Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of Holographic Heroes. Enjoy the 1600-word chapter. I don't own Red vs Blue; Monty and a few others do.

Massachusetts heard the sound of soldiers and gunfire as he and Connie continued shooting. There were a lot of Charon soldiers when it came down to it. He cursed as a bullet slammed into the wall above his head. If he could just end this? Everything would be fine. There was so much he didn't know, that he didn't want to know.

'I can't believe I'm trusting her and not just shooting her. How stupid do I have to be to do this? Because currently? I think I'm pretty damn stupid.' Massachusetts thought before he turned.

He fired a bullet which easily killed the rebel it hit. All he needed was time to plan. There was a way out of here. He hummed to himself before he turned to see Connie. She sliced one of the soldiers with her knife, dropping them to the ground as she spun her knife, ready to end this farce.

She hummed before turning to Massachusetts who looked more interested in leaving this place. She echoed the sentiment, there was nothing here for her. The only memorable thing she could think of here? Was how her life died as a freelancer here.

She didn't know if it ended for Massachusetts as well. He'd have his doubts, which she doubted would be anything like hers. It was to be applauded, she believed. Project Freelancer was a web, one that constantly constricted those who tried to leave it like this. Charon was a company; they'd only pursue them as long as they held some threat to the company's wallet…

Project Freelancer had no clear line like that she could easily exploit to find a chink in their armor. If there was to be one? It would have to be found at a later time, one where they WEREN'T being hunted.

Their moment of quiet was broken when the Charon mercenaries surged forward. Connie watched pure grey bodies turn and begin firing at them. It was like watching a parade of death.

"Have any brighter ideas?" Massachusetts questioned, turning toward her with interest. "Because right now? We have about 12 angry soldiers trying to murder us. I'd be open to new thoughts; you know." Massachusetts stated before he turned and fired.

There was a shot of pain before more bullets poured through the opening towards them. Connie turned and started shooting again. She'd have to take a magazine or something from one of the dead mercenaries.

"Not really, there's no real way out of here easily," Connie stated before she hummed. "There's something in the way. We can't just shoot our way out of this place. I know how to get out of here, but it's not as easy as you think." Connie added before she nodded to herself as she turned to look.

There was something odd about this situation. It felt like a dream. Connie and Massachusetts raised their guns and continued to fire into the crowd.

"There's about 12 of them," Massachusetts stated before another bullet sliced the rock next to him. "And you don't think we can't shoot our way out of this?" Massachusetts questioned before he shook his head.

One of the soldiers moved up towards them. Massachusetts went to shoot them before another few bullets sliced through the cover next to him. He and Connie dropped behind cover as he cursed. He turned to Connie who he guessed was busy raising an eyebrow to which he sighed.

'Out of everyone and I get spent dealing with a traitor. One who has assassins hunting us and shooting at us. Then you deal with the fact that I'm helping the traitor because I'm so damn nice. Great idea, Marty. You are too damn nice.' Massachusetts thought as he shook his head.

He was going to be kicking himself when this was over with. He wasn't dealing with another thing like this if he survived it. Connie seemed to think he'd do so.

"So do we seriously have a plan or not?" Massachusetts questioned before trying to a lookout. "Because in a few minutes? We're not going to have to worry about that. I don't know what you plan on doing, but I don't plan on dying here today." Massachusetts stated to which there was more gunfire in return.

C.T was silent as she continued to fire her gun. She did have an escape plan to leave the planet, she just didn't expect to have someone tagging with her at the moment. If she did? Then she probably wouldn't be doing this.

"How are you doing?" Connie asked before her friend was silent.

"Waiting to know if getting shot is worth trusting you," Massachusetts responded as he shook his head. "We're not going to last much longer. They have more than we do and I don't intend to duke it out with a private army." Massachusetts added to himself more than the woman.

"Do you think you can drop 2 more and circle around?" Connie asked to which there was a sigh.

"Yes, but that's about all I can manage at the second," Massachusetts responded as he shook his head. "You lie? I'm going to gift wrap you for project Freelancer myself. There isn't going to be any fight." Massachusetts added to her.

Connie was silent as she realized this goal of hers was almost doomed to fail considering that she was surrounded by people who ALL wanted her dead for reasons she knew she had brought onto herself.

"If there are any soldiers between us and the ship? Hold them off." Connie said which was met with silence at the second.

"You don't get to run away that easy, Connie," Massachusetts responded as there was another gunshot. "There's one less rebel. Did you say 2? I'll drop one more, I'm already moving to get to safety. Do you get shot? I'll leave you there." Massachusetts added before the radio was silent.

Connie sighed as she shook her head. This entire plan was a mistake that she won't make again if she lived through it. Still? There were battles to be fought. If she died here? The truth would probably die as well with herself.

"Enemy dropship moving in. They brought in reinforcements!" One of the pirates yelled before both looked upwards and into the sky.

There was indeed a pelican that was flying overhead. Connie wasn't stupid enough to think Project Freelancer would be any better than the pirates or their backup. She turned to look and see that Massachusetts was busy looking at the dropship, probably hedging his bets on how well this could go and which side was the better horse.

She sighed and moved to escape once more. If they found her? They'd find data that could end up crippling the freelancers. She wanted the director to pay for his crimes, not the people who served him and a few people who were also part of his plan.

She looked Massachusetts in the eye as he continued to battle with the rest of the soldiers. He glanced at the woman who was starting towards the ship while he battled the soldiers.

'Damn her, if she betrays me? I'm going to kill her.' Massachusetts thought while he paused only for several shots slammed into the stone next to him.

He decided that he had put in enough effort to fight these mercenaries. The others would deal with them. If he did decide to stop C.T? Then they'd probably accept him dealing with someone who had important info then fighting a handful of mercenaries alone without any backup.

Massachusetts pried a grenade off his armor and primed it. The explosive would barely buy a squad of people a few seconds.

To a single person who didn't have much and could vanish into the chaos? It was the perfect tool to stop the enemy.

He threw it towards the enemy who scattered as he expected. He took the time to flee into the smoke provided by the grenade as he did so. He was well aware of what happened if he failed in combat in the future. If it was easy for him to beat these mercenaries? He'd stay and battle them.

Connie had allowed him to fight as part of a distraction. He envied the woman's cunning while he shook his head.

'I'm going to put a bullet in her brain if she's lying about these people.' Massachusetts thought while he clicked his tongue.

He was gone in the smoke and fire that followed the grenade. If they wanted to blame him for cutting and running? So, damn be it… But he wasn't going to let Connie escape at the moment.

Still? He was ready to deal with this woman who had chosen to run out. Massachusetts fired up his jetpack with the intent of chasing her down as he shook his head.

He rolled his eyes under his armor as he pretended to feel like he hadn't seen this coming. Connie was smart, she was a soldier after all. He was cunning as well before this. He was also smart enough to predict this sort of maneuver.
