Wivalae's Tale
Chapter 3: Training Proper

Disclaimer: I do not own HunterxHunter or any of the characters involved except Wivalae

Biscuit led Wivalae toward the large pit where Gon and Killua were training with Binolt, their attacker. The trio were currently engaged as Binolt attempted to slash Gon with his scissors, however the young hunter dodged the attack easily, leaping back to create distance.

"You're going to join the boys as they engage with Binolt," Biscuit explained.

"Uh… should I be doing this?" Wivalae asked as she looked down at the fighters.

"Of course! No better way to learn than by doing."

"But… I barely know how to use my Nen for anything other than control."

"Exactly, and the boys weren't much further ahead of you when they started. You'll be fine," Biscuit smiled at her as she placed her foot on Wivalae's beind before shoving her into the hole.

With a crash Wivalae landed on the dirt below causing the trio to stop and see what caused the noise.

"Wiv?" Gon asked as he ran over.

"Yeah… hi Gon, ow," Wivalae rubbed a spot on her head where a rock fell.

"Are you ok?" Gon asked as he offered a hand.

"Yeah, I just didn't expect Biscuit to kick me down here," Wiv answered as she took his hand and stood.

Dusting herself off she looked over at Binolt and Killua, "I guess I'm joining in," She explained.

Binolt and Killua looked at each other before they both shrugged.

After Wivalae and Gon rejoined them the fighting re-commenced: Killua dashed towards Binolt who tried to cut him with his scissors, but Killua ducked the attack and slid between Binolt's legs. As he turned to follow Killua he raised his arms just in time to block a kick from Gon. Wivalae darted in, but he saw her out of the corner of his eye and threw Gon back before turning to cut her. Wivalae saw the blade of the scissors coming toward her and frozen, her mind flashed back to a similar time where she was staring at the blade of a knife, her mind flashed back to Binolt's blade, and she immediately curled into a ball as she slid across the ground, the blade of the scissors whistling over her as she flew past.

"Wiv!? Are you ok?" Gon asked as he rushed over.

She was trembling and sobbing, the image of the knife still in her mind's eye. Killua kicked off the ground and slammed into Binolt, sending him staggering.

"What did you do?" He demanded.

"I don't know! I swear! All I did was try to cut her like I have been you two, that's all!" Binolt shouted back as he held out his hands.

Biscuit noticed the disturbance and kicked off the ground, flying through the air before descending down into the pit.

"What happened?" She asked, looking at Wivalae then Binolt.

"I… I can't!" Wivalae shouted from the ground. "I can't fight him!"

Biscuit looked down at her, then back up at Binolt before putting her hands on her hips and sighing. "Fine. C'mon, let's get you out of here." Biscuit said as she held out her hand. Gon lifted Wivalae up and handed her to Bisciut who nodded before kicking off again. She flew to the rim of the crater, turning back to the boys she shouted down to them

"You can resume now. I'll make sure she's ok!"

The trio looked back at each other before nodding and re-engaging.

Biscuit carried Wivalae back to their campsite and set her down by their firepit.

"So, what happened?" She asked as she sat down nearby.

Wivalae sniffled as she looked over her should at Biscuit who smiled in return.

"His blade… it, brought back one of my memories."

Biscuit's eyes widened in surprise. "Do you remember anything else?" She asked.

"No… just, someone attacked me before with a knife, and… his blade was so similar, I froze."

Biscuit put a hand to her chin in thought as she adjusted her sitting position. "It sounds like that event left you with a traumatic case of Aichmophobia."

"Aichmo…what?" Wivalae asked as she sat up.

"It's the fear of small blades and sharp objects like needles, knives, stuff like that."

"I… see…"

"Nothing to worry about. I've been thinking that maybe you were right, you might be more of a special case than the boys. Let's see about giving you your own training regiment then, hm?"

Wivalae nodded as she turned to completely face Biscuit.

"Let's start with manifesting your Nen, ok?"

She nodded as her Nen manifested around her, forming an oblong shell.

Biscuit nodded. "Now, as a Transmuter, you specialize in transforming your Nen to take on the aspects of something else."

Wivalae nodded her understanding.

"Do you have anything you feel especially strong about or attached to?" Biscuit asked.

Wivalae tilted her head as she considered the question. "I… I'm not sure."

Biscuit nodded, "That makes sense, Transmuters can have a hard time determining what aspects to give their Nen. Masters can change their Nen's properties on the fly, having experimented and tried multiple aspects, but since you're beginning let's see about finding something simple…" Biscuit looked around before spotting a nearby pebble.

She picked it up and held it out to Wivalae who held out her hand. Biscuit dropped it into her palm. "Let's try to have you replicate this rock?"

Wivalae nodded as she closed her eyes to focus. She tried to imagine the wispy, white-essence that surrounded her taking on a harder, more rugged texture. Biscuit quietly sat and observed her student's attempts, but after a few minutes nothing changed.

"Ok, that's enough."

Wivalae sighed as she stopped concentrating. She dumped the rock back to the ground and looked to Biscuit who was thinking.

"I'm not sure what to try…"

Wivalae remained quiet as she looked down at her lap. Suddenly a gust of wind picked up and blew her hair into her face.

"Wait… what about air?" Wivalae asked looking up at Biscuit.

"Air? That's a pretty advanced form of Transmuting, you can't see air, so you can only work with what it feels like."

Wivalae nodded, "That may be true, but I feel something. You asked me earlier if I felt connected to something or particularly attached. I've always felt better when a breeze hits me, maybe that's it?"

Biscuit considered this for a moment before nodding "It's worth a try."

Wivalae nodded back before closing her eyes. She tried to imagine her Nen disappearing, blowing around her like her own personal tornado. She felt her top begin to flit back and forth, and a slight breeze blew at her face.

Biscuit smiled to herself as she saw her student's aura disappear and a solitary breeze move her clothes and hair.

"I think we've found your natural Nen ability." She said with a smile.
