After what felt like hours, but was probably more than a few minutes. Ladybug crawled back over to Cat Noir's body, before she wrapped his arms around her and laid her head on his shoulder. She stared up at his face, which looked peaceful, almost as if he was merely napping with her in his arms. Maybe, maybe if she stayed here, in his arms and didn't leave. Then maybe it never happened, and maybe everything will be okay. Yes, that will work. She will just lie here with him until she dies, too. For she did not wish to live without him. Revenge had filled her with a purpose. But now that it was over and done with. She had no more reasons to live.
Slowly, she closed her eyes and fell into a sleep that was neither peaceful nor painful. But, one of deep exhaustion and darkness.
When she awakes, she didn't know how long she was asleep for; the cavern had no natural light. Lifting her Yoyo, she checks the time and notices several missed calls and text from friends and family. Ignoring them, she looks. It had been almost 24 hours since this had all started.
A fresh call from her parents, came through and she ignored it once more, putting her Yoyo away. Before laying her head back down onto Cat's shoulder and falling back into the black of the abyss.
A loud thumping sound from above aroused Ladybug once more from her abyss. This time, she did not remember where she was. She sat up slowly, confused why Cat Noir's arms were around her, or why he was so cold. It all flooded back into her mind, as light appeared where the entrance to the cavern from the mansion was above. She picked up her discarded Yoyo to check the time.
'July 8th, 2022. It's been… a… week. The suit must have… kept me… alive… of course it did. Who are they, what do they want? Can't they just leave us in peace? Not even in death we can be together.' Ladybug thought, as she watched the hole get bigger above her, she knew she should care. But she couldn't. It meant they were coming to take her Kitty away from her. And this time, this time, she'd never see him again. Except for maybe in a casket.
"Ladybug, please. We must get the Miraculous to safety." The voice was a small one from beside her.
She turned to see what looked like a butterfly hovering in front of her. "Who…"
"Nooroo. I was Gabriel's Kwarmi. The Miraculous are in the next room. We must get them to safety. The humans cannot have them. I know you're in pain. But please. Cat Noir would not want you to die down here, alone and sad. Save the Miraculous for him, then do as you wish with yourself." Nooroo set the Butterfly Miraculous in her hand.
For the first time, she could hear the voices of the other Kwarmi. Nooroo was right, she needed to get the Miraculous to safety. If she didn't, then her Kitty would have died in vain. He sacrificed himself so she could save them.
"Get the Kwarmi ready, Nooroo." She whispered, her throat hoarse from thirst and crying. She sat up and turned to Cat Noir. Not knowing why, she pulled up her Yoyo and took a picture of his 'sleeping' form. Before taking one of the two of them together sleeping, and her watching him sleep happily. She leaned down and gave him a kiss as she slowly took the ring from his finger. The world will never know what had happened here. They will believe that Monarch killed Gabriel and Adrien, while she tried to save them. They did not need to know the truth, not about Gabriel, nor about her.
"Goodbye my Kitty Kat. I will always love you, Adrien." Giving him one last kiss before slowly standing up, stumbling a few steps. Her body was stiff from not moving for a week.
"Ladybug?" Nooroo had returned with the other Kwarmi and their Miraculous.
Without a word, or looking up, Ladybug opened her Yoyo for them to fly in. Nooroo stayed behind to watch her.
"Please, you can't stay here. You- " Nooroo started.
"I'm leaving, I promise." She cut him off, as she grabbed him and shoved him roughly into her Yoyo, before snapping it shut. She had to get the Ladybug and Cat Miraculous somewhere safe. Then she will decide what to do with herself.
The sound of feet hitting the ground pulled her gaze away from Adrien. Finally, she looked up to see the Chief of Police standing there with a torch on her. The look on his face said it all. She must look terrible. Surrounded by debris and Adrien's body.
"Cat Noir…" She said hoarsely, but she knew he heard her. "He was Cat Noir, he died a hero. Tell everyone." She couldn't stop the fresh wave of tears as she turned away from Adrien and jumped into the chasm below. Ignoring the shouts of the Chief to come back and explain.
Swallowing the water macaroon, Ladybug became Aqua Ladybug, before diving into the flowing river below. She glimpsed Gabriel's broken body just before she hit the water. Trying not to give into the urge to throw up again. From the water below, she could see the cliff above her. As the faces appeared to look to where she had disappeared to. One screamed when they noticed the body of Gabriel, broken and lifeless at the bottom.
The story will be that Monarch found out that Adrien was Cat Noir, and attacked him. Killing him and Gabriel Agreste before she could save them. No one needed to know the truth. Ruining the Agreste name will not bring Adrien back, and will only tarnish Cat Noir's name and memory. Where was Monarch? No one knows, but no one will ever see him again. They will assume he either died or was defeated. The last act of the once Great Cat Noir and Ladybug! The Greatest Superheroes Paris has ever, or will ever see.
