Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of Shadows of the Freelancers. Enjoy the 1200-word chapter. I don't own RvB, Rooster Teeth does.

(Insurrection Building, Spiral.)

William could tell that she didn't want to waste a rocket on him. It wasn't worth the effort, not with the warthogs which she destroyed nor the final hornet VTOL which she shot down, leaving the rocket launcher to tumble down the black asphalt like a discarded candy wrapper. William watched the final hornet, the last of Charon's air support crash into the ground.

"If she is capable of killing this many private securities soldier?" Xi questioned, appearing next to William who was silent, unsure of what was happening. "What exactly makes you sure this will end well? That Freelancer Agent is equal or superior to any Charon mercenary. Your chances of success in a real fight at 10.29%." Xi added to which William fell silent, unsure of what was going to happen next.

'Because if I fail? Their do worse than not pay me, they will kill me and make sure I'm used as an example of what happens to their soldiers if they screw up.' William thought as he sighed and continued to rev the engine.

He picked up an assault rifle from the wreckage of one of the warthogs. William opened fire, shell casings spilling into the road as the mercenary and the freelancer continued their vehicular battle.

'She doesn't have the case, meaning that whoever she's following has to have it. If the retrieval team fails? Then it will end up being me that needs to pick up the slack.' William thought as he shook his head.

Texas turned, eyeing the mercenary who slid through the wreckage. She revved the engine as he emptied the weapon in her direction, a few of the bullets managing to slam into the motorcycle. Texas slammed the brakes, throwing the motorcycle into reverse.

William tried to swerve out of the way only for the bike to slam into his vehicle back will first, it sent them flipping end over end as he was thrown from his vehicle, tumbling along the road as his mongoose exploded into wreckage and falling into the barriers around the wall.

William grunted, his armor taking the brunt of the fall. He looked up at Texas whose bike had exploded into scrap as well.

William pushed himself to his feet, staring across the cracked and blackened asphalt at the ebon soldier who had been the most persistent thorn in his side. He looked at her with interest and rage. Screw it, this was probably where he died unless the recovery team won. At the very least? I can tell she won't be backing up her friends anytime soon."

"First you blow up an oil rig, then a building." William said, slowly starting to stagger forward. "God, you freelancers sure love destroying humanity when you're supposed to be protecting them." William stated to which Tex was silent.

"You're not getting that case." William stated as he chuckled with amusement. "Which one of your bosses thought you could open it without biometrics?" William questioned, hoping that she took the bait.

It wasn't untrue, William believed there was actually some sort of advanced security in case they stole it from Charon. Still? Given enough time and resources? They'd cut through the security soon enough.

"Then I'll get a pair now." Texas stated as she charged at him.

William met her charge directly, slamming into her which knocked the duo back. Texas managed to regain enough of her footing to launch a double footed kick which William blocked with both arms, wrapping an arm around her foot and using it to slam her into the ground.

William went to pin Texas only for her to spin, kicking out William's legs as the soldier fell, catching another kick to his ribs as Tex flipped to her feet. William felt something crack, causing him to grit his teeth in pin.

"1st and 3rd Rib fractured." Xi reported to which William growled and charged Texas.

He spun, using the momentum to launch into a hammerfist on Texas, staggering the woman who was quite focused on fighting him. She managed to flip backwards, avoiding his next punch which would have possibly knocked her out cold. William balled up his hands and somersaulted towards her, landing a drop kick which almost sent her skidding backwards. She slammed into a truck which was almost dented and knocked off its bumper.

"Their burn this entire city down if it keeps that thing from you." William stated as he hummed. "Do you really think these guys are going to be the end of us?" William questioned before rushing forward.

She was good, if he gave her a single second to recover? She'd smash him into hamburger. It was enough for him to know he had to end this fight fast before he lost.

"You talk too much." Tex sneered as she caught his punch before he spun, pivoting to land a kick.

"And you don't seem to talk at all." William stated as he caught her foot before trying to swing his other leg. "There's nothing to you but skill and you're fighting for a bunch of people you don't know?" William stated as he hummed, brushing off his armor.

"Says the mercenary for a bunch of rebels." Tex responded before the two soldiers slammed into the divider.

Both knew the other wouldn't yield that easily. There was only so much he could do to stop her, if he could? Then he planned on doing it. Tex caught another of his kicks before driving her knee upwards.

William hissed in pain as he felt his lower regions burn in agony. He went to turn and punch her once more. Tex caught it, twisting his limb at an unnatural angle. William screeched in pain before Tex roundhouse kicked him.

William slammed into a crimson car, shattering the windshield and cracking the door as he slumped to the ground. Tex put a hand to her ear.

"Command? I need pickup. I'm stranded." Tex stated while she reported the situation. "I captured an enemy mercenary, high tech armor, weapons, advise?" Tex stated to she turned to William.

He had made her fail her primary objective. She knew the others could secure the case, but it was STILL her job to stop them and secure the objective.

However? Capturing an enemy mercenary like this? It would be quite interesting in her mind how command came down to it. Tex sighed and shook her head. "I still need someone to pick us up at the moment. Can someone pick us up?" Tex questioned to which she got a nod from this as she turned to look around.

She turned to pick up the mercenary at question.
