(Two chapter uploads in one day?! CRAZY! This one is a cute one!)
**Marinette has a visitor!**
Marinette lays in bed, staring at the pictures of Adrien and Cat Noir. Occasionally telling stories to Plagg about her and Adrien's adventures. Sometimes showing him footage of their battles together. It's hard for her to accept the fact that she's not the only one suffering from the loss.
Plagg must have felt the blast Adrien took, must have tried so hard to absorb it and save him. But it was impossible. Plagg absorbed as much as he could before it hit Adrien. Tikki told her that if the holder dies while transformed. The Kwarmi can feel the life force leave them, they can literally feel the moment the holder dies. And although, what she went through was bad. At least she didn't have to feel him die. Plaggs entire job, point of existing. Is to protect the holder from damage and death. And he had failed, the poor Kwarmi's devastated.
She didn't bother trying to take the blame from him, as she knows it's no good. They have both failed Adrien; they were both to blame.
"Your room stinks to high heaven. When we the last time you bathed?" A voice snaps from the trapdoor.
Marinette rolls over to see Chloe and blinks. How'd she get in here?
"Chloe?" She says, hoarsely. She clears her throat before sitting up.
"Oh, don't bother hiding the creatures. I know." She slams the trap door, before sitting on the chaise and digging through her bag. "Well, come here then." She snaps once more.
"What creatures? Know what?" She's not being coy or lying to Chloe. She literally didn't know what she meant. Then it hit her, the Kwarmi's.
"You know I'm Ladybug?" She whispers, as she climbs down off her bed and sits on the edge of the chaise.
"Well, it was easy to figure out. Adrien is Cat Noir, and you two are always together. And you're in love with Adrien. You wouldn't be this heartbroken or broken period. If you were just Marinette. Now, Ladybug, she would be completely smashed, like you are. After watching Cat Noir die, not being able to save him. Losing not only your Kitty and your Adrien. This is the right amount of broken..." Chloe sniffs as she continues to dig in her bag.
"I always knew you were hiding a brain under there." Marinette feels her lips curve up into a smile. The first in months.
"Yes, well. The lawyer tried to come by, but your parents scared him away. So, I said I'd come. I'm not scared of anything." Chloe mumbled as she pulled out folders and a small bag.
That's definitely true. Chloe feared nothing.
"What did a lawyer want with me? Am I being... sued? Arrested?!" Marinette's eyes widened at the thought of the city knowing the truth.
"What? No, it's for Adrien's will." Chloe's forehead furrow in confusion as she opens the folder.
"Adrien had a will. He apparently made it a few weeks ago. Since Gabriel is dead, everything went to Adrien. But, because he's..." Chloe pauses briefly and grabs a hanky before wiping her eyes.
"Dead..." Marinette finishes for her. It is the first time, she's admitted it out loud. " Adrien's dead..." Boy, did that hurt.
"Yes, everything goes to the people in his will. Well, person in his will. That would be... you." Chloe held up the paper, that stated everything is to be left to Marinette Dupain-Chang.
"...Me?" She gasps, he had made a comment about leave something for her. So she wouldn't have to worry. But, everything?
"Yes, you. The business, the house, the money, everything. Now, Adrien's Aunt is furious about this. And has started a lawsuit, suing you. Saying you are just a child and that Adrien is also a child. He had no right to leave everything to you. You weren't even a couple. Which of course is stupid, you don't need to even know a person to leave them things. People leave millions to charity, to strangers..." Chloe shakes her head, as she pulls out the small plastic bag.
"Will she win?" Marinette asks. She doesn't like the idea of Felix getting everything.
"Doubtful! It's a legally binding contract. All she can do is waste money on it. But you can't do anything with the business or house until it's over. I mean, you can run it and keep going and such. But, no major changes or selling it. You'll need to appoint someone to run the company, since you have no intentions of getting out of bed for the next year or two. Though, I don't blame you. I'm going back to my bed once I leave here." Chloe opens the bag and pulls out the good luck charm she had made Adrien for his birthday.
Marinette gasps as she looks at it. She didn't even to think to take it from Adrien's body before she left. "Chloe, is that...?"
"Yes, I know how much this means to you. I wanted you to have it. Before it got tied up in litigation by the courts." She hands it to her slowly.
Marinette takes the charm and looks down at it. She had even cleaned it for her. Her eyes start to fill with tears, and she throws herself into Chloe's arms.
"Eh… you're welcome, really." Chloe sighs and hugs Marinette back, as a few stray tears escape from her eyes too.
"Chloe... if you ever need to talk. Or want to hear stories about Adrien. You can... come over and see me or call me." Marinette says, as she pulls away at last. Wiping her eyes.
"I'd like that Marinette. We can trade Adrien stories." Chloe smiles and then jumps. "Oh, I have other things, too. You may find them a bit weird. But, when I was little and my Mother left for NY. I sneaked into their room and took a bag of the clothes, her pillow and her blanket." Chloe held up a large Ziploc bag of clothes to Marinette.
"...Why?" She asks, curious. Until she notices they were Adrien's clothes.
"Because they smelled like her." Chloe pulls out Adrien's sweater and hands it to Marinette.
Marinette takes the sweater, and is suddenly engulfed in a sweet smell. It was Adrien's smell. She buries her face in it and takes a deep whiff.
"Wow Chloe. Thank you!" She sniffs and hugs the sweater. "How long with the smell last?"
"Well, Adrien smelt of the perfume and cinnamon. So, I brought you the perfume and his chap stick, that's cinnamon. The ChapStick you can get anytime. But, the perfume is limited. I got as many bottles as I could. Since you own the company, you can have them make more? Then you can spray the clothes and they'll always smell like him. But, his natural smell. Depends on how much you use them. A daily or even hourly smell is fine. And will last ages. But, if you hug it, hold it, and sleep with it. It'll smell like you within a week. Maybe use the sweater to sleep with, then your 2 smells can mingle." Chloe smiled and sealed the bag back up, not before putting a fine mist of the perfume in the bag.
"You... you are amazing Chloe. I'd.. I'd like you to run the company. You know fashion, it's in your blood. Also, you loved Adrien as much as I did. You won't let anyone hurt his company! And you won't turn it into your company either. What do you say?" Marinette say as she decides whether or not to wear Adrien's sweater. She decides best to shower first, she wants it to smell like her, not her BO.
"Really? Do you... do you mean it?" Chloe asks, shocked. As she hands Marinette the papers for her to sign.
"Yes, like I said. You know fashion and you'd never dishonour Adrien's memory." Marinette smiles, as she signs the papers accepting the Will and giving control to run the business to Chloe. "You'll still need my permission for most stuff, but it's all yours. And has that perfume made? We're not the only ones who will want to smell like Adrien."
"That's the first thing I'll do. That and a memorial to Adrien and his father." Chloe furrows her brow as Marinette's wince when she mentioned Gabriel.
"Did... did Gabriel hurt Adrien? Cat Noir?" Chloe reaches out and touches Marinette's hand. Suddenly wet from tears.
"Yes, and no. I think a memorial for them both would be great. He might have been a horrible person. But, without him, we wouldn't have had Adrien. So, he deserves it too." She sighs and wipes her eyes. She's not crying, because she feels guilty for killing him. She's crying, because she realises the world has forgotten him.
"Chloe, can you have a public memorial set up for Gabriel as well? It seems no one cares that he has died. I know he isn't/wasn't popular. But, no one deserves to be forgotten when they die." Marinette places the sweater, bag and charm on her desk.
"That's how I know your Ladybug. Only she would say such a thing. He was a horrible person, I should know. Adrien and I grew up together. Not sure what Emilie saw in him. I'll do it right away, don't you worry." She smiles as she gathers her thing to stand. "The bag with his pillow and blanket are at the bottom of the stairs. I'll hand them to you. I suggest you wash them both in the chapstick and the perfume. That way, they will smell like him. What I'm doing." Chloe sniffs and wipes her eyes once more.
"I'm happy to know someone else mourns him like I am. It seems everyone is just being superficial. But, only we knew him, didn't we?" Marinette asks, as she looks at the charm.
"Yes, Marinette. Only we knew and understood him. See you soon." She smiles as she opens the trapdoor and climbs down. Quickly followed by two bags flying through the opening.
"Thank you Chloe, thank you." Marinette sighs and grabs some fresh PJ's and Adrien's sweater. Before going to the bathroom for a shower.
'That's right, many loved Adrien. But only 2 truly loved and knew him. That's all that matters.'
