RWBY: The Verdant Light of Remnant
Chapter 3: The Shining Beacon
Author's Notes: Hey guys, it's me again. like i promised, i'm gonna answer some questions that i know i'm having lately, so here we go.
1: the setting of this Remnant is the same as it is in canon, i'm just expending on it, as well as explaining a few things that were never explained. a big example is to why Ozpin is referred to as a King, for a few reasons, A: you can't have a Kingdom without a King, just like you can't have an Empire without an Emperor, it makes no freaking sense! & B: Cause i think that having somethings that Byleth could familiarize like monarchies, kings, ETC. & if you ask me, 80 years is not enough time for such a big change of a world order, monarchies take FOREVER to die out. would make her feel a bit less like an outsider. but just to make it clear, Ozpin's word isn't the be all end all, he still needs approval from the council & he can't just do whatever the hell he wants, his title of King is powerful, but not THAT powerful, think of it like a figurehead of sorts... Unless you're Ironwood who has 2 council seats for some godforsaken reason!
& 2: Ruby & how different she is from canon, characterization wise. i made sure to keep her optimistic crime fighting personality as much as i could, but as i was writing her in the first 2 chapters, i realized how hard it is to write a character like Ruby without making it boring... But let me just make something PERFECTLY clear: i DO NOT think Ruby is a BAD character, she's NOT a bad character. characterization wise, i think she's an amazing character & fits her role as "The Flat Character MC" well. she's not perfect, but then again, NOTHING'S perfect & IMO, true Perfection doesn't truly exist never will. But that doesn't make it any easier to write her without MAKING her boring by accident... & the fact that CRWBY treats her life a waste of space for the most part only makes it worse (whichas a quick heads up, i WON'T let Ruby become irrelevant as often, THAT much i can promise you) So as much as it pained me, i had to give her a few more stuff for me to write about. & fittingly enough, i decided to expend her character based of another Flat Character MC, Sonic The Hedhehog, more specifically, his portrayal in the genesis games, Adventure 1, 2, Heroes, Unleashed & the 2 story book titles. & since they're both speedsters that have a good moral compass, this was a good choice. that said, i understand why it would put people off i'm sorry if you feel that way & i'm honestly not fully happy with this decision myself, so DO try to forgive me, if possible.
But anyways, that's for the questions you might have & i'm gonna answer some more in the end notes, so stay tuned & as usual.

The Island of Patch, a large island rich in greenery & nature that resides northwest of the Kingdom Capital of Vale. It is a wonderful place filled with gorgeous wildlife, jaw droppingly beautiful rivers & waterfalls, as well as a wonderful forest that surrounds the island. The island houses many people who prefer to live in peace outside of the boarders of the Kingdom Capital of Vale & unlike most settlements of that nature, Patch can hold its own extremely well. The island consists of a large village that resides around the southeast of the island which is also where the Combat School of Signal is located, however there are a few houses that reside throughout the island. Such as the case of our Heroine's home which resides far into the southwest, where a certain gravestone was resting just further to the south.
The Rose Xiao-Long Household is a large, 2-story tall log cabin with a red sheet of metal roof & a cobblestone chimney. Our heroine: Ruby Rose is already packing her stuff for her stay at Beacon Academy, when she gave the news to her Father & Sister after coming back home, they were overjoyed, but her Father: TaiYang Xiao-Long is a little worried about her youngest daughter attending Beacon at an earlier age than usual & who could blame him? He's witnessing his daughter finishing packing her stuff through the door of her room.
TaiYang: I still can't believe what happened last night. You went to fight off a group of thugs led by a well-known criminal mastermind, then you saved a few cops from getting seriously hurt & when you finally had a meeting with Old Oz, you met a pair of sisters who came out of thin air?... You had quite the night yesterday, haven't you?
Ruby: *Packing some extra clothes* Yeah, that's one way to have a night off… At least I didn't destroy a whole Bar-club like a certain "Hothead" we all know.
"Hothead": I HEARD THAT!
TaiYang: *Laughs* Yeah, no kidding… But I still need to know… Are you really okay with leaving Signal 2 years ahead to go to Beacon? I know you're pretty much at the top of the rankings & even won the last local tournament. But a Huntsmen Academy is a different beast to tame on its own, Ya'know.
Ruby: *Sighs* I know… & Honestly, I'm pretty nervous in going this soon. I know I was excited when I told you guys the news last night, but-… I can't help but feel overwhelmed a little bit, is that normal?
TaiYang goes over to her youngest daughter & embraces her from behind to comfort her.
TaiYang: Trust me, sweetie. Not feeling nervous to go to a place like Beacon at all isn't normal. I know how you feel, but I'm sure you can handle it… *Tightens the embrace* Just… Promise me to take good care of yourself… & to have fun, ok?
As Ruby finished packing, she turns around & returns her Father's embrace.
Ruby: I know, dad… I never blamed you for being so worried & protective of me, especially when I was a lot younger… But I don't have any plans of dying right now, I promised to both you & Mom that I'd become strong, that I'd become the greatest Huntress alive… Then after graduation, I'd finish what my Mom started & come back home alive… Whatever took her away from us, I promised you all that I'd stop whatever that threat may be, so that it can't hurt anyone else again… I'll come back safe & sound afterwards… No matter what!...
They stay in that embrace for a little while longer before TaiYang lets go of Ruby & helps her carry her stuff downstairs where Yang is waiting. Yang Xiao-Long is a tall, fair-skinned & very well in-shape 17-year-old young woman with lilac eyes & a long, curly, absolutely gorgeous golden hair that reaches her upper-thighs. Yang is Ruby's half-sister, they share the same Father, but have different birth mothers, but for all they care, they still share the same Mother in their eyes: Summer Rose.
She wears a tan jacket that completely her midriff while also exposing her 8-pack abs. Her tan jacker also has golden brown piping and short, puffy sleeves with black cuffs that feature two gold buttons, exposing her biceps pretty well, with her left arm in particular having a purple bandana. Underneath this, she wears a low-cut yellow crop top with her emblem on the left breast in black, which exposes a lot of her cleavage & really shows off how massive her chest is, something that her younger sister is quite jealous off. She also wears a short orange scarf to go well with her brown & yellow color scheme, both the scarf & the bandana are worn as a memento to her Mother: Summer.
She also wears a brown belt covered by a pleated brown piece of material reaching from hip to hip around the back of her waist, with her emblem emblazoned on the right-most pleat in gold. Underneath this is a long, white, asymmetrical piece of material reaching to her knee on the right side, as well as a pair of tight black-jeans short-shorts that reach her upper thighs & shows off her hips quite nicely. She wears a pair of brown, knee-high boots and orange over-the-knee socks. & Finally, a pair of thick, golden bracelets which are just her weapon: Ember Celica, in non-combat form.
Yang: Took you long enough to show up. Here I thought that I would have to go attend Beacon without you after all.
While Ruby is a little annoyed from the teasing, she knows that it's coming from a good heart & besides, she's used to having her older sister spoil her from time to time.
Ruby: Honestly, I still wonder how I'm still the inpatient one around the house. But that aside, I'm all ready to go!
Yang: Good, cause the ship that'll take us to Beacon will take off in 2 hours, so we better hurry. *Smirks mischievously* Unless you're not fast enough, of course.
Ruby: *Smirks* Is that a challenge, Onee-Chan?
Before the 2 began butting heads with their usual sisterly rivalry, their father stepped in to break them off.
TaiYang: Okay, okay, break it off, you 2. This is an important day for all of us & I don't want it to get too competitive too quickly, alright?
The sisters did as they were told & chilled out, just in time for their Father to bring the both of them for a warm hug.
TaiYang: Words can't express how proud I am of you girls, I know you'll both do great at Beacon Academy & I know that you're going to make all of us proud, just be careful out there, okay? & Make sure to keep me in contact, I wanna know how things are going for you both & remember that no matter what happens, live your lives to the fullest!
Both sisters embraced their Father back, wanting to make this moment last for as long as they could since this is the first time that they'll be away from TaiYang for a longer period of time.
Yang: Yeah, we will… & We'll show them who's boss, we had the best Dad & Teacher we could ask for… We'll make sure to keep up to date.
TaiYang: I'm sure & watch over your sister for us, okay? & Ruby… I know it will be hard, but just try to be yourself & it will all run smoothly from there, keep Crescent Rose with you wherever you go, alright?
Ruby: *Nods while tearing up* I will, I love you Dad… We both do!
TaiYang starts to tear up as well & pecks his girls on the head as he pulls them closer in his embrace.
TaiYang: I love you too… The both of you!
After a tearful goodbye, the Rose Xiao-Long sisters wave their Father goodbye as they head off to the airport of Patch to get a bullhead to Vale & then a large airship that goes to Beacon Academy. The sisters are sitting on a bench where they can watch the view from the window so that they can see Beacon from afar, with Yang still excited that her baby sister is going to Beacon with her as she's hugging Ruby tightly.
Yang: I still can't believe that my baby sister is going to Beacon Academy with me, this is gonna be awesome!
Yang gives out the best hugs… But most of those hugs are usually too tight & bone-crushing. But ever since they were small children, Ruby had to deal with these hugs a lot, so she's used to it by this point.
Ruby: Y- Yeah! It's still amazing that the King would be kind enough to let me join 2 years earlier, although I'm still pretty nervous…
Yang: Aw~, don't be like that. Once you land at Beacon, everyone will know that you're "The Bee's Knees"!
Ruby: *Groans in annoyance* But I don't wanna be "The Bee's Knees" or any kind of knees! I just wanna be a normal girl with normal knees… I'm not going to Beacon to become popular, I'm going to Beacon to become stronger & I don't want to be treated special since I'm moving 2 grades up…
Yang holds her sister a little less tight so that she could console her about this. It's true, Ruby will most likely be treated differently for moving 2 grades up & they both know how envious teenagers could be to this kind of stuff.
Yang: Ok Ruby, first: you are special, special to me! & Second: I'll be there for you no matter what, I'll always got your back, sis. Ya'know that, right?
Ruby smiles softly as she sinks into her sister's embrace, giving her a small nod. As the sisters are having their little moment, the holograms of the airship start to broadcast the news about Roman Torchwick, hosted by the news reporter: Lisa Lavender.
Lisa Lavender: [We interrupt this program with a broad newscast, we've been seeing many attacks & robberies by the underground mafia known as "The Phantom Pumpkins" led by the famous Roman Torchwick alongside a mysterious hooded figure that works alongside him known as The Fall Empress. While we have no information about the latter except for the fact that she appears to have the ability of Pyrokinesis, Roman is a whole other story. He's been famous for many robberies, mostly robbing Dust from dust shops, although his reasoning to focus mainly on Dust is unknown, he also appears to have some Atlesian Technology given that his ships & some of his weapons look like they're native to Atlas, but this has not been confirmed as of the time of this recording. His most recent robbery wasn't as smooth thanks to a young girl with a mechanical scythe & a red hooded cape intervening & taking down a few of his men, who are currently under custody & being interrogated by the Valean Police Force or V.P.F. for short. After some research, the V.P.F. concluded that the mysterious girl who fended off against The Phantom Pumpkins was a girl named Ruby Rose, who according to our sources, is an extremely talented Huntress in training who not only was Signal's greatest student that they had for a very long time, but she also quelled a Grimm Invasion on Patch almost singlehandedly. Before Roman Torchwick got away, he shot down an outdoor that was about to fall on a pair of cops taking one of their injured men away, Ruby didn't think twice before rushing at those 3 & rescuing them from getting seriously hurt, which gave Roman Torchwick the opportunity to escape with his remaining troops. Despite not being able to stop the dangerous leader of the underground mafia, the young lady was still rewarded by the cops she rescued. One of them in particular is right next to me & was the previously mentioned Cop, named Lacus Silva, that was being taken away due to his injuries, let us hear his thoughts about the matter at hand, shall we?]
Editor's Note: Lacus Silva is Latin for Lake Forest.
Lisa extends her microphone to Lacus who's currently in a hospital bed, still recovering his injuries from the explosion last night, thankfully his injuries aren't too serious.
Lacus: [Thank you, Ms. Lavender & I gotta say, I've seen many skilled Huntsmen & Huntresses in training in my time as a cop, but never on the skill that this Ruby girl had & I could tell that she was holding back a lot. I'm just grateful that she helped us out when she did, I fear that we would've loss a lot more men otherwise. As for the guys she knocked out that we later arrested, investigations aren't going well from what my fellow policemen have told me. Those punks are very loyal to their boss, that's for sure! As for my injuries, the doctors said that I should be good to go in a few days' time, which is good cause I'd like to thank that girl personally on the off chance we cross paths again, she's definitely a good kid.]
The camera goes back to focus on Lisa Lavender as she wraps up her broadcast & as she does, a lot of the students inside of the ship turn their glances on Ruby, who's looking down blushing from how embarrassed she is at the moment. Seeing that her sister needs some help, Yang quickly glares at everyone who's giving her sister a funny look that screams "Back off & leave her alone or I'll make you!" as her eyes suddenly change from a soft lilac to a burning hot red. Not wanting to be in the infirmary in their first day, the students that were looking at the sisters quickly backed off & looked at the opposite direction while sweating nervously.
Except for one student who's watching the sisters from afar while reading a novel. She's a tall young woman with long & smooth raven hair, she's wearing a large bamboo hat that hides her sharp, fierce & threatening hazel eyes, the pupils of said eyes look like that of a cat's. Her attire is that of what you usually see in old wandering ronin movies. With a color pallet of purples, blacks & some whites. The last 2 being from the sashes you can see in her ankles, her wrists & a bit in her chest as a made-shift bra.
As Lisa Lavender finally finishes her broadcast, much to Ruby's relief, the hologram then projects an image of Glynda Goodwitch. She's about to make a brief speech to the students that are arriving at Beacon Academy & as she does, we take quick glances of a few of the students that are currently in the same ship as the Rose Xiao-Long sisters.
Like a tall, blond young man with a black hoodie, white armor & navy-blue jean pants trying his hardest not to throw up on the ship due to motion sickness, as well as a pair of youths who are watching the view of Beacon Academy from another window.
The shorter of the 2 is an orange-haired girl with bright green eyes, wearing a sleeveless black shirt that reveals some cleavage & a bright pink short-skirt, with high boots as footwear. Her weapon looks to be a cylinder hunk of metal that's hanging on her hip.
While the taller of the 2 youths is a young slender boy with jet-black hair & magenta tips. He wears something you'd see a ninja wear, just without the hood & mask. Said attire sporting a dark green color, with the legwear being black. He also seems to be carrying a dagger on his left arm.
Our next character of focus is a very tall red-haired girl with a bronze gladiator armor & a black skirt wrapped in a bright red sash. She appears to be some sort of athlete, due to her physic looking rather muscular compared to the other woman on the ship outside of Yang. For some odd reason however, she looks rather… Sad… Neither of the Rose Xiao-Long sisters knew who she was (yet), but if the looks this young girl is getting is anything to go by, she's most likely a celebrity of sorts. One of these people who have their eyes on this young girl is the last one we're going to be focusing on for the moment.
She's a very small, pale-skinned girl with bright white hair that's tied on a ponytail, but the ponytail is tied around the upper left side of the girl's head, which is something you don't see very often. Her eyes are a bright, sky blue, with her left eye having a short, but deep scar. Like the athlete from earlier, this small girl appears to be wearing armor. But this armor looks more like that of a knight's rather than one of a gladiator & it's colored white, with light blue accents. She's also wearing a combat skirt, much like Ruby, with this one sporting a white dress with a blue underskirt instead. Something she does share with Ruby is that they both wear a blood-red cape, but this one doesn't have a hood.
Like the red-haired athlete, this young girl seems to have many people looking at her, but instead of them being excited, they seem afraid for some reason, especially since she has a pair of men in black suits & sunglasses that are carrying all of her stuff. She's most likely some kind of rich girl or nobility from a faraway land, although the snowflake emblem her armor sports definitely gives off the impression that whoever this girl is, she's going to be very important.
The large ship finally begins to land at the front yard of Beacon Academy, we see a conversation between Glynda & Ozpin in the latter's office, which is at the top of Beacon Tower & by the looks of it, Glynda doesn't seem very pleased.
Glynda: Your Majesty, I beg you to reconsider! Appointing a complete stranger who came out of nowhere - a child no less! – to become a new professor at Beacon Academy just like this is too big of a risk. We know next to nothing of this Byleth individual, yet you're willing to give her such an important position only 30 minutes after you meet her?! This is flat-out insane, even for you!
Ozpin just takes a sip of his good morning coffee before he speaks up.
Ozpin: I've already made up my mind, Glynda & I have no decision of changing it anytime soon. I'm very well aware that being cautious comes naturally for you, my friend... But I ask that you trust me on this & understand that we can't risk this individual running off on her own, if that sword of hers truly is cursed, then we cannot let "them" get their hands on it.
Glynda: Of course I trust you, Your Majesty & I agree that we can't risk this individual being on her own if her story is indeed true, but hiring her as a teacher?! We don't know anything about her in terms of battle capabilities, may I also remind you that Gayelette will be staying here at Beacon to complete her training? I ask you to think a little more before doing anything too rash, you're already unpopular with the councilmen as it is, so you can't risk getting in their bad side any longer… You know that, don't you?
Ozpin: *Takes a sip of coffee* Yes, I am aware… I cannot simply do as I please since my position of power is very limited. But I'm still going to use that power for the betterment of my people, as well as the people of Remnant. Moreover, the recent reports from Qrow concern me, about the fact that Fall was nearly taken out by a few individuals who appear to be working for "her". We cannot ignore those who try to disrupt the balance of Remnant, especially if they're as dangerous enough to hold off Qrow & Khloud.
Glynda: Yes, that is a matter of immense importance. I shall continue my investigations as well, while also guarding the injured Fall. For now: I will have faith that you're placing your trust with the utmost care, I can only pray that this doesn't backfire horribly…
As their conversation finishes, the doors of Ozpin's office open, revealing to be Byleth & Sothis who enter the room after being called by Ozpin a few moments prior.
Byleth: My apologies for keeping you waiting, I was in the library & lost the track of time.
Byleth goes to sit down on the chair in front of Ozpin's desk as he's drinking some coffee.
Ozpin: Ah, it's of no worry, Ms. Eisner. I for one am happy that you've taken interest in studying some of Remnant's history through our library, I'm sure Dr. Oobleck will be happy to have a new reading companion to study history with him. But enough about that, I'm here to talk to you about the initiations for the new students that will begin tomorrow at Emerald Valley, which resides east of Beacon. The new students will be tested as they will be traversing through this giant labyrinth of a valley to grab specific artifacts & reach to the ruins of the old Emerald Castle. The news teams will be formed as follows: Each team at Beacon consists of 4 people per team & the team's name is named after a color code that's formed by the initials of each of the team member's names, with the first initial being chosen as who will lead the team.
Byleth: "Named after a color"? Bit of an odd choice if you ask me.
Ozpin: Trust me, I get that a lot. To use an example, let me tell you about one of my previous teams of students: Team STRQ. Their team consists of Summer Rose, TaiYang Xiao-Long, Raven Branwen & Qrow Branwen. As you can tell by how their team's name is spelled, you can guess that the leader of Team STRQ is Summer Rose. How the team is formed depends on what relic they picked, if 4 people pick the same relic, they form a team together. As for partners, that's a little more complicated.
Sothis: Wait, "partners"? Why would you even need a partner or a duo within an already formed team if you're in a team of 4? Isn't that a little redundant?
Glynda: Allow me to answer that question, young Sothis. You see, since teams are a group of 4 people, that also means that there can be a pair of duos within that team. This allows the teams to have a set dynamic that will benefit the team well if they're well-choreographed, in the case of Team STRQ, the particular duos were Summer & Raven, while the other duo was TaiYang & Qrow. As to how the duos are chosen is simple, when 2 people make eye contact at Emerald Valley, that already forms a partnership: said partnership that will be permanent for their next 4 years at Beacon. You'll be by their side at all times, during studies, sparring matches, missions, with no takebacks!
The reactions of the Eisner "sisters" are quite similar. Both of them are shocked at such a needlessly complicated way to simply form teams, they also thought that forming duos within an already formed team was kinda… well- pointless & redundant! The 4 of them are already gonna work together & live under the same roof anyways, what's the point of dividing the team into duos & make it so unnecessarily convoluted?
Sothis: *Huffs* Sounds like a pretty convoluted system to simply form a team & not the good kind of convoluted either.
Ozpin: Well, you're certainly not the first ones who had those same thoughts. Now then, after the day of initiation, I thought of a good way to test your prowess, Ms. Eisner.
Byleth: Oh yeah? & How's that?
Glynda: The top 2 teams of tomorrow's test will fight in a mock battle at Emerald Valley, each team being leaded by one of the professors. In this case, you will lead one team & I shall take command of the other team. The details of the actual test will be revealed in the day it will take place, I hope that you do not disappoint His Majesty when the time arrives, is that clear?
Byleth & especially Sothis were starting to get a little annoyed at Glynda's bossy attitude, said attitude reminds them both of Seteth & how much of a pain he was back when they first met him at the Officer's Academy. Always by the books, no screwing around, very disciplinary, loyal to their respective masters, usually the voice of reason & someone you do not want to make an enemy of. But hey, Byleth was able to befriend Seteth, so hopefully she & Sothis will befriend Glynda as time goes by… Maybe.
Sothis: Oh~ trust me, Ms. Dominatrix. You won't stand a chance against my "Big Sis", she's gonna wipe the floor with you.
Glynda: *Smirks* Well see about that, shorty!
Byleth was holding a very enraged Sothis from trying to get her hands on Glynda in the hopes of making her pay for calling a Goddess "shorty". But then she begins thinking about this test, which is very similar to her first trial in Garreg Mach, where the 3 houses entered a 3-way mock battle to test their team synergy & Byleth's skills as a tactician & while both Dimitri & Edelgard proved formidable, Byleth & the Golden Deers pretty much crushed the competition like it was nothing.
Byleth is hoping that regardless of which team she leads, she hopes to get one where Ruby is in, not only to begin her mission to guide her, but also because the young mercenary took a great liking to the young reaper, she reminded him a bit of Dimitri if he had a few sprinkles of the rowdy, yet adventurous attitude that Caspar possesses.
Byleth: Leading a team in a mock battle, eh? Sounds simple enough.
Ozpin: *Raises an eyebrow while smirking* Oh? Is that confidence that I'm hearing?
Byleth: *Smirks* I have a lot of experience leading small groups of fighters & being a tactician, this will be a cakewalk for me.
Ozpin: Interesting… I'll be looking forward to seeing it with my own eyes.
The 4 of them turn to face the large windows of Ozpin's office to see the large ship land on the front yard of Beacon, with the students just getting off of said ship.
Ozpin: By the looks of it, it seems that our "guests" have just arrived, so why don't you & Sothis go down there & meet a few of them in person? A few of them will become your students, after all.
Byleth: *Stands back up* I will, thank you for your time, Your Majesty. Now then, if you could excuse us?
Byleth bowed before she & Sothis left the office. As they both head downstairs, the scene cuts back to the front yard of Beacon, where Ruby & Yang have already got out of the ship & they see the large academy from up close & it's even greater that they can imagine. Ruby in particular is very amazed by what she's witnessing, while also fangirling from whatever cool weapons she spots.
Remnant is well known for having some of the most outlandish weapons built that can transform into 2 completely different weapons, like a giant sword that can transform into a giant scythe for example… But for some strange reason, 99.99% of them is a combination of a specific weapon with a type of gun/firearm. In Ruby's case, it's a giant mechanical scythe that can become a high caliber sniper rifle... It's also a gun. Yang holds Ruby back before she starts zipping around at incredible speed to check out these weapons from up close.
Yang: Woah, woah! Easy there, little sis! You're getting way too excited, way too fast. They're just weapons.
Ruby: *Dramatically gasps* "Just weapons"? Weapons are an extension of one's own identity, you can't just treat them like a mere tool! Like by baby girl over here, they're a part of who you are & seeing new weapons is awesome! It's like meeting new people… But better…
Ruby takes out Crescent Rose & starts holding it tightly, like she's holding a baby & as she does, Yang just smirks at how dorky, yet adorable her sister is acting right now.
Yang: Is that why you always sleep with your "Baby Girl" like it's your soulmate?
Ruby blushes at her sister's comment & gets very embarrassed from hearing her say that in public, but then she immediately fires back with an embarrassing comment of her own while smirking mischievously.
Ruby: Says the one who has tons of body pillows & figurines of "Fire Emblem Waifus".
Yang blushes immensely at her little sister's comment, not expecting for her to bite back in such a manner & so effectively as well.
Yang: Okay, that's different!
Ruby: It's exactly the same thing! Baka~! You can't judge me for something like this!
The 2 sisters begin going back & forth like they usually do, with Byleth spotting them from afar once she & Sothis get outside of Beacon Academy. Byleth watches the 2 sisters arguing & she can't help but smile at them, it reminded her a lot of how much Claude & Lysithea usually act like a pair of siblings, the same also applying to Hilda & Marriane, although the latter duo is much more friendly than the former. She goes to see them in person to both welcome Ruby to Beacon as well as meeting her sister. Ruby suddenly stops butting heads with Yang as she spots Byleth & Sothis approaching them, with Ruby getting very excited.
Ruby: Huh? Hey, they're here. Oi~! Byleth, Sothis, over here!
Sothis: My, looks like you came after all, Little Red. I hope that the dominatrix didn't cause trouble for you last night when she took you home, right?
Ruby blushes as she rubs her butt a little bit, still feeling the sting from Glynda yesterday.
Ruby: Heheheh… All I got from her was a little "warning shot", which still kinda hurts to be honest... But what about you guys, what are you doing here?
Byleth: The King gave us a place to stay in exchange for me becoming a professor here.
Ruby: Wait, really?! That's so cool! Now we can stay in touch with one another.
Yang is a little confused as to who are these strangers that are talking to Ruby as if they knew each other, Ruby notices & forgot that she still hasn't met Byleth & Sothis in person.
Ruby: Oh, sorry Yang. I forgot to introduce them to you, this young woman right here is Byleth, she's the one I told you & dad about yesterday. The little girl next to her is Sothis, she's Byleth's little sister.
Yang: Oh~, I see. *Turns to Byleth* Well then, it's nice to meet you Byleth! I'm Yang Xiao-Long, Ruby's older sister.
Yang extends her hand to Byleth who shakes it, Sothis then gets a little confused as to how Yang & Ruby are sisters if A: they have different last names & B: the fact that they look nothing alike… Like- at all!
Sothis: Wait, you're Ruby's older sister? But you 2 look nothing alike & you don't share the same last name!
Ruby: Oh yeah, sorry about that. Well, I took my Mother's last name as a way to honor her memory & follow in her footsteps.
Byleth: Is that so? That's wonderful.
Yang takes a closer look at Byleth. For one, she's really short, probably about 164 Cm at best. Yet her "assets" are actually a bit larger than Yang's, despite not revealing as much as Yang herself does. Byleth is cute, but also gorgeous. But something about her tells Yang that Byleth is much more than meets the eye, she can't quite explain it, but she can feel a lot of prowess & experience from the Ashen Demon. If given the chance, Yang would love fighting Byleth in a one-on-one match to test her power.
As for Byleth's thoughts on Yang, she can see many similarities between the tomboyish young woman & Thunder-brand Catherine, as well as a bit of Dorothea if she was a fighter instead of a songstress. Both are incredibly beautiful & attractive, as well as giving off a lot of flirtatious energy, but something tells her that Yang might be horrible at flirting for some odd reason. But similar to Claude, Yang's smile doesn't seem to reach her eyes, but she doesn't know why that is the case yet. Sothis on the other hand probably just sees Yang as a brute who only cares about fighting & looking sexy while doing it given her attire that greatly exposes both of her "assets" & her muscles, she & Catherine would definitely be BFFs in Sothis' eyes.
Yang: So you're a mercenary? You look pretty strong, looking forward to fighting you.
Byleth: *Nods* The feeling is mutual… Oh & please don't mind Sothis, she's not used to being in public a lot.
Yang kneels down to Sothis' level & starts talking to her almost as if she's talking to a small child, which sorta gets into Sothis' nerves a little bit. A goddess having to play the role of a small child, it angered her quite a bit.
Yang: Aw~, so you're with your big sis to help her in her new job, huh? You're so cute.
Sothis: What the- HEY! Cut that out! I am not a small child that you get to coddle & spoil, let go of me at once!
Ruby & Byleth simply smile as the former's big sister is spoiling the latter's little sister. They can't help but find that very adorable, although Ruby kinda feels embarrassed from Yang's current doting behavior that she's expressing to the small goddess.
Ruby: *Chuckles embarrassingly* I'm really sorry about Yang, she's like that with me all of the time. Apologies in advance if this becomes reoccurring.
Byleth: *Shakes her head to Ruby* No need to apologize, you'd be amaze by how many times this has happened before.
Yang continues to coddle Sothis, until she finally had enough & pushed Yang back.
Sothis: I told you to let me go, you blond buffoon!
Yang: *Gets pushed back* Woah, calm down!
Unfortunately for them, when Sothis did push Yang away, she accidently stepped away & tripped, causing her to fall on a small kart carrying large white suitcases, which caused a big mess... & the owner of those suitcases wasn't very happy about what just happened.
White-haired Atlesian: YOU!
They all look at the short Atlesian who looks pissed at the mess they just made as Byleth helps Sothis to get back up.
Byleth: Oh my god, Sothis! Are you okay?!
Sothis: *Groans* I've been in worse, thanks…
Byleth then looks at the White-haired Atlesian who looks furious.
Byleth: I'm very sorry about this, it was an accident.
White-haired Atlesian: AN "ACCIDENT"?! You foolish peasantry just made my suitcases full of Dust fall, do you bloody idiots have any idea of the damage you could've done?!
Ruby then picks up one of the suitcases that has opened because of the accident while also feeling a little upset at the Atlesian's bitchy attitude.
Ruby: Oi, calm down! It was just a simple accident! You don't need to be so antagonistic because of it, we didn't mean any harm.
The Atlesian than snatched the suitcase from Ruby's arms & takes out one of the small glass vials of Dust, mainly a red one. The attitude of this girl made Byleth remind herself of Hilda, who's also a spoiled rich brat… But instead of being a manipulative slacker, this Atlesian was nothing short of a complete bitch & from what it looks like, for no good reason at all. Kinda like Leone's little rivalry with Byleth because of Jeralt… but worse!
White-haired Atlesian: Give me that! This right here is Dust, mined & purified from the Schnee quarry!
"Schnee"? That name rang a bell to the Rose Xiao-Long sisters, mainly Ruby. But then the Atlesian started to wave the small glass vial of Dust, completely ignoring the fact that it was leaking bits of powder Dust that started to fly on Ruby's direction.
Atlesian: Dust! Fire, water, lightning, energy. What are you, brain-dead?!
Ok, that was the last straw for Yang. Being a petty bitch because of a simple accident is one thing, but insulting her little sister for no good reason is where she crosses the line. She went towards the Atlesian, pulled her close by the collar & glared at her in the eye.
Yang: Alright, that's enough! We're sorry for this accident, but you have no right to act like a fucking bitch because of it, let alone call my little sister brain-dead for no reason!
The fact that this blond peasant would even dare to get her hands on an Atlesian made her lived as hell & pushed Yang away.
Weiss: Hands off, you disgusting brute! Do you have any idea of who I am?!
Yang: I don't give a shit about who you are or where you came from! This isn't a royal castle where your slaves do what you please, this is a Huntsmen Academy! So don't act all high & mighty here, you spoiled rich brat!
White-haired Atlesian: What did you just called me, you accursed peasant?!
As the girls were arguing, Byleth took notice of Ruby, who looked like she was about to sneeze. When she looked at the red glitters of Dust around her nose, she suddenly got scared of what will happen if Ruby sneezed because of that Dust.
Byleth: Oh no, Ruby! Whatever you do, do not snee-
Ruby: ACHOO!
Byleth's attempt went in vain as Ruby sneezed, setting off the Dust that was both under her nose (literally) & on the air & causing a fairly large fire dust explosion. When the smoke cleared, everyone other than Ruby had a face completely covered in smoke, that made Ruby worry & panic a little bit as she goes to check on her sister & 2 new friends, hoping that they're alright.
Ruby: Ah Crapbaskets! Yang, Byleth, Sothis, I'm so sorry! Are you guys alright?
Yang: *Coughs* Y- Yeah, I'm okay, we're all okay. It was just an accident sis, don't feel so bad about it.
As Ruby sighed in relief as the 3 girls were alright, the Atlesian was anything but.
White-haired Atlesian: You… You… YOU BLOODY DOLT! What in the bloody hell were you even thinking?!
Sothis: Hey! You're the idiot who just shacked the leaking dust around for no reason, if anyone's to blame for that explosion just now, it's you!
White-haired Atlesian: What did you just say?! The nerve of you to blame me for your disgusting acts!
Before things escalated any further, Byleth stands in between the girls & the Atlesian to break them off.
Byleth: Alright, that's enough! Out of ALL of you! Look, I know that the 5 of us didn't have a good start & we caused an accident, but the 4 of you need to stop this right now! You're causing a scene, for god's sake!
The Atlesian felt insulted by this random nobody in her eyes just told her to shut up.
White-haired Atlesian: & Who do you think you are that you can just talk down to me in such a way?!
Byleth: *Glares at the Atlesian* You're new professor, "Princess"!
The Atlesian bites back at Byleth, getting visibly angry at the "Princess" comment.
White-haired Atlesian: Don't call me a "Princess", you-
Unknown female voice: It's "Heiress", actually.
All 5 of them turned to see the ronin girl with the large bamboo hat which hides her face approaching them while holding a glass vial of Dust that dropped from the Atlesian's suitcase from earlier.
Ronin girl: Her name is "Weiss Schnee", she's the Heiress of the Schnee Dust Company, or S.D.C. for short. It's the largest Dust mining & business company in all of Remnant.
The bells from earlier finally rang back at Ruby as she remembered where the name "Schnee" came from & slammed her fist on her palm as if she just solved a mystery.
Ruby: Oh, that Schnee! I knew I read that name from somewhere.
Weiss: *Smirks* Finally, some decent recognition. You're doing well for knowing your-
As Weiss was monologuing, the Ronin girl immediately interrupted her by firing back with some "interesting facts" about the S.D.C., all the while sounding as subtly hateful & disgusted as possible.
Ronin girl: The S.C.D. is infamous for it's many "questionable methods" of doing their job, included, but not limited to: Faunus labor, slavery, underpaying their workers, treating them like mere tools to the point that they're discarded if they fail to do their job properly, horrible business decisions & business partners, letting your workers break their backs on extremely dangerous Dust mines with little to no means of making sure they don't die incase an accident occurs & despite all of that & more, the council, much less the higher ups of the Atlesian Military don't do anything to prevent these atrocities. Cause if the S.D.C.'s way of making money makes their might even greater, then who cares how many people will die in the process? Because they sure as hell don't give a damn about anything they do so long as they're useful to them!
All of their eyes widen by what the Ronin girl just said, especially Weiss. The nerve of this random girl who just came out of nowhere to insult her grandfather's pride & joy like that. After this, Weiss wants nothing more with these revolting peasants & leaves the scene alongside her butlers who help her carry her stuff. Ruby then looks at the Ronin girl who was now approaching them.
Ruby: W- Wow! That was... Pretty awesome of you to do that, but who are you exactly?
The raven-haired girl nods her head while holding down her bamboo hat before speaking.
Blake: You may call me Blake.
Ruby: *Points her thumb at herself* I'm Ruby, Ruby Rose!
Yang: *Smiles* The name's Yang, I'm Ruby's older sister.
Byleth: & I'm Byleth, the small girl next to me is my younger sister: Sothis.
Byleth nods after their introduction, which thankfully went so much better than the one with Weiss. Blake's attention then goes to Ruby & Sothis, the 2 youngest girls in Beacon.
Blake: Don't those 2 girls look too young to attend at Beacon?
Ruby: *Blushes a little bit* Well- Yes, I am! I'm currently 15 years old, but the King gave me early access via recommendation.
Blake: Really? Well so did I, I met him in person last week myself.
Ruby: Woah, seriously?! That's pretty cool! Oh & as for Sothis, she's not a student here, she's her sister's assistant. Byleth was hired as a teacher. Cool, huh?
This peaked Blake's interest, a young woman who appears to look like a wanderer like herself was hired to become a professor? That sounded unbelievable. But for some odd reason, it didn't feel that wrong for Blake.
Blake: A new professor? This should be interesting.
Byleth looked at Blake & can't help but the striking resemblances between her & Shamir. Both of them are the strong, quiet type, yet they have that air of mystery within them. The look that Blake is giving to Byleth almost looks like she's testing her, similar to Edelgard when they first met & like Ruby, Byleth can sense a deep, inner darkness within Blake that's strikingly similar to Dimitri's. But the new professor knew how impolite it is to just butt into other people's lives like that, so she left it to the side for the moment & nodded at Blake's comment.
Byleth: If there's anything you'd like me to teach you, come find me at my classroom.
Blake: I'll be looking forward to it. Now then, if you excuse me.
The girls stepped aside & let Blake pass as she leaves the group. It was a rather brief & quiet meeting, but after what happened with Weiss just now, they'll take anything at this point. They then hear Glynda's voice through the speakers around campus.
Glynda: [Would all new participants please come to the amphitheater?]
Ruby: Well, looks like our meeting was cut short. Sorry about that, Byleth.
Byleth: No problem at all, you girls just go to the amphitheater. Sothis & I will be on our way, take care of yourselves now… *Shoots a glare* & Don't cause any trouble, got it?
Yang: *Rolls her eyes* Yes, "Mother". We'll behave…
Ruby just facepalms as she starts dragging Yang away, embarrassed from what her sister has just said to their future new teacher.
Ruby: Yare Yare Daze… Come on, Yang. Let's get going before you embarrass again!
Yang: What the- hey! You don't need to pull me like that, sis. Quit it!
Byleth can't help but smile at the Rose Xiao-Long sisters & their shenanigans, it's clear that she has her work cut out, but after dealing with the troublemaking Golden Deers for a whole year, this will be a cakewalk!... She thinks…
Sothis: Yeesh, talk about walking down memory lane. It feels like Garreg Mach all over again, doesn't it?
Byleth: Yeah, it does… I- I really miss them… It has only been about a day, yet I miss those rambunctious brats greatly… *Looks down somberly* The Golden Deer were the first true family I've ever had… Yet I wasn't able to stay by their side… *Clenches her fists* I won't let the same happen to Ruby, I need to stay by her side!
Sothis notices her "sister's" sudden change of behavior & takes her hand as an attempt to calm her down & comfort her.
Sothis: Hey, it's ok Byleth… I'm here for you, you're not doing this alone. After everything we've been through together, there's no way I'll ever let you do something like this on your own again, okay?
Byleth: *Smiles softly at Sothis* Thanks Sothis, I'm glad to have you back.
The Eisner "sisters" then decided to take a stroll around campus, all the while Ozpin was watching earlier events unfold. A few minutes later, Ozpin gave a brief, yet very powerful speech to the ones who are about to enter Beacon, assuming they'll pass tomorrow's test. Unfortunately, the dormitory buildings are exclusive to students & teachers only, so the newcomers will have to sleep in the amphitheater for tonight. We then take a look at Ozpin's office late at night as he's looking at a certain project of his: PROJECT FALL. He looks down at the candidates he narrowed it down for whatever plans he has, after looking at all of the candidates he narrowed down (Byleth, Ruby, Blake, Yang, 4 other girls none of our heroines have met in person as of yet: Coco, Velvet, Nora & Pyrrha) he concluded that the best possible candidate for PROJECT FALL would be the orange-haired girl from earlier in the ship: Nora Valkyrie. He turns off his computer & drinks some coffee as she watches the beautiful shattered moon, he can't help but to think about these 2 new sisters: Byleth & Sothis… Ozpin raises a brow as the thinks of the small girl.
Ozpin: Hold a moment… "Sothis"?... Why does that name sound so familiar?...
Ozpin tries to think about an answer, only to immediately shake his head when he couldn't find one. Maybe it isn't as relevant as he initially believed & that Sothis isn't the one Ozpin thinks she is… Or is she?
Ruby & Yang have made it into Beacon Academy & met up with Byleth & Sothis, the former of which will become a professor, but it's clear that there's more to this than just a simple life at school. What is this PROJECT FALL that Ozpin was looking over just now? Why is Weiss so defensive about her position as an Atlesian & a Schnee? What's this powerful air of mystery that Blake is emitting? Will Ruby & Yang pass the trials to fully enroll at Beacon tomorrow at Emerald Valley? What will be their team & will Byleth succeed in her mission or will she fail again? Find out next time on RWBY: The Verdant Light of Remnant!
RWBY: The Verdant Light of Remnant - Chapter 3: The Shining Beacon - End.
Author's Notes: Holy crap, writing this chapter was a SLOOOOOOOOG! i'm just gonna go ahead say that i'm taking a few days off from fanfic writing cause writing this chapter took FOREVER! so much narration & exposition & the fact that i had to speak of what the characters are wearing in great detail SUCKED! thank god i only manually wrote Weiss & Blake's new designs as well as a few touches on Yang's, while CPing almost everyone else... cause if i didn't, this chapter would've come 2 DAYS LATER! just one of these new designs that i wrote took me over an HOUR to describe because i'm not very knowlegable at cloathing & i HATE describing very detailed outfits, something that's a con when you have such amazing character designs.
But now for the questions that i KNOW you're gonna ask, so let's get them over with.
1: Why did i change the designs for Weiss & Blake? for Weiss, i wanted something that resembled her grandfather more, cause i wanna do something more with Nicholas Schnee interms of lore/worldbuilding here & since Weiss eventually becomes the perfect successor to Nicholas & we rarely see women in armor (which i call bullshit) i thought of giving her some armor & a red cape as her way to honor Nicholas, like how Ruby wears a cloak to honor her mom in a way (until V7 happened where she changed the cloak, which is bullshit) & as for Blake, i'm gonna be honest, i was never that big of a fan of her designs (outside of her Mistral Saga look & her PJs) i get where they're going for (apart from the catsuit in the Atlas Saga), but considering that her family & household literally SCREAMS Japanese & the fact that her fighting style is similar to a ninja, a JAPANESE assassin... i decided to give her a more fitting outfit. i based her new design out of Kenshin from Ruronin Kenshin. oh & sidenote, she's still an Ex-WF member here... just- brace yourselves for the inevitable reveal cause spoilers, it's gonna be some heavy shit.
2: Who's Gayelette? She's Glynda's Ironwood's 15 year old daughter, the reasons why she's at Beacon as well as why James & Glynda even HAD a kid here will be explained in the future, but as to why i made her? i wanted some kind of foil or homage to Flayn, since i think that Glynda & Seteth were PRETTY MUCH hand in hand, they're SO alike & i love it! & like keeping kings here, i wanted something to make Byleth feel more familiar & less alienated in Remnant. She'll get a proper introduction in C4, so stay tuned.
3: That joke Ruby made about Yang "Having figurines & body pillows of FE Waifus"? Yes, Fire Emblem is a franchise in Remnant. but no, FE3H isn't a game that exists in that universe. One of the things that i love about crossovers is the subtle nods, homages & references to their respective universes & i love me some homages, so i thought that this little joke would be a good way to start off those nods. Besides, Yang would TOTALLY have a figure & body pillow collection of Female FE characters, it fits WAY too well with her IMO. Luckily for me, most FE titles take place in their own world, including FE3H, so you won't see Byleth confused as to why she's seeing stuff from Fire Emblem, specially since this is Fire Emblem 3 Houses Byleth & not Fire Emblem Heroes or Smash Bros. Byleth.
& 4: Potential Maiden Nora, TPoynt already made a point in his Aqua fanfic about Nora becoming the best candidate for the Fall Maiden over Pyrrha due to Nora being isolated anyways as oppose to Pyrrha who's a celebrity & OMG, I COMPLETELY AGREE! So unless i change my mind in the future for some reason, Nora's gonna be the Fall Maiden Candidate for the moment.
Anyways, i hope my answers satisfy you even if some of you will want me dead for some reason, so just try to play nice in the comments & don't be a bunch of toxic dicks, as for those who are following & supporting this fic, all i gotta say is THANK YOU! after last month in June were i was lost & misguided, this new fanfic lighted that fire i needed in a long time & you guys supporting me is something i really appreciate, so again. thank you SO. VERY. MUCH! Anyways that's it for me, thank you so much for reading, this has been Remnant Bardock & until next time, have a wonderful day my friends.
Edit: Jesus Christ, the narration for the character designs was a HUGE mistake on my part. I already didn't like doing it when i first wrote it, WHY DID I KEEP IT THAT WAY & DIDN'T CHANGE IT UP UNTIL NOW?!... Whatever, at least i'm done. I also made some slight dialogue changes to better connect with some of the future chapters, mainly Blake... She was... a BIT too polite in her introduction here & talked a bit too much, so i cut some of it out. As you may have noticed, i ALSO cut the bit where Ruby says that she & Yang have different mothers, this is a retcon on my end that'll make more sense in the future. Anyways, that is it for me. This has been Remnant Bardock & until next time, have a wonderful day my friends.
