Erin's POV: it's been almost 2 months since Jay's dad had a heart attack and ever since then Jay has been letting his father come around him and the kids more so they can get to know each other better . They have liked him so far Porter he's getting ready to start regular school and Camryn is starting daycare in a few weeks ember is getting ready to turn one years old here in the next few days. which is crazy it feels like yesterday we just had her right now we are at home hanging out with the kids
E= guess what's coming up in a couple days well it's more like two things
J= um let I guess it will be Tuesday
E= really jay
J= okay let's see it's ember's first birthday
E= correct so far anything else
J= umm oh yeah it's also the day I married my best friend three years ago
E= oh yeah the best three years of my life
J= couldn't agree more
E= so since ember's birthday is on a day we have to work should we have a big party or a different one like on a Saturday or should we just have a smaller one on Tuesday at work if Hank will let us do it
J= well for one I'm pretty sure Hank will let us do it he will do anything for his grandkids
E= yes he would
J= and why not do you both have a small one which is the unit on Tuesday and then on Saturday we have a big one with everyone else at like a local park
E= all right that works
We spend the rest of the day just enjoying being with the kids the next day at work we caught a case but it wasn't too bad we were able to solve it pretty fast and was doing paperwork at the end of the day .
J= hey babe how close are you form being done with your paperwork
E= couple more pages what about you
J= about the same how about we go talk to Hank then finish the paperwork up up fast after we talk to him
E= all right let's go
HV= ( knocking) hey guys come in what's up
J= so do you know how ember's birthday is on Tuesday
HV= oh yeah I can't believe she'll be one it seems like she was just born yesterday
E= I know we can't believe it either
J= anyways we want to know if we can do a little birthday party here on Tuesday for her with the unit
HV= I don't see why not unless we have a case that day then no
E= all right thanks
HV= it's no problem I'll do anything for my grandkids
J= that's what I told Erin
HV= I guess he knows me pretty well then
E= I guess he does that's all we need to know will get back to doing our paperwork

We go and finish the last couple pages of paperwork that we needed to get done and then we head out as we are walking down the stairs we're hear platt talking to someone
CM= hello I'm looking for detective Erin Lindsay and Jay Halsted
P= all right let me call up
E= no need to do that we are right here Platt
J= hey Chelsea what are you doing here
CM= I came to talk to you guys about something is there somewhere we can talk in private
E= yeah hey platt can we...
P= yeah you can
J= thanks platt
P= your welcome
J= right this way ( into the office)
E= so what is up
J= is there something wrong
CM= oh no nothing a song
E= okay good
CM= so the reason I stop by is because Porter has been with you guys for almost a year and a half now
J= wow that's crazy
CM= oh yeah anyways normally this part happens after year but all of a sudden we got busy down at the Child and family services stuff and I kind of forgot about Porter being with you guys
E= We totally understand that
CM= anyways so since Porter has been with you this song it's time to decide if you guys want to officially adopt Porter or not
J= of course we would
E= oh yeah
CM= well here is your paperwork talk it over to make sure that is what you guys want also maybe ask Porter to see if he wants to stay with you guys which I figured he would then call me back tomorrow with your guys answer ( hands over the paperwork)
J= all right
E= we will let you know
CM= all right talk to you guys later ( she leaves )
J= wow that's exciting
E= oh yeah I can't believe it Porter can officially be ours forever
J= I know I think tonight we should go to the park and have some ice cream to celebrate the news how does that sound
E= I love you and I love that idea
J= I love you too Ian let's go see the kids
We head home and hang out with the kids for a while until dinner time then we all jump in the car and head to a local park to eat. About 20 minutes later we all get done eating dinner
PJ= hey daddy can we go play on the playground now
E= you can buddy
J= but can you wait just a minute
PJ= yeah sure what's up did I do something wrong
E= of course not you did nothing wrong Porter
J= but we have a question for you
PJ= okay what is it
J= so remember how a little over a year ago I found you in that house
PJ= yes I do
E= you were so brave
J= well when you came to stay with me let me, mommy and Camryn they called that fostering
E= which means temporary
PJ= does that mean I have to leave
E= no not at all buddy it's just temporary until the state determines if it's time for said child which is you can get adopted
E= and today Miss Chelsea came by and asked me and daddy if we would like to adopt you officially buddy
J= and of course we would we couldn't imagine this family without you so our question for you is
E= how would you like to officially be Porter Jacob Halstead
J= how would you love to stay here forever and never leave
PJ= yes I would love that
E= same here buddy
J= so how about you guys can go play for a few on the playground
CN= okay daddy let's go Porter ( they leave)
E= I guess we have our answer
J= yes we do I say Porter is ours forever
E= I feel like he always has been
J= couldn't agree more love you babe

We stay in the park for a couple hours we enjoy some ice cream and celebrate our family becoming official very soon. The next day we hand-deliver the paperwork to Chelsea and now we wait on the official court date to officially a adopted Porter.
Jay's POV: it's been almost 2 months since I got a call from Will saying that my dad was in the hospital because he had a heart attack. At first I didn't really want to go see him because the way he always has been toward me but in the end I won't because it was more for Will then him. In the end it worked out pretty quick so me and my dad finally had the talk that was so overdue. Once he was out of the hospital I decided it was time for him to meet my kids it went pretty well ever since then we have seen him a couple more times since. Right now it's the day of ember's first birthday I can't believe she is one it seems like yesterday she was just born, i'm up before everyone else like usual so I go and make us some breakfast. About 10 minutes later I hear Erin trying to come up behind me quietly
J= don't even try to scare me babe I hear you coming
E= are you serious
J= yes I am but good morning babe
E= good morning babe ( kiss him) hey at least I tried to scare you
J= you tried but didn't succeed
E= oh whatever
J= happy anniversary babe
E= happy anniversary to you too babe ( kiss him)
J= so how did you sleep last night
E= pretty amazing how about you
J= I slept great
E= that's good so has the birthday princess or the other kids gotten up yet
J= nope they are still sleeping
E= that's good so that means we have some alone time with each other
J= oh yes we do ( picks her up and puts her on the counter) luckily the food is done
E= good thing ( starts kissing him and taking off clothes)
CN= mommy
PJ= daddy
J= I guess they are up now
E= how about we get the older two then we all get the birthday girl up together
J= Great idea let's go ( puts her back on the ground)
We go and get Camryn and Porter up then we all head into ember's room
E= are you guys ready to see the birthday girl
PJ= yes we are mommy
J= all right 3...2...1. ( opens the door) happy birthday baby girl
EG= dada
E= hey baby girl it's your birthday
CN= hey ember
PJ= hey ember happy birthday
J= are you ready to get out and eat
EG= yes daddy
E= all right let's go eat some breakfast
We all go and eat some breakfast with the kids after breakfast I clean up while Erin gets change for work and the kids play. We both get dressed and leave for work within 45 minutes after the nanny gets there we arrive at work and we walk in and see platt
P= hey Erin hey jay where is the birthday girl and the others
J= they are coming later on with the nanny
P= oh wait I can't wait to see them ( head up stairs)
AR= hey there they are so where are the kids at
E= damm are we chopped liver or what because everyone wants to know where the kids are at
KA= not really we just love your kids
VR= they are just the best
J= well thank you guys
E= ( walks to her desk) jay Alexander
J= what
E= how did these flowers get here
J= I didn't put them there
E= oh yeah I'm sure ( grabs the card)

J= wait really
E= yeah ( opens it) " to Erin and jay happy anniversary I'm happy to tell you that you guys will have the night off from the kiddos because they will be coming over to my house tonight love Hank"
J= are you serious

HV= it's no problem
We do some paperwork for a while then we start decorating the bullpen for ember's party. About an hour later the nanny and the kids show up
AD= finally the birthday girl is here
PJ= daddy ( runs to him)
CN= grandpa ( runs to him)
E= wait what about me where is my hugs at
EG= momma ( reached for her)
E= oh my sweet girl are you ready to eat some cake
EG= yes
J= good then let's get you in your high chair
KA= i'll go grab her smash cake
E= thanks Kevin
As Erin puts ember in her highchair me and Adam pushed all the task back a little so it's makes more room in the bullpen
KA= here is the cake
J= thanks Kevin
VR= that cake is so cute where did you guys get it
E= we got it from our favorite bakery sweet Mandy B's they make the best cakes ever
HU= i'll have to try them
VR= same here
J= all right kids are you ready to sing happy birthday to ember
PJ= yes we are daddy
E= all right 3...2...1 " happy birthday dear sweet ember happy birthday " ( jay and ember kiss ember's cheeks )
J= kids why don't you help her blow out her candle
CN= okay daddy ( they do)
E= aww we love you so much baby girl
AR= can we eat some cake now
HU= ( slaps him) really Adam
AR= what I'm hungry
J= yes we can eat some cake everyone gets cupcakes
As everyone eats we watch ember so we eat your cake about 10 minutes later she pushes the cake away so we let her out of her highchair to play with her siblings. Another 10 minutes later as me and Erin are talking with Vanessa and Kevin we hear something
CN= daddy
PJ= mommy and daddy look
E= ( they do) oh my God look at her
J= ember come to daddy ( she does)
HV= I guess you guys got a walker now
E= I guess so
KA= also she took her first steps in the bullpen which is pretty awesome
J= all yeah
AR= wait didn't Camryn quote for the first time in the bullpen
E= yes she did
VR= that's pretty cool both of your girls reached a mile stone here
J= that is pretty cool
We ended up staying at work for a couple more hours with a kid then Hank sent us all home we said goodbye to the kids since they were going to hanks house for the night. And since it was so last minute of not having kids we decided just to stop and grab our favorite Chinese food and head home. We get home within 30 minutes
E= so happy to have no kids tonight
J= couldn't agree more thank you Hank
E= oh yeah ( see something) jay you already got me flowers
J= I know but you deserve as many flowers that is possible
E= your so sweet
J= why thank you let's get inside because I'm hungry
E= all right ( get inside) really Jay another thing of flowers
J= I figured three years of marriage deserves three bouquets of flowers
E= you really are the sweetest and the best husband ever
J= you're so welcome
We eat our Chinese food and enjoy our long time that we got on our anniversary. We end up playing a couple rounds of Scrabble and it was nice. On Saturday we had ember's Big birthday party at a local park and I ended up inviting my dad to come celebrate with us and it turned out great
Authors note: I know that Porter and Camryn are only 3 and 2 years old so they don't have much of a vocabulary in general but for my story they are very well spoken hope that makes sense
