Hinata's mind is a whirlwind. She hears Sakura's words but doesn't seem to understand them. It's Naruto's voice repeating the words in her ear that helps her comprehend what's going on.

Her son is ready to be born.

She's ready to give birth.

"W-what should I-"

"Find the most comfortable position for you, my lady, you can lay down, you can kneel, whichever seems easier for you."

Hinata remembers the books she read as a child, all of them showing drawings to help visualize the text. Most of them had the mother laying on the ground, with people surrounding her. Her legs feel wobbly so maybe that would be the best choice.

Naruto helps her, taking care of supporting her and letting her down slowly.

Hinata rests her head on the pillow and she lets herself sigh and try her best to relax. It doesn't work. The pressure on her stomach is uncomfortable and her back is killing her. Naruto's face hovers above her, and she can see his eyebrows scrunched up, the nervousness in his eyes. She reaches up and his face nestles into her hand, his eyes glued to her.

She turns immediately after, her body screaming for her to do something about this. Laying down quickly becomes a bad idea and she tries to stand, but her belly hinders her movement.

"You want up?" Naruto asks. His hands already under her back and arm.

Hinata barely nods, a slight contraction making her groan. Her movements are low and sluggish. She sits first, takes a breather and then kneels.

There.

Naruto catches her sigh of relief. "Better, love?"

Her face is buried on his chest and she whines a yes. The pain comes in waves but at least it just presses down her pelvis now. A big contraction comes and she squeezes Naruto's arms, somehow, someway, the pain grows stronger and she can't help the cry that leaves her.

Her arms shake and her legs shiver and she realizes she's crying the moment Naruto cleans the tears off her face. It feels like the pain can't grow stronger, but it does.

And it fills her with dread. She already feels she can't go on, so how much further does she have to hold out?

Naruto shushes her, his hands on her body, trying to soothe her. But now not even his touch can distract her. She wails, she feels her pelvis splitting open and she can only bury her face on Naruto's shoulder as she lets the pain drift away.

Slowly, excruciatingly slow, but it goes away for a while.

She huffs and puffs and lets her body rest on Naruto, her breathing is labored and she can hear Sakura talking with Naruto.

She can't hear a thing. Her whole body concentrated on itself, her heartbeat right on her ear.

It's Naruto again with his words right by her ear, repeating Sakura's instructions again and again. Her breathing must be controlled, Naruto does a big show of raising his chest and letting the air out of his mouth. "See? Like this, come on."

Hinata tries. And then she tries again because it's hard and it's easier to huff and puff her way along. But that doesn't cut it. And Naruto is there to remind her.

"Sakura is ready to go whenever, she'll let you know when you're crowning and then she'll guide you through the contractions, all right?"

Hinata's eyes are closed and she can only nod. Naruto keeps on feeding her information, how she's coming along, reminding her to calm her breathing, soothing her when her whines start sounding like weeping.

She doesn't know how much time passes. She anchors herself on Naruto's voice, on his touch. Her whole body shudders as her contractions find her and she has to straighten and twist to ride them. Her fingers dig deep into Naruto's body and she bites his shoulders more times than she can remember.

She barely remembers.

•····························•····························•

Hinata rests her head on him, her whole body weight on him. Her body tightens when the contractions come and the only thing he can do is whisper into her ear, encourage her and drag his hands over her body, trying to give her some sort of comfort.

She whines into his shoulder and grabs onto him for dear life. Her neck is full of sweat and her legs shiver so much, he knows she can't put any weight on them.

Sakura's hands are almost always under Hinata's robe. Touching and checking. It's soon. It's soon. It's been soon for a while now and his child still shows no sign of wanting to get into the world.

Hinata's breath washes over him and her whines break his heart. He whispers words of encouragement and bites down the winces that try to escape him as her nails sink into his body. This is nothing compared to what she's going through.

She twists in his arms and wails against his chest.

"Sakura?" He asks, unable to do much and feeling guilty over Hinata's pain. Her face is twisted in such a way he can feel his own stomach twisting up. Just how much longer?

"He's coming along."

"He's been coming along for a while now."

"Yes, labor can last several hours."

"How long has she been-"

"We're nearing 10 hours now."

"Isn't that enough?"

"It's normal, my lord."

Naruto mutters 'normal' under his breath to calm himself, and then drags his hands over Hinata's back. Pressing his thumbs on her muscles, the way she told him helped a couple hours ago. She only rubs her face on his body, whimpering along.

Another contraction follows and Hinata's scream echoes inside the room. Naruto helps Hinata recover her breathing when Sakura's voice chimes in.

"Ah, I can feel his head."

"Is that," Naruto tries his best to remain calm, but his voice trembles, "is that good?"

"Extremely." Sakura positions herself behind her lady and rearranges the clothes under her. "My lady, I need you to rest a little and not follow the next contraction, okay?"

"What?" Hinata whines, her breathing labored but at least following Naruto's chest movements.

"That way we give your body time to adjust and it won't tear. Just take short breaths, blow them out through your mouth but don't push."

Hinata whines and Naruto cooes at her, "It's okay, it's okay."

"N-no, I'm n-not okay."

Her words get cut short and Sakura is quick to remind her, "Do not push, my lady, blow out your breaths. Don't push."

Hinata breaths in and out in quick succession, trying her best to keep her muscles from tightening too much. She barely manages. "A-Again?"

"Yes, my lady, again." Sakura glances up and locks eyes with Lord Naruto. "The young lord is coming soon, my lord."

Naruto's breath comes out at once. A mixture of relief and anxiousness that just fumbles along as Hinata twists inside his arms. "You're doing so good, love. So good. Sakura says our child is coming soon, okay, just a little more, just a little more."

Sakura can already feel the young lord's head. Lady Hinata is doing amazing and he's coming down slowly, everything is going great. "My lady, you're doing great."

Her whole body feels like it's going to break down at any moment now. But it somehow keeps whole. She can feel the pressure growing even stronger down at her pelvis, impossibly so, but she breathes through it and she keeps her attention in Naruto's and Sakura's words.

Instructions and encouragement mixed with pain and the knowledge that her baby would soon be in her arms.

Her child.

"The head is out," calls Sakura and the words make Naruto and Hinata breath in a shuddery breath. "He'll be out in two or three pushes."

Hinata lets out a laugh. She's exhilarated, and then another contraction comes and she bites into Naruto.

"Now push, my lady! Push!"

She feels like she's breaking apart. Her whole body shivers, her legs tremble like never before and she howls to the sky.

"You got this, my lady."

The contraction ends and Hinata is left a mess, out of breath and shaking like a leaf. Her whole weight resting on her husband.

"In and out, love, breath in and out." Naruto holds her and puts pressure on her muscles, a welcome pressure. The tension builds up again, she knows it now, recognizes it.

"It's c-coming."

"I'm ready, my lady."

Compared to the ones before, this one comes almost too swift. Knowing her baby is coming fills her with a feeling she can't comprehend. She feels euphoric.

The pain rises one moment and then it leaves. Too fast. Too easy. She feels the baby between her legs before he's taken. Sakura's voice filling the room.

"I got him."

Hinata hiccups a breath.

"I got him," repeats Sakura.

And Hinata begins to cry. Her legs are sore, her back is killing her and her whole body quivers. Naruto is talking but now even his voice is muted. She wants-

She wants-

Sakura cleans the baby. Checks him for anything she might have missed, but he's healthy. He's fine. Her chakra washes over him and all is good. She raises him and his face scrunches up, wrinkles upon wrinkles.

His cries fill up the room and Sakura breaks into a smile. The young lord is finally here.

And his mother is stretching her arms for him.

Hinata rests between Naruto's arms, her hair sticking to her skin and her breath strained, but her face is calm and a hopeful smile is in place. "My b-baby."

The child settles on her chest and his cries settle to a whimper.

"Is he-?" Naruto follows Sakura's eyes, his voice anxious.

"Good, yes, he's healthy."

He cracks up a smile and then looks down to his wife, who's cooing their child. He's small. So very small.

Sakura cuts the umbilical cord and rearranges the bedclothes under Hinata.

The child moves his head around Hinata's chest, and she hurriedly takes her robe off and brings her breast to him. His little mouth opens and bumps into her skin, unable to latch. "H-here, here, baby." She's already crying, but the moment her baby begins sucking on her breast, the moment his so very little hands hover around she feels herself breaking down.

She wants to shield him from everything, and-

And they are in this situation.

She barely feels Sakura cleaning her down, but Naruto moves behind her and she looks to him. His blue eyes red and the tears falling down his face. His hand moves forward and he settles it over his son.

The difference in size is laughable. Adorable.

His voice cracks and is full of emotion. "Hey, son."

Hinata brings her baby up, and then Naruto's hand closer to the child, his thumb resting now close to the child's hand.

She feels Naruto choking up when their child grabs onto his finger. Naruto's tan hand trembles.

"He's perfect."

She agrees, and lets herself bask into this moment. Her husband at her back, her child in her arms. Together and safe. Happy.

Naruto brings her closer to him, careful with his every move. He hides his face on her hair and sniffles the tears that fall off.

"Thank you. I love you."

"I love you t-too."

The baby cooes and searches for his mother again. Hinata caresses his head as she guides him again. "Hello, baby."

Naruto brings his face forward, stares at his child.

"Hello, Boruto."
