Thanks my wonderful Beta Mira Black-Snape
Spock was sitting next to his husband's bed, caressing his hand. It was now a full week that Jim was in a coma, with no sign of him waking up.
The event had left all of them with a bad taste in their mouths.
Not only had the young captain been having a difficult time, but to end up in a coma was distressful.
A nurse came in and went to check the vitals displaying, followed soon by McCoy. When the two medical staff were done with the ministrations, the doctor fixed a stray lock of hair from Jim's forehead. It was a small victory. Thanks to modern medical science, operations such as brain drainage no longer left people without hair.
"He'll wake up soon, Spock." The doctor spoke.
"It is not soon enough." The half-breed replied. "The children are worried."
"I bet. It's heartbreaking to see him stay still for so long. Good news, his brain activity increased in the last 12 hours, we gonna have a little more patience."

It was the next day that the man showed signs to be waking up. The monitors had alerted the doctor.
He went quickly to the monitors and checked a few vitals when a groan got his attention. He was alone since Spock was working on deck.
"Ehi darlin', open those baby blue eyes for me."
"Mmmmm."
"Come on lazy ass. You slept long enough."
"Bones?"
Hearing his nickname made McCoy's day: it meant there was not much permanent damage.
"Of course, Jim, who else were you expecting? Scotty?"
Seeing that the captain was licking his lips, he took a glass of water and offered the straw to the bedridden man, who promptly started to drink.
"Take it easy, I don't wanna you to get even more sick. Better?"
"Yeah, thanks. Computer, light fifty percent." The blonde massaged his face tiredly.
"How long was I out? And what happened? It's like a drum is playing in my head."
"Your brain was bleeding, I had to operate on you. You laid in a coma for 8 days. Scared the shit out of us all."
"Where's Spock?"
"He's on the bridge working, but I'll tell him you're up. Everyone will be happy. I increased some of the medications so the headache shouldn't be too bad soon. Now rest some more".
The doctor left the room where Jim was already dozing off.
When the good news reached the bridge, the whole crew was ecstatic.
Kirk was kept in sickbay for another week, with people going to greet him to recover fast, the kids to keep him company: after the seizures he still had problems with his vision, so to read or watch videos was out of the question.

Finally, Leonard decided to release Jim to his quarters.
The soon-to-be fathers were waiting for the last advice from the doctor.
McCoy entered the room with his PADD in his hands.
"Well, Jim, you are 27 weeks and your weight is going up, a lot better: you are now 134 lbs (60.78 kg). From now on, after the last attack, I want you on bedrest. Indefinitely. We can't get another scare like this. And when I say bedrest, I mean it! No exceptions. No work, no walks longer than to take a piss. Nothing. Zero. Capish?"
"Fuck Bones, do you want to kill me from boredom? What am I supposed to do!" The captain said.
"I don't care what you do if you stay in bed."
"Do not worry T'hy'la, we will find you something to do. Meanwhile, we wait for your sight to get better, you could listen to music. And I am sure the crew who is not on duty will come and keep you company. And I will try to stay more in our quarters."
"It's fine Spock, but the ship comes first. I just have no idea what to do in all that time. And what about Nogura? When the asshole finds out I'm out of commission…."
"IF he finds out. I said no work, but it doesn't mean you can't talk with that idiot, but try to keep your stress level low. I'm pretty sure your green-blooded husband will have a word or two with him. Now go, I know you miss your handmade bed sheets. I will come and check on you later."
The couple left sickbay hand by hand, happily. The children blabbling through the bond.

Gladly, days passed by in an easy way for Kirk, spending time talking with his kids, listening to music or talking with his crew.
In the evenings, Spock chooses to ignore some of the work to comfort his husband, cuddling in bed.
The command crew rotated their shifts to have one of them always with Jim while Spock was working.
You could find Uhura talking in some foreign language, Chekov about his equations, Sulu about his plants, but the worst one was Scott and the Enterprise's upgrades. (Because yes, Jim definitely couldn't work but eh, it was a friend's talk.)
By luck, Nogura was kept in the dark about Kirk's condition, since all the reports he got came with the captain's signature.
One day, the communicator officer on duty passed a call to the captain. It was his mother. What possibly could Winona want?
"Hello, Winona. To what do I owe the displeasure of this call?"
"Ungrateful brat. Can't a mother call his son?"
"Well, first I wouldn't call you a mother not even in a century, secondly you never cared about me. So. What do you want?"
"You always had a big mouth. And I cared for you or I wouldn't leave you with Frank. Anyway, how are you doing? How's the work? Any interesting missions? What about you and… your husband?" Kirk felt the anger in his mother's voice. She never digested the marriage between Jim and Spock.
"Don't talk about Frank like he was a caring person! He was only a piece of crap who loved to beat the shit out of me and Sam. You know my feelings about him. Things are great, the crew and the ship are fantastic. Now, as I stated before, it was a displeasure to have to talk with you. If you have nothing to say, bye Winona."
"Wait, stupid little shit. I want an explanation. I've been told that you are pregnant."
"And this concerns you by what point? Yes, I'm pregnant. Yes they are Spock's." The stress level in Jim was skyrocketing. The woman on the screen went red in the face, and she was about to reply when the call got disconnected.
When Spock entered the bedroom, he found Kirk with his eyes closed, breathing deeply to calm down.
"I sensed your distress, my love. I didn't know Ensign Larson patched your mother's call or I would have avoided it. What did she want?"
"Don't worry Spock. Nogura probably told her about the pregnancy and she wanted to make a point about how much of a disgrace I am to her, but you closed the call before she could finish. Thanks, by the way."
They kissed passionately.
Notes: next in 10 days :)
