13. Offer Up Your Heart
The first thing Eren and Levi did as soon as they were left to their own devices on Paradis was visit the Survey Corps cemetery.
They didn't bring flowers, they didn't dress up in more formal or cemetery-appropriate clothes, they just marched straight to the cemetery, making sure no one was following them. They just needed a moment alone with their fallen comrades.
They stood in front of the rows upon rows of graves, not really looking at any one name carved into the tombstones.
Then, as if someone ordered it, in sync, they offered a perfect salute.
Straight backs, legs shoulder-width apart.
One fist against their lower back,
The other over the heart.
Without saying a word, they thanked the fallen for their offered hearts and promised, just as silently, to live and explore so they can see all that the other Scouts never got to, so they can share all those experiences with them when their time comes.
They don't know how long they stood there, but the moon was high in the sky when they heard their friends' approaching footsteps.
With one last look at the fallen, Humanity's Strongest and Humanity's Hope turned to meet their friends, knowing their fallen comrades and friends will be watching over them every step of the way once they continue their adventures.
