The man sat quietly in his chair, moving his hands away from the armrests, folding his hands in his lap while he watched from the observatory down at the idling truck sitting down below.

He glanced over gauges and screens monitoring the sleeping giant. He watched intently as readings Quitely danced up and over in thin colorful lines. He suspected the little duo was acquainting themselves and getting used to one another. He hoped all was going well since the Knight 2000 was a vital piece in their grand scheme of things.

The man yawned, leaning forward and rubbing his hands over his limp legs propped against the wheelchair. The years had been tough…and getting used to his new bargain in life hadn't exactly been easy. Though now he wanted to turn to other things that didn't have to do with, well — war.

He'd forgotten how easy it was to really die…to come so close to the edge and take a sip from the prohibited cup so to speak. He didn't want anymore to do with his past really — but like all things…to go forward sometimes you have to look back.

Here he was again, recreating his creation — forgotten and abused… He wanted to give Goliath a true purpose this time, rather than ram over military front lines and defend tactical posts. That wasn't life…This time he wanted to do something akin to his father, even though he absolutely hated the guy…he'd come to see that there had been father-to-son love between them at some point and had been lost to who knew what…perhaps it'd been his fault but even then he knew that the fault was shared by his father as well…his job had become the center of his life and overtime had been swept away from his family as more and more work crowded into his schedule…then had it happened and Garthe had come to the conclusion that he really didn't know his father.

Sadly, however, unlike himself, the Knight 2000 had carried a rather valuable legacy, his fathers, and had made the man very proud up to his death (most likely) — not to mention its driver…

"Ugh," He leaned back in his chair running a hand over his loose hair.

Perhaps he was somewhat of a changed man but that didn't signify he liked Michael Knight any more than when he'd found out he'd been upright replaced! It wasn't justified to create a replacement for him, not in the slightest bit! In a way perhaps the Knight 2000 had been meant to be his car, not Michael's. He would really never know though, given he'd taken his own way and left his father behind. For what it was worth Goliath was really his…Though the problem he was facing at the moment was the trouble with connecting with the machine…

He grumbled to himself.

Hadn't that been the problem he had with his father? The two had found it difficult to get along due to the disconnection…the clashes between them had eventually become unbearable…could that happen to him yet again between him and his creation? He hoped not.

He often took Goliath for spins around the property for simply joy and tried to consulate the giant just enough…but it was a tough thing to do…being kind was not part of his nature, nor was being fond or loving. Sure, he was learning…but he often found himself scolding his gentle giant more often than not.

Garthe let out a large yawn, glancing over to the clock at the corner of a nearby table. It was awfully late but…he had the wanting to make Goliath feel comfortable with the new change. Perhaps Margo wasn't as considerate…he'd observed her many times before in the presence of Goliath, pressuring the AI to go above and beyond. As if the machine were her actual child to rear up and teach. She was often a bit untactful and it was evident that she had the potent machine at her feet. He didn't entirely like that…not anymore…he'd been that way…in the past. All it had ever done to him was driving those he loved away from him…now though…he didn't wish to keep up that road…that road that could and would lead to his own destruction if he wasn't careful. He'd taken a taste of what could happen if he was so…arrogant and self-centered…it hadn't been great…cost him his spine and his legs…though he was grateful that Margo had dragged him to the shore while the huge truck had sunk…he wasn't sure why the woman rather than changing her ways (like him) had let her desire to squash the competition surpass the care for those around her.

It was a wonder why he'd even let the woman take the role of director.

He coughed yet again, disabling the breaks to his wheelchair, and rolled it towards the elevator. Careful and skillfully rolling in the chair without even scraping against any surface.

Once lowered to ground level, he rolled effortlessly towards Goliath who he assumed was still conversing with the newly acquired Knight 2000.

He stopped just in front of the giant truck, reaching forward and brushing his hand over the grill guard securely attached to the chassis.

"How's my colossus doing?" He asked, hoping the Knight 2000 hadn't managed to make Goliath turn on him already…

There was a shudder from the frame as Goliath redirected his attention to the impaired man.

Garthe dug into the side pocket attached to his wheelchair, pulling out a device from which Goliath could speak through the use of typing. He wasn't ready yet…or that's what he'd told the scientist many times…to give his creation a voice of its own…

'It's late, shouldn't you be asleep?'

Garthe laughed.

"When others sleep and rest…setting aside their future for tomorrow — we work and progress in the now, taking advantage of every single heartbeat that we possess…"

The giant remained quiet for a little, making Garthe shudder ever so slightly.

"What's wrong? The 2000 got your tongue?" He teased, trying his best to hide his worry.

There was an immediate reaction from Goliath.

'No, I'm just — conversing…with him…It.'

Garthe picked up on the AI's insecurity almost instantly.

"Call him whatever you want, he'll be staying around for a while either way." Garthe gently lowered the portable screen in his lap staring down at the small blinking cursor. "How's he treating you?" He lowered his voice…allowing his concern to seep into his words this time while he looked over Goliath's quiet form. If the Knight 2000 thought it could get away with harming Goliath then — he'd be sure to counteract and return the blow equally as strong.

'We are getting along.' Goliath reported back meekly.

Garthe nodded.

"Good. Has he hurt you?" He grasped the screen tighter awaiting Goliath's reply. The AI taking a while to compute the question.

'He's simply afraid, that's all.'

Garthe let out a breath of air, letting his frustration be known as he clenched his jaw.

"I'll ask the scientist to eliminate the pest from your system if that's the case…I knew we couldn't rely on sticking the whole thing in there…we'll just have to cut out some important pieces and stick them back. How dare it —!"

'He said sorry! He didn't mean to! He was simply afraid! Please don't take him away! I am completely functional and I greatly esteem his company!'

Garthe rolled his eyes. He knew Goliath down to the letter…the computer had the tendency to develop soft spots almost immediately. Recalling the time they'd had a warehouse dog to eliminate the pesky rats from roaming the perimeter…Goliath had quickly taken a liking to the animal's presence and had been heartbroken when the dog had been taken back to its proper home.

"Goliath, remember that the Knight 2000 isn't your pet," Garthe sighed. "He's there as a mentor — of sorts. You are to look over his memories when you are in need of guidance…It should have several years' worth of it —"

'He prefers to be called Kitt, actually.' Goliath replied sheepishly. ' — I'm not sure I understand how he could be my "mentor"?'

Garthe leaned over the armrest of his chair.

"The Knight 2000 is very wise, in the sense that it's lived a long time…enough to know a good deal about this world we live in. You, my dear machine, have little to no understanding about this world and that's why we've brought him, to provide you with the wisdom you will need to get through with your purpose."

'What is my purpose? What is my main program?' Goliath immediately asked taking advantage that Garthe had finally brought up the topic…he seldomly ever did.

Garthe rubbed his tired eyes as he read over the dim words…

"Goliath, you know I can't tell you until the time comes." The man sighed. "Until then study everything the Knight 2000 has in its databanks…You will realize that they are most useful." Garthe smiled faintly. Reaching forward and tapping the Trucks prow. "I gotta go. Get some rest and tell that 'Kitt' to shut up and go to bed…I've been watching the readings…You're both machines not school children at a sleepover!" Garthe bid his goodbye, just about to tuck away the portable screen when Goliath pinged his last message.

'Goodnight. Please, rest well.'

Garthe gave Goliath a fond smile.

"Night." Turning his chair and rolling it gingerly down the hall towards his sleeping quarters. The man wished his father could see him now…doing just the same as he'd done years ago when the Knight 2000 was being created and developed…nurturing his creation towards its success one spoonful at a time.
