them from time to time with silence, because of that Yagen and Shokudaikiri became uneasy at the silence, their master staring at them from time to time with silence is kind of unsettling in a way, alas when they were already half way through thinking that they cannot anymore "Aichi-sa-" Shokudaikiri was the first one to speak, but was cut off by Yagen.

"Aichi-sama." Yagen called out as they all stop from their tracks and wait for Aichi to respond to Yagen's call of his attention. On the other hand Ookurikara looks like he has nothing to do with it and thus he continued on walking but the three stayed behind with of course Shokudaikiri trying to stop him which did nothing.

"Yes…" He answers back, it seems he was right, from his silence and looking back and forth to them it finally got through, that they are guilty of something.

Yagen sighs curling up his arms "I was actually planning on telling you back at the citadel bu-" but he was cut off mid-sentence.

"Then let us hurry back!" Aichi walks faster as the other two followed after.

~At Aichi's Room~

Inside his room, there on the table sits Aichi beside Mina and in front of them are Yagen and Shokudaikiri, with the exemption of Ookurikara. Knowing Ookurikara, there are tons of reasons, but the 2 most important is that one it will be hard for him to cooperate and two because even though he says he doesn't care but he does follow orders.

In other words, he was sure to have done his orders when these two were in the infirmary at that time, adding to the fact that when they came back the first thing that Ookurikara did was report to them everything that happened. Although they knew it was mostly Yagen but from how Shokudaikiri was about to speak up earlier, it only means that he was with Yagen at that time he was in the infirmary and stayed there, or Shokudaikiri must have felt responsible for Yagen.

Was what Aichi had thought had happened and what better way to ask them to clarify some things about the events of today. "You two must have understood the reason of why you were called out here, correct?" Mina started of the conversation.

"Yes." The two answered.

"So-" When Mina was about to start she was cut off by Yagen.

"I was the only one that they saw in the infirmary." They were caught off guard by Yagen's confession.

"Yagen…" Shokudaikiri called out his name in surprise to what he did.

"I did not ask them to come to the infirmary and instead I waited for the time when it was time to head off there to investigate. Personally I think Shokudaikiri has caught up to what I was thinking. And so when we did get there, I got fascinated at this so called infirmary of this modern era or in this case this so called school." Yagen started the conversation while the three listened intently to his explanation and story.

"I took the time to examine the whole place while Shokudaikiri was waiting for me he cleaned up all of my traces in that room, as I was getting absorbed at the knowledge that I was getting we did not notice the presence of a student that is in need of medical help." Yagen shifted his gaze from Shokudaikiri for a moment and then back at Mina and Aichi.

"I told Shokudaikiri that I will be fine on my own and continue on with the investigation and I will take full responsibility for this incident." Yagen was cut off from his explanation.

"Was it true Shokudaikiri?" Mina asked Shokudaikiri and made Yagen paused from his words as they wait for his answer "Answer truthfully."

"Yes it was true. I only stayed there for a while and when a student came in I was already outside and was continuing my investigation with Ookurikara, and afterwards after some time had passed I heard students were speaking about the new little infirmary nurse and thought that it might be time to fetch him before things get too out of hand." Shokudaikiri told his side of the story in a short and brief explanation.

Mina sighs as he asked for Yagen to continue up to his story "I took up some medicines from the cabinet-" Mina's smiled at Yagen as he pauses for a moment, Aichi knew in an instant that she did not like what she just heard and what was going to end up with that "and then tested them and let the student drink it, made them rest and heard that the medicine were effective." At that Mina's smile twitched.

"Knowing that my medicine worked I got too absorbed in making and trying off other medicine formulas, to my surprise a lot of other student and staffs go in for a checkup so in the end they end up ingesting the medicines I made to see the effects and also to blend in as a infirmary nurse, and hearing the result just got me intoxicated more in the knowledge of surpassing my previous works and even getting the effects to at an outstanding result. If it wasn't for Shokudaikiri calling me out I wouldn't have stopped of course before leaving we cleaned the area to remove traces and took the medicines that I formulated and left the room." Yagen swallowed, he was dead, for sure he is dead.

The three sweats at the suffocating dooming aura that is coming out of Mina "So let me get this straight, you got caught up in enjoying making new experiments, forgetting your mission, using the students and staffs from the school as your test subject, using the infirmary as your laboratory as if your own, and getting yourself exposed." Mina chuckled "I guess you know what this means… right?"

Yagen, Shokudaikiri and even Aichi looked away, she is definitely seething with rage "I can't believe that of all the toudans you would prioritize your pursuit of knowledge than your mission. Yagen Toushirou! As of this day, you are to not lay a finger, a hand, a foot, nor a strand of your hair near the infirmary of the citadel. You are to not make experiments for new concoctions nor medicine inside or outside until further notice unless it is an emergency!"

She then turned to Shokudaikiri that made him jumped "You are to not enter the kitchen for a week! For letting go of such personal interest inside a mission that has made almost of an exposure to the three of you! This is an intolerable behavior this should not have been let passed. I do understand the personal reason behind this, but using it to other people that they do not have consent of." Mina continues on sighing putting a hand on her head she closes her eyes for a moment to think.

Afterwards "I know that you wouldn't do such reckless thing as to give them something that you are unsure of what could the effect be, but still…" Mina sighs once again. "What if I added that you cannot go on any missions?" Yagen was about to speak up but instead he looked away and bit the lower part of his lip. "An even greater punishment… you are to not get close nor get near to talk, nor even see your shadow at Aichi for a whole week?"

"M-Mina-nee?" Aichi and Shokudaikiri were both surprised at the heavy punishment that Mina was giving out to Yagen but as for Aichi he was more confused than surprised at the latter punishment.

But Mina raised her hand to stop the two from further speaking "It's just a whole week… I'm sure you can manage…" Mina spoke as if taunting Yagen.

Yagen who is of course has no place to retort stood up and bowed "Forgive my unannounced activity that didn't have consent and is out of bounds from the initial mission that I was given."

"Don't worry, right about now my words have already sipped through your bones. My two addition were something I will add if things got way out of hand. So your real punishment will be the very first one that I have mentioned and if I did find out you have other disrespected orders that was not mentioned at this discussion that we have right now, see to it that I will be adding one by one those punishments." Mina stood up from her seat. "That is all dismissed."

"Yes…" the two answered with their words having weight within it and left the room.

Mina sat again and sighed again "If you do not threat them, they might repeat the same incident so I made sure and clear to them that the last was a last blow if they ever repeat it. I'm really surprised about Yagen but I'm sure he is also careful on his movements and I'm sure if things get worse he was sure to leave and also do something, it just so happens that Shokudaikiri was able to stop him. I know his reasons for doing it and I'm sure Shokudaikiri too, I mean he wouldn't have let him do it if he knew he was not careful or if it's just something for fun." Mina paused noticing Aichi's expression.

"It's fine Aichi-kun… But with what I have always told you, you should know how to assert authority, man up as their master don't be too soft, in war nothing comes from being too soft, outside of war yes but on the battlefield it's a different story, you…" Mina stopped on her words noticing the sudden pause Aichi looks at her with confusion, trying to stray away from the conversation Mina instead pats Aichi's head to comfort him.

With that another confusion sprouted on his mind but he can't pass the first one and proceeded on asking about it "I know… but there are some things that are confusing me, first is I just don't understand what you meant by the last punishment, I understand that I am their master but I am sure that -."

Mina froze for a second and tried to stray him from the question "So, what do you plan on doing tomorrow?" she immediately changed the subject of their conversation.

"Oh tomorrow?" Aichi rummages through his phone "I have to go tomorrow and at Sunday too so that our class could start with what should we do with the cultural festival."

"Oh yeah, it's that time of month… So have you guys even started on what you should do?" Mina asks seemingly a little excited about it.

"To be honest we have started but there was no result so before the time to start the cultural festival, our homeroom teacher allowed us go to school even on Saturdays and Sundays unless it is a holiday to start thinking of what to do. And if ever we have done so, we could have an early start so that if we finish early we have less stress if ever something is a miss." Aichi explained.

"I see, well then, even if it is a Saturday and Sunday there will still be people coming for other reasons, one is for club practices so the toudans will have to be careful when investigating the area." Mina stood up once again and proceeded on the door of the room. "Well you best finish up homework and studying, I'll ask someone to call you when dinner is ready."

~After Dinner –Garden-~

"I was listening to your conversation." Konnosuke slowly walked along the hallways trying to catch the attention of the Miko who is lost in thought sitting on the veranda silently gazing at the starry night sky unmoving.

"Why weren't you there though?" Mina asked as she composes herself who failed to read the coming presence.

"I was examining the toudans when they heard the news." He sat down near Mina searching for the one thing that mused her while sitting on the veranda.

"I see, did you notice anything different?" Mina asked now looking at Konnosuke.

"They surely look shaken at this incident." Konnosuke did not turn to Mina but he could understand that gesture. "There is something you want to say to me… right?"

"It's good that they are shaken… with this they will learn from this." Mina smiles laying her head on the veranda's pillar. "Today, Aichi-kun asked me why the toudans would feel much more threatened to the punishment of not seeing their master."

"Oh…" was only Konnosuke's answer. A pause from the two as toudans came and greeted them before leaving the area. "So… how did you answer him?" This time he looked at Mina.

"I couldn't answer him…" was her immediate answer.

"I figured…" Konnosuke stood up and waited for Mina for her consent for him to jump on her lap. Upon showing a gesture that he could she sat on her lap. "Touken Danshi and their Saniwa have a difficult relationship, toudans are loyal to their master that one is a fact but it goes much deeper and more complicated. More than love, more than family, more than friends, or even allies or just warriors you deploy in the battlefield, it is complex that good could turn into bad, yeah… even I can't explain it." Konnosuke chuckled as Mina caresses his fur.

"Hmm… or a partner that is one with you?" Mina added.

"So asking something like that to you, with that kind of experience … that … incident that happened in the past. You wouldn't be able to answer it. Why didn't you just answered that they were loyal to him and being forbidden to see him will make them feel that they were useless as a weapon and cannot be deployed because they couldn't follow an instruction… simple as that." Konnosuke looked up at Mina "That is the most simplest and closest and a fact answer too you know!" he scolded Mina.

"I froze up." Mina stopped biting her lip as she wears a painful expression on her face.

"You know that at that time you guys weren't at fault there right?" Konnosuke comforted.

"I know… but…" Mina stopped on her words as if eating it up.

"The others feel the same as you, you were all there. There is no use to think about something like that now for me." Konnosuke then jumped away from Mina's lap "I'm sure them showing up one by one to Aichi means something, must be fate?" Konnosuke then walked away as Mina silently enjoyed the night alone.

Mina nodded to Konnosuke's words "I wonder how I will face it…"

"Well, get ready for it, if you think those are signs, surely this time you lot would be able to do something. That is if you think it's all your fault and want to repent about that incident."
