Notes
Hey Reader, this is Worseman here, and here's the second chapter but this is a remake of the second chapter of my old fanfic, Sleepy Magician.
Keep this in mind; This fanfic is an AU (Alternative Universe) Story but as for Mahoka's story arcs, they remained to be the same but with a few or more changes. This story, as I said, focuses on many of my OCs in the story, and the storyline arcs will sometimes be separate from Mahouka's story arcs. As for their both character and power, I'm not going to reveal much about them as it will be revealed but in bits. Also, I had to warn you again that the next chapters are very confusing that I post on so honestly, you might not be able to understand them at all.
If you spot any grammar errors or spelling, I will try my best to improve my story.
Also, I have to be an asshole to address: If you hate this story so much, don't read it but if you dislike my writing on this story, I will abandon this if I want to.
Disclaimer
I did not own any characters from Mahoka Kouko no Rettousei series except my OC.
"As my brother said," added Miyuki, bowing without deceit, "This was all really just a misunderstanding. We are very sorry for bothering you all."
Mayumi took this time to step in as well, "Mari, it's fine already." Turning to Tatsuya with a smile, she asked, "Tatsuya-Kun, that really was just a demonstration, right?"
Kazuhiro would remember the name of Miyuki's brother.
"It is not prohibited for students to teach each other, but in terms of exercising magic, you are prohibited from executing it. This is taught in the first semester in the classroom. In terms of self-studying the exercise of magic, it's probably best to refrain."
Mari cleared her throat and spoke up, "... Since the President herself seems to be inclined…..I'm going to look the other way this time. Make sure this doesn't ever happen again."
Both groups straightened up and gave a bow without looking like bitter enemies. Mari turned around and began to walk away before turning her head to Tatsuya. "What's your name?"
"Class 1-E, Tatsuya Shiba," Tatsuya responded calmly as he moved his head up.
"I'll remember that name," Mari then walked away with Mayumi by her side.
Seeing the situation calmed, Kazuhiro began to walk but he eventually noticed Mari glaring at him with neither an upset nor hostile face. All he saw was her face covered with neutral. He felt nothing more than irritation and he thought that he could get away peacefully. However, since the most recent and small event involving Mari and Mayumi, he felt that it caught up to him. He would be called by Mari to apologize to her and Mayumi now. However, he was incorrect. They walked away while Mari turned her head back. He was dumbfounded but he does not care about this. He does want to go back home right now.
Mayumi sighed in the weariness that Mari did not push the small incident aside but she cannot blame Mari for being mad at Kazuhiro for being disrespectful to them. She was hoping for Mari to move on and forgot about it. However, at the same time, she wanted to know more about Kazuhiro and her thoughts on his sleeping habits. Mari noticed Mayumi who was also in her thoughts and cleared her throat to catch her attention. Mayumi snapped out of her thoughts to face Mari and asked, "Yes, Mari? Something wrong?"
"I cannot help to notice that you have a deep thought about the incident just now?" Mari asked Mayumi.
"Yes, including you glaring at Kazuhiro-Kun for the afternoon incident too," Mayumi added, causing Mari to sign in irritation.
"I know, but he was so rude to us when we met him," Mari admitted with a bit of irritation.
"Don't lose your cool, Mari, but It was not the first time for us to meet a rude student like him," Mayumi smiled. "Unlike any of the people that we met, I think that he could be interesting to meet with. So we should meet him when he feels ready."
"I hope I trust your judgment."
Evening
Shopping District, Hachioji, Tokyo
Kazuhiro did not want to listen to music for now as he was walking to take the train back to his home. It was an exhausting day involving encountering Mari and Mayumi, running late for his class lesson, and watching the nasty situation between Bloom and Weed Students. Before that, he should buy some dinner to eat outside first and then goes back home to sleep quietly since Mastao was probably going to be late.
As Kazuhiro was walking, he came across a familiar young man in his twenties with short dark brown hair and crimson red iris eyes. His attire consists of his light brown long coat over his white shirt covered by a dark brown vest with a golden button, dark brown long pants, and black shoes. His appearance does not stand out to catch everyone's attention even though he looks like a rejected detective in his thirties. He stopped at his track when the man noticed and smiled at him while waving. He sighed as he walked over to the person whom he recognized.
"Sora," Kazuhiro called the person's name.
"Hey, Kaz. How is your second day of school? Do you meet any beautiful girls and teachers that you recently had a crush on?" Sora asked happily.
"No, Sora, and don't think about dating either of them," Kazuhiro warned Sora, knowing his personality so well, "But anyway, what are you doing here? Are you supposed to be on the case with Genki and Masato?"
Kazuhiro knew the cause of Masato coming
"Yes, I am and I'm asking the lady a question related to the case," Sora replied happily with his confidence, pointing at the owner.
Kazuhiro turned his head around to see the cashier who was behind the counter and appeared to be a beautiful woman in her working uniform. He sighed in annoyance that Sora was fooling around during the case and not here to question, but to flirt with the owner. Although he admitted that the owner was pretty in his opinion.
Kazuhiro first met Sora four years before attending First High. However, the introduction was bizarre as Sora was dangling upside down with his foot being caught by a rope in front of Kazuhiro and Masato under the bridge. He nearly surprised them and almost gave Masato a heart attack only. The reason was he got threatened by the irritated magician who had enough of his flirting. It was probably because she was having her worst day and wanted to be left alone.
However, Since Sora enjoyed flirting with the female cashier, Kazuhiro chose to pretend to believe Sora. It was better than ruining Sora's mood and he could have some company to have a nice conversation.
Sora noticed Kazuhiro's current behavior, thinking something engrossing happened in school, and asked, "Kaz, you seem to be having trouble. Is it because you are having a problem at your school."
"No, I don't have any problem in school," Kazuhiro replied without any hesitation, "Except for some interesting incident."
"What kind of incident?" Sora asked curiously while smiling. "Is it involving my true love?"
When Kazuhiro was about to tell Sora about the incident, he noticed someone running toward them behind Sora and stepped aside, knowing the identity of the individual while confusing Sora.
"Why are you…"
"ORA!"
Sora flew forward and fell to the ground.
Kazuhiro turned his head around to see a young man in his twenties with dirty and spiky blonde ponytail hair and deep green iris eyes. His eyes were covered with his glasses. His attire consists of a light brown vest over his black long-sleeve shirt, light brown pants, and plain brown shoes. However, his attire was both stained with dirt and gave a horrible smell. Not only was he here, but Masato was also walking behind him.
"Nice kick, Genki," applauded Kazuhiro.
"Ouch, ouch," Sora whined while rubbing the spot of his back where it was kicked. He turned around to see Genki and Mastao and smiled. "Hey Genki and Masato, do you find…."
"Where the hell were you?!" Genki yelled at Sora furious while marching toward Sora and grabbed Sora's coat collar to lift him. "Do you have any damn idea how freaking hard and disgusting it would be without you in a garbage yard?!"
Masato walked over to Kazuhiro to stay away from the angry quarrel between Sora and Genki and began to ask with tiredness, "How is your school day?"
Kazuhiro pitched his nose to prevent from breathing a disgusting smell while moving away from the smelly Masato by one step. Masato smelled like expired burned food, but on the other hand, Genki smelled like the worst baby diarrhea dung. He almost passed out but managed to withstand it.
Genki continued to yell at Sora, "You should have called us that you already found evidence, but no, you just chose not to do it to spend whatever the hell you like!"
"Relax, Genki. I already sent evidence to the authority so they can handle the rest plus Izumi is with them in case things went wrong," Sora explained, calming Genki but he continued, "Jeez, you need to get a shower, Genki, because you smelled like baby diarrhea and no girl would like to date you if you stay that way."
Hearing the last word, Genki's face was increasingly red while his hand grasped tightly to Sora's collar. He then began to shake him violently while he roared loud and angrily, "ARGH! I'm going to shut your damn mouth for good!"
Masato and Kazuhiro sighed in annoyance and tiredness as they witnessed Genki shaking Sora violently while Sora slowly became dizzy without care.
What they did not get was why they were partners in the first place.
The duo always irritated each other many times which ended up with Sora being beaten up by Genki. It reminded them of the scene in the television show series or cinematic movie starring the protagonist and his partner and they were identical to them.
"Guys! Please stop! You're making a scene!" Masato shouted before rushing toward Sora and Genki to break up their argument.
Kazuhiro, on the other hand, did not do anything because he does not feel bothered to help Masato. However, he noticed some people looking at the fight with mixed expressions while the youngsters were taking a photo with their phone cameras. He felt embarrassed and looked away to ignore it while trying not to stand out too much.
'I want to go home…' Kazuhiro sighed in his thoughts.
From the other side of the street, Tatsuya and his friends witnessed Kazuhiro, Masato, Genki, and Sora when they finished their conversation about Erika's CAD. They were speechless at the bizarre scene and did not know how to describe it.
"Is that the guy who slept in the auditorium?" Erika asked, glancing at Kazuhiro.
"Yes, Erika, and it seems like he got a friend outside of our school," replied the glasses girl. "He acted differently apart from school."
"Really? He seems to be the same as how he was at school," Erika responded in a puzzle.
"She's right and he just stood there to watch the scene. I can't blame him for not wanting to be involved and seeing the guy do violence to that person," Leo agreed with Erika.
"He quite had an interesting group of friends," commented Miyuki.
Shizuku saw Kazuhiro for a third time: auditorium, hallway, and now the street. She could walk towards him to ask his name but she decided to ignore it as he was busy with his 'friend'.
The Following Morning
Tsuyoshi Household
Feeling drowsy from waking up, Masato yawned loudly while covering his mouth with his alarm clock ringing. He reached his hand to the clock and hit the top to stop its ringing. He rose and moved his legs out of his bed. He grabbed the clock from the table and moved it to his face to see it was six forty-five in the morning. He placed it back and stood up from his bed to stretch his body to ease his stiffness. Some part of his whole body was sore due to stopping the commotion between Genki and Sora. He should have done the same as Kazuhiro would have done the previous day.
After stretching, Masato walked to the door to go to the living room to cook breakfast for himself and Kazuhiro. As he opened the door, he stepped out to the living room and walked to the kitchen to cook, but his eyes spotted something on the table. He stopped and saw pieces of sandwiches on the plate and a cup of coffee that gave a distinct aroma to his nose. His ear picked up a faint sound of gulping and his eyes followed the sound to see Kazuhiro standing while drinking glasses of orange juice in the kitchen. He noticed him dressed in exercise attire consisting of a gray workout hoodie and track pants which were covered in sweat.
"Kazuhiro, you exercised outside?" Masato asked Kazuhiro.
Hearing his name called, Kazuhiro turned around to face Masato and replied, "Yeah, an hour ago."
"What about your breakfast?"
"I already ate before exercising."
Masato walked to the table and pulled the chair out to sit. As he sat, he picked a sandwich and moved it to his mouth for a bite.
Kazuhiro placed his empty glass in the sink and headed to a bathroom for a shower. He got the school to attend before the start of a ringing bell. While he was walking, he was relieved he was yet to be caught by the authorities or police officers for his 'exercise' since early morning.
"By the way, Kazuhiro, you exercised by jumping over and running across the building while doing a dangerous stunt, aren't you?" Masato questioned Kazuhiro about his exercising with his raised eyebrows.
Without hesitation, Kazuhiro shrugged at Masato's question, making Masato sigh in a bit of disappointment, and he resumed walking to the bathroom. As there was no sign of Kazuhiro, Masato returned to eat his sandwich. While he was eating, he was glad that Kazuhiro was doing okay in school for two days and he had a feeling that he may have made new friends. However, he suddenly realized he forgot to question him to find out if he was causing a ruckus at the school.
Instead of asking Kazuhiro when he was done changing into his uniform, Masato decided not to ask as he could ruin their day but he might have regretted not asking him the question sooner or later. As he took another bite, his face twisted into a little unpleasant taste.
'It tastes too salty.'
Morning
Unknown District, Hachioji, Tokyo
Kazuhiro focused on his walking in the path due to the headphones over his head. He heard nothing but jazz music. It helps to relax his troubled mind mentally. He yet yawned in tiredness while stretching his arm out, not noticing his surroundings. Running and jumping across the building and street in the early morning did strain his stamina. He could stop playing music for a while, but he preferred to stop when he reached school.
All of a sudden, a random waving hand was displayed on Kazuhiro's face. He was off-guard and stopped at his track. He turned around to see Mayumi who was waving in his face. He took his headphones down to hang around his neck to greet her, but she beat him to it.
"Good Morning." Mayumi greeted Kazuhiro brightly.
"Good Morning, Miss President," Kazuhiro greeted back while bowing.
Kazuhiro did not expect to see Mayumi again because he thought Mayumi should be already in school or going with her friends to school. It was stereotypical of him to think that all prefect students acted like good shoe goodies. It was also terrible to walk with her due to the difference between him and her; She was the first-course student in her third year, student president, and the daughter of her family member of one of the Ten Master Clans.
Kazuhiro wondered if Mayumi was with Mari right now because they seem to be close. He could get nagged for being rude to them the previous afternoon. Nevertheless, he put it aside in his thoughts and focused on having a conversation with her.
"Are you here for my rudeness yesterday?" Asked Kazuhiro.
"No," Mayumi replied with a smile, shaking her head lightly, "I let it go as you were already in a rush for a lesson and Mari isn't too angry about it"
"But to me, she seems to be in a foul mood."
"Don't be too paranoid, Tsuyoshi-Kun. She may be a strict and angry person but she is truly a good person."
"I'm not being paranoid but I just have to be careful, I think."
Giggling softly at Kazuhiro's words, Mayumi did not expect him to be a social person because her first impression of him was that he was being too shy, awkward, and rude when she and Mari met him. She honestly admitted to getting the wrong impression of the people that she met sometimes. She was curious as she wanted to know more about him since yesterday even though their first meeting was a mess. She decided to ask a simple question to know more about him.
"So, what are you listening to? Music?" Mayumi asked her first simple question, "What kind of music do you like the most."
"Jazz," Answered Kazuhiro.
"Huh, I thought people like us like to listen to 'Pop' in our generation."
"I did listen to other music genres, but Jazz is the only music that I like to listen to the most," Kazuhiro explained about his favorite music genre while yawning. He seems to deduce that Mayumi desired to know more about him by beginning her conversation with him. However, it could be troublesome for her to get his useless personal information as he thought of a boring person.
"Of course, everyone said that any music can cure anyone's stress, but sometimes it can distract you from doing something that you're supposed to do," said Mayumi.
"I can't disagree with that, Miss President," Kazuhiro mumbled, agreeing with Mayumi.
Mayumi skipped past Kazuhiro and turned around to stand in front of him. As she stood in front of him, she leaned towards her and smiled. He raised his eyebrow at her action but she began to speak.
"What about we introduced ourselves properly because of the small incident, don't we?" Mayumi asked with her polite tone and smile.
Kazuhiro sighed in slight annoyance that he had to introduce himself to her again although he already introduced her and Mari yesterday. He, however, thought back to his rude action of brushing them off so it could be payback from either of them.
"Alright, what about you first?" asked Kazuhiro.
"Very well. I'm Saegusa Mayumi of Class 3A," Mayamui introduced herself.
"Tsuyoshi Kazuhiro of Class 1F," Kazuhiro introduced himself as well.
After their introduction, they continued to walk while resuming their conversation, but as they almost reached school, Mayumi immediately saw Tatsuya and a group of friends walking together. Noticing her looking at them, he would guess that she would want to talk with either the Shiba Sibling or the group about something that he would not be interested in. Since she was eager to talk with them, Kazuhiro decided to leave her to talk with them. "We will talk another time, Senpai. See you in school later."
Seeing Kazuhiro walking away on his own, Mayumi could not help herself but smiled as she thought that Kazuhiro decided to become gentle to her, but it was a bit too much. Nonetheless, she had a good time with him. She began to run towards them, waving at them while calling Tatsuya's name, "Tatsuya-Kun!"
Both Tatsuya and Mayumi turned around to see Mayumi running toward them. She stopped her track and greeted Tatsuya first. "Tatsuya-Kun, good morning~"
Mayumi turned to Miyuki to greet her too, "And Mikyuki as well, good morning."
"Good morning, President."
Morning
Unknown Location, Tokyo
Genki typed his report with keyboard input on the desk while Sora lay lazily on his chair, singing a children's embarrassing song.
Masato entered the room to see Genki and Sora doing their stuff and sighed as he walked to his desk to do paperwork. His desk was beside Sora's desk. As he sat on his chair, he began to look around to see three of them were only there because everyone in the room should be there at any minute.
"Where is everyone?" Masato asked Genki.
"Director Izanagi went to have a chat with the police captain while our friends are currently outside," Genki replied to Masato causally.
"In the early morning?" Masato asked curiously
"If you're referring to the Director, he is currently at the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department to have a chat with the police captain but if you're referring to our friends, they went shopping for kitchen use," Genki explained in detail, hoping Masato could hear properly.
"Um... Yeah, I know that about the Director, but the way you explain is clear enough, so thanks," Masato thanked Genki with a little dumbfounded. He returned to typing the report down on his computer about yesterday's cases, especially the argument fight between Sora and Genki which may be necessary.
"You seem to be in a sort of happy mood?" Sora asked, "Was it because you think Kazuhiro adapted to his new school?"
"Honestly, yes, but I don't know if I should worry about Kazuhiro or not because of the school," Masto explained both his content and worries for Kazuhiro while scratching his cheek.
"Worried about Kazuhiro or the school?" Sora asked again.
"Both, Sora. He could end up in trouble for fighting with other students whether they provoke him first or he accidentally does that without knowing," Masato answered with more explanation, feeling a little anxious. He was hoping that Kazuhiro would not cause any more trouble for him to get a huge headache because of many previous small incidents involving Kazuhiro in his middle school and public. "I wished that he would stay away from trouble."
"It can't be helped, Masato," Said Genki.
Both Masato and Sora turned their heads to face Genki who did not face them in return as he was only focusing on typing his report. While his finger moved faster to type, he continued, "Kazuhiro can be troublesome like your uncle but he can handle himself by staying away from trouble unless he had to like fighting or chasing dangerous criminals."
"That's really helpful, Genki," Masato sarcastically thanked Genki with his rolled eyes as it did not help that much to ease his anxiousness.
"Anyway," Sora said while standing up quickly with a smile and clapping his hands, "Can you help me to find a date with a beautiful lady who is destined to be my wife?"
Genki and Masato groaned in annoyance at Sora for his laziness and flirty attitude again and they eventually went back to their own business to type their report, ignoring Sora who was confused by their behavior.
Afternoon
First High School, Hachioji, Tokyo
Laying his whole body, Kazuhiro was sleeping due to his extreme fatigue from his exercise and staying awake to listen to the teacher's lecture but now, he was feeling tranquility with the help of a cold breeze passing by. Despite sleeping, his ear picked up more awful mumbling from a few passing-by students, which mostly were course one students, about him having no dignity as a student due to sleeping in the public or being a weed student who could not properly cast magic.
"How disgusting."
"He had no hope to become a magician if he continued to do that."
"Weed who was sleeping? Heh, I feel a lot better."
"He doesn't deserve to be called a magician because he is both weed and lazy."
Having had enough of hearing their mumble, Kazuhiro slowly opened his eyes to see the blue sky, filled with white clouds passing by. He stood up to his sitting position and stretched his whole body to be relaxed while yawning loudly. He then looked up and closed his eyes a minute to doze for a minute, but, a familiar female voice called him, "Excuse me, is someone sitting beside you?"
Kazuhiro opened his eyes to see Shizuku standing in front of him. He was a little surprised to see her again but he wondered if she recognized him due to their encounters in the first two days. However, she gave off a solemn aura in the atmosphere. He was uncertain whether she was cold to him due to his attitude or whether she always was. He sighed as he decided not to be rude to her since their encounters, "No, no one sitting beside me."
"Thanks."
Shizuku sat on the bench beside Kazuhiro and did nothing but waited for her best friend, Honoka, to come to her because they were supposed to meet up in this area. However, she was truly bored and should have brought something to do to stay active from being bored.
While Shizuku was doing so, Kazuhiro decided not to sleep due to her pressure. It was an awkward silence between them who could not know how to start the conversation even though they just encountered it three times. He yawned again but quietly when he turned his head away from Shizuku by not being disrespectful to her. However, it increasingly made them more awkward.
As the duo remained quiet, Shizuku began to speak first to cut the awkward atmosphere down around them, "I'm waiting for my friend to meet up. What about you?"
"Doing nothing, Shizuku-san."
"How did you…."
"I overheard your best friend shouting your name in the audition on the first day."
Shizuku released her sigh of annoyance out of her mouth and gave a cold stare at Kazuhiro for calling her name without permission of asking. However, she kept her composure and continued their conversation, "It's very rude to eavesdrop on anyone's conversation that never concerns you but I will forgive you. How about we properly introduced ourselves."
"Sound fair," Kazuhiro said, "Class 1F, Tsuyoshi Kazuhiro."
"Kitayama Shizuku, Class 1A."
"Sorry for not apologizing yesterday for bumping into you."
"It's fine, Kazuhiro-san," Shizuku said, "You seem to rush to your class. Is it because you overslept?"
"Yeah," Kazuhiro replied, cutting to the part about his first encounter with Mari and Mayumi.
"Anyway, my friend and I saw you with your couple of friends yesterday," Shizuku said honestly with a calm tone, "It was surprising that you had a friend but they were older than you."
"What do you mean?" Kazuhiro asked, raising his eyebrow.
"Your two friends are fighting each other while the other tries to stop the fight," replied Shizuku.
"Oh, you and your friend must be embarrassed to see me not helping to stop the fight."
"No, you seem like you're friends with them and know their attitude. It was quite unusual for us to see that."
"Yeah."
The duo does not know why they felt at ease, talking to each other even though they met for the first time. Shizuku admitted that she first thought that Kazuhiro was the laziest student that she might meet but talking to him, he seems not to be entirely lazy and he was a sociable person to talk with. Kazuhiro, on the other hand, found her to be easy to talk with despite her both deadpanned look and voice. He admitted that he likes to talk with her as if he may understand her.
After getting to know a little about Kazuhiro, Shizuku decided to ask, "Kazuhiro-san, what kind of magic do you specialize in?"
As Kazuhiro was about to answer Shizuku's question, Honoka's voice suddenly shouted Shizuku's name, "Shizuku!"
Seeing Honoka jogging towards them, Kazuhiro presumed that Shizuku was waiting for her for their meetup. He quickly stood up as he did not want to cause an intervention between them because they were best friends from what he both presumed and saw. He then turned his head to her to say a bit of farewell.
"We will talk another time, Shizuku-san. See you later."
As Shizuku watched Kazuhiro walking away, her mouth formed a small smile while she thought, 'He wasn't bad to talk with.'
"Shizuku, I'm truly sorry that you had to wait for me to meet up," Honoka apologized while breathing slowly. She began to notice Shizuku looking at Kazuhiro walking and thought that she might have interrupted their conversation.
"Did I interrupt your conversation with him?"
"Not at all."
Evening
'I should head back home right now,' Kazuhiro thought while walking in the hallway, 'Or else something will happen to me."
As Kazuhiro was walking, he came across Tatsuya walking with a suitcase along with Miyuki who was feeling blue, and noticed that Miyuki was about to cry. He does not know what was going on but he felt something happen between them.
"I didn't want to have to reveal myself so quickly."
"I'm so sorry."
Tatsuya stopped his track, followed by Miyuki, and replied, "There's no reason for you to apologize."
"But once again, I've caused trouble for you, and it's all my fault."
Tatsuya turned around to face Miyuki and patted her head.
"Didn't I tell you the day of the matriculation ceremony?" Tatsuya said with a smile, "You're always getting in my place since I can't get angry at myself and it always picks me up."
Miyuki stared at Tatsuya as she was calmed down by his words. Tatsuya continued, "Don't tell me that you're sorry, I know a more fitting phrase for this moment."
Miyuki wiped her tears away and responded, "Yes. Good Luck!"
'Don't tell me that Miyuki-San's older brother got into trouble with one student?' Kazuhiro thinks without hesitation, 'I hope that their situation will be resolved even though I don't know about their details.'
Kazuhiro continued to walk and passed by the Shiba sibling, minding his own business. While he was walking, the Shiba sibling noticed and looked at him walking in the hallway.
'Is that the guy from yesterday?' Miyuki thought but suddenly realized with a bit of fluster on her face, 'Is he eavesdropping on our conversation just now?'
