I'm honestly trying, I've started this chapter over a dozen times by now I just don't really want to participate in the aspects of adult life right now. But know that I love you all.
Matt Murdock- Daredevil
--
He had just finished a court case the first time he "saw" her.
The rain had started the night before and continued washing away the sins of Hell's Kitchen as he was also trying to do. After a long night of crime fighting and a longer day of trying to legally do the same he was more than ready for a beer with Foggy and a bit of sleep before doing it all again. They had been rounding the corner discussing their next case on their way to the bar when Matt stopped dead in his tracks.
There she was standing in the middle of the sidewalk with her arms in the air, face turned up, dancing in the rain. She was completely soaked with her hair stuck to her face as she continued to dance like no one was watching.
He had never seen anyone more beautiful.
Foggy was smiling as he began explaining what he was seeing from under the safety of their umbrella. His voice was joyful as he was describing the random, happy, girl. Without too much of a thought Matt steps out from the umbrella and into the rain walking closer to the girl.
As if sensing him she pauses her dancing and turns to look at him. She steps closer and takes his hands before causing them both to spin in the rain as she giggles at the feeling of freedom. They spin a few times before Foggy walks up and breaks the moment, warning them about getting sick. She laughs it off but agrees that he's probably right. Taking one last look at them she hugs Matt and thanks him for dance before turning around and running back in the rain and across the street.
The remainder of the night Matt and Foggy go back and fourth on pretty girls and the rudeness of interrupting what is clearly a moment.
He found himself thinking about her constantly over the next few weeks until he finally saw her again.
It had been around 10:30 when he came upon some guys clearly hassling someone just trying to get home. He threw his first baton as she threw her first fist, within minutes the only sounds you could hear was their breathing. At least until she giggled.
She thanked him for his help then turned to leave, pausing she looks over her shoulder and tells him that she hopes to see him around again only the next time she hopes he isn't wearing his mask. Smirking she tells him that his face is too cute to be covered, before continuing on her walk home. Naturally he follows her home, to make sure she gets there safely, and he continues to keep an extra special watch on her building for the next few nights.
The next time they run into one another is in his favorite coffee shop a few days later. He had been waiting for Foggy when her perfume came in through the door. After a few minutes had passed he figured that she didn't actually recognize him, but that feeling was short lived as she stepped in front of his table. She smiled as she asked to join him. Naturally he said yes. She slid in the seat before introducing herself to him. He had just told her his name as Foggy came in the door. Sensing that they had important things to do she politely excused herself, but not before leaning forward and whispering that she had been correct and he was too cute to hide behind a mask.
Seeing his surprise she tells him that her fire escape is open if he ever wants to come in to talk.
He honestly hadn't meant to see her the next time he did. It had been a little after 11 the next night when he had an encounter that he wasn't prepared for on the roof of the building next to hers. Having been fighting two guys at once he didn't hear a third throw a knife until it had been too late to fully dodge. He managed to finish the fight but he knew that he needed the bleeding to stop sooner rather than later. Without any real hesitation he climbed through her window into her apartment.
Trying to be as quiet as possible he was searching around her bathroom for her first aid kit when she opened her bedroom door. Taking one look at him she leads him to the kitchen and gets her kit out from under the sink. She doesn't stop to give him time to explain before she tells him to take his top off. After a pause and a bit of trouble he gets it off and shows her the damage. She takes a moment to look it over before seriously asking him if he trusts her. He hesitates for a second before taking off his mask and telling her yes.
Without wasting any time she presses her bare hand to his cut side. He felt it first before seeing the flux in color around her hand. Breathing deeper he sighs as all his pain is eased away. She goes to move her hand when he puts his over hers keeping them both in each other's space. Watching the emotions play out across his face she giggles and tells him that he's back in one piece. Slowly pulling her hand out from under his she turns and grabs the kettle off the stove. He sits there silently, rubbing the skin that had been severed only a minute ago before being put back together without even a scar to feel, as she goes about getting everything ready for tea.
Once prepared she turns back to him with a joke about paying attention to bad guys with knives and how he didn't need an excuse to come by and see her. He makes a follow up retort about how he would use any excuse to see her if he could actually see. She only pauses for half a second before telling him just because he couldn't see the same as everyone else doesn't mean that he can't see in a different way.
The kettle starts to whistle as she turns and begins filling cups leaving him to wonder how she knew everything that she did. Turning back around she places the cup in his hand before taking his other hand and leading him to sit on her sofa. They both sip their tea in silence for a minute before he asks her how she knew. Smiling she sets her cup on the coffee table and turns further to see him, she explains that he has micro tells and she knew the first time they met. Telling him that people that have secrets can generally tell when other people have secrets.
Feeling so relieved he doesn't even realize that he's leaning forward until his lips brush against hers. He begins to lean back and apologize as he feels her moving forward and her lips landing on his. They kiss slowly for a few minutes before she pulls back and reminds him that they both have work in the morning and he should really get some sleep if he plans on being any help to anyone the next day.
He reluctantly agrees with her before standing and moving to put his suit top and mask back on. She walks him to the window stopping him long enough to ask him about meeting for coffee in a few hours. Smiling he leans down and kisses her one more time before confirming their first of many official dates.
One year later she pulls him out to dance in the rain and he asks her to marry him.
Now whenever he's asked rainy weather is his favorite weather.
