"Are you done yet?" Mordred asked impatiently making Ark sigh as he continued to trace a few more runes with his Magicka. After the Knight was told what the Mage was trying to do and with the male's Magic it's very possible that It can work. So Mordred has been asking her brother constantly if he was done yet. That has been going on for 2 hours now.
"Mordred, if you ask me one more I'm, I just let you stay in spiritual form for a bit longer." Ark said annoyed started to get fed up with his sister's constant nagging. He was glad the Knight finally shut up after that. "This is a very delicate process, and I don't want to mess it up." The Mage went back to drawing the large rune. "I know your excited Mordred, I am too, but Summoning is a very dangerous progress, not only that, but it's you who is involved with it, so I need to make sure it's absolutely perfect." Ark said as he finished the last bit of the rune.
Ark stands up and stood beside Mordred as they stared at the Mage's handy work. "Not bad if I do say so myself." The Knight snorts and tried to figure out what the runes do, only to give up in a matter of a few seconds.
"I will admit Ark, Merlin must of taught you a lot during the time of Camelot, bit even these symbols look ridiculous, I'm pretty sure this might even give that old wizard a headache from trying to figure it out." Mordred said shaking her head with a chuckle as she imagined the wizard pulling his hair out trying to see how her brother's runes even functioned.
"Eh, I try." Ark said before grabbing Clarent off his back and placing it in the center of the Summoning circle. "Ok, so this is a little bit similar to Summoning a servant, but this doesn't require all those dumb problems." Ark said making Mordred nod her head, at least she understood that.
"So, will I be at my normal strength or my Servant strength?" Mordred asked a very good question, Ark mentally gave his sister some brownie points for that.
"And excellent question sis." Mordred growled, but Ark ignored it. "You will be summoned as a Servant with no restrictions." The Knight stared at her brother and threw her arms up. Trying to figure out how that was all possible would make anyone's brain hurt, even a few certain Fate Enthusiast.
But there is only one word that Ark can say that would make everyone reluctantly agree to some extent. Bullshit, pure bullshit Magic, that only Ark had access too.
"No prana drain?"
"None."
"No commands seals."
"Nope, not like I will need them anyways, I trust you won't do anything rash... yet." Mordred nodded, she never tampered her trust with Ark, if anything he was the only person the Knight can trust.
"Is that it?" Ark put on a thinking pose trying to see what else there was, before looking thoughtful and shaking his head. "Oh lord, what can possibly make this better then it already is?"
"You'll be a bit more stronger then your normal Saber class, just a tiny bit, but it will definitely make the difference." Ark said while Mordred grinned and nodded her head. "Ok, you ready?" The Mage asked his big sister. Even though he was older, Mordred was still technically his big sister, and he was fine with that.
"Ready whenever you are bro." Ark nodded and looked at the large rune with Clarent in the middle of it. It's a bit late to say, but the duo were currently outside of Rin's house In the back. The Mage made absolutely sure nobody witnessed this so he placed a ton of fire runes all around the field making sure nobody stumbled apoun them, cause one mistake can cause this whole thing to fall apart.
Mordred stood back knowing Ark needs to concentrate for this part. The Mage shut his eyes as both hands held a familiar purple and black vortex. The Apprentice begins to channel Magicka into the large rune and can feel a very large portion of his Magicka pool slowly disappeared, but he pushed aside the feeling and continue to cast his spell.
Waving his arms around In some type of dance looked a little odd to Mordred, but she can feel a tug happening in her chest. She looked down and yelped when the Knight realized she was somewhere completely different, no longer in the backyard of the house.
It was an open field with a large castle in the middle of it. The castle was nearly as big as Camelot, but it had a more soothing feeling to it.
Looking around she saw a ton of Ark's summons looking back at her. Most were surprised while others stared at her curiously. One summon in particular ran towards her and pounced on her face, catching the young woman by surprise.
"Ah! Kit!" Mordred shouted trying to pull the Fox off her face who was happily yapping at the sight of the Knight. After a few seconds Kit finally let got of the female's head and just curled around her neck. "Ya, I missed you too fur ball." The female pats Kit on the head before feeling three more summons approaching her. She looked up to see Jean, Zack, and Aether.
Jean floated up to Mordred and gave her a light hug which surprised the Knight slightly, next was Zack and as usual he simply held his arm out allowing the girl to place a hand on it and nod at the frost Summon. Last was Aether who floated up to Mordred and placed a hand on her head causing her hair to stick out.
Mordred smiled slightly at how Ark's Summons treated her, it was kind of like having a family that genuinely cared about her. The Knight felt a tug of her chest and a familiar portal opened up behind her. She turned to look at it before having the urge to go through it. Kit already jumped off her shoulders so she did just that.
The Knight ran towards the portal and jumped through. Meanwhile the summons all looked at each other and nodded before going back to doing their own thing.
Ark snapped his eyes open as he felt the spell reach his end. Feeling the Magicka that he built up for the spell wanting to be released, he allowed it after confirming it was ready and absolutely perfect. Raising his arms he slammed his palms on the edge of the large runes. The Mage took notes of the spell In his head making sure to add it towards his arsenal of summons.
A large purple portal appeared in the middle of the rune and the sound of metal clanking together entered the Mage's ears. He slowly looked up to see none other then Mordred in all armor who stood there for a second before she looked around getting a feel for her body then grabbing Clarent off the ground and putting it on her shoulder.
Ark watched as the helmet slowly retracted into her armor allowing the Mage to see his sister's face. Standing up to his full height both siblings stared at each other before walking towards one another.
The moment they were in arms reach not a second later they embraced each other. Mordred practically squeezing her brother nearly breaking his spine in the process. Ark felt his eyed get a bit misty as he buried his face into his sister's hair.
"Hey, no getting emotional on my watch." Mordred said pushing Ark back a little bit roughly making the male chuckle slightly as he wiped away the tears. "That's better, now I have a few more questions about how you summoned me." The male nodded and prepared himself. "When you were casting the spell I was pulled into an area where your other Summons were, know anything about that?" All she got was a intrigued Mage. "I'll take that as a no."
"Ya, I never seen or heard about that, not like my summons really talked about where they are after disappearing." Ark said making Mordred shrug.
"It's a nice place, has a castle and everything, kind of reminds me home, but in castle form." Mordred said making Ark nod as he jotted down everything in his notes for later study. "Now what of my soul, I can tell you made a pathway for my soul so you can summon me your way instead of the Grails way."
"I did just that actually, you see using Clarent as a catalyst, I took your soul out of the Throne of Heroes and connected it with me, which is probably the reason why you were taken to that place." Ark explained as he started to pace back and forth his mind go all over the place to answer Mordred's questions.
"Ok, not like it will happen, but what If I was... struck down." Ark instantly has his attention on her and walked up to her with a stern look on his, and it actually made the Knight shrink slightly.
"I will never let that happen, I don't want a repeat of Camelot..." Ark lowered his head before took took a deep breath and looked his sister In the eyes. " However that's easy to answer, the first time I had to summon you with a rune filled to its max capacity of Magicka, but after finding out that it didn't actually take the much out of me, I can summon you again without all this." Ark pointed at the large rune on the ground.
"Ok, but that still didn't answer my question." Mordred was glad that she can be summoned again without all the preparation, but she still needed to know what will happen if she was critically injured.
"I'm getting to that, if you were ever critically injured, like all of my other summons, you will return to that area you just saw before being summoned, I believe in that plain of existence, you will be healed at a very quick rate, even If the wounds are critical, but that doesn't mean you should just rush into battle like a maniac." Ark said sternly staring at Mordred with a critical eye while the female crossed her arms and returned the look.
"Can I still be summoned by the grail?"
"Yes, I couldn't fully remove you from the grail, but it still works in our favor. Since you and me are connected now thanks to my little Summoning spell. So even if you were summoned by the grail and was somehow killed, you'll will keep all your memories from the war." Mordred looked surprised before had a thoughtful look.
"But won't you forget about this grail war?" All she received was a smirk. "And I have a feeling you have a way around that." The Knight said with a deadpan look on her face, realizing she was being worried over nothing.
"Yep." Ark said a smirk still on his face. "Come on, let's get inside, I need some sleep." The Mage said confusing the Knight slightly before she shrugged and started to follow him. "I'll tell you our game plan tomorrow..." Both sides suddenly froze before they glared at a certain tree. The feeling of being watched became apparent to them and followed to feeling towards a tree.
"I'm guess that's Archer." Mordred mumbled while Ark grunts and summons a fireball In his right hand. "I say we kill him and be done with it." She was about to walk over to the tree, but was stopped by the Mage who continued to glare at the tree.
"We can't... not yet anyways. Archer still has his uses, and my Master is allied to Archer's Master." Mordred clicked her tongue she honestly just wanted to kill Archer and be done with it, but her brother was right, and the one thing she trust greatly was her brother's plans. "Don't worry Mordred, you'll get your chance." Ark said pulling on his sister's shoulder, but she didn't budge. "I'll make you something to eat." The Mage said next when suddenly the Knight spun around and started dragging Ark into the house.
"Fine... when will we fight father." Mordred said her body tense at the thought of fighting King Arthur. The Mage can already feel the headache approaching.
"Ok, let me explain what is going on right now." Ark said as he directed Mordred towards the kitchen. The Mage decided to make one of his favorite meals for the Knight. Which was actually shrimp Alfredo. After a few minutes of making sure the sauce was thick and smooth he poured the noodles into a bowl and served it towards his sister.
Mordred looked down at the bowl and grabbed a fork. She twirled a good chunk of the noodles around the fork before taking a bite. Ark saw a small smile appeared on her face making him smile slightly.
"Ok, let me explain what is going on." And that's what Ark did, he explained what's happening in the war and what's going on. Of course Mordred flipped out when she heard that Ark's Master was also allied with Father's Master, but Ark was quick to calm her down and explain the reason behind it.
After a few more minutes, Mordred was listening pretty closely which that alone is weird, she wasn't one to listen she just rushes in head first, but it seems the Mage did change change Mordred's perspective a bit. Ark did after all beat some lessons into the Knight's head before the fall of Camelot.
"Ok, so we're allied only because you can't beat Berserker alone, and..." Mordred looked around understanding that this was supposed to be secret. "Other things, but the moment all the other Servants are dead, the alliance is off."
"Yep, back to a free for all." Ark said as Mordred played with her empty bowl for a few seconds thinking over what she was told and nodding her head slowly. "I know you much rather kill father, and you'll get your chance, just restrain your self a bit longer." The Knight pondered for a few minutes before sighing.
"Fine." Mordred said reluctantly making Ark grin and walk around the table. He put an arm around his sister making her look at the Mage.
"Don't worry Mordred, I have everything planned out." Mordred scoffed and shoved her brother away.
"Ya sure you do, you're not fooling me Ark, I know you think on the fly and just go with what you have." Mordred said standing up from her chair and turning towards Ark who crossed his arms. The Knight looked at Ark's casual clothes before her own armor disappeared leaving her In a very odd set of clothing.
"What the fuck are you wearing!" Ark shouted pointing at Mordred's set of clothes. It was the clothes she wore before getting a set of casual clothes by the necromancer.
The Knight looked down at her clothes and didn't know what the issue was. Looking herself over she still didn't see the issues. "I can't let you walk around with those clothes, come on, we still have time before daybreak." Ark started dragging Mordred out of the house.
"Hey! Asshole, what's wrong with these clothes!" Mordred growled as she continued to be dragged away by her brother into the sleeping city.
"Everything, the lower wear is fine, the upper wear is a big hell no for me!"
It took nearly an hour of Ark trying to find a good clothing store, before he finally found a decent store. He broke the door and shoved Mordred inside, telling her to pick a set of modern casual clothes. After a few minutes of waiting outside. He heard footsteps and looked to see Mordred walking out of the store In a familiar set of clothes. It was her 'normal' casual clothes.
"That's not any better." Ark mumbled, but he wasn't going to send Mordred back inside, he was mentally tired and slightly drained from Summoning Mordred, even with a very large Magicka reserves it still took a good chunk of it. "Alright, now that you have your modern clothes and don't look like some weird cosplayer let's go back. The Knight rolled her eyes as she fixed her jacket slightly making sure it was comfortable before following her brother since she doesn't know the layout to the city just yet.
So the duo was walking back to Rin's Place when suddenly Mordred stopped. The Mage stopped as well and looked at his sister with a curious expression. She was currently looking down at the ground, her face was a dead give away telling the Male that she wanted to say something.
"What is it Momo? I can tell your thinking since I see smoke coming out of your head." Ark asked finally using Mordred's nickname. The Knight laughed slightly and walks up to her brother who looked down at her.
There was a moment as both of them just stood there. Ark didn't try to do anything since he wanted Mordred to take the first steps. The Knight slowly looked up at her brother and balled up her hands. Ark expected a punch In the gut, but was surprised when Mordred suddenly hugged him burying her heading into his chest.
Taking note to her body trembling, Ark slowly wrapped his arms around her and rested his head on top of hers.
"Mordred?" Ark said slightly confused, but not pushing the Knight away, but all he got was silence.
"Shut up... just shut up and let me have this..." Mordred's voice was muffled, but it was trembling and the feeling of his shirt getting slightly wet was an obvious sign of her crying. Ark sighed and closed his eyes, a cold breeze blowing by them, but it went ignored. "I... I was scared Ark." Mordred said giving in to her fears.
"Scared of what?" Ark asked softly not at all wondering where this was coming from. The Mage's caring older brother instincts kicked in the moment he felt something wrong. "What could a mighty Knight like you be scared of?" He didn't say it sarcastically, but in a more curious way.
"I was scared that I'll never seeing you again." Mordred whispered gripping her brother's jacket tightly. "I was scared of what you'll turn out to be after Camelot... after my death." Ark reached up and stroked his sister's hair. Seeing such a usual hot headed person break down was unusual to many, but If you were Ark, that was a common thing between him and his sister. "The first month of my rebellion... I felt nothing but fear, I wanted to make you proud... but from time to time, I wanted to run away, find you and just leave this whole rebellion behind..."
Ark held Mordred close and took a deep breath, the Mage didn't want to cast a calming spell on the Knight, she needed to let these emotions out, it's better for their soul and conscious.
"Mordred... for what its worth... I too wanted to come back, try and convince you too leave that rebellion behind and screw whatever King Arthur thinks, he isn't worth it." Ark said his voice staying even all the way, but his grip around the girl was another story. "Everyday, I think about what your doing, or if you were even still alive."
Ark still doesn't know where this is coming or why Mordred suddenly wants to tell him all this, but like a caring siblings would do, he listened.
"I wanted to travel the world... but I couldn't bring myself to do it, especially not without you." Ark gently pushed Mordred back and looked down at her, but she didn't raise her head. "I imagined us being two swords for hire, collecting a few Bounties, drinking till we can't think straight..." Ark looked up at the night sky seeing the many starts that painted it.
Ark rarely looked at the sky to admire the stars, but when he does the Mage is never disappointed. The night sky always reminds him of his old life and how his little sister would always try and get him outside to go stargazing... he missed those days.
"Come, I want to show you something." Ark said taking a step back and turning around. Mordred looked up and quick followed. Taking a glance back the Mage saw how red the Knight's eyes were. It made him wonder how Mordred felt through the whole rebellion.
The Duo went up a empty hill leading away from the city. Ark sat down when he reached the top and Mordred soon followed. Both siblings stared at the city in silence before Ark fell back and stared at sky. "Lay down, look at the stars with me."
"Why?" Mordred asked still not looking at Ark as she rubbed her eyes. "Are you going to tell me more sappy shit... or are we here, because your bored." The Mage sighed, but is glad that the old Mordred returned.
"Momo, look at me." Ark said looking at his sister who hasn't moved or bothered laying down. "Mordred, there is nothing to hide from me, I'm your little brother and your my big sis-"
"I know what you're going to say, don't finish that sentence." Mordred glared at Ark who gave her a deadpan stare before sighing and shaking his head.
"Just lay down." The Mage said slightly annoyed, he was trying to help and Mordred was still fussy about calling her a girl. Mordred sighed and laid down beside Ark, both siblings stared at the sky and the Knight slowly became more entranced the more she stared at the night sky. "After the fall of Camelot, I would always lay down and stare at the night sky."
"Why?" Ark looked at Mordred who was still staring at the sky, her green eyes transfixed on a certain star which shined above everything else.
"Cause it helps me relaxes, takes my mind off what I saw." Ark said truthfully. The first week he never showed it, but after that week passed, the Mage was having mental breakdowns and night terrors.
Dead bodies flashing into his mind, the face of Mordred dead flashing through the Mage's brain. The way her hollow green eyes stared at him, haunted Ark.
This shows that he wasn't perfect or immune to fear... he was truly terrified of what he witnessed... but now, it doesn't bother him at all, dealing with it for a year and he gotten used to it, but there was time Ark would unconsciously jolt slightly in his sleep, even without him knowing.
"Ark..." Momo mumbled looking at the side only to see her brother sleeping. His eyes closed and breathing at an even pace. A chuckle left the Knight's lips. She turned back towards the and felt her own eye lids getting heavy, let out a large yawn, Mordred slowly closed her eyes and fell asleep very quickly.
