LiliescanBeViolet01 - I love fanart! Marcia's powers will come up towards the first few chapters that start Season 3.
Face the Music - It's Song Day!
"Uh… Star what am I watching here?" Marcia whispered to her friend.
"The worst song ever," Star said
The two girls stood before Star's interdimensional mirror watching an odd puppet show which featured a song based upon Star's mother when she was a princess.
"~Perfect Princess Moon, she's great in every way
Everything she says and does is absolutely right
Her hair is silky soft, her favorite color's pink
The flosses every day and she never needs to sleep!
The perfect Princess Moon, she's nice in every way
Always in a sunny mood, even on the cloudy days
Her sugar-coated heart of gold will make everything fine
She plays with puppies and kisses kitty-cats
Eats her veggies and smells like lavender
Perfect Princess Moon, she's a fan of smiles
Perfect Princess Moon will be our Que-ee-e-e-e-een!~"
When the song is over soft clapping could be heard. The screen shifts revealing Queen Moon.
"Ugghh! Mom! Worst. Song. Ever. Do I have to have one of those written about me?" Star groaned
"Yes, Star. It's a tradition as old as the kingdom itself. And it's your official introduction as future queen to the people of Mewni," Queen Moon said
"That song didn't say anything about the real you. You could plug any name into that song, and it wouldn't make a lick of difference. How about…" Star's tone shifts to more sarcastic. "Buttercup! Sparkle! Snowflake! They all happen to love puppies and smell like lavender? Wow."
"I don't have time for this, Star. Preparations for your Song Day celebration are already underway, and the new official songstrel of Mewni is heading to Earth to write your song as we speak," Queen Moon said
Star groaned again. "Fine."
"And remember, Star, the people of Mewni like their Princess Songs light and fluffy. Can you handle that?" Queen Moon questioned
"Yes, Mom." Star closed the curtain over the mirror. "Oh, I can handle it-by avoiding this problem until it goes away."
"Are you sure that's a good idea Star?" Marcia questioned
"Shush Marcia. I can't avoid the problem if you're there reminding me of it," Star said
Later that day a portal opened up down the street of the Diaz home. A carriage pulled by manticores comes out of the portal stopping just before the Diaz home.
The carriage door opens and out steps a young man holding a lute. He makes his way up to the front door ringing the doorbell. A moment passes and Star opens the door.
"Ha-ha. The songstrel," Star said
"Greetings, Princess Star! I am Ruberiot."
He introduced himself before he started singing.
"~And may I just say
Though we have much to do
How much of a pleasure it is to meet you
I'll write you a-"
Star put a hand up. "Stop. I get it. Come in."
She steps aside allowing Ruberiot in.
"So, this shouldn't take too long." Ruberiot takes out a pad of paper and a pencil. "I just want to get to know the real Star."
"Oh, how rude of me!" Star laughed "I didn't even offer you anything. What can I get you? Water? Juice? Tea?"
"Ha. Well, if you have mint tea, that might be-"
"As a matter of fact, we do! Marcia is a member of the Tea of the Month Club, and I think we just got some super-special mint tea. Right, Marcia? Don't move!" Star said
Marcia, who was sitting on the couch flipping through TV channels, paused. "Tea of the Month Club?"
Star ran into the kitchen opening and closing drawers and cupboards. Tossing things around, as she pretends to make tea.
"Should be just a minute!" Star called out.
Marcia and Ruberiot sat next to one another on the couch. The young man started to strum on his lute and Marcia winced at the noise putting a hand over one of her ears, for some reason the sound ringing sharply in her head. She grabs the remote and turns up the volume of the TV.
"Oh, this tea is really good!" Star exclaimed
She pulled out her wand and summoned Cloudy.
"Hey, Star!" Cloudy said
"Cloudy! Let's get out of here." Star said
She hopped on Cloudy and as the two flew out of the home Star brought out her cellphone.
"Hey, Janna Banana, want to go to the mall?"
When Star didn't come back, Marcia went into the kitchen.
"Star what-and she's gone," Marcia sighed
"She's gone?"
Marcia let out a startled yelp mixed with a hiss as she jumped. She jumped on the kitchen counter on all fours her back arched, her eyes contracting into sharp slits.
"Whoa!" Ruberiot gasped surprised taking a step back.
Marcia shakes her head then climbs off the counter. "Sorry, you startled me. You've got some really silent footsteps."
The Diaz front door opened and in stepped Star. She paused seeing not only Ruberiot still there but Marcia sitting by his side, the girl holding a guitar.
"Hey! You're back!" Marcia and Ruberiot said
"You're still here...Well, goodbye." Star did a 180 about to leave the house again.
"Please! Princess!" Ruberiot kneels before Star. "I have a job to do, and I can't leave until it's done."
"And I won't stay until you're gone," Star said
"But what about your Song Day celebration? In just a day, the people of Mewni will be expecting us to perform the traditional Princess Song-"
"Ah-ah-ah-ah! I don't want to hear it, songstrel. If you don't leave right now, maybe I'll leave for good," Star said
"Hey, Star!" Marcia sprung forward grabbing Star's shoulder. "Before you leave us alone again...for a very long time with no explanation...could you help me make some more popcorn in the kitchen?" Marcia starts dragging Star to the kitchen.
As Star is pulled along she looks at Ruberiot giving him the I'm watching you signal.
When the two girls are in the kitchen Marcia faces Star.
"Please. Just do what he says. He's been singing at me for six hours, asking where you are! I only got him to pipe down by playing my guitar. Star I played for two hours!" Marcia said
"Well, I'm sorry, but I don't want anything to do with Ruberiot and his stupid Princess Songs. My mom's was so stupid and so fake and so old-fashioned it's just not me," Star said
"It's okay, Star. Everyone knows your anything but ordinary," Marcia said
"Aww. Thanks, Marcia." Star pulls Marcia in for a hug. "Huuuugs...He's, uh...he's staring at us, isn't he?"
"Yup," Marcia said
The two girls get out of their hug to see Ruberiot sitting on the couch peering over the edge staring intently at the two girls.
"Ugghh! Fine. Ru-ber-i-ot if that even is your real name. You. Me. My room. Talk time," Star said
Star brought Ruberiot to her room, the musician happy that he could finally start writing.
"It's an honor to be your official songstrel, your Highness. I have some really exciting ideas that I can't wait to get your opinion on," Ruberiot said
"Ruby, just stop. Please. I know my mom sent you here, but honestly, I am sorry, I can't help you. Princess Songs are objectively awful. They are these trite little puff pieces about perfect little princesses with perfect little lives, and that's not me! And songstrels like you are part of the problem! Your music just puts pressure on future princesses to be perfect! So you might as well take your stupid notebook and your stupid lute and go back to Mewni, because I have no interest in helping some stupid hack write a stupid Princess Song!" Star exclaimed
Ruberiot frowned, "...Oh, really?"
"Yeah, really!" Star said
"Fine." Ruberiot tossed away his pad and pencil. "But for what it's worth, I also think the songstrels before me were hacks. You didn't think I had an opinion? That maybe I had some integrity? I wanted to write a real song about a real princess with all her gifts and flaws. Don't Mewmans deserve to know their future queen?" He sniffled his voice cracking a bit. "But you won't even help me do my job! I might as well just take your mom's song and just plug your name in and be done with it! You know, like some kind of hack!"
Ruberiot opens an interdimensional portal and dives in.
"Wait! Ah, no! No-no-no-no-no! Ruby!" Star shouted
"Hey Star!" Marcia entered the room backwards, her hands full as she held a tray with a tea set. "Turns out there is a tea of the month club and my Dads in it. I've got winter white Earl Grey…" Marcia trailed off turning around seeing just Star. "Uh...bad time?"
Back in Mewni, Ruberiot was home, sitting sadly in front of a piano. He played a few notes on the ivory keys of the piano in a melancholy manner.
"~Perfect Princess Star is great in every way…~
"Hmm."
"~Perfect Princess Star is-Argggh!"
Ruberiot let out a frustrated grunt slamming his head on the piano keys.
"It's so awful!"
He rolls his head against the piano keys inharmoniously playing music.
"~Stupid Princess Song! Why do I even try?~" He angrily sang before letting out a sigh. "Face it, Ruberiot. You are a hack like all the rest." He picked up some sheet music crumbling it up before tossing it away. "You'll never amount to anything!"
"Whoa. So you're, like, a totally tortured artist. Cool! That is a lot of paper just to plug a name into a previously existing song."
Ruberiot let out a gasp turning around. He spotted Star and Marcia standing in the middle of his pile of crumpled papers. Well, Star was standing, Marcia, for some odd reason, was crouched on the ground batting away at a wad of paper in between in her hands, her eyes wide in unusual fascination.
"What do you want?" Ruberiot asked
"You, uh...you forgot your stupid notebook. Ruberiot, do you really hate Princess Songs as much as I do?" Star asked
"I do, Princess. I-I thought I could change them. I-I know they can be better. I can do better. But the show is tomorrow, and I have nothing! If I go out there with your mom's old song, I'll be just as bad as all the others," Ruberiot sighed, "This is bad. Why did I drop out of lawstrel school? Good-bye, aspirations. Hello, flipping cornburgers."
Star took a seat next to Ruberiot. "Ruberiot, nothing is that bad when you have a magic wand. How about you and I turn this silly tradition into something real?"
While Star was on her little venture Queen Moon was having a real daring time of her own. She entered her bedroom wearing a cloak looking quite disheveled. She took off her cloak as she approached a large curtain. With a flourish of her hands, the curtains pulled away revealing a door. The diamond-shaped markings on her cheeks started to glow and the door opened.
The bedroom door opens and in stepped King River.
"Moon, darling! You're back!"
Queen Moon turned around now dressed in her armor brandishing two swords.
"You're wearing that to Star's Song Day?" River questioned
Queen Moon gasped in realization, "Song Day...!"
Night fell upon Mewni and the residents gathered in the castle's courtyard. Merchandise of Star, and amazingly enough Princess Marcia, was being sold.
"Get your corn slaw here! We got corndogs, kettle corn, bacon-wrapped corn…"
"Get your exclusive Star Butterfly merch here!"
"We've got the newest Princess Marcia dolls! Now with realistic karate chop arm!"
There was a royal seating box where the Magic High Commission was seated. Queen Moon and River came running over taking their seats.
"Whew. Okay. We made it," Queen Moon said, her hair a little disordered.
"Oh, you lost one of your curlybadoos, dear." River pushes his wife's hair back into place.
Star and Marcia enter the scene, both girls wearing dresses.
"Hey, everyone! Mom, hi!" Star greeted
"Hey, Queen," Marcia greeted with a polite curtsey.
"Oh, my gosh, I had the worst wardrobe malfunction. Do you know how hard it is to find a decent shoulder tassel in an Earth mall? It was just faster to have Marcia make one. Oh. Hey. You got a little thingy in your hair." Star pointed at her mother's hair.
"A what?" Queen Moon questioned
"A little...thingy-thing." Star reached up pulling a twig out her mother's hair.
"Oh," Queen Moon said with a hint of worry behind her words.
"How'd that get there?" Star asked
Queen Moon takes the twig from Star tossing it aside. "Thank you, dear. Star, I want to tell you something."
"I know it's not very princess-like to show up late, but did you see traffic on the Royal Mile?" Star said
"Please, let me finish. I just want to say how...how proud I am of you," Queen Moon said
"What?" Star exclaimed, her eyes widening a bit.
"I know Princess Songs aren't exactly your cup of tea, and I know I can be...hard on you sometimes, so it means a lot to me that you still went through with it," Queen Moon said
"Thanks, Mom. But, uh…" Star glanced to the side. "Just so you know, Ruby and me, we kinda changed some stuff. I mean, it's just not gonna sound exactly like your Princess Song did. So, you know, don't freak out or anything."
"Thank you for telling me, Star, but I trust your judgment," Queen Moon said
"Ohhhh, thank you! But we really went off-script. It's all good, but there might be, like-"
"And now, Mewni's newest court composer, the songstrel Ruberiot!" An Announcer said
The audience applauded ready for the show to begin.
"In honor of the Royal Family-"
A spotlight shines on Star, Moon, and River.
"I really hope you like it. I think I know you will, but I really hope you do," Star said
On the stage, a marionette doll of Star Butterfly is lowered.
"-presents Star Butterfly's Princess Song!"
Ruberiot strums his lute beginning the song.
"~Who is the maid with the buttercup hair?~"
"~Who sleeps on moonbeams and dances on air~"
"~With tears made of honey and a heart full of bunnies~"
"~Whose infinite virtues are known near and far~"
"~It's Mewni's own sweetheart, our dear Princess Star~"
"~And under the shimmer and rubies and pearls~"
"~Lies hidden a fierce and adventurous girl~"
"~The forces of evil that lurk in the night~"
"~Will cower in fear when this shooting Star…~"
"~Ignites!~"
Ruberiot smashes the lute on the ground causing the audience to gasp. Ruberiot tears away his clothing to reveal a rocker style outfit, and he pulls out an electric guitar.
"~Weaving magic like a born spell-caster~"
"~And wreaking havoc like a natural disaster~"
"~She rocks her Narwhal Blast and Warnicorn Stampede~"
"~She's gonna earn her crown, so hail to the Quee-e-e-en!~"
The change was a surprise but the audience was loving it, cheering at Ruberiot.
"~Cause she's a rebel princess, she's the best~"
"~She's a ball of lightning in a hot pink dress~"
"~She's a thunderstorm roaring through the night~"
"~She's our shooting Star, and she's lighting up the sky! Oooh~"
"Yeah! That's my girl!" Rhombulus cheered
"What a delightful little ditty! Good job, Star!" Queen Moon said
Star smiled nervously. "Oh, yay. It's not over yet."
The music slows down and Ruberiot's voice gets low.
"~Shooting Star shining in the night so bright~"
"~She started to attract a pair of envious eyes~"
"~The villain rose up from behind the jester's cross~"
"~She drove him away, but didn't know what she had lost~"
"~Glossaryck and her book of spells~"
"~How could she know Ludo would take 'em for himself?~"
"~She confessed to her parents, all full of dread~"
"~The king and queen exchanged a look, and this is what they said~"
"~This is what they said, this is what they said:~"
"This is going well right? Right?" Star whispered to Marcia with a strained smile.
"Yeaaah," Marcia said, not convincing, wearing her own strained smile.
"~We will keep your silence for you~"
"~From the citizens of Mewni and the High Commission too~"
"~To keep the peace, we will play the game~"
"~Royal secret from royal shame~"
"~Royal secret from royal shame"~"
"Star?" Queen Moon said, turning to her daughter.
Star made some strained noises avoiding eye contact.
"Star," Queen Moon repeated her daughters name more sternly
"Mom, what did you expect? I told you I couldn't do some puff piece. I had to do what felt right for me." Star sighs. "Look, it's over now, so we just gotta move on-" She pauses when the song continues on. "-wait, what?"
"~Royal secret-one last to tell~"
"~A princess with a friendship no one could ever dispel~"
A marionette doll of Marcia drops in next to Star's.
"Hey Star, I don't remember this part," Marcia whispered
"Me either," Star whispered back.
A Marcia marionette joins the Star marionette on stage.
~Who is the girl in the earthly attire?~"
"~Whose feminine ways draw in many admirers~"
"~Behind those doe eyes~"
"~What incredible secrets they hide?~"
"~A magical warrior ally~"
"~Of Princess Star Butterfly.~"
Marcia tilts her head confused. "Magical warrior?"
The song came to an end and everyone was confused, the crowd chattering perplexed.
"Hey. What's wrong? You're supposed to be clapping," Ruberiot said
"Say what?! The Queen lied to us!"
"Well, technically, it was a lie by omission."
"Omitters!"
The crowd quickly stirs with anger, yelling and booing. The anger swiftly escalates as the audience starts throwing food and trash up at the royal viewing box. Everyone flees taking shelter in the throne room.
"Mom! I-I didn't realize this would happen! I thought they wanted to know the real Star Butterfly!" Star exclaimed
"They don't, Star. They just want to believe that you're a perfect little princess. And sometimes, the truth is dangerous," Queen Moon said
"With all due respect, Moon, withholding information about Glossaryck and the spellbook has put us all in danger! Also," Hekapoo faces Marcia, "Since when have you had magic?"
"I don't! I don't think!" Marcia said
Lekmet let out a bleat.
"Uh, y-yeah! Like the goat said!" Rhombulus said letting out a nervous chuckle.
"I assure you, I had every intention of-"
Hekapoo cut off Queen Moon, "Every intention of what?!"
"I had everything under control!" Queen Moon said
"How dare you hide something like that?!" Hekapoo said
"I wasn't trying to hide anything!" Queen Moon said
The two start arguing back and forth.
"Uhhhhh...so...Star what do we do?" Marcia questioned
"Just back away...slowly," Star whispered
She and Marcia take slow light steps backing up to a window nearby.
Star waves her wand and summons Cloudy.
"Hey, Star!" Cloudy greeted
"H-Hey, Cloudy. Let's, uh, get out of here." Star said
Marcia climbs on the edge of the window and lets out a whistle. As she jumps out Liger appears from a portal and Marcia lands on his back. Cloudy flies away with Liger running not too far behind.
