The Fowler Anxiety Results

Chapter seven

Penny prepared herself for one of the worst conversations she'd ever have to have with Megan. At nearly seven years old she was still young but mature enough to understand what it meant. Elliot and Alice were far too young to really understand but at three years old he would know that uncle Sheldon wasn't there anymore. Leonard set Megan down on the sofa, making sure that everyone else was out of earshot, he fought back the tears as all of the memories of Megan and Sheldon came to mind, Megan was the first of the group's children that he held. When Amy had first become pregnant, Sheldon got his head around it by making comments about how their baby and Megan would be friends. Megan did a lot more from Sheldon than anyone would admit, even Sheldon himself.

"Megan, we have news" Leonard took one look at Penny and a lone tear fell down his cheek, he had no idea how Megan was going to react "it's uncle Sheldon"

"Daddy, you're crying" Megan wiped the tear away and gave him a little smile, trying to cheer him up "has uncle Sheldon died?"

"he has" Leonard answered, trying to fight back all the emotions that were in his mind, he'd heard bad news before, and had to pass on bad news too, but there was nothing as bad as telling a seven year old that someone who was closer to her than most of her extended family, had died in the worst possible way, in an accident that she had herself witnessed "you know he was hurt in the accident?"

"yes, daddy" Megan felt her own tears fall down her face now "did they hurt him too much?"

"they did" Penny took over, realising that Leonard couldn't hold back the tears, or cope with the situation any longer "the doctors couldn't fix him"

"that's sad" Megan, in her innocence made the understatement of the millennium "does Stephen know?"

"not yet" Penny answered "and we're going to let auntie Amy tell him okay"

"okay, Mommy" Megan gave her a big hug, followed by giving her dad a big hug "can I go to my room now please, I want to be alone"

"sure" Penny smiled, hugging her one more time "and if you want to talk, you know where we are"

Megan ran upstairs obviously trying to keep her emotions in. Penny was so proud of her daughter, having Beverly as a grandmother wasn't easy. Even at nearly seven years old she knew exactly what Beverly thought of Leonard, and how she was treated accordingly while her cousins were treated like gold. Megan enjoyed spending time with Sheldon's mom much more, calling her Meemaw Mary, just like Stephen did, and loved the Teller side of her family, Grandad Wyatt being one of her heroes.

"that was one of the worst things we've ever had to do" Penny sighed, the mascara snaking down her face along with her tears "how is she going to get through this?"

"I don't know" Leonard agreed "how are any of us going to get through this?"

Amy found herself sitting with Bernadette in the relative's room. She didn't know how she had got from Sheldon's room in intensive care, to where she was now, Bernadette must've helped her, she didn't know why she was there, the last thing she remembered was being asked to leave Sheldon's room while they worked on him. why weren't they still there? Why had they come here? She didn't know.

"what's happened?" Amy's mind suddenly trying to make sense of this "where's Sheldon?"

"they've taken him to the morgue" Bernadette told her, the upset evident in her eyes "we will have to contact the funeral home"

"funeral home?" Amy seemed puzzled "the morgue?"

"yeah" Bernadette seemed more concerned for Amy now "Amy he's gone"

"have they taken him for more tests?"

"no" Bernadette wasn't sure how to deal with this. It was a known fact that the brain sometimes shuts down to block out trauma that it can't deal with, but that was Amy's speciality, not hers "don't you remember?"

"remember what?" Amy wished Bernadette would just tell her, she wanted to go back and see him and then go see her babies "where's Leonard"

"Leonard's gone home" Bernadette reminded her "Sheldon died"
